DB/Stone seems like an inherently bad decision. You rely on combos, and Granite will eat your recharge time so you won't be able to string combos together as often.

Nothing makes me sick, although there are some things that bug me.
One is when people don't tone down, or even sometimes amplify already annoying graphics. Worst offender is ice shields. My ice character has them set to a very dull gray, so the graphics show up as a faint white. They still look like ice, just extra translucent. I hate seeing the default ice that you can't see through, or even brighter and denser colors.
I also hate how everyone just colors their stuff black. We have such a broad spectrum and can come up with cool stuff. For instance, I played with a Rad/Thermal Corruptor who colored their thermal powers to the exact shade of radiation so the flames and stuff looked like radiation. So it makes me roll my eyes when I see the 500th instance of pure black fire. -
Quote:I always hear this, but if you hang around Tsoo long enough, there are skirted dudes that do Martial Arts.Pretty sure Jay has said he will only add long skirts when he can get it to not look stupid. The issue is how do you have a long skirt on a Martial Arts type character. It's difficult to say the least.
I'd believe more that they clip with emotes or doing running or flying or something, because they definitely don't have issues doing flying kicks.
EDIT: Check it: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Tsoo#Lost_Son He does all three of the most extravagent MA kicks in a skirt. -

Quote:I'd like to believe they'd give us that stuff for free, but GR would be pretty empty if it didn't have any exclusive ATs or powersets.I'm in the "expansion = expansion goodies" camp. I fully expect that the DP/DS powersets will either be greyed out, or gone entirely (much like epics do not show up until they are unlocked) unless you have purchased Going Rogue, and I don't think it's unreasonable to believe this.
-
Quote:What, really? Even a Regen Scrapper should go over that limit. 6 attacks, plus BU, Recon, DP, IH, and MoG. That's 11 clicks, all useful. That's not counting that I get Hasten on every character, and eventually get click accolades.I'm in the same boat. I have never had any click powers that I consider useful that wouldn't fit on one tray.
Do you not play Controllers, Defenders, Corruptors, Doms, or Blasters? Actually with the setup I use, I often end up putting a click or two (usually Domination/PB) on tray three when I play Doms.
You must play only toggle/auto heavy melees. -
-
Quote:You won't be able to do that with Stone. At least not fully. Two of them are psi, and one autohits. The psi will drop you pretty much instantly, since you have neither DEF nor RES to it.Also, my brute should be able to tank the phalanx in the rsf without having to pull them one at a time, which is something Ive never seen a regular io'd brute do.
I can tank any of them except the psi ones simultaneously with my Invuln Brute with Unstoppable going. But that makes it pretty trivial. Though with the recharge rate, I can have it up pretty consistently between attempts. Without it, I can handle 2-3 at a time. A couple more with good inspiration use and/or some buffs. -
Well, not anymore. They gave out CoV for free, so everyone who has CoH has CoV as well now. It's no longer an expansion, but part of the core game.
GR will be an expansion. If you don't buy it, you don't get stuff. Though I haven't met anyone yet who isn't getting it. But new players might not be interested in an expansion. -
Quote:I definitely do. I get so many free powers nowdays that I just have to fill everything up.I've never used Tray 4 before..All my toggles/travel powers are bound and I've never had more attack powers than I had slots on the first tray @ 3@;;
Tray 1: 1-7 are reserved for attacks. Most characters only have 6 tops, but my Shielders have 7. This setup fails miserably when I try to play Controllers, but I put the ST mezzes along this row to make it a little easier. Vet attacks go here as well until I have a more complete chain. 8 is Walk, 9 is CJ/Hover, 0 is SJ/Fly.
Tray 2: Self buffs. Generally starting with 1 being Rage/BU. 3-5 tend to be self-preservation clicks like Dull Pain if applicable, or other buffs like Aim. 6-7 usually end up being rare click powers like Strength of Will. I sometimes fill in with defensive temps. Magus/Demonic and Geas/FoN go on this row as well. 8 is NR, 9 is Sprint, 0 is Rest.
Tray 3: Autos and toggles. Hasten is 1, with 2-7 being any defensive toggles I run. 9 is a temp jetpack power (for when jump pack isn't recharged) and 0 is Jump Jet (for when I need height).
Pretty much all my toons have the first three trays full. That's not leaving any room for any of my teleport and pay pack perks, so I had to start using a 4th tray to hold those. -
Quote:CoV had 5 new ATs and a ton of new powersets. And a ton of costume parts and zones.I think the point is, though, that since this isn't introducing new ATs which need to start in Praetoria, that restricting the new powersets to people who have purchased Going Rogue would be... odd.
