We've heard "early 2010." Even if that means January 1st, it's not January yet.

Quote:Is this after your Tanker says "brb this will take three times as long as a Brute" ?Maybe your tanks are, but mine aren't. I may not do the same damage as brutes, but I'm sure as hell a lot more survivable than they ever will be.
Quote:Is this after the brute says "brb hitting hosp"?
Quote:Your tanks suck, mine don't. Perhaps you should try slotting yours for damage, like I do.
Hey, this does work. vv
Oh and you're wrong on one thing. A Brute can match a Tanker in survival with buffs. But a Tanker can NEVER, EVER, under any circumstances, match the damage output of a Brute. -

Quote:The devs never claimed power customization can't happen. They said it would be a ton of work. Then they hired people and did a ton of work.Yeah. Same thing happened with Power Customization. A shame they can't do that; it'd be cool to colorize our powers.
BABs had a solution for getting rid of redraw, but hit a speedbump and has to find a new solution. If he doesn't find a new solution, we don't get redraw removal. It's not a "it'll happen after we put enough work into it" scenario, it's a "this will only happen if we can figure out a code solution to the problem" scenario. It's best not to count your chickens before they hatch.
Even if we do get it, it may not be in time for GR. Or even several months after that. It's not something you should start relying on right away just because a dev mentioned it might one day be possible. -

I would hate DP/Kin. The constant redraw from heal, end tap, buffs, and debuffs would drive me nuts.

