  4. Got this email today. Firefox was smart enough to report it as a phishing site, even though it was obvious from the formatting and the fake URL it gave. Not to mention the sloppy spacing. Still, for those of you NOT using Firefox make sure to always be careful with your account information.

Usually any phishing attempts I get are for WoW (which I don't even play), so I guess someone must be pulling email addresses from the forums or something.

  6. Finally got my graphics looking better on test. With today's patch I did some fiddling with the outfit I came up with before.

I'm not sure about the chest skull, but it's the only thing I could find that fit. Kinda wish there was a chest piece, yanno?
  7. "Mutant doesn't mean animal parts!" argument is just as annoying as the one they're arguing against.

OBVIOUSLY not all mutants have animal parts. I don't think anyone here is saying that ALL mutants have animal parts. So please stop with the "mutant != animal!"

What people ARE saying, is that we've been expecting animal parts for a long time, had two chances (science and mutant packs) for them to be introduced, and were even told by Posi that animal parts are the sort of thing that would be in the mutant pack. No, not ALL mutants have animal parts. But some do. And we've been waiting for them. And this was the best time to deliver. And they didn't.

You know what else you could apply that argument to? Not all naturals are ninjas. But the Martial Arts pack picked a theme (ninjas and martial arts) and went with it. Not all techs are cyborgs. Not all science-origins are mad scientists. You can't represent the entire spectrum of an origin with a simple costume pack. But what they could have done, and should have done (in some opinions) is given the players what they've been waiting for, asking for, and expecting. They didn't. Hence the "where's the animal parts?"

No, not all mutants are animals. Yes, the pieces we got are technically "mutant." Yes, they're fine parts. No, they weren't what a lot of people were expecting or asking for, and that's why there's an issue.

It's not just the tail itself, it's the story behind the tail, and the way devs handle these things.

CoV added some animal parts. We got wolf heads and legs and the monstrous arms. But none have really been added since then. People have been waiting patiently for devs to add some more animal parts for YEARS now. If you look around we have A METRIC TON of cyborg and tech parts (seriously you could build a bridge to the moon with all of them), but very little in the way of non-human animal types.

Devs had two chances to include animal parts and missed the mark both times. Lots of us were expecting animal parts for the science pack. You know, Jeckyll and Hyde sort of thing or the Hulk where you turn into a beast and have crazy stuff. Instead we got lab coats. We expected animal parts for the mutant pack. Positron even made a comment that animal parts sound like things that would be in the mutant pack. Instead we got glow in the dark zebras. The opportunity came up twice, and the devs missed it both times.

Now don't get me wrong, these are nice parts, and so were the ones in the science pack. However, they weren't what most people were expecting or wanting. It caused a divide between player and developers where we were all feeling very ignored because what we wanted wasn't what we were getting. It's going to a burger joint and asking for a burger, but they bring you a taco. A taco is a fine meal but it's not what we wanted. The point of communication breakdown is what we were not liking.

The addition of the tail shows that the devs are saying "Okay guys, sorry -- we ARE listening and we DO care." As I mentioned I've bought packs in the past that I don't even want, just to support CoH. This one was the first time I didn't feel like doing that. The change to add the tail due to player concern changed my mind on that stance.

A few people mentioned it. I tend to agree, but as someone who buys all the packs I don't mind. However, other players might (and probably do). It would be better added to the game in general, since it doesn't really fit with the mutant pack's other contents.

David (and Jay) generally work with costumes. While it's possible that they're in touch with what's going over in BABs country, if David is teasing us about animation it's probably about costumes.

He may be talking about new animations for powers, but if I was to guess I would say things like more tails, wings, maybe some other animated pieces, maybe even hair. 100% baseless speculation though.

Jay did all the heavy lifting here, so let's give credit where credit's due. We're definitely taking stock of fan requests and trying to put as much of it as possible into the pipeline. On a completely unrelated note, wait 'til you see what's cookin' in animation...
I'm looking forward to any animation stuff you guys come up with. Also waiting for more animal parts (one of the last unexplored frontiers in my collection of toons). And one thing I want is more casual/formal wear like earrings, necklaces, some nice shoes.

Also, hi! Tell us more! We like vocal devs.
  12. Looks nice, and appears to be two-tone, so should work for fox and kitsune types.

I appreciate you guys responding to player concerns on this. I realize it's only one tail but after the multi-page argument and fussing over the content of the pack it's nice to see you guys listening to player feedback and doing something about it. I won't lie; I was pretty irritated and considering not buying this pack at all. I've bought a couple packs in the past that I don't even used based on "supporting CoH" principle, and this was going to be the first one I didn't buy, out of protest.

But it looks like you guys are giving it an honest go. I'll be buying this pack now, partially for that tail and partially because you guys are trying to do what your customers want.

I would like to hear more about this "different set" and what that might entail.

Thanks a bunch, David and Jay.
  13. Well after some pouting I went back and decided to see what I could do with the set and try to make the best of it. I grabbed a char concept I've been sitting on and refreshed it using some of the new pieces. Here's what I came up with, trying a few different things. Sorry for the quality, it's degraded more than usual on test.

