Quote:One thing that always amuses me (I would say surprises, but honestly it doesn't surprise me) is all the people on the test server acting like things are done and that the devs are incompetent fools for things being the way they are. Every time a server goes down or a zone crashes there's a rage thread about how stupid the devs are and how they can't even keep a simple zone up. And as soon as the gates open and something needs testing, people complain that the new set sucks, the devs dropped the ball, and nobody will play the set on live. Nevermind we haven't even gotten one balance patch yet and the person didn't offer ANY feedback about WHY it sucks -- the devs are morons! It is not uncommon for the servers to be brought down on a moment's notice, for whole zones to stop working, for clients to randomly crash, and for odd things to happen to characters and other test server entities.
Early beta testing is not about providing the devs with your highly valuable insight. Its about trying to make everything work correctly and at all.
I tried to do some explaining and consoling during the DP closed, since we were absolutely flooded with people complaining about zones being down and being stuck in the queue. I think the majority of it fell on deaf ears though. And I swear someone ragequit over DP sucking before we even got the first patch.
I did a lot of stuff this last beta and found a handful of amusing (read: broken) junk. I hope that's enough to get me into the i17 because while I do want to see and play with the new stuff, I always enjoyed breaking things in humorous ways. I did more this last beta than I think I've ever done (although I did a lot during the AE open and that didn't get me anywhere).

Quote:Uhh, I don't think you can really compare:The same way exploits screwed over the game for everyone who doesn't want to use them before; near-impossible to form non-farming teams, high-level zones are filled with clueless powerlevelled newbies that have no idea how to use their powers, nobody playing non-50 content, etc.
* The storm that was AE at launch where everyone could run giant missions of boss exp enemies that don't fight back for absolutely ludicrous exp and every person in every zone was swarming around the AE to do massively exploitative missioning that allowed you to do 1-50 in an hour, with new players accidentally hitting 50 within a few hours without realizing it, to:
* Slightly exploitative farming that's not really all that fast but is really safe, which is more suited to solo play because you only face one enemy at a time, and almost nobody was doing it and if they were they were doing it by themselves.
Henchman farm absolutely did not overtake the game. It was not ruining lives or destroying teams. It was an exploit and needed to be removed yes, but I don't buy "I couldn't find teams so I HAD to exploit!" -
Well i17 is supposed to go live in April. So even if that means April 30th, that's still a short beta period. Even if half of that is closed beta, we'll be playing i17 on test within a couple weeks.

I like the animations, but I also wouldn't mind some more realistic and casual ones so I could make, say, a cowgirl.

Isn't that everything Hollywood touches? They take a story like Sherlock Holmes, X-Men, Street Fighter, etc, and make filth out of it. They don't stick to the original characters or story and it becomes something so far removed that it could have been its own movie, but instead they hot-glued a name of something else onto it to draw people in.

You make it sound like CoH2 would just be the ultimate solution to everything, when in reality it can mean the death of itself (countless wasted manhours and money spent on the new game) or even of both games.

Without breaking the NDA, tell me things you could only know if you were using the test server with protected information. *nodnod*

Quote:Ostriches aren't the fastest. What about chocobos?!The ostrich would disagree with you, being the fastest two-legged animal on land. Even humans when sprinting tend to run on their toes or balls of their feet. There's generally not of heel-to-ground contact during a full out sprint.
Also what's the fastest two-legged animal on water? -

Completely opinion-based statement which is backed by statistics and charts which somehow prove that an opinion is a fact and that anyone who disagrees is an idiot.

It also doesn't help people like me who have two toons in a main VG, one in a personal VG, two in friend VGs, and several others VGless. I can't simply pull all of my toons out of their groups just so I can trade with myself. And I still wouldn't be able to trade money.

Double exp hasn't started, so my guess would be sometime between now and then. Probably tomorrow.

Quote:That would give a clear advantage to those using vanguard weapons, which would open up a can of worms and make costume parts no longer just for show. Devs don't want that.I just think it's odd for Energy Blades and Claws etc. to purely do just Lethal Damage. That's the only reason I bring this up.
Devs were also opposed to giving us weapons that appeared to be non-lethal to begin with. Like a fire sword. This is probably the reason; the next logical step is to want the swords to do that element, which starts balance concerns.
I'd rather my swords be for show and not have to pick certain ones because they're superior to other options. -
What WOULD be cool would be if you could buy an IO with vanguard merits that adds energy damage (with standard values) to a power and is slottable in any standard attack. It wouldn't have to be part of any set.

I noticed symbolism in our background image!
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/style...background.jpg
Our lead dev used to be Statesman. Front and center, large, and powerful.
Then Positron took over. Small, quiet, distant.
Now our lead dev is War Witch who isn't even in the image!
This is obviously symbolism meant to imply the fading interest in the game and the loss of interest by the devs. This is a message by the devs themselves that they no longer care about the game! The game will be shut down within the year, and this is PROOF! DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! -
WP is more passive, Regen is more active. That's about it. Depends on what you like.
