  1. PBs and WSes can have 85% RES to basically all damage in dwarf form, along with a heal or two. If you're comparing to a less than optimal defensive Tanker like Fire or Elec who also mostly just has RES, and the team's buffs are less than compelling, it's definitely possible for a kheld to survive more. In general though I'd expect the Tanker to be more durable.

    Jet Packs FTW!

Backpacks and sheaths/scabbards would help out and do a lot for the natural crowd. The last seventy jillion* costume pieces have all been tech in theme. I was pretty disappointed that my regular natural characters pretty much couldn't wear a single costume part that came with GR.

Also don't think we didn't notice Maelstrom's pistol holsters are combat animated to disappear when he pulls them out.

  4. Fly is a good place to toss it now, since Fly's speed is so high it caps itself without slotting.

I don't know if it was DP or traps on that character but wow was it sucky. I'm in the process of making a DP/? blaster now. Probably EM.
I soloed the incarnate intro arc with SOs on my DP Corr so my mileage has definitely varied.
  8. So I rerolled my DS toon as Pain instead of Thermal and noticed something upon hitting 12. I'm getting more from Ember Shield than I did in the past.

To recap people on how Ember works, it's an auto power the level 12 demon has that gives everything ally in range a RES buff. Players and other pets get +5% RES to S/L (and misc to other stats but I'll keep it simple). Your own demons get +10%. The Ember Demon himself doesn't get anything from the buff. The +5% includes the MM him/herself, meaning you get a piddly 5% RES buff from your demon. During beta for DS testing I suggested that the owner (and only the owner) gets the +10% version, just so it's a little more meaningful (bots give the owner 7.5% DEF after all).

I am right now getting 15% from my Ember Demon.

I have both a buff called Ember Shield, delivering the 5%, and Ember Shield Owner, giving 10%, for a total of 15%. ONLY I am getting this. I've checked other stats. My own demons get 10%, other players get 5%, and the Ember Demon himself gets nothing. I am however getting both buffs for 15%. I've dismissed, resummoned, relogged, and rezoned, and I always get 15%.

Is this a buff, or a bug?
  9. The best way to "farm purples" is -1/x8, although I recommend you do +0/x8 instead because if you get any non-purple drops that are worth getting on -1, they're heavily devalued.

    What?
Don't pay too much attention to GG. Her viewpoint on things is strictly black and white. Once Defenders/Controllers get Pain Domination there will be a convenient reason/excuse why heroes can have it and it's not evil. Until then, yeah it's totally so darn evil.

Definitely. I started off with just doing Musculature and Spiritual for most of my toons. But looking at Cardiac for a few now.

    There was no other choice.
Doing Cardiac on my Huntsman. For one she's going to be running a ton of toggles, and has a lot of AoEs, so she'll need the help (at 34 she's already sucking wind pretty badly). But it will also up her RES values and increase her range, which will be nice.

    Musculature:
My widow. She's already soft-capped, has perfect end control even with all her toggles, has nearly 90% global recharge with a full attack chain and perma ML, and tons of accuracy and ToHit already. So she doesn't need anything else. As a result, just going more damage. With her global damage bonuses, double Assault, and a very rare she'll be doing +92% damage all the time. On top of having procs in her attacks.

    Spiritual:
Most of my toons are doing this. Blaster, Brute, two Scrappers, Necro/Dark, DP/Dark. All these chars have decent global recharge, but the recharge bonus adds more to all their powers, especially some more underslotted ones. They also get heal and regen bonuses (big perk for the Necro and Brute).

    Cardiac:
As mentioned above, Huntsman. But my Dom is also doing this tree. She has most everything else she needs, but since making her permadom she uses a ton of endurance even inbetween refills. She has a lot of location AoEs and rains, which are 26-32 end each. I went the range branch, which is great for her cone powers (especially Seeds of Confusion). And later on she'll get some bonus RES.

    Nerve:
I really can't think of any characters I'd do this tree with.

Right, but that's my point. If you made a Troll character who got their powers from doing drugs, CoH would send you to work with a scientist in a lab coat. It's a bit of disconnect to me. "My character does drugs they got on the street" and "my character got their powers in a lab while experimenting with chemicals" are pretty far apart.

Outside of the first arc you can do blueside, is there anything else based on origin? Out of curiosity.

