Quote:Does your ice tank have big hair and shoulderpads?I have an ice tank that I made around Issue 1 or 2 and played to a whoppin level 5. Didnt touch him until I moved him last week. It is hilarious to compare the costumes from back then to now. It like watching an 80s movie with the difference in fashion

Hm. Well I do know about the mechanics of -RES vs targets that have actual RES already. But I was thinking that AVs resist debuffs anyway so I'd get a really small portion of that. Or am I confused on some details there (like AVs not having bonus -RES RES?).
-
Looking at your build I have a question. Is the -RES proc really that useful? It's a 20% for -20%, and isn't most of that going to be resisted anyway? Wouldn't I get more mileage out of a Hecatomb proc or something? I could swing a purple proc if it would be useful enough.
I'm also wondering how useful slotting up +DMG would be. I know it's more or less "halved" after enhancements, but is it still worth trying it if I have the room? -
Quote:If you want to offer a build, I can work with it. I tend to make builds without purples or PvP IOs. That may be kind of limiting for a high-end build. I have enough to grab most regular stuff (I outfitted my Brute with a bunch of Kinetic Combat sets), but most purples aren't worth the investment to me, and PvP IOs are right-out. My widow does have two purple pieces (a proc and another piece to capitalize on the recov). But in general, I'd like to avoid.I can give you a build if you give me a budget. I feel reluctant to give you a "dear god, I can feel my wallet shrink just by looking at it" build, especially if you've already got one of those toons.
This is going to be more for fun than anything, so I don't want to make it a bunch of work by filling to the brim on crazy-expensive stuff. However, if that's an unreasonable expectation, let me know now. -
Quote:There's a blueside mission with a 10 minute timer that I've never come close to completing without stealth of some sort.there is one mission (in the whole game) where you can fail if you don't Stealth it. One of those Vanguard arcs, if you wipe out all the patrols it will be a failed mission (or maybe it doesn't--I never failed that mission on purpose to see if the mission text was lying and you could murderize all the rikti with impunity or not)
-
So I dusted off a character from Pinnacle who is basically my oldest toon on my account. She's a level 45 Katana/Regen. After bringing her over and outfitting her with common IOs, I played her a bit and was amazed at how fast katana is, having forgotten about it for so long. I also got to play with the new MoG, since the last time I touched her, MoG was crap.
I have a Brute I use to farm, I have a Widow I use for TFs, but I don't have a toon to do crazy stuff like solo AVs or Pylons. I tried to get my Widow to do it, but although she probably has the DPS, I'd have to mangle her build to put in Aid Self. And I spent too much on her to do that.
Not exactly asking for a build (though builds would be nice), but I am curious if Katana/Regen is worthwhile for a toon of this sort. What kind of DPS am I going to need to handle pylons? Am I going to need to invest in procs? And I may be wrong, but I believe the DPS chain I saw someone using was:
GC -> Sting -> GC -> SD
GC -> Sting -> GC -> GD
If that's the one I'm shooting for, what recharge do I need, and what sort of slotting should I look for? Also I imagine I'm going to need to build up some defenses, so about how much DEF for each position should I shoot for? Or do I need to sacrifice some DPS to fit in DA?
Oh and I'd still like to be a team-viable build so I plan on fitting in FS and Lotus in my build too. Tough/Weave are probable, and I'm using NR as a travel power currently (but still have CJ and Hasten).
I'm a first-timer on trying to build up for AVs and Pylons, so go easy on me. Any advice would help. -
Quote:The problem with missions where damage and regular interactions are minimalized is that people complain that the whole point of their character is eliminated. If the missions are too reliant on NPCs, objects, or cutscenes people start to complain that they're too gimmicky. Even the Reichsman fight redside has been complained about due to the temp powers. If there are missions where people can do the whole thing without needing to attack or use their powers, they'll say "Well what do I have all these powers for then?"I think one of the key problems is mission design. Having more innovative missions where damage is of less importantance would shift things from just needing to kill enemies. Examples have been given on ways to improve stealth missions.
GW has some nice gimmick missions though. Would be a good place to start. -
Quote:Sounds like you're proposing a new game entirely, as this game several pure fighter classes, and people like them. I know I like mine. Maybe I don't want to do anything besides beat people's skulls in.I never said anything about boosting anything. I'm talking about a redesign and a mentality shift away from "fighting" as a perk that some have but others don't, and into "fighting" being a base skill set that everybody has. A design which starts everyone as a decent fighter and offers everyone the skills needed to become an even better one, if he should choose to go for them. Such a system wouldn't really allow for any pure fighters, as everyone can be a fighter AND something else, so a pure fighter would be inherently weaker all around.

