You honestly get more out of Hurdle than either Sprint or Swift.
-
Honestly even if someone was in an SG called "don't buff me" I probably wouldn't even notice. I have no issues not re-buffing someone if they ask me not to, but I think I've only ever had one person complain about a drive-by buff in the 39 months I've been playing.
If you ask nicely not to buff you that's one thing, but this whole "you should never buff anyone because it interferes with my playstyle" thing seems more like a one-man crusade to have everyone play your way. You can't expect everyone who comes by to not buff you, and yelling at them for it is just pointless instigation. -
Gosh, I never knew how much of a quitter Dr Aeon was. Thanks for telling me, Television. *sits to watch more TV*

I went over Devices before in a post. Pretty much the only power I wouldn't change in some sort of way is Caltrops. I just don't think the set does anything useful for the vast majority of situations.
-
Quote:I was always meh on those sets. I rarely get use out of techy type things. As you can imagine I haven't used valkyrie much either. I do get use out of shoulderpads and boots a lot, and that set was no exception. And recently I did get to use Justice for one costume that I was happy with.FYI, after counting things up it was pretty much an even split between Mac and GvR, so I arbitrarily went with GvR. My initial thoughts are:
COSTUME PACKS: Decent. Not fantastic, but a few pieces I could see using. That said, getting two full sets is always helpful.
Quote:JET PACK: Meh. The 30 second limit makes it less useful than I had hoped, but I'm sure it will help out a little. Really, Ninja Run is so full of awesome that it nerfs the utility of the jet pack somewhat.
Quote:POCKET D TELEPORT: Most of the areas I can access via Pocket D I can already do via Ourobous, but it opens up a few more options for me which should help to get around. This will be very handy during holiday events at least, and is good for quick vault access.
Quote:POCKET D VIP: Always nice to get behind a closed door, and quick access to a tailor is fantastic for a costume ***** like me. -
Or more realistically you could take them along on some sort of level 50 farm mission for just a few minutes to get them to whatever level you wanted to get them to. It would be identical to street sweeping farming, and could be done exponentially faster because you could actually be at a level where you have useful powers. Building up a level 8 character would be a ton of work to do one thing, and quite poorly compared to all the other existing options. Just saying.

I think our current system is decent. It's not great and it could be far better, but there's enough diversity to not call ED a waste.
You can do just SOs or standard IOs. But there's not much variety there. I mean, is there anyone who doesn't slot their attacks for 3x damage? Or doesn't put 3 RES slots in Temp Invuln? People are still slotting to the maximum.
As far as IOs go, there is variety there to a small degree. But there are too many junk sets and not enough alternatives. There are really only a couple things worth building for, and if you look at builds you're going to see the same sets springing up all the time. It's not like people are hitting new milestones and creating awesome new builds using sets like Trap of the Hunter or Pacing of the Turtle. It's all Positron's Blast and Luck of the Gambler.
Still, it's better than just having everyone 6-slot attacks and put all damages in them. -
Hmm, so this is happening on the same day, but at a different time than whatever this is.

If you play a lot of female toons, I'd recommend wedding pack. The patterns that come with it are very useful, because A) they're some of the only textured pieces you get, and B) they match the magic pack parts almost too well.
Other than that I'd recommend valkyrie and then GvE, with cyborg being dead last. -
Radiation secondary seems doable, since the powers Shivans use are basically Peacebringer powers. And I still hold out hope for secondaries involving Martial Arts or Katanas.
-
With SSK and the exemp system, it seems far more reasonable that you just exemp a toon down to 8 who has access to more powers and more slots. A level 8 is no match for a level 50 exemped down to 8. Or even 22 down to 8.

I checked to see if we weren't missing something and there was a newer article somewhere that actually had an interview, but no, this is the most recent link. I wonder if they'll post something new in the next day or two.

Quote:Would you take away the Vanguard, Roman, and upcoming Clockwork pieces?I actually like the way things are.
Whilst I'd love to have every costume option to play with, I feel there needs to be a distinctiveness in appearance with the npc's, it makes them a lot more unique. I don't mind getting a couple of pieces of their costumes, but it feels wrong to me if I have their entire appearance.Because it doesn't seem to me like we aren't getting pieces because they don't want us to look like NPCs. They don't seem totally opposed to giving us some pieces, or even complete sets. It appears totally random/arbitrary that we get some pieces and not others.