Since I don't have UM and stuff to test, does pure black on the luminescent set still glow or am I safe to use it like this?

  15. I wouldn't mind say a 5% RES for one, 2.5% DEF for one, something like that. I just don't like +DEF (positional only) for one of the buffs and +DEF (typed only) for another.

I noticed these buffs apply AT modifiers unlike the tarot.

So is the only thing missing from this pack the tails? It's just those two sets after all? No shark heads or stegosaurus tails or bird wings?

I don't either, but it's not a lack of desire but a lack of an ability.

I've tried making mutant and animal characters. Tried making a shark, a werewolf, a dragon, and some other things. Recently I made a half-decent stegosaurus type character using the slate spines, but a good tail to go with it would help a lot. Or spikes I could have all the time.

When I try to make animal characters in this game they don't feel right. I don't look or feel like the Council werewolves I run up against. I don't look like a dragon. The characters still have the same basic shape and the same stature and mannerisms. I still move like a person, and my appearance doesn't vary enough to make it convincing.

Some new animal heads, more shoulder and chest details, new tails, monstrous legs. All those would help that problem. These new parts don't open up any new concepts or abilities for me.
  19. ^^ Pretty much agreeing with Sam up there. Really disappointed in all the opportunities the devs had with this pack that they seem to have completely passed up. Monstrous legs have been sitting for a long time, as have new heads. Tails seemed like a shoo-in given we just got new tail tech. Seems an awful waste to put the effort into creating new tail tech and then just forget about it. When we got costume change emotes and wings they started popping out with every update.

Still, the OP leaves me hopeful. Maybe there really is more. The stuff we got is extremely limited in quantity. As Sam pointed out there aren't even any belts, tails, pants, skirts, chest options, ears, hair, detail 2... way too much is missing for this to feel like a complete pack. Since the OP mentions heads, armor, and tails, I can only hope this means we haven't seen everything yet.

If a redname could pop in and say "There ARE/ARE NOT more costumes than this on the way," it would really clear up a lot for us.

You sure? One of my characters has over 30 outfits. I have 5 versions of her just to avoid tailor fees. I also have every costume pack.

Yeah, notes said new heads, new armor, new tails. Didn't see any of those. So really hoping this means there's more to come.

Was going to drop in and complain that Acuse Sense is positional only, but seems there's another one up there that's typed. Although I disagree with that, since there's a chance you'll get something that doesn't help you at all, I guess it's not that big a deal. I'd still like to recommend it be changed. At least if you got +15% movement that would be more useful than an Invuln getting +positional. Really should have Acute Senses be +DEF (all) and make Tough Hide offer RES or something else.

Beyond that, Acuse Senses gives 3.3% ACC... that's really weak. Hermit gives +15% ACC along with a lot more perception and a lot more DEF. Even if these are supposed to be weaker since they're personal, 3.3% ACC is patheeeetic. If it was 3% ToHit that might be okay. Or 5-10% ACC, but 3% ACC is meh.

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree here. I mean, after snipping out the more aggressive tone.

Is two costume sets all we get? I was expecting way more. Besides the fact that these don't even seem mutant-like to me (seems all like armor and metal or Witchblade), it's a very small sampling. And not at all what I was expecting or will probably be using.

Everyone was expecting new animal tails and heads. Fox tails, stegosaurus tails, shark heads. This is one area where CO has us really beat. They have all kinds of animal parts down to bird feather tails and fins. Why did we implement this tech for awesome new animated tails and then not use it? People have been wanting more animal heads since CoV introduced the couple we have. What gives?

If there's more to come I retract my statement. But if we aren't getting anything like this, I'm extremely disappointed. Been looking forward to mutant pack forever. Now I don't even want it. I'll probably have to get it just for the power, but as it stands it seems like this will be the second most disappointing, after Science (which I only got for supertailor).

HOPEFULLY this isn't all there is, since the OP mentions new "heads and tails" but I see neither. Maybe this stuff needed testing but the other stuff is still a secret. I really hope.
  23. Umm. My characters on the char select screen are ghosts now.

EDIT: Still no relief for invisible mouse or blank contact/costumes. Or the INTENSE FPS drop since i17 hit even with my settings lower than they used to be (no UM).

You also said that no team anywhere needs a Defender ever, and you'd be happy to run an STF with no support whatsoever. To that I point up to the above paragraph about "not everyone."

So a Defender who stands at the entrance and picks his nose in every mission still wouldn't be underperforming to you. Because it's impossible to underperform "not even necessary or needed at all in the first place." You're saying TA doesn't underperform, while at the same time saying nobody needs Defenders anyway. So their performance level is completely irrelevant in your argument. If you already play at a level where no degree of support whatsoever is EVER necessary, then the amount of support given by ANY character is completely irrelevant.

You saying it doesn't underperform means nothing, since your expected performance level is already zero. Unless the Defender ran around aggroing enemies while running Group Fly or something, no player according to you could ever underperform.

This is basically the most ridiculous argument I've ever heard. Just saying.

TA is fine because nobody really NEEDS a Defender so may as well fill the slot with a worthless and underpowered toon rather than one that's fifty times more useful.