So far all we know about GR is that it'll have 1-20 (and maybe higher) content, and some zones. We know nothing of new ATs, and only 2 powersets. If DP/DS don't come with GR, the content of the expansion is going to be pretty light. -
1. Nemesis Staff / Blackwand
2. Vet Pet Power
3. Portable Workbench (only on one toon; empty on others)
4. Ouroboros Portal
5. Pocket D Teleporter
6. Mission Teleporter
7. Self Destruct
8. Market Teleporter
9. Base Teleporter
0. Mystic Fortune
I use a 4x3 layout so it's more organized than it looks. When I hit 42 months I'll probably put that power in place of the Market Teleporter. I never use that, and most toons don't even have the power on the bar. -
Just to shake things up: Wolverine is Willpower.
He's not Regeneration. Regeneration is not the only thing he can do. In fact, I can't really think of any character who would qualify as Regeneration the way I define it. Regeneration only does one thing: regenerate. You aren't durable, you aren't tough, you aren't battle-hardened, agile, or strong.
Wolverine is all those things. He has battle experience, and tolerance to pain. He can take significantly strong blows because they won't break his bones. He can put up with being shot and cut. He's fast and agile. He can dodge attacks and avoid taking damage. He resists damage, he defends damage, he has a high tolerance to damage, but most of all he regenerates any damage he takes.
So nyeh. -
We both gave you feedback: Don't count on having 55% recharge all the time when you don't.

Quote:This is so true, and can hardly be said enough.First off, purples are damn expensive. I recently broke 1 billion inf mark the second time but even then I prefer builds that have no purples. 99% of the time they cost too much for the benefit.
Purples are for people who are exceptionally wealthy. I see far too many people starting out (me included when I was new to IOs!) who think that they're going to need purple sets, when it's just not the case. Besides the fact that they're extremely costly, the bonuses they give aren't that much higher than existing sets, and generally don't target a very wide selection of bonuses.
There are people who think that just throwing purples into a build will make it amazing, which is very untrue. While purples can be pretty useful if your goal is massive recharge, using them haphazardly can result in a very expensive and very lame build. You can't build DEF, regen, HP, or damage very well with purples. There are a couple purples that do those last three, but not very many.
I have an Elec/Invuln Brute I spent about 500m on to outfit. She has soft-capped S/L DEF with 8 targets in range, and can cast LR every 29-38 seconds. Theoretically I could still slot one purple set and change that to 29-37, and gain 6% global accuracy and 4% recov (0.07 end/sec)... but at the price of doubling the amount of money I already spent on her, at the very least. In other words, for about the same price I could get:
+9% DamageBuff(Smashing)
+9% DamageBuff(Lethal)
+9% DamageBuff(Fire)
+9% DamageBuff(Cold)
+9% DamageBuff(Energy)
+9% DamageBuff(Negative)
+9% DamageBuff(Toxic)
+9% DamageBuff(Psionic)
+18% Defense(Smashing)
+18% Defense(Lethal)
+4.88% Defense(Fire)
+4.88% Defense(Cold)
+13% Defense(Energy)
+13% Defense(Negative)
+3% Defense(Psionic)
+10.5% Defense(Melee)
+8% Defense(Ranged)
+6.75% Defense(AoE)
+3.6% Max End
+4% Enhancement(Heal)
+35% Enhancement(RechargeTime)
+9% Enhancement(Accuracy)
+5% FlySpeed
+224.9 HP (15%) HitPoints
+5% JumpHeight
+5% JumpSpeed
+MezResist(Immobilize) 16%
+MezResist(Sleep) 4.4%
+MezResist(Stun) 2.2%
+MezResist(Terrorized) 2.2%
+10% (0.63 HP/sec) Regeneration
+3.78% Resistance(Fire)
+3.78% Resistance(Cold)
+1.26% Resistance(Toxic)
+1.26% Resistance(Psionic)
+5% RunSpeed
or:
+5% Enhancement(RechargeTime) *
+6% Enhancement(Accuracy) *
+4% (0.07 End/sec) Recovery
+2.52% Resistance(Fire)
+2.52% Resistance(Cold)
* = over what I already have
Of course, once you get to the end and already have that first list, the second list might start to look good, but that's where the "exceptionally wealthy" part comes in. -
Quote:What lead you to that conclusion? Even if DP and DS are exclusive to the expansion, I don't think they'd be exclusive to characters made in Praetoria. CoV launched with costume parts exclusive to villains, but they changed that an issue later because they realized it was dumb. In other words, you could buy an expansion for villains and use it to benefit new and existing heroes. If Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning were 'exclusive to Praetoria' then even if you buy GR, you will have to create your new character as a Praetorian; which again was not mentioned at HeroCon.
