I've never really played Corrupters before (Had an AR/Kin that didn't make it out of the single digit levels a long time back), but lately I've started finding myself curious about DP. Combine this with being interested in trying a Corrupter for myself and the answer was quite obvious.
The reason I picked /Rad is because quite frankly it looks awesome in terms of effectiveness, but I'll admit I know very little about how either powerset plays out in the long term or how strong this combination will end up being, either in teams or in solo combat, so I'm quite open to advice and feedback on this combo.
That said, I've heard DP isn't the strongest primary around, but I'm somewhat set on it due to the animations which I quite love. Is that gonna be too big of a deal, or am I simply worrying too much? I know it'll never be a Fire/Rad in terms of damage, but I'm hoping the power of /Rad might help to make up for any weakness DP has as a primary.
Thanks in advance for any help! -
So I've taken a Demons/Storm to 17 so far and I kinda like it, but something so far just doesn't seem to quite feel like it's clicking with me.
Now before I go too much further with this I've decided to do a little asking around and see what people think of some secondaries for DS, since I'm mainly thinking between /Storm and /Thermal... /Dark I already know is badass as hell from a Thugs/Dark of mine, and it's a secondary I like, but since I already have a /Dark MM I'm a little hesitant to turn right around and do it again.
One key thing is that I'm fond of powerset combinations that are strong solo, though being useful to a team is always a huge plus and /Thermal seems tough to go wrong with. It strikes me as an extremely versitile powerset with a little bit of everything, and I'm curious about how its resistance based shields might stack with the resistance the Demons already have going for them, especially backed by its heals.
I guess my only concern with Thermal is that I'm just not sure how strong a Demon/Thermal would be in solo combat, although I know it's pretty damned strong in a group. Well that, and just how late the debuffs enter the picture has me a little concerned too...
Ah yeah, it's worth noting the character is of a magical origin I think.
So what do you guys think? -
I just wanted to pop in here for a moment to say that reading this thread has been the thing that has inspired me to try playing a Warshade for the first time. That said, my MA/Elec Scrapper is still just 34... so by extension, this has also finally given me the drive to shoot for 50 for the first time. Well done OP, well done.
With any luck at all I'll be back on this board soon asking about my own first Warshade. -
Ok I think by this point I'm fairly set on a Fire/Fire Blaster, messing around with designs and looking at Mids. I think the sheer number of AOE's, while still having what appears to be pretty damn good single target damage is what sold me on it.
Would I be right in assuming all these AOE's combined can put out some incredible carnage? And am I right in assuming the slow effect from Hot Feet combined with the slow effect from RoF might be enough to keep enemies from running away as I slam them with brutal AOE after brutal AOE? Though I'm drawn to the Hover/Flier style of fighting, I can't deny that I also love being right in the thick of it all, especially knowing I'm capable of dealing that much damage. -
Hmm, a possible slight change of plans assuming it'll work out ok, after messing around a bunch with the colors on Fire/Fire I think I might be more inclined to give that a try. Fire Sword Circle looks AWESOME. Though Bone Smasher and Total Focus look great too, so it's kind of tough to decide...
I suppose we can't color epic power pools yet? Otherwise a Fire/Fire/Fire might be the way I wanna go on this guy unless there's some reason this just wouldn't work. I love the things that can be done with Fire color-wise. -
Now I've been playing CoX for kind of a while now, and for the longest time I've intended to give Blasters a fair shot. I've finally decided to get around to making one pretty much now, hoping to round out my characters a bit.
Problem being I don't know a whole lot about Blasters, just a few basics. They do incredible damage, they make badguys go away even faster than my Scrappers or Masterminds, and they tend to be awesome to watch, especially with Power Customization. I've fiddled with a few that never made it out of the single digit levels, and... That's pretty much it
So really I guess I'm kinda looking for quick Blaster tips in general as well as powerset suggestions for someone setting foot in the world of Making Things Die Mega Fast for the first time, though I'm already kinda eying Fire/Energy or Archery/Energy, they both seem pretty powerful and fun, but Fire/Energy looks like it'd be flashier. And flashy is good, in fact powersets will win bonus points with me for being exceedingly flashy with pretty colors and shiny explosions. (Though I'll probably make an Archery Blaster anyhow at some point as the powerset just looks like fun.)