So with the addition of the server transfers, I'm getting a few toons transferred over that were old classics on my original server. I used to play on Pinnacle back in the day. In doing so, I found some real ancient toons.
The one I just transferred over has no IOs of any sort. She's using all SOs. Not only that, some of the SOs are still gray. She has no recipes.
She had no vet rewards claimed. I'm up to 36 now. She must've existed and been played before vet rewards were released.
Logging her in earned me more than 15 badges.
She has 39 free tailor tokens, not counting vet.
She doesn't have an Ouroboros portal, despite being 32.
Her costumes are using outdated texture names (?) and trying to edit them defaults everything to tights.
She has a large pocket full of base salvage. Anyone need Body Armor Fragments, EChips, or Fir Bolg Hands?
What's your dustiest toon? -
Here's what I'm thinking as far as the "all ATs should have base stats that allow them to do combat." Right now that's already possible, as Arc said, just not necessarily at the speed at which people want.
Now if Defenders are boosted to a level where people are satisfied with the damage they do and the speed at which they kill, most other ATs would be pointless. Why play less capable ATs like Blasters if the damage isn't worth it? So if a Defender's damage is boosted up significantly, the damage of all the other ATs would have to be increased proportionally as well. So Defenders would get a 50% increase (random number), and so would everyone else. At that point, nothing has changed (except enemies die faster all around), and Defenders are still considered slow by comparison, and low damage dealers.
So unless the suggestion is to reduce the stat difference between ATs and bring them all closer to one another, trying to boost the "weak" ATs to a point where they can deal significant damage just creates a mess and doesn't solve anything. -
Quote:Where's my animated tail and tail+belt then? The main reason I think the mutant pack will have animal stuff in it is because CO has quite a bit of animal stuff in their costume creator, and the devs here seem to be picking off the few good points in CO one by one

This is almost impossible though. Someone will ALWAYS feel that they need to laugh at or talk down to the person and tell them how pathetic they are. Unfortunately, that's exactly what they want you to do, and ensures they won't leave you alone. As soon as someone feels they need to "put them in their place" by telling them how sad they are, the griefer gets the okay to proceed.
-
Considering this relies heavily on killing yourself to achieve, is that such a bad thing? I don't think it makes sense for EM to not be the best, or only be slightly better than the others, if you have to repeatedly damage yourself to attain it.

Quote:Actually, there's everything wrong with having overpowered sets. People flock to those sets and don't play anything else. Then people complain that no other power combinations are valid and they can't just play for concept and get good results because if they aren't playing Set X, they're gimp. Imagine all the people coming in who want to play Broadsword, Storm, Pain Domination, or whatever, when really everyone they talk to is telling them how incredibly powerful WM/EA is (lulz) and they shouldn't play anything else.Oh wow...hrmm that does sound nice. Why did they nerf it again? Overpowered? What's wrong with having one or two overpowered sets. Surely this is still in reality today and people don't always roll Bots/Traps lol. (even though they nerfed traps)
This becomes a big problem if you just handwave it as being okay since it's only "one or two" overpowered sets. Eventually overpowered sets have to be looked at and toned down. And the longer they're allowed to sit, and the more people flock to them, the more people you risk annoying, especially if you aren't careful and overnerf it.
Of course, underpowered sets are just as bad. So it's a bad idea to keep those around without looking into them too.
Right now I'd call EM underpowered. It's not tops on ST damage. Which in and of itself doesn't make the bad set. But that also comes in conjunction with extremely poor AoE. And its mitigation is pretty low as well. Essentially the set doesn't excel at anything, and isn't even a "jack of all trades" set where it does everything decent. It does nothing. -

