I would do DP/Devices if I didn't just totally hate Devices.
I'm leaning toward DP/Traps Corruptor. True I'll have to drop some traps in battle, but after the first couple I can focus on pistols. The rest of the powers are things I can do at my leisure outside of combat. Traps is one of the only sets I have more than 90 levels of experience with. Only downside there is the prep time can be kinda long depending, and if a team is steamrolling I don't have as much time or even need to lay down traps. Though in theory in a situation like that, I can just come out with guns blazing.
Current plan is to do DP/Traps Corr with a DP/Devices Blaster buddy in a duo. We may be picking up a third, who is still deciding between the two. 2x DP/Traps Corrs would provide a lot of defense and debuffs, and everyone would be doing nice damage. Though all of this hinges somewhat on what DP actually does. It may do something really compelling that causes me to roll DP/Devices. -
It's not moot. From what we've been told, it seems it'll be very possible to permanently move a Brute over to blueside long before getting to 40. Would he then have no epics available at all?

MMs too. MMs also share RES/DEF debuff values. But they have a weaker DMG/ToHit debuff value. Not totally sure of the logic there, but that's how it is. So any powers that do -speed, -recharge, -DEF, or -RES should be the same for MMs. Otherwise, it's just reducing the overall ability of TA for MMs only.

Quote:Something being a non-impacting game with no real point or goal should be removed? You can't win or lose. All it's for is entertainment. What you get out of it is up to you. There are no consequences for having low rep. No rewards for having high rep. It does nothing. As if we needed another reason why the Rep system should be removed.
CoH doesn't contribute anything meaningful to the world outside of entertainment. Good reason to get rid of it, eh? -
Was it ever not a joke? I mean, it's never done anything and never held any weight. It's not like it used to be something important but suddenly, because of abuse, it's now a big joke. I don't think anyone's mourning the rep days of old before it got nerfed.
I've been trying to earn mine "legitimately," but in the end it's pretty much all just irrelevant. -
Most "hard" enemies I don't find hard or challenging. Just annoying. It's not exactly "challenging" to have to put up with -40% ToHit or -50% max endurance or floored move speed or enemies that ignore stealth. Most of that just makes things take way longer and it becomes frustrating. I don't think something is "challenging" if there's basically no way to cope with it. And things like floored speed, I don't see how that could ever be considered anything but annoying. What's challenging about walking slow? Unless you're trying to escape and die as a result. But again, there's no way to cope with it, so it's not a challenge so much as a situation you ultimately just deal with.

Yeah, no idea how that happened, except that the forum crashed and burned while I was making the post. I know better than to go back and resubmit, so I just navigated to my CP once it seemed to respond again. It's possible the forum hiccup did it, or maybe I really submitted it twice without realizing.

You must carry a lot of yellows. Five of them would give you +37.5% which would ALMOST recover you from one grenade. You'd need more if you were fighting +1s or +2s.

For the record, I use ESDF rather than WASD, because I'm morally opposed to taking my fingers off the home keys. That and I can't exactly see what advantage there's supposed to be to moving my hand farther to the edge of the keyboard, where there are less keys to press.

