I make every toon in Mids before even opening CoH. If I can't fit the powers I want, with the number of slots I want, in the order I want, I abandon it. I refuse to make any toon without Hasten. I don't however play cookie-cutter characters and I plan everything with standard IOs.

Quote:That's not the whole story though. This is such an obnoxious post, accusing Paragon and NCsoft of stooping to Roper-tactics. This isn't difficult, really -- an upgrade for the game is 10 dollars cheaper than buying the entire game (29.99 versus 39.99) and its not different from any other company's marketing multiple skus for a product. Oh, and btw, as a bit of a loyalty reward for existing account holders, you can pre-order the upgrade with the little bonus of early access to the new powers.
The drama over this is mind-boggling.

In summary:
Digital only: $29.99
Compete edition: $39.99
You're right so far that the complete costs more because it's the entire game. But let's look at what else the differences are.
Complete has: 30 days of game time, physical perks like DVD and poster, in-game perks like bonus outfits and emotes, and the original CoH/CoV.
Digital has: Early access to DP/DS.
You can do digital now, and then buy the in-game perks later. The assumption is that it'll be $9.99, meaning:
Digital+pack: $39.98
Complete: $39.99
Complete still has 30 days of game time (value: $14.99), the original CoH/CoV, and physicals like DVD, poster, and whatnot. Complete is the better value by far, because you get 30 days of game time free. But if you want early access to DP/DS, you can't buy this version. You have to go ditigal+pack, and end up paying the same amount to get less product.
The only advantage to digital+pack is that you get early access. Which means early access is NOT a "little bonus," because we have to lose out on a free 30 days and physical perks to get it. That means we aren't getting early access for free, as a perk, or a thank you; we're paying at least $15 for it.
Now this doesn't bother me that much, but I can see why people are upset. I doubt it's some malicious plan to try and steal our money, but it does leave one scratching one's head. -

Here's my last DP toon in my sig. The other two are posted a few pages back if interested.
DP/Dark Corruptor. Finally settled on a build I like in Mids too. Double holds will be great. I haven't decided on a name yet (Ardent Black on test, but I already have a toon named that on live). I figure she's going to be some sort of vampire or vampire hunter. -

Quote:I'm not that worried or complaining myself, but I can see why people are. Let me point out the processes and values:This thread is, again, proof positive that people will, in fact, find a way to complain about anything.

Two New Powerset Head Start?: No.
COH:GR ITEM PACK (GR:PAK)
Cost: No cost announced (guesstimate of $5-15 based on previous packs).
Prepurchase available: None
Preorder available: None
Requires: COH/COV and GR:X (Expansion)
Free Month?: No
Distribution: Digital* only, in July.
Retail/Box Goodies: Not applicable.
GR Item Pack Included?: This is the Item Pack!
Two New Powerset Head Start?: No.
Digital only (early access, no physical, no goodies): $29.99
Digital+pack (early access, no physical): $39.99 (estimate based on pack prices)
Complete (no early access): $39.99 (actual value: $24.99)
Complete comes with a free month, while the other method does not. Meaning the total value of the complete edition is $39.99 - $15 for a total of $24.99, but then you don't get early access. If you don't buy the complete, you still have to buy time. You can get every possible perk, digital+complete, but that costs $69.98, or if you subtract the value of the 30 days, $54.98.
So, if you want early access you have to pay more. And you don't get physical (unless you pay WAY more). If you want physical, you don't get early access (unless you pay way more again). So no matter what approach, there's a significant downside.
Personally, I'm doing digital+pack, as I don't care about the physical. But I'm still out that free time. But there are people who do care about the physical stuff. I'm paying the same $39.99 that someone who buys complete is paying, and still don't get the free time they get, or the physical bonuses. It seems like a bad scheme, since no matter what your approach, you lose something. Either early access, physical perks, or money. The way it's set up, early access isn't a perk or a thank you to people paying early. We're almost literally paying for early access. And it costs at least $15. -

A friend of mine recently came up with a new statement which he calls the Theory of Theories. Since this thread is all theorycraft, I thought it would be appropriate.
The theory is that every theoretical debate has three arguments, and that argument C is always correct.
Argument A: My theory is the truth, but I can't prove it.
Argument B: Your theory is a lie, but I can't prove it.
Argument C: Shut up.
Of course, this is just a theory. And I can't prove it. -

Very eager to get into DS. But I wouldn't say it's the only thing I care about.

Quote:I've outfitted four of my toons on redside with IOs. Elec/Inv Brute, Widow, Necro/Dark MM, Axe/Shield Brute. I didn't have any problems getting the IOs I wanted. I didn't have to pay out the wazoo for them. I don't farm drops or play the market. I only did a bit of meriting to get some really expensive or in-demand ones like LotGs (which are just as bad blueside). So... I don't see anything wrong with it?What do you feel is right with it? This is really a curiosity question. I'm not looking for debate or to start fighting. I really want to know what it is that people feel is good about the red market.
This is all subjective. And your mileage may vary. For me? Seems fine. -
DP/Traps Corr, Riley Tiranis. All her stuff is a pale green. Ammo of choice: chem.
Sandra Dubeaux, DP/MM Blaster. Ammo of choice: incendiary.
Yeah I got lazy with outfit design on this one. -
Quote:The pictures are probably Photoshopped anyway.Whoa, hold your horses there Chad...just because some red name said it doesn't mean it's so, and you can't just go quoting things around these parts. Why, just the other day someone told me the sky was blue. I refuse to look out the window I'm sitting next to--I want a report with documented photographs!

I tend to shy away from FotM sets. That means my SS/WP, Arch/MM, and Fire/Kin sit on a shelf getting dusty because I don't want to seem like another one of those people that just made the sets because they're so popular. I stumbled upon the combos independently of the popularity, but still can't justify playing them.
-
Two things about this:
1) Not having Eagle's Claw I think is more realistic, even though I'm sure we'd all love to do extra flips with our pistols. Take note that none of the other Blaster sets have an actual tier 9 melee power. TF doesn't count; if it had the strongest attack from EM, it would be ET. So if we really were to get this set, I doubt we'd get EC. Similarly, Dark Manip probably wouldn't have MG.
2) The t1 doesn't fall in-line with existing tier 1s. It's just an attack. The t1 should be some sort of ranged immobilize, or at the very least a melee knockback power. Something the Blaster can use to keep enemies away from them, basically.
That said, I'd like some more "natural" choices for Blaster secondaries. Including martial arts, katana, and dual blades. -
Quote:Yes it does. Opinions can't be wrong OR right. You can disagree with them, but your opinion isn't right and mine isn't wrong. Opinions are opinions; they can't be wrong or right. If they could be wrong or right, and thus proven to be either one state or another in all instances, they would be facts and not opinions. And "Scrappers are better than Stalkers" will always be an opinion, not a fact. You can certainly have an opinion but that doesn't stop it from being wrong.