Quote:If you're standing in the ski lodge, you're no less than 50 feet from the NPC that gives out snowballs as a reward for candy canes. I can't think of any place in the game where people are more likely to be hit by random snowballs that people are playing with. In your analogy, it's not just a pub/bar where people are for some unfathomable reason throwing snowballs at eachother. It's a pub/bar where there's literally a guy in the middle of the room, handing out snowballs from a cooler.Points I'd like to raise having read through this thread, someone mentioned that throwing snowballs in such a zone is natural and should be expected.
If someone came into a pub/bar and started hurling snow at people, they'd probably pretty quickly get asked to leave. This wasn't a case of being outside on the snow, it was a case of people being inside that freaky glass, wood and metal chalet, by the bar and with the big fire roaring nearby, getting pelted. -
Quote:Yeah, but they're lazy and never use their powers in a logical way! They're always using AoE mezzes on single enemies, as they die. Or run up out of my buff radius to use Brawl when they have three ranged attacks! You get six friends who will never outlevel you, who are always logged in the same times you are, and who cannot quit your team no matter how many times you get them killed.
They're slow on leveling up and fall behind more and more as I level up. They never use inspirations unless I make them. They barely take any good powers, and in fact by level 50 they probably only have like five powers they even use. And even though they never quit even if they die, they get me killed plenty!
They're very inconsiderate and bad players! I don't think they even speak English, because they never respond when I complain. But even with all their failings, they're better players than my regular friends. -
Quote:One time isn't harassment, no. Continuing to do so after being asked not to is, yes.I'm sorry, but no. If someone chucks a snowball at you, ok valid. One time isn't harassment, griefing, etc. But - You have *every right* to ask them to stop. They can go throw snowballs at someone who wants to play that part of the game.
But my point is that if they're standing in a zone where that sort of thing is commonplace, stopping every person who happens to run by and hits them with a snowball, that's stupid and unreasonable.
I could understand if you were somewhere like Cap au Diable trying to RP with a friend, and a single person runs by and lobs a snowball. But to honestly stand in the very-busy snow zone and tell people not to throw snowballs at you? You're essentially standing in the middle of a crossfire with a sign that says "Don't shoot me." Maybe the people doing it ARE jerks, but you're asking for it.
I don't condone lobbing snowballs at people when they ask you not to. But I also don't think that someone should stand on the globe in Warburg and broadcast "Excuse me, but I'm going to be RPing here in Warburg. Nobody PvP with me or I'll petition you, because I politely asked you not to."
If anything, it seems more like the person is looking for a fight. If you want to RP and not get hit with snowballs, the last place you should be is next to the NPC that gives out snowballs.
Quote:They're not telling you to stop throwing snowballs. They're asking you to stop throwing snowballs at them. If you refuse, then yes, you are - quite frankly - being a jerk about it, and have no reason to complain when you get /petitioned. They've made it clear they don't want to take part in your snowball fight or be your target. Move on.
But I also think standing in the number one most likely place to be hit with a snowball, telling people not to throw snowballs at you, is just provoking people. Or you're otherwise ignorant to the fact that you're being unreasonable.
Quote:Now, if they told *everyone* in the zone to stop skiing, stop throwing snowballs, etc, they'd be over the line, and probably laughed (and snowballed) out of the zone. If they were busy doing "rp" blocking, say, the top of the ski slope, Father Time or the other NPCs? Then their RP would be disruptive. But a little group in a corner doing their own thing? No reason they shouldn't be left alone if they ask.
It's a big zone, everyone has space to do their own thing.
To be clear, I don't have a problem with someone asking somebody not to hit them with snowballs. Or not to play loud emotes repeatedly, or spam their loud and visual powers, or anything that someone could find annoying. What I do have a problem with is standing in a place where those things are commonplace or even expected, and thinking that you should get to alter the actions of everyone in the zone, or else petition them.
If I stood on the dance floor of Pocket D telling people not to dance because it's distracting, I'd get just the sort of feedback as standing in the ski lodge telling people not to throw snowballs at me. If it really bothers you that much, you need to relocate. Not stick around and try to bully people into doing what you think they should be up to with the threat of petition. That's being a jerk.
I agree that the person the OP dealt with needed to be petitioned for intentionally griefing. But I don't agree that the OP should be standing at snowball ground zero, telling every person who throws a snowball at them to knock it off. -
Quote:What about my poor Mastermind who does less damage than a Defender? I'm giving up everything!"Giving up" is not the right way to think about it. The right way to think about it is, using CoH as the example, everyone starts off with Defender damage and no range. Then Defenders got range and buffs. Scrappers got more damage and self-defense. Blasters got more damage and range. No one really "gave up" anything to get what they got, except from a relative perspective.

So where from do they send the emails? I should add the address to my whitelist.

Let's not talk realism with redraw when what actually happens is far less realistic than what should be occurring. Even if if were realistic, there's a need to draw a line between "realistic" and "fun," and redraw really isn't that fun. -
Quote:If you want to use a narrow definition of roleplay that would mean playing Pong means you're roleplaying as a paddle, okay. You may be able to take away the role playing dialog but you can never take away the role playing avatar(your character) or the role playing world (paragon city or RI).
Basically put...whenever you are playing this game, you are never not role-playing.
But I still disagree, as there's a vast difference between me holding an in-character conversation with someone in Pocket D, and me standing around giving someone advice on how to respec their toon through tells.
I'm not roleplaying or pretending to be anyone but me when I'm talking through tells. My avatar is just my vessel, which I am driving. Like a car. I'm not roleplaying a car when I go to the store. Unless I go "vroom vroom!"
