  1. I find the in-game censor to be highly entertaining. It censors very strange things, some of which aren't even close to offensive to anyone I can think of, while totally ignoring even more common synonyms.
  2. The only type of travel power I can think of we don't have would be swinging of some sort. But that would probably be too similar to Spiderman.

Pretty easy to swim there too. Have had level 1s show up to some of my CCs.

Over the weekend, my friend and I played our MMs we haven't played in a while (since he resubbed). After leveling some we had to fight some Malta for our patron arc. Weren't too happy when one of the missions had a boss Gunslinger and a sapper right at the door that would attack as soon as we zoned. It took us several deaths and a bunch of purples to clear them out. We'd zone in all purpled, start summoning pets and try to buff them while getting zapped of end, and watch them all die to the massive AoEs of the Gunslinger.

When I saw this message, the first thing I said was "THANK GOD!"

Speaking of VEATs, I keep wondering why HEATs suck so much. I did a buff/stat comparison side-by-side and VEATs are pretty much superior to khelds in everything. My widow's BU is +80% damage, while my PB only gets +72% for some reason. My widow buffs more from powers like Maneuvers, and gets more out of powers like CJ. She has mez protection, and my PB doesn't unless she turns into a mutant rhino. Think it would go a long way into making khelds more playable if the little stats like those were adjusted, and they actually had mez protection in human form..
  6. Interesting note, the difference is even more than you think. The powers are balanced individually based on the sets they're in, but also the AT they're on. Scrapper melee scale is 1.125 and Blaster is 1.00. If a Scrapper had Total Focus, it would do an additional 12.5% damage, doing over 220 total. Energy Transfer would do over 280.

But Blasters are all about damage and they have a ton of attacks that do high damage. So it's normal for attacks to outdamage Scrappers. Even if individual attacks don't, they have more AoEs, more attacks in general, the ability to attack at range, and nukes and other special powers. Blasters are supposed to do more damage, since that's all they do.

Welcome to the game then! Hopefully you'll stick around for a long time!

    1) The difference in the boxes is really just the little perks that come with them. If you buy any version of the game, you get both CoH and CoV. So just read up on the bonuses that you get and pick based on that. You can always buy serial codes later and upgrade your account to get all the perks. If you buy a box set after you already have the full game, you can get free time. I'd recommend the GvE edition just for the perks.

    2) None of them are essential. The bonus packs are just bonuses. You can get as many or as few as you like. Personally I think the Magic Pack is the best one for your money. The Cyborg and Science don't offer very many perks or costume parts (those they do offer are kind of limited in use). Science does have the supertailor, so I bought it for that. Wedding isn't that bad for female toons; it goes well with the Magic Pack. Valkyrie/Mac Pack is a good one too.
  8. I'm not too keen on the reputation idea. Doesn't do anything, and if it did I'd be pretty vocal about it. Since it doesn't do anything, I just play with it. That and the tags. Going to see how long I can go adding ridiculous tags to everything before I get scolded by a mod.

Anyway, I don't give negative reputation. I just give positive reputation to posts that make me laugh. I think everyone needs a good sense of humor.

I don't know, there are some things they could do to lessen the attraction of it. Partly the draw is it's the only place you can just fight giant hordes of lieutenants or bosses. One possible solution would be to make the enemy-placement code take the ranks into consideration and be more reasonable with the placement. For instance, there ARE some gangs in the game that spawn boss-only gangs for large teams (Hellions) but at max they only spawn 3 bosses.

If the code was redone so a "boss only" gang could only spawn a max of 3 bosses per mob, people would start slowly trickling out of AE in favor of other activities, perhaps even traditional farms or even... normal missions? We'd never get rid of every farmer, but it would be a start if we could just lessen the fact that you can get approximately 70 trillion times more experience doing a boss farm than any other possible content.

This would have basically zero impact on legitimate teams, except for missions where people want to have "OMG HARD" spawns of all bosses.

More recent example, over the exp weekend I was trying to level one of my older characters I haven't played in forever because my friend had resubbed. So we both get our Thugs/Trap/Mace MMs and start forming a team. We get a few extras, including another MM, a kin corruptor, and a couple Brutes. I see a broadcast by a high level Stone Brute and figure that'd be a great addition. I invite him, and he immediately says "Sorry, no MMs" and leaves team.

I shrug, invite someone else, and we go on to totally decimate all the enemies without effort because of all the buffs/debuffs, pets, and explosives. Whoever he was, he missed out. We also didn't need him. But undoubtedly, had he come along, he would've thought himself the most important player.

Just figured it was worth noting that I've never seen anyone ((talk in OOC quotes)) on any other server, much less in local or broadcast. I've also never seen Pocket D populated by people who aren't just passing through on any other server. Virtue is different. It's not hard to notice it.

    These forums...

I feel like I'm behind a cloudy pane of glass trying to do stuff I'm used to on these forums.

How do I pull up a list of smilies? I'm a cold, emotionless person without them. I also can't be a jerk and still add a winky face to the end of a sentence to make it seem like I was kidding. Wink.

How do I easily get to a list of my posts? Before I could hit Member List, and I'd be at the very top, and I could just click myself and then view my posts. Here, I can't figure out how to get there at all. Do I have to subscribe to every thread I post in?

For that matter, how do I easily get to my own userpage to view things like messages left there? I can't seem to get there through the User CP and the easiest way I've found to get there is to click on my name in one of my posts. Which is harder to do when I can't view a listing of my posts.