So yes... thanks in advance for any and all advice! -
Hmm... see that's part of what makes this a tough call.
It seems like Claws/WP would be easier to play and potentially stronger, but /Regen certainly is a ton of fun. That said, insane-o crazy stuff is tons of fun too, and one of the things that draws me to Scrappers. Chiefly I'm just worried that Claws/Regen isn't going to be too good at staying alive while soloing on X8. Then again it seems with all that AOE, most swarms wouldn't be able to stand toe-to-toe with me for very long, right?
Some useful information so far, so thanks guys! Been quite a bit of help so far in figuring out how I might go about building the guy. -
Because you can never have too many Scrappers, I've decided to go ahead and throw a Claws Scrapper into the mix as well. Turning into some kind of Human/Blendtec hybrid certainly sounds like fun!
That of course leaves the question of what secondary powerset to pick from. Just going off of what I've heard offhand, I know /SR is a pretty awesome choice, but I've already got both a DB/SR Scrapper and plans for a Claws/SR Brute, so I'm already getting quite an /SR fix from other characters.
From there, I've more or less narrowed it down to either Regeneration or Willpower, and from there I'm really not too sure which one to pick. They both seem like they would be powerful choices, they both have Quick Recovery, they both look like fun... what I know so far is that Regeneration is typically better for strong, individual enemies while Willpower handles better when you do what all good Scrappers will inevitably do and dive headfirst into a sea of enemies collectively capable of enough firepower to demolish a building.
That said, I'm leaning slightly towards Regeneration simply for the fact I also have an SS/WP Brute I'm getting a Willpower fix from, and I've always wanted to take a Regen character of some kind or another to 50. But before I actually do that, I figured I'd go ahead and ask you guys for some feedback on the Claws/Regen and Claws/WP combos, and see if there's anything useful you guys know that I've probably missed about how the two combos might work, because to be completely honest I've never played a Claws/ character before and I don't really know how the powerset works. So yes... opinions? Thoughts on Claws? Little random useful tips like "if you skip this power I will personally call down a meteor shower upon you and all that you hold dear"?
Thanks in advance! -
Hmm... I thought Air Superiorty was a great solo tool due to the potential migation, but if it's really not that great with, I think I'll go Combat Jumping and Super Jump. I love Super Jump way more than I do Fly.
-
There's a thought, though part of the reason I love MA is because of the animations. (Yes, I even kinda like CAK, though I suppose I could skip it if I had to. And there's no way I'm skipping Eagle's Claw.) So skipping a bunch of attacks from the primary isn't something I'm too keen on doing. Thunder Kick and CAK maybe.
-
Something that's bugging me is that I just can't see to fit everything into the build. Is dropping Stamina practical for a build with Power Sink? Between Focus Chi, Air Sup, Cobra Strike, Stamina, Weave, basically the entire secondary, a decent number of attacks...
Anybody happen to have any example builds by any chance? Should I be skipping/dropping Thunder Kick at some point? (Even though I rather prefer how it looks compared to just plain ol Kick from the Fighting pool.) Usually I'm alright at designing builds, but I can't seem to find a decent way to do this one and not making it horribly weak when exemplared down. though I suppose there's always Dual Builds for that... -
Thank you for that idea, I'm gonna throw that into one of her alt costumes if I can. Kung fu hat, flying kicks, all while being on lightning... awesome.
Seeing as Grounded is useful, hrm... I'm not really sure where I'm gonna find the space to fit in Weave, Stamina, and everything else. Though I suppose it's doable by 50 but I was hoping the build wouldn't take nearly every power slot I've got to make work. -
Wow, the more I play with this in Mids' the more complicated it looks... trying to fit in Stamina + Weave + Grounded (which I assume is important) and Lightning Field (which seems to help with MA's lack of AOE)... and AirSup not to mention Cobra Strike and Focus Chi... hrm. This is gonna take some effort.