Quote:It would be? Maybe I'm getting too much out of this, but I've seen a slow progression where we seemed to be moving away from "players can't have this" lately. Let me think.especially in light of how it would be an exception to how things have worked so far (in terms of players getting NPC costumes).
It all started with minor things like Cabal hat. Things that are faction-specific but we were allowed to have.
Then, we got faction-specific emblems. Not a lot of course, but it allows people to make characters who represent the respective factions. Later on, we got Arachnos helmets.
Unlockable weapons and shields. Ever had a toon that swings a Tsoo Katana or uses an Ascendant Shield? Well these are things that NPCs have that we like, and were given.
Cimerora and RWZ came out which both introduced new factions with their own outfits. But if you notice, those outfits were given to players too. There are a few things that we didn't get, like the clothes sybils wear, but for the most part new things added were given to players too.
With Going Rogue, when we saw the new Clockwork parts, we were told those were unlockable and available to players. Good; the trend of new things being given to players continues.
Then this, which we're told isn't for players. Maybe there is a long history of things going to NPCs that we'll never have. But that hasn't really been the case lately.
There's an enormous database of costume parts that players don't have. Some of them for technical reasons, some of them for visual reasons, and some of them for no real reason at all. Is the only reason I can't have ripped jeans because NPCs have them? If so, that's sad. But I think if there's anything that time has taught us, it's that players don't like not having cool looking costume parts that are introduced. And I think care should be taken when showing off things that players can't have.
Considering the trend of giving players faction-specific armor lately, including in Going Rogue already that we know of, and that as people have pointed out, we'll be able to "join the Resistance," I don't think it's unreasonable that people thought that this would be something players can have. -
Quote:Are there really any costume parts we don't want? Personally speaking, I don't even like the way the system works where every gang has unique costume pieces that we can never have, from complicated things like Freakshow arms down to baseline stuff like Hellions having ripped jeans. That being said, your overwhelming response to the armor did not go unnoticed by the Devs, so they are definitely aware that if there is ever an opportunity to bring you costume pieces of this nature, you want them!
One thing I don't like is when new things are added for NPCs which have limited visibility and flexibility when everyone involved knows players will basically never have it. If you look around the forums you'll notice that things people keep asking for are things like animated hair, loincloths, back options, and glowing outfits. So to make matters worse by adding even more stuff that players will never get to have is kind of stoking the fires.
I would think after things like Vanguard and Cimeroroans having new costume parts that we can have, new things in the future would be modeled around that concept, and not restricted as such. Maybe that means not adding new things that are as visually appealing as they could be, but I think I prefer that to adding new things that the devs know up front that they won't ever give to the players. -
You're really taking this to some really severe extremes. Just because someone plays with costumes doesn't mean they don't do anything else. I think if you're basing your entire argument on the idea that anyone who even looks at costumes does nothing else, you're way off base. I also don't even think such a hypothetical person even exists.

Quote:I doubt that will be the case. If anything I expect War Witch to have a larger emphasis on silly things on the side than other devs have had. Before being promoted to lead dev, WW was the person who made world maps and all the silly dialogue that NPCs make. The maps have a heavy attention to detail, and some have goofy easter eggs and special hidden areas. And she listened to players about removing the AE building from Croatoa. If anyone has an eye and ear for extra fun things that players want, I think it's her.All in all, my largest concern about War Witch, is that she may not put the same weight on these things as the lead Devs before her. I fear Jay, and Babs will spend all of their time on new enemy groups, instead of making new things for us. That may be w/o basis, but it is still MY fear.

And now, a counterargument from Dizzy.
Quote:a couple of icons and a screenshot.
Quote:Costumes dont make this game.
Quote:Infact some of my 50s dint even get a new costume until they were 50. Lots of my toons have upwards of 73 free tailor sessions
Quote:I really doubt adding more costumes is going to make me more inclined to make more costumes.
Quote:I realize its not done yet but it looks to me as if there is nothing much to do in that passage way it will be just another place you superspeed through and take no notice of. See what I did there?

If suppressed, the DEF values are the same. If not, Stealth has double the DEF of CJ. Of course, that only matters if enemies attack you while you're sneaking around. And it's not much DEF anyway.

Pretty much any class can work as a mage if you use the right powers. But in my opinion, a mage is a squishy type person who uses abilities from far away (or can but doesn't always) and has a variety of spells to use. So I'd recommend:
1) Dominator - Doms do pretty high damage; some of the best in the game actually. But they're really squishy and easy to kill if they don't handle their control. Their sets are control/assault, which means their primary is devoted to mezzes and control while their secondary is a mix of melee and ranged attacks. They're redside (villains) and almost always have pets.
2) Controller - Controllers do very little damage until high levels, but they do have all sorts of neat abilities. You can play Controller as a sort of support mage who exists to help out friends rather than directly destroy things. Controllers are blueside (heroes) and have control/buff, meaning their primary job is to control enemies by locking them down and preventing them from attacking, and their secondary role is to buff and debuff to support a team and themselves. Controllers almost always have pets.
3) Defender/Corruptor - These two are a lot alike. Defenders are blueside, Corruptors redside. Both have ranged attacks and buffs/debuffs, just Defenders are more buff/debuff oriented and Corruptors are more damage oriented. You get blast attacks with some secondary debuff effects built in as well as a set of buffs and debuffs to support your friends and teammates.
4) Blaster - Blueside toon. Blasters are pure damage. They have ranged and melee attacks, as well as some self-buff powers. Blasters are pretty much the best flat-out damage dealers in the game and tend to get a variety of different attack types. Blasters will often also have debuffs and other secondary effects in their powers, and some even have other special abilities like Sonic's mass sleep or Ice's ice patch. As a mage, Blasters are much more straight-forward and mostly focused on dealing damage with less emphasis on the side-stuff that the others listed above have.
Hopefully some of that helps. And welcome to the game!

Quote:I reckon this is worth hearing repeated a few more times. To whomever it may concern at NCSoft,
Please take notice as to how much excitement and happiness you cause within your player base by simply releasing a screenshot and a background story. There is no excuse for 2-3 month gaps with no updates at all. It takes so little to do so much. Please try to release some new news every couple weeks. No matter how small, any little tid bit of info like this goes a long way in curbing pestimistic feelings about this game and fustration in general.
Just one players opinion.
Also, good stuff!