You're missing a possible scenario here, which I believe is the likely one: That you can't make DP or DS without buying GR, but after you do you can make DP and DS of any faction regardless of origin. In other words, you'll be able to buy an expansion for Praetorians and use it to benefit new and existing heroes and villains. -
Quote:I <3 Kinetic Combat. In my opinion, the biggest advantages of typed defense over positional is that as Dispari mentioned, you can concentrate on the most common types of damage, and if you are planning to build for defense bonuses, typed defense is usually a 3-4 slot bonus, where positional defense is most often a 6-slot bonus. Not having to 6-slot powers to get a desirable bonus gives you a lot more build options.

Quote:Counterargument:Maybe you shouldnt speak for everyone on such absurdities. Ive been posting my builds the same way for a while now and I have always used hasten in my numbers. I also never build for perma hasten because the last 10-20 seconds (of bonus's) seem like they could be used more effectively elsewhere. You are the first person to ever bring it up in one of my build threads and Ive never seen it brought up in any other build thread. If you have some personal numbers to toss out for comparison purposes, go for it. Otherwise....
I've never seen people include Hasten as part of their total global recharge unless it's actually perma. I always see people note their global recharge and then mention they have Hasten. If you don't have Hasten perma, then you DON'T have 55% recharge. You have some significantly smaller number than that. In fact, because your global recharge while Hasten is down is -12.5%, your uptime for Hasten is worse than a regular player (non-Stone) using SOs. You can't count it toward your final global recharge without considering the significant downtime.
The usefulness or difficulty of hitting perma-Hasten is a different argument entirely. The point is, you can't claim to have 55% recharge when you DON'T, and expect people to not mention it. I wouldn't do any better to make a "soft-capped" Widow that has 35 seconds of downtime on Mind Link.
Furthermore, you're doing YOURSELF a disservice by only highlighting the build at maximum power. You shouldn't build Invincibility or Willpower as if there will always be 10 targets around you, treat Dull Pain as perma when it's not, treat Build Up as if it's always on, assume your procs will always fire, or run numbers with Hasten up when it's not always going to be up. If you actually want to compare your build and figure out what it can and can't do, you HAVE to acknowledge that 55% is not your final recharge rate and consider how the powers work all the time and not just "more often than not" as you call it.
And finally, if you don't want build feedback and advice, don't ask for it. -
What about those of us who already have multiple versions of a character? I have two versions of my valkyrie, and 5 of my monkeygirl.
-
One advantage I like to typed defense is you can just focus on S/L and get pretty much every attack in the game. All weapon-based sets are going to be S/L in part. Energy and Dark attacks tend to have a smashing component. Most ice attacks, some fire attacks, and some psi attacks will also have smash or lethal. Really all you have to watch out for is ranged elec (melee will have smash), ranged fire attacks, most psi attacks, and pure toxic attacks. Fire, ice, elec, and toxic tend to be fairly rare anyway.
With positional DEF, you tend to have to boost all three attributes. It is possible to get "most" attacks though if you have a flier that just caps range. You'll block everything that's not an AoE, and will be immune to melee since you're flying. I have a permahover Blaster who has 35% ranged DEF. But I also have an invuln Brute who caps S/L and she's really tough. -
Quote:Here's what I saw:Here's what I saw:
Hey! Wait! We're too busy making a paid-for expansion to make actual content to a five year old game, so let's throw some "letters" randomly in the forum to "activate" our fans for a few minutes. That's should make them content enough to wait another 5-6 months for actual content and replay ITF another 200-300 times...
A dev team working hard to make a huge issue with i16 that involved a ton more work than most people realize, in addition to working on the game's first real expansion. Inbetween that they still had time to release a booster pack.
And inbetween threads of people asking when i17 is going to come out (and wanting it to be before GR), they also wanted something huge for the capsule anniversary. And wouldn't've been satisfied with just a TF or two and some badges and costume parts, because that's basically what i15 had and everyone complained about how content-light it was and how it sucked. -
Quote:I'm sort of amused at that promise of "ALL" you have there. I'm amused to think that ALL my actions would be considered canon. I'm imagining it going a little something like this...1) ALL your character's actions on the TF will become Canon... so if they are the true hero of the day and lead their team to ultimate victory they will be remembered as such. If, on the other hand, they die in the first mission... that will also be well-documented.
"It's the morning of the task force to the Rikti homeworld. I've gathered with my fellow heroes here to discuss the plan, though it seems that no one really knows what to expect. I can hardly control the shakes of my hands to record my thoughts into this recorder. And I regret that what I say may not be as coherent or intelligent as it feels coming from my lips. I know in my heart that what we're doing is right, even though Hero 1 promises that this will be a suicide mission. The Regeneration Scrapper reassures our One Hero that only "newbs" don't have Revive.