-
Cobra Strike, Crane Kick... Air Superiorty seems like it'd be pretty useful too right?
And yeah, the sheer visual awesomeness of the combo is one of the chief reasons I'm making it. -
Well with I16 it looks like we're getting our hands on /Elec, which is IMO one of the flashier and generally cooler looking defensive powersets. Even moreso now that we have power customization. And MA has generally been considered one of the flashier powersets, so I figured I'd make an MA/Elec!
Thing is, I'm not really sure how well the two powersets will play with each other or how it can be expected to handle. I've heard neither MA nor Elec can generally be considered the best of the Scrapper powersets by any means, and I'm not sure how the two of them combined is going to work out.
Any tips/advice/what have you? All I've figured so far is that Tough, Weave and Stamina would all help a great deal, but Power Sink may somewhat cancel out the need for Stamina. That said, it still seems like I'd get quite a bit of use out of it. What about Aid Self, or where one should go with IO's? Truthfully I've yet to try IOing out a character but it's always nice to know what my options are.
Really I guess I'm just concerned that it's not going to be able to dive into large swarms of enemies and commence with kicking everybody through walls, instead stuck fighting 2 and 3 man spawns when solo or something, but maybe I'm just worrying too much. -
Kinda wonder, what's the general opinion on Resilience for a Kat/Regen Scrapper? I can't think of what else I'd take in its place, but I'm not sure the extra s/l resist is enough to warrent a power choice... of course, I figure any resistance at all has to help somewhat.
-
I see... I must be underestimating what I'll be capable of later on then! It's comforting to know Kat/Regen's got the potential though.
Regarding IO's, isn't it possible to have two builds now? What I might do is have one build that's strictly for high level stuff, IO'd to the gils with an entire build dedicated to max level 50 effectiveness and then the other build will be focused on SO's, two travel powers, more effectiveness at lower levels. More of a "for fun" build than a serious one.
I'm also guessing Tough and probably Weave would be part of such a build? I kinda wonder how much inf I'm looking at here for a perma DP setup, though I certainly aspire to take this Scrapper to some crazy levels. (If ANY of my characters manage to get a full purple set, it's gonna be her.) -
Lemme preface this by saying I just came back to CoX because of Issue 16 and the new difficulty settings, though power customization is nice too.
My main Scrapper, and arguably my main character by this point is a level 34 Katana/Regeneration Scrapper, and it's easily been one of the most fun and powerful characters I've played. Taking her for a spin on the test server, I seemed to be able to do alright against a 4-man spawned even level Freakshow mission, yet I can't help but feel like I should be able to go further than that...
Stories of Scrappers handling seas of +2's and more have me wondering one simple question though, can Katana/Regen hit that kind of power? I know /Regen tends to cope really poorly with burst damage, and is generally bettered suited to duelist-style situations rather than mob fights, but it seems like it should be possible... truthfully, this is the furthest I've ever managed to get a Scrapper, so I'm not really sure how much my power is gonna increase from 34 to 50, or when IO sets enter the picture, but I'm a little worried that Kat/Regen is never going to be able to solo that many enemies at one time even with the awesome that is Divine Avalanche.
So I was wondering if there were any other Kat/Regen scrappers here who have managed to pull off those kinds of odds before? Or other kinds of Regen Scrappers really, though Kat or BS would seem the most relevant.
Oh and while I'm talking about the subject, about how long should I wait before I start looking into IO sets and the like? Untill 50? My knowledge of actual IO builds is pretty limited, but I know I'm gonna wanna shoot for heavy recharge for Perma dull Pain... I presume that would make Hasten a requirement too? -
I have to admit I'm kinda curious about how an MA/Elec might play and what I might be able to achive with one. That, and electric flying jump kicks to the face, what's not to love?