When the Equalizers and Ghosts show up in mayhems, that's when I stop doing mayhems.
That DEF debuff isn't just murder on DEF players, it's murder on everyone. Plus it comes coupled with a -40% ToHit debuff, which is basically the dumbest thing ever. At least until you learn it lasts for 60 seconds. THAT is the dumbest thing ever. That's on top of the glue patch + Web Grenade and Acid Mortars debuffing you to oblivion.
Outside of that, the only time my characters feel so overwhelmed is high level Longbow, who autohit debuff RES to severe negatives, cut away at DEF, floor regen, and pin you down with -RECH and -speed. Those are basically all of the possible self-defense stats that someone can have (heals being affected by the -RECH), so once all those are cut down, you just die.
I agree that a one-minute -40% DEF debuff is just ridiculous. But I also think Vanguard Curses, Carnie Masks, and Malta Sappers are just as bad. I'm not sure why the devs took the approach they did with "hard" gangs, but it seems like the only way to present a challenge is to introduce something that's so absurd that a SINGLE POWER can make even a rugged character topple like a house of cards. The powers tend to be so ludicrous that people avoid the gangs entirely, if at all possible. -
The proc works out to about 12% increase in endurance gain, if I recall correctly. That doesn't take into account bonus endurance through accolades and IOs though.
Since the bonus for PP is 12.5% by itself, you'd nearly double the amount of end it gives back by putting the proc in there. If you throw a Numina unique in it too, you could nearly triple the bonus PP gives with just two slots. Or better yet, Miracle. -
I got negative rep for "whining and derailing" a thread when I said one joking sentence, to which the person I was speaking to responded merrily and then moved on.
*gives +rep to the OP and DB* -
Quote:For me and the people I know at least, I think people will be pulling back from the "pure" ATs and focusing more on hybrid ones. We've already seen from the AT analysis that Tanks and Defenders are pretty unpopular ATs. They fulfill specific roles which redside has shown aren't that needed.I'm pretty sure my Ice/Fire tank will see less use after the Issue. Hell, all my tanks probably, beyond the lower levels...except for my Fire/Fire Scranker maybe. Scranking and maybe Blapping may make a come back.
I still get the nagging feeling that outside of some TF's a Tank will be less desireable in relation now, won't it? It's already slightly annoying past 38 or so (some Trollers), and it's bound to get worse for Tanks. Glass half empty kinda guy, yeah I know.
People will begin to notice that Corruptors can buff/debuff AND do damage. Brutes can tank AND do damage. The only thing stopping Scrappers from overtaking Tanks right now is their general inability to hold aggro due to the simple fact that they don't taunt.
I still take those ATs along from time to time, but if I had the choice, I'd much rather take a Brute over a Tank and a Corruptor over a Defender. Simple reason being both of those ATs do their job well enough that extra isn't needed. I have 3 Brutes who can handle spawns of 6 to 8 by themselves. If you add in a dash of support, 8 all the way. There's no reason I need to sacrifice damage to have extra inherent survival unless I'm for some reason planning for a team that has no support at all. And as long as Brutes and Corrs are doing tanking/supporting well enough, the other thing they bring is damage. And the best defense is a good offense.
My teams will be filled with Brutes, Scrappers, Corruptors, Controllers, Blasters, Dominators, and VEATs if I can get them. The other ATs will do in a pinch, but I find them to be too specialized to have the same sort of general contribution to a team that the ones I named offer. I'm not trying to claim that all blue ATs will be replaced with red ones, or all red ones will be replaced by blue ones. What I think will happen is that certain ATs, like Tanks, Defenders, and Stalkers will be shown to be too niche-y to be asked for regularly. Though, there will always be people who are stuck in their ways and insist on taking a Granite Tank to do newspapers. -
Quote:Are you sure about that? I put together a regen build that had both regen uniques, quite a few regen bonuses thanks to Numina, and Health/Physical Perfection. It rounded out at about 770% passive regen. I don't think it's "not uncommon" to find another 30% over expensive uniques, Numina bonuses, and a power that has only existed since last issue. I think 600% might be a more reasonable figure. But even that would require some regen bonuses. Or PP at the very least.it is not uncommon for a Regen to hit 800% passive regeneration.
Plus, 771% regen with 1792 HP is 57.7 HP/sec. -
Quote:I also feel like the reward should be there as long as you're "just a hero" or "just a villain," and you aren't exempt the moment you go vigilante/rogue. I say that because I feel like unless the rewards are compelling, there'd be almost no reason to not be vigilante/rogue over hero/villain, because you'd be missing out on tons of zones, content, and badges. But if I can make my mastermind turn into a hero and KEEP her as a hero, and get the rewards, that might be worthwhile. I'd just lose them if I go vigilante... but gain them back if I go pure hero. The devs just have to make sure the rewards aren't too good, else nobody will want to switch sides.
Does that make sense? -
To expand on what Faith said, there are some nice keyboards designed for gaming that can handle a very high number of simultaneous keystrokes. You might look into some gaming boards. Ideazon, Z-Board, and Logitech are all fairly good. I like Logitech for peripherals. I have an MX Revolution. Though I have a $10 Logitech keyboard and I've never had any issues with keyblocking.