We're mere hours from our task now. I have too much to think about, what with the family I'm leaving behind me. We've argued at length about my decision, but I felt at first that I had to do this for Earth. The longer I think on this, the more I want to leave. I must admit I'm afraid to go forth into the unknown and face enemies as powerful as the Rikti.
I worry that my allies do not realize the grave situation we step into. Even now, the Controller named "icegirl" is talking with her Supergroup. I wish she wouldn't; it's possible the Rikti are listening in on our local airwaves. Our Blaster is in Steel Canyon working on his costume to make sure he looks cool for his statue. I tried to assure him that it's the heart and spirit of the hero, and not his costume, but he merely said "lol." Our Tank has yet to show.
We've reached the threshold where there's no turning back now. Our Tank has not shown, and our leader has resorted to asking over the broadcast airwaves for a Stone Tank. I tried to reason with him to broaden his criteria, but he and the Kinetic insist.
Having found a Stone Tank, we're now stepping through the portal to the homeworld. I've... we're surrounded by Rikti! They've spotted us! I must cut this short--! Oof! Have at thee...! Fiend! ...
The battle is over, but I'm afraid I was severely wounded. icegirl was slain in the onslaught. Though we had expected it, seeing death so soon puts the truth of this situation into my focus. As I drag myself toward our Empathy Defender to bathe in the healing waves that flow from him at set intervals, I hope this reality is beginning to dawn on my comrades. We're do--oh. It would appear as though icegirl was carrying an Awaken.
As we drag on, our Stone Tank insists on gathering the attention of the Rikti and forcing them to give chase around corners. This slows our advance considerably, and I find it hard to suppress the desire to mention that we should be taking advantage of the unaware aliens. I also believe myself to be the only one noticing that our rock-clad friend is vulnerable to the psychic assaults of these alien enemies. However, our Empathy Defender, or "Mike's Hard Women-Aid" as the team calls him, is confident in his abilities, though his gifts have yet to intentionally drift my way.
Our task grows harder, and our numbers thin, as we push deeper into the Rikti homeworld. The foes we've been facing are stronger and more potent. I'm certain we've lost the Regeneration Scrapper, who has gone off alone. I know that he still lives, if only because my comm-link spews his voice to the tune of "teleport plz." Our Stone Tank stopped moving for a time before evaporating into thin-air. We've not seen him since.
It's only six of us now. I've grown closer to icegirl, who appears to be more versed in the ways of heroism. In the absence of our Tank, she has taken to distracting the Rikti by making them slip and fall on ice. Were I in a friendlier environment, I may find this more humorous.
...
...
I regret not having reported my actions for a time. We were ambushed by a powerful Rikti warlord, who roundly cleaned our clocks. I have only just awoken in a hospital. Though I feel certain I was eviscerated by an energy sword, I seem to have suffered no serious damage. I question the logic or possibility that we would awaken in such a place, but I will not look a gift horse in the mouth.
I have regrouped with my friends. There's a silence between us now, as we know how difficult our task is. The only sound now comes from Mike, as I shall call him. His smoothly pulsing waves of green resound in my head on cue. I fear the noise may drive me crazy, if this battle does not.
...
A second assault upon the Rikti warlord has prove unsuccessful. I am again waking in the hospital. I feel as though planning may have lead us to victory more than the direct attack we executed instead. I would have communicated this to my group, but the leader has already accused us of "sucking" and has evaporated in the manner of our Stone Tank.
I am very distressed, though this emotion seems almost foreign since those who remain aside from me are unphased. icegirl, to my astonishment, continues to speak to her Supergroup through the vastness of space. Our Blaster stepped out into the battle once more, alone, and not with a face that shows someone eager to meet the end, but someone who is blissfully unaware. He tells me he wants to look good for his statue.
I'm afraid my journey ends here." -
Just curious:
It was said above that GM regen is about 360 HP/sec. I believe AVs are about 100 HP/sec. Is that correct?
Against AVs, which weighs more? -regen or -RES? It seems like -RES may pull ahead there, since -RES should remain the same (barring resistances) while -regen can at most zero out regen, so -100 HP/sec. -
Here's what it'd take. I warn you, it's not pretty.

Quote:Sorry, PvP stuff usually slips my mind. You may or may not PvP, but 3 new zones with stuff to do for heroes and villains is pretty significant. Especially considering the heroes had the zones to themselves until there were some villains to fight against. That's a double handful of new badges, plus new missions to do as an alternative older content.
Plenty to do without owning CoV.