Quote:This is where I disagree.I have been on teams that made each strategy work fine and I never said a BRUTE couldn't taunt and be effective in that role... a TANK is just better at it and since he's taking a ton of damage while doing so the TANK wins out if available.
My inherent complaint with Tankers, Defenders, and Stalkers is that they only do one thing to write home about. And in all those cases, other ATs do those things well enough that there's no need to specialize at the loss of other abilities.
I've done basically all the content in the game, including all the high-end task forces like ITF, LGTF, and LRSF. Not once have I failed any of those three TFs, and most of my runs were using Brutes over Tankers. With a competent enough team (2+ good support toons, good backing damage), I've never once experienced a Brute so incapable of tanking that we wished for a Tanker.
Tanking is the sort of thing that you can have too much of and it be a waste. If you have a Brute and he isn't dying, what more can a Tanker offer? Is he going to not die even better? Is he going to be so alive that he dies a negative amount of times? I know he's not going to aggro more guys because both ATs have the same aggro cap, and one well-placed Foot Stomp or taunt aura is all it takes to hold a group's attention. At that point it just comes down to experience and how well the driver controls aggro.
If you're at a point where both the Brute and the Tanker are not dying, the Brute is more of a credit to the team due to the fact that he can do damage. If you're not dying, being even harder to kill is a pointless bonus. I've never experienced content that a Brute can't tank, so I've never felt that I wanted to take a Tanker over a Brute. Ever. -
Quote:The Gaussian proc is pretty infrequent. It's only a 5% chance to go off every 10 seconds. And only lasts for 5 seconds.ok, i'll have to pay attention to my combat log and see when it hits. thanks
The duration and randomness are so low that I tend to just consider the proc to be +2.5% DEF with a side-effect of a BU proc. That is to say I only use it if I already have the other 5 pieces of Gaussian slotted.
Though I've heard good things about it in Invincibility? Does it gain a chance to go off for each foe maybe? -
Quote:I don't think Tin Mage has to have two origins unless you just want him to. I would classify him as Magic.Man, After that ****, they can't just leave us in the wind with origins.
"Hey, we know you guys are limited to five, broadly defined "origins" that both stifle your character and allow for crazy ******** but now here's a Canon example of a character with TWO origins, AND YOU CAN'T HAVE IT, NYAH NYAH NAYAH!"
Seriously, have a character origin option and a power source option.
Maybe he's just a generic humanoid robot that does nothing special. In which case his only powers are his Magic. Meaning his origin is Magic. Technology gave him life, but not superpowers (as far as we know, anyway).
If we simply have to label him as Tech just because he's a robot, even though the "origin" of his superpowers is not technology in any way, that would mean every human character, whether they are classified as Magic, Science, Tech, or Mutation, would be hybrid of X/Natural. Because all humans are Natural to start with, just as all robots are Technology. -
Quote:I doubt it? Power Boost enhances, and I'm quoting from Mids here:Dispari I thought Pistols had different Ammo you can switch to? Like Acid rounds or something? Powerboost would surely enhance that.
Stun
Sleep
Confuse
Terror
Immobilize
Held
Run Speed
Fly Speed
Defense (all)
Heal
ToHit
Endurance Drain
From what we know so far, the effects of the pistols will be lethal (no known secondary benefit), fire (+DoT), cryo (-speed/-rech), and toxic (unknown benefit). Power Boost shouldn't affect any of those. Except mayyyybe the -speed in your cryo stuff, but not the recharge.
Power Boost doesn't just boost everything that exists. It has a pretty strict guideline, limited mostly to mezzes and +DEF. I don't even have it on my Energy/Energy because it basically does nothing. Boosts stun in two of my powers, but that's not worth devoting a slot to. -
Quote:I may be missing something here, possibly in Arc's post. And if I am, pardon my silliness as I'm feeling a tad queasy tonight. But I have more than one Brute that pushes past the limits of what Scrappers can do.1. There are no "resistance sets" that are unfairly penalized by lower resistance caps except for one: Electric Armor ported to Scrappers. The lower cap almost certainly alters the intended effect of Power surge. However, in all other cases where the cap comes into play, it seems to be doing so specifically *for* game balance reasons, not contrary to them.
Elec is certainly punished to a degree. Not only does it not reach 90% on energy passively, but it also doesn't reach 90% in tier 9 mode. Comparatively, a Brute not only gets 90% to energy while just hanging out, but can hit 90% vs all in tier 9 mode. Double-whammy there.
My Invuln Brute has 70% vs S/L (Tough). Any RES buff in the game will push her over what a Scrapper can do. Small orange, tarot, any +RES shield. Not only that, she can hit 90% vs all in Unstop. A Scrapper could only hit 75% vs all. And with a 70% to start off, tarot, oranges, and shields can only add 5% at most, while they have a further 20% to go on my Brute.
I have a WP Brute, again with Tough. When SoW is up, which is fairly frequent, she hits 83% to S/L. That's again past what a Scrapper can do.
Stone hits 71%. With Tough, can hit nearly 90%.
Even if we're talking Shield, Dark, or Fire. With Tough and Demonic, the Brute can push over 75% by themselves, attaining what a Scrapper cannot.
I do think the 90% was a mistake. This coming from someone who has three level 50 Brutes with three more past 40. In fact, Brutes in general seem to be a bit over the top in max stats. A while back I wanted to propose a standardization of RES caps and max HP caps, but the whole thing came across as a "nerf Brutes" because they were effectively the ONLY AT that needed either one of those stats lowered (most ATs in fact needed things raised).
While the 90% probably shouldn't be messed with, it would be nice to see Stalkers pushed to 80% and Scrappers pushed to 85%. Or maybe at the very least Scrappers at 80%. -
The VG I'm in is far too active to have anything over 100. We had some in the 150s but those people get booted when new people come in.
On one of my heroes, I was part of a duo that was never on. My friend had over 1000 offline last I checked, before we got booted. So maybe not as impressive as the OP, but I get to be part of the problem! \