Quote:As far as I'm aware, this is pretty much how all units with increased "perception" work. There are Nemesis snipers with an ACTUAL increased perception which allows them to aggro from farther away. This generally only applies to snipers. It seems that KoA are the same way: they have perception radius 45/50/54, but completely ignore stealth
But most units, like drones, knives, and overseers have normal "perception radius," yet will still see you even if you exceed that value. In other words, they can't see from farther away and won't aggro from farther away (unlike snipers), but once you come in range they'll still attack you. Rikti drones have normal perception radius, and it can be reduced with smoke grenade. But if I come near them with 70 stealth, they see me anyway.
Or to make it easier, pretty much all units have normal perception. Snipers have extra, which allows them to see farther and aggro from farther away. Then there are units like drones and such that flat out ignore stealth and will see you anyway. -
Quote:I don't have a job with CoH. And I don't want one. For one, I never applied for one. And two, I'm not qualified. Sure, it'd be a dream job to wake up every morning and get paid to improve the game I spend most of my free time on, but just because I like the game doesn't mean it's a good idea for me to be working on it. Really, if I was to be employed, my area of study is programming, so I'd be sitting in the background doing the boring, thankless stuff with pohsyb and friends.Put it this way Lady Sadako:
You got a Dev's Choice arc, so did Dispari and many others. Where is your job and where is their job?
The devs didn't hire Fearghas because he's a player. They didn't hire him because he makes cute AE arcs. They hired him because he's qualified to do the job they hired him to do. Not only would it be a bad idea to hire people just because the devs "like him," it would put the new employee in a bad place.
Quote:My only point is that hiring a player sets a very dangerous precendent. It reeks of favouritism toward that particular player (not that the whole Dev's Choice fiasco didn't do that already). There is the concern that the hired player will show favour to his or her global friends list when examining potential rewards tied to the Architect.
The powers team could have a bias toward stuff their friends want to see. The people implementing new stories could be inclined to give a shout-out to their amigos. Jay could be only making costume parts that his busom-buddies have been asking for. Heck, we already know various devs have personal bias on some decisions. Know why we don't have Clown Summoning, more options for ice/earth customization, and no redside Empathy? Because the devs want it that way. There's no spreadsheet to show why, it's just how they feel it should be.
And as long as we don't reach "screw you guys, I'm doing this" levels of bias like with Mister Jack, we're fine. As long as it's not a hindrance for players and causes an actual issue, there's no reason to skip over hiring a qualified person because they "might" bring bias.
Quote:If there were aspects of games engineering tied to the player vs. player experience (and there most certainly are) then certainly PvP experts should be considered for the position.
Just as base experts should be considered for that iteration as well.
The developers have opened the door here. If there are no more player-based hires, it will look odd. If there are player-based hires, then this looks great.
Congrats to Fearghas on his new position.
I'd rather our devs play and enjoy the game they work on. As far as I'm aware, all (most?) of them do. I don't see any good reason to hire people who DON'T play the game. I want our AE dev to be someone who makes AE arcs and plays with the system to know where it lacks. I want our PvP dev to be someone who frequently PvPs and knows what players hate and what needs fixing. What I don't want is for our devs to be all number-crunchers and trying to fix things without having a hands-on view of the situation. I want all of our devs to be experts in their field, and the only way to be an expert at "that one part of that one video game," is to actually play the game. -

Two of my Brutes can handle +2/x8 solo without support. A team with two Tanks should be able to handle stuff without needing someone to have the medicine pool. Bonus points if one of those many melees is Shield.

Quote:Oh, I agree on Scrappers. The thing with them is they don't have any gimmicks to do damage. A Brute who can't build fury does pretty crappy damage, as I can attest having played many non-lead Brutes. I got tired of playing "Scrapper" Brutes and started playing "Tank" Brutes a long time ago, so all my higher level ones are built to withstand high damage from lots of foes while maintaining high aggro. I have some nice WP, Inv, and Shield Brutes.Great post- I don't think scrappers will quite be in danger of being swapped out for brutes though. In my opinion, scrappers stack much better than brutes do. I don't halfway mind being one of many scrappers on a team. I do, however, mind being one of many brutes. I pretty much won't join a team with more than three brutes. I don't want to be competing for aggro *that* much just to maintain a respectable amount of fury. On teams like that, I will just swap to a different AT before I roll with one of my brutes.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, once you have one or two Brutes, adding more just means there's a bunch of guys running around with 0.75 damage modifier who don't have any fury. At that point I'd MUCH rather have a Scrapper along.
