  2. Or any MMO for that matter.

Cracked put together a nice list and gave examples and explanations on why we get addicted to video games, especially MMOs. If you don't know, Cracked is a comedy site but it also (usually) deals in facts. So in case you're interested in learning what makes you like CoH, here's a list of ways video games are keeping you addicted.

Just try and count how many of them apply to CoH. Purples? Badges? Recipe drops? Task Forces? Our amazing costume system? You bet they're all in there! Read and find out how Jack, Posi, and now the Witch are ensnaring us... forever!

  4. Worst power ever is Invoke Panic. Check the thread. It's so bad that people forgot to include it. It's so bad that people always forget to include it when this type of thread comes up. I'm sure someone will post saying they have and use the power and swear by it, but when was the last time you talked to someone who was considering the power? You know a friend who was playing Gravity and asked about Dimension Shift, or wanted to know if Temperature Protection was worth taking, but when's the last time someone asked you about Invoke Panic?

Let's go over the attributes of the power:
    * Fear, meaning easy to break, hard to stack.
    * Duration is 13s on Controllers, and far less on all other ATs.
    * Recharge is 60s. 1/2 recharge and 2x duration = downtime!
    * PBAoE power, radius of 15ft. Most AoE mezzes are 25-30ft.
    * Secondary effects: None! No -ToHit, no damage, no anything.
    * Accuracy: -20%.
    * Endurance: 22.8. Over 1/5, almost 1/4 your end for this power!
    * Mag: 2. Meaning even if you did use it, you'd only mez minions.
    * Misc: Requires you to take two other equally useless powers from a pool.

    Worst. Power. EVER.

I don't know why you're going to use Granite. There are easier ways to achieve stupidly high levels of mitigation without flooring your damage and recharge. Instead you could run with some of the WP powers, and pick even more powerful ones inbetween. Like instead of IW (I don't know why you have IW if you have Granite anyway -- you even have Active Defense too; how much mez protect do you need?), take Integration. It doesn't give fear/confuse, but you get huge regen to go with it. Take something like Force Field Generator to get 16% DEF vs all for almost no endurance.

Anyway, you have all that mitigation and stuff but your actual damage output is really low. You just have minor to moderate damage attacks. You should look into extreme damage, short activation moves like Seismic Smash. Plus you'd waste time using powers like Active Defense and Siphon Speed all the time.

Yeah, I have a couple brutes who can solo on +2/x8, and can hit the aggro cap. They don't need to be any more durable than that, because no more enemies than that will ever attack them. If my Brutes can hit aggro cap at +2/x8, and does more damage than a Tanker, why would I want to play a Tanker?

I have enough toons already, and I know people who are already maxed out so wouldn't get anything. I'd honestly rather a costume slot.

I just showed this to a friend who got a kick out of it. He totally has a Tanker named LastSon.
  9. Oh and for the record, my only real complaint now would be you get nothing at 50. Where's my new costume slot for 50?!

Fire, Energy, and Rad have one secondary effect. Dual Pistols has DEF and KB even without Swap Ammo. You take Swap Ammo to have access to FOUR (five or six depending on how you count lethal and cryo) secondary effects. Just like you take Aim to have more damage/accuracy. You still have a secondary effect without Swap Ammo. Wanting Swap Ammo free makes about as much sense to me as wanting Aim to be an inherent.
  12. I "worked hard" to get a 50 hero and a 50 villain so I could make Peacebringers (sucked), Warshades (sucked but not as much), Soldiers (decent), and Widows (one of my best toons). I still think the decision is a good one. Granted I probably would've done 30 or 35 just because 20 comes so fast, but I still agree with the decision.

The EATs are all solid ATs that people put a lot of time into. They could use some tweaks here and there (HEATs especially), but there are a lot of people missing out on these ATs as an option. I myself have about 7 level 50s, but it still took me about 2.5 years to get my first one. The reason they gave for lowering the level is that there are long-time vets who still don't have a 50.

The point is, stuff gets put into the game for people to experience it. And not enough people are experiencing EATs. The devs have said they regretted the level 50 thing for a long time. And level 50 for our game has never been a goal or an ending point that normal players should reach. With all the people telling everyone on the forums that it's the journey and not the destination, and not to rush to 50, why do we have ATs that you can't play until then? It's a contradiction.

<-- In favor of earlier access EATs

I'm an altoholic, and I simply don't have the time or energy to purple out even one toon, much less the 26 I have on Virtue alone (with more on Freedom).

No it's not. You don't come out of the gate doing combos. You don't do combos regardless of what powers you take or use. You have to have at least three powers to do combos, and use them in order. You can't do your first combo until 6, same as Swap Ammo. In fact, doing combos affects your power choice order, your power selection process, and your power usage order. It affects your DPS and your normal attack behavior. I think it does a lot more and requires a lot more than Swap Ammo.

Put Aim back in its place. Every other blaster set has Aim, regardless of the special set-defining powers the set has.
Assault Rifle doesn't. I don't know if that's a shining example of a good set, but it gets along without it. Also note, Psi Blast didn't have Aim, but it was fundamentally changed to have it, and even with Aim it's a crappy set.

Melee sets don't all have Build Up. They have Follow Up/Blinding Feint, Soul Drain, even Rage. I embrace the variance in these sets and all along was hoping that DP would have something different than a generic plastered Aim into the set, because ranged sets have ZERO variance. Either they have Aim or they don't (Dark Blast and Psi Blast for non-Blasters have no Aim). I was hoping for a ranged Follow Up. But I think the ability to give yourself a constant damage boost through fire damage is a very unique and viable alternative to Aim.

    New Mids' Update

Nice stuff. Let nobody say Stony isn't on the ball with Mids updates.
  16. In closed beta I did a poll to see what ammo types people used. In order, with enough of a spread to indicate that they are indeed desired in various amounts, this was the order:

    1) Chemical Ammo (-DMG)
    2) Incendiary Ammo (+DoT)
    3) Lethal Ammo (+KB)*
    4) Cryo Ammo (-spd/rech)

    * = The poll was done before lethal gave any -DEF.

There were only about two people in the thread who skipped Swap Ammo. The secondary effects are noticeable, and useful for different situations.
  17. I don't make Defenders. I did a DP/Dark Corr and a DP/MM Blaster. Normally I hate redraw, but it hasn't bothered me at all. I like both toons.

Maybe people aren't rushing back for that, but what about easier access to EATs, Ultra Mode, the AE updates, the new mail system, or animated tails?

Usually you'll find our community is pretty friendly until someone starts acting out. It's only when someone comes in and says "THIS GAME SUCKS" that someone tells them to get out. Take this thread for example:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=212253

Someone who doesn't play very often asked a question. We had a few "Huhs?" but overall mostly people giving ideas and theories on why they'd do double exp now instead of after i17. It wasn't until someone came in and called everyone "delusional fanboys" that people started saying "If you don't enjoy the game, just leave."

And I tend to agree. If it's not fun, don't torture yourself, and don't drag others down with you. There's a difference between feedback and suggestions and "THIS GAME SUCKS, YOU'RE ALL DUMB FOR PLAYING."

UI update could potentially be pretty awesome.

  24. Honestly I think that due to the short beta period (only 1 month or so) of i17 there may be some crashes and bugs that hit even after the thing goes live. That would be a bad thing to have happen during double exp.