Quote:I see. If that's the case, misunderstanding, and I apologise. He's trying to say that Pistols should do the same proportionate distance in-game as they do in RL. Which, once conversions are done, means Pistols would have ~12' of range.
Either way, thinking of pistols as having to follow the "scale" of AR is a bad idea. The "scale" is not there to be realistic, but to balance things. All ranged sets have a range of around 80 feet, with more or less depending on circumstances. In fact, AR DOES even have longer range. It has Burst at 90, Slug at 100, and Full Auto at 80 (cones are usually 40-60). There's no doubt though that if AR had a range of 600 feet, it would be crazy overpowered.
However, if we're supposed to imagine the scale as realistic, we'd also need a good explanation on why psi, fire, ice, elec, energy, and guns all just happen to shoot at exactly the same distance. And there's no point or need to roleplay that away. It's a gameplay mechanic, and nothing more.
Pistols don't need to follow any such "scale," they merely need to be balanced with other sets. Having pistols be 8-20 feet would not balance them with ANYTHING. They'd be too short for a ranged set and too long for a melee set. -
A meter is about one yard. A yard is three feet. 200 meters is 200 yards. Which is about 600 feet. You're doing the math backward.
-
Quote:10, 25, and 50 meters is about 30, 75, and 150 feet. Which is well within the realm of what our normal ranged attacks do, which is usually 80, with some being 40 or 60 for cones, and snipes being about 150.Actually movies are only place pistols hit anything beyond 50 feet. Most RL Pistol fights are much closer. Duels usually ended with both sides running out of bullets (more due to liquor than gun accuracy though)
This is fantasy, but when real world weapons are brought in it would be nice for them to follow some real world physics. Pistols are short range, usually not much more that 50 ft. Olympic events for pistols are for 10, 25, and 50 meters vs rifles at 200, 300, and 600 meters. Pistols are actually melee weapons with range.
Buuut even then, it's true this is a fantasy realm where it should be no issue to shoot 80ish feet. Because the alternative is a melee set where they'd only be able to shoot 7 feet. And that's just ridiculous. So if the option is between having pistols shoot 80 feet and having pistols shoot 7 feet, well... let's go with the obvious one. -
Quote:Basically, villains have been without Tankers and Defenders from the beginning. We've never had high self-defense or high buff numbers, and our content is even HARDER! And we still do just fine. We aren't going to suddenly start needing Tankers and Defenders when we can cross over.I think a lot of blueside only players often forget that on redside, players "manage" to complete the LRSF regularly without Tankers or the higher buff numbers of Defenders.
Heck blueside doesn't even need them now -- that's why they're such unpopular ATs. -
Quote:It suppresses in combat. I use NR exclusively on two toons currently, and use it intermittently on several others. You definitely slow after attacking with NR.Combat doensn't slow Ninja Run. You can smack someone and run at the same speed before and after...can't you? I keep NR on if the toon can handle the endurance drain and I think I move the same. You've got me doubting myself.
Just turn on NR, run past a foe and hit them, and watch the few seconds of slow movement that follow before it picks back up. -
So what's the third highest pop server again? I wanna say Justice.

Yeah, but there are plenty of sets you could take if you just want BU.
Fire would give you Consume, Hot Feet, Blazing Aura, Lightning Field, Shocking Grasp
Elec would give you Power Sink
Ice would give you Ice Patch, Shiver, Chilling Embrace, Frozen Aura, Freezing Touch
Mind would give Drain Psyche, World of Confusion, Scare
Energy really doesn't give as much utility, at least not for Pistols, as far as I'm concerned. But YMMV. -
The "self buffs" really only add Boost Range. You can get Power Boost but it doesn't seem like that will be able to affect much, if anything in pistols. Boost Range admittedly is a cool addition to most ranged sets, except that it appears DP will have a PBAoE mini-nuke for its tier 9, so you may want to be in melee range anyway. I'd probably suggest Devices, of those options.
-
Quote:Are you basing this off actual experience, or off that one cool movie you saw?I don't see Pistols having range, otherwise it would just be AR 2.0. Most Pistol fights are close range, close range and blasters is not normally a good combination.
Anyway, they're already ranged sets. They aren't going to be melee weapons, or for Scrappers. Pistols are for Blasters, Corruptors, and Defenders. -
Quote:I would welcome any attack chain you could come up with that could once and for all convince people to stop avoiding Stalkers.I am tempted to work out stalker attack chain DPS values (assuming they don't exist). I don't really see them lagging much if any behind a scrapper.

From the video it looks like the set has a ranged cone, a targeted AoE, and a PBAoE. But it also seems to have at least 3, if not 4 ST attacks too. Counting change ammo, that leaves one power at least up to speculation.