How do I quote someone who quoted someone? Anytime I try to quote someone it just throws in their post without any previous quotes. If I click multiquote it just lights up waiting for something. Do I have to click every post and manually embed the quotes into eachother?

    Aaah, help!
  16. Sorry for all the cancellations lately. Just have had too many events to do it each weekend. We'll be back on this Sunday unless there's some other sort of event.

Brutes start out doing about the same damage as Tankers, but then it gets boosted by Fury so that overall they do more damage than Tankers. Brutes have no more endurance problems than Tankers and actually do more damage per endurance using Fury. Brutes tend to run out of endurance faster because they spend less time taunting and more time attacking. Brute damage drops whenever they aren't attacking so they have a very good reason to not stop or slow down unless forced to do so.
Tanks and Brutes don't have the same HP. Tanks have more than Brutes.

    Tank: 1874
    Brute: 1499

Also there isn't any set that they share that doesn't also have some sort of +RES, +regen, heal, or +HP along with DEF, so even if they're both DEF capped, not only does the Tank still have more HP, but he has more RES/regen/heal power.

Also, Tank damage scale is 0.80 and Brute is 0.75. Tanks start out slightly higher until Fury rolls in.

Eh, nothing has changed except the speed and ease of farming.

Farmers will always farm, but I think it's more the issue of how easy it is to farm now. Before you needed to know someone with a PI farm, meaning SOMEBODY had to earn it. And if you didn't know people, you probably weren't going to get on a random farm team. You had to worry about sidekicks and having enough people. You had to travel to PI and to the mission. You had to worry about resetting the mission. You had to fight regular spawns, max of level 52.

AE has vastly decreased the amount of effort required to make and play a farm. You can now form a farm in almost any zone, including Atlas Park, where travel is trivial even for a level 1. You can fight enemies that you know pose no threat to you, who do damage you highly resist. You can fight enemies who are weak to your type of attacks. You can tailor a group made up of bosses, up to level 54. You can not worry about sidekicks at all.

Compare farming that requires you to fight certain enemies, requires sidekicks, with lower exp overall in the highest level zone in the game to farming where you can fight any enemies you want, doesn't need sidekicks, and offers more exp (because you can do an all-boss farm if you want).

Farmers will always exist, and there will always be people who get powerleveled. AE is a tool that makes the task tremendously easy and with a way better risk/reward ratio. I don't think there was ever a case where some new player accidentally traveled to PI, got on a farm team without knowing any better, quickly hit 50, and didn't know how to play the game or do anything outside of a PI farm. But now with AE there's hundreds of them. Since AE it's been possible to "accidentally" hit 50. It's always sad to meet someone whose first impression of the game is zoning into the first area, joining some random team for a few hours, and then hitting max level.
  21. In general I would say if the name is already taken, it's time to look for a more unique name. "Dark Beast" may sound cool, but it's not very original. You wouldn't be breaking any rules or get kicked from teams or anything, but I usually find the people with symbols in their names to be kind of uncreative.
  22. Well with GR around the corner possibly sometime in November (for beta, based on the Loyalty rewards), I figured we need a thread to speculate on what the new sets might entail.

The trend for the recent additions has been toward new ideas. Thugs gave us pets with stacking buffs that benefit other pets of the same type. Dual Blades gave us the combo system. And Shields gave us Scrappers/Brutes who can buff teammates. I expect both Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning to offer something new to the game. As such, here are my thoughts on each set.

Demon Summoning will probably be a fire-based set. BABs said something about a fire whip, possibly jokingly, but if they intend to avoid the predictable/obvious Flares/Fire Blast/Fireball setup, a whip would be really incredibly cool. I believe the tech exists, or could be based on the Circle demons that flick tongues. As for what the pets could possibly do, I can't say I know what role they might fill. We already have roles for high damage dealing, high tanking, and mezzing. Damage would be the obvious choice, but they could still be a RES/heal based group who could be good at taking damage as well. Would be nice to have a buffing-style pet who throws around things like Forge.

Dual Pistols I think is their best chance to do something different. Some people speculate that it may be a ranged combo set. Personally I'm hoping that due to all the cries for Pistol Melee, they design it like a Scrapper set. By which I mean instead of the usual formula of 2 full range attacks, 1 half range attack, some AoEs and a nuke, they give it 4-5 single target attacks. Including possibly extreme or superior damage single target attacks. That way, while not actually a Scrapper set, it'd still play like a Scrapper in some ways. I'm also hoping for something new for Aim. I'd like to see a Follow-up style attack rather than just Aim, meaning a lower damage buff that can be used for a steady damage boost.

Begin baseless assumptions and wild ideas below:

Freedom was incredibly laggy, and people were mapserving left and right the whole weekend. I was also really counting on people coming out of AE and playing this weekend as well, but since AE was giving 2xp too, everyone was just farming more than ever. Usually, I'm very psyched about 2xp weekends, but this one just didn't feel the same.
I'm pretty sure they updated the servers. Or something weird is going on with the server population readout. I think even last double exp weekend it never showed red. Anyway, it was definitely highly populated. If you only went by the population readout, that wasn't very accurate.

I had trouble logging in all weekend and it was slow to connect to the game each time I did log in. Two separate occasions I got repeated disconnects and took more than fiteen minutes to connect. There were 2 Caps and 2 Grandvilles all weekend. I suffered a ton of mapservers. None of that would happen on medium load, because Virtue is always on medium load. The server was strained.
  25. I only have one purple piece on one character. I've really only built up one character to the point where they can only improve with purples, and even on that character I'd rather build for +DMG. The one purple she has is a proc.