The game is pretty flip-floppy about origins anyway. For instance, it treats Science like The Flash -- "You received your powers either through purposeful scientific inquiry or some accident gone awry." Even though the game has a perfectly good example of a science origin gang that didn't result from exploding lab experiments: Trolls gain their powers from drugs (although I half expect someone to tell me Trolls are natural now).

Opinions can't be wrong; that's why they're opinions. And origins are opinion-based. If I asked two people what an AR/Dev should be, they'd give me different answers. Same as we're giving different answers for Superman and the TMNT.

My line of reasoning is that it's impossible for Kryptonians to have superpowers without the interference of a yellow sun (an outside force that has nothing to do with the person who ends up gaining the powers). Your line of reasoning is that since ALL Kryptonians would go through the same change given the same circumstances, that makes it "natural." I see your viewpoint; it makes sense; but I don't personally agree. That doesn't mean my opinion is wrong. No more than yours, anyway.

If you want, you can consider Superman a combination of both Kryptonian DNA (natural) and yellow sun radiation exposure (science), making him both natural AND science, and once again leaving it open to the interpretation of which one of the two they pick in the character editor.

But that's off-topic. Was just trying to prove a point. I'll avoid derailing concerning origins now.

Kryptonians only have powers when exposed to cosmic rays from a yellow sun. On their home planet under normal conditions they have no special abilities. Parallel: All humans gain super strength and invulnerability when exposed to the radioactive gas of the planet Spectron 9. Therefore, it's natural for humans to have superhuman strength (that makes sense right?). Sounds sciency to me.

Like I said, feel free to start a thread, though it's already been discussed excruciatingly. There won't be any single resolution. Fact is there's no guide or right answer to origin. It's all up to the player's interpretation. Even if the creator had something else in mind, it's the player's interpretation that matters, because it's their character and ultimately it doesn't matter anyway. There's no penalty for getting an origin "wrong," and in a lot of cases your character could be more than one origin (AR/Devices can be natural AND tech), but the game only allows for one.

In the game they'd be science, mutant, natural, or even tech if the player wanted. There's no strict rule on origins. Batman is a regular guy but he uses tons of gadgets; both natural and tech fly depending on your viewpoint. And start a thread asking what origin Superman is and that'll go on for 20 pages.

I do that sometimes. If I'm in a zone like Atlas and people are doing a sewers team or something, or a low-level mission team, I'll offer to join, and end up being on their team with a level 50 widow to help out. Usually it's good as a comedy factor, but it's nice to help out too.
  18. I'm curious about a few of the numbers, especially alignment. Does that count all characters? Only people that bought GR? Only people who actively participated in the tip system? It's weird to me that more than half of the characters would be pure hero alignment. I can only imagine it's that way because pure heroes existed for way longer and some people aren't fiddling with those characters. And I feel like I've seen far more rogues and vigilantes than the site says, which leads me to believe most of those pure heroes are rotting in a char select somewhere.

I like how loyalist/resistance are so finely balanced. That means someone did a good job.

I'd also like to see the full list of ATs made and switched. Devs probably don't want to show what's trailing in popularity though. But I'd like to see where some of the ATs end up. Not surprising the villain ATs, Blasters, and Scrappers are popular though.

The new warehouse room kills me.
  21. This room drops my FPS to about 3. I have to face away from the room when I enter and fight.

I don't think there's any "fixing" it. It just has a completely absurd number of surfaces and objects that it has to draw. There are giant racks of hundreds of items all over the place.

I just wish they'd remove it from random rotation and stick it to the stuff they added it for. If I run into that room in a predictable fashion (such as during the new coralax arc) that's one thing. Running into it during a newspaper or tip however is not fun.

Honestly I think the entire competition is silly. You guys are comparing sets with sleeps and non-aggro powers. The winner is just going to be the most patient person. Doesn't matter which set you're using.

But it's about time Freaks had a unit people cared about. I enjoy singling them out on my Scrapper and taking them out.

I simply can't see either of those happening. Certainly not new body sliders, the on all 4s run animation, maybe as a walk type thing, an alternate movement mode for movement only and no powers, but even that I think seems questionable as to how realistic a request that is.
In theory a new beast run would be no more work than Ninja Run, although 1) I really don't know how much work Ninja Run was, 2) Ninja Run doesn't come without its own set of problems, and 3) you'd always stand up and animate normally when actually fighting
