Ahhh, I got as far as /showfps but didn't put the variable in so it left me with a message saying 0.000 in the chat box... guess it was telling me it was set to 0.

Has anyone else experienced this bug or is it just me?
Yeah, had it a couple of times. The best solution I found was to zone, dismiss, zone again and resummon. Not had the bug enough to guarantee it works, but so far so good.

Is there any way to change your character's height post-creation? I would kinda like to change the height of one of my higher-level characters... is there any way to do it?

    Question 2:
After not playing for so long I totally forget... at what level does your 4th costume slot open up and where do you go to quest for it? (I know by your 30s you have 3 costume slots - your original look + 2 other slots... and I know one slot is for SG outfits... but when do you get the 4th slot?)

    Question 3:
A question that at least kinda fits here heh...
The Domination power (that Dominators get, of course) - I know it boosts the effectiveness of your control powers, but by how much specifically? Does it double the mag of the effect? ...or increase the mag of things by 1 (or another set number)? ...just curious how it functions mechanically behind-the-scenes. I know the power has changed a LOT since I've been away from CoH (gotta say the inherant dmg increase to Doms and not having to deal with the "up & down" damage of domination being on or off is actually pretty nice)...

Thanks in advance for any info!
1: If you have the science booster you can go to the tailor and find the super tailor (I think it's called) or the tailor in Pocket D. If not, you can adjust the leg length a little.

2: You're 4th is opened up at level 40. The 5th can be opened at any time using halloween salvage as above. The 1 for supergroup costumes is up to the SG, not a game requirement.

    3: No idea sorry.

OK, fair enough. False is definitely not the word I would have used. False to me implies he is lying. I agree it is clearly bugged, or if it's WAI then it's a massive design flaw. And I would take Castle's post below as acknowledgement that there is a problem.

Except without the second part of his quote you make it sound like he is saying there isn't a problem. Especially with your original wording:

A dialog says This name was used in the past, do you wish to claim it for your new character? Yes or no. Some people might say no simply due to not wanting to usurp anothers name or be mistaken for an old player, some might want the name reguardless. If i say yes then that character is made generic on the canceled account and i get the name, if i say no, then it remains untouched.
As I understand it this is how it works now.

I think BBQ was saying if they kept the SG but removed the base. So the SG would get the Prestige back.

Players of COH know that the above quote does not reflect the reality of the game. Critters run away whenever they feel like. Maybe you could somehow break the morale of a level 10 minion by killing a boss next to him, but come on. Nosferatu? A level 50 archvillain? I didn't even attack his minions! I was too busy running all over the place to try to get his attention.
I think you're being a little unfair on Castle with some selective quoting there. His full post reads like this:

I'm not saying there isn't a problem; I am giving you, the players, more information regarding how it works internally. You should also know that runners are a part of the game and eliminating that aspect of the game isn't really likely to happen.
Emphasis mine on the bit you left out. To me that implies there probably is a problem and they are looking at it. I could be wrong, but I think you at least owe it to him to provide the full quote.

A lot of time, money and effort goes into IOing a character and loosing all that is a real pain.
With SO's they are not that expensive but when a single IO recipe (im not talking about the uber IO's like Numina, Obliteration, Procs or Uniques etc) can cost 250,000 INF, then the salvage say another 150,000 INF and crafting cost (say 55,000 INF) thats 455,000 INF for a single Slot. Level 30 SO is what 35,000 ish.
Take Serendipity (level 30). Recently I looked at slotting my /SR Brute with them at level 30. I then plan on reslotting with LotG when I get to 40-45+.
For a set of 4 Serendipity the cost to buy crafted IO's was around 3.5 Mil Inf.
Recipes and Salvage was around 1.4 Mil Inf. This is taking an average of the cost for the last 5 sales (not the most accurate I know but dont have anything better to base it on).

Someway to unslot IO's and not waste them, but also not requiring 3-4 respecs would be great.

    Thanks in advance
The Dev's are on record as being against this idea. There is a popup the first time you slot an enhancement saying once you slot this its locked in there. If they allow players to remove enhancements easily there will be almost no inf destroyed in game causing inflation to rise even worse than it does now.

The idea is to slot it over your old one. You wanting the old one out is just pure greed.
  12. I've had a NPC text for most of the ambushes in GR I've encountered. I'm far from having done all the arcs but so far haven't noticed silent ambushes. What missions are you running?

Impossible to "Grief" using someone else's name (though costume, bio, and near-name is fine)

    Cons for Unique names

Players are forced to change from the name they had in mind.
Immersion breaking "Hacked" or l33tsp33k names.
Is another hurdle to jump when a server merge occurs (either forced or in a paradigm shift)
Some players give up on character concepts because they can't get a name they enjoy.
Cross-server teaming is impossible without changes to the system.

    Pros of Non-Unique Names
Freedom to name your character as you see fit.
Sharp decline in "Hacked" or l33tsp33k names, leading to less immersion breaking
Less player frustration at the naming screen
Players can still be creative to get a name noone (or nearly noone) has.
More time spent playing the game than sitting at the name screen typing synonyms (total, not individual)
Less player-drop of concept characters due to names being available.
One less step to make when a "Serverless" environment or single-server environment becomes the norm.
Helps cross-server teaming attempts by making names no longer a hurdle.

    Cons of Non-unique Naming
    Requires a coding change
Immersion breaking at the rare times when two people with the same name meet (if they even care)
Removes the concrete feeling that one "Owns" a name.
Without monitoring or global-ties, could lead to griefing under false-identities.
I would add promotes a wider variety of names to the Unique Pros list.

As I said above I would add allows players to create different versions of the same character to the Non-Unique list.

I'm not sure it's fair having the serverless or cross server teaming items on there as there has been no concrete information on those and it's all been player supposition. But in saying that if they do implement either system something will have to be done about names and we are likely to see something like this in place.

Let's assume that, in total, there are about 120,000 players on CoH.

Let's split those up evenly among the various archetypes, and with a bit of rounding we get 8,571 players on each archetype at a given time.

Let's also split that number by server, and we wind up with 779 players on Virtue (for example) playing one archetype.

Now let's divide each archetype by the number of primary powersets and discard all the ones which don't have a "Fire" primary.

    Blasters: 78
    Brutes: 70
    Controllers: 97
    Corruptors: 78
    Dominators: 111
    Scrappers: 78
    Tankers: 111

So! That's 623 players using a Fire power for their primary. Out of 10,906 players on Virtue.

Let's assume that fully 10% of players using a fire primary decide on the name "Blaze" with no other alterations or additions. That's 62 players with a fire character named Blaze.

Let's divide it further! Those 62 players aren't all going to be in the same time zone, after all. So breaking it down by 24 hours (one per time zone) we wind up with almost 3 players using the name "Blaze" in a given time zone! So if you're online during a given one hour period you have a 3 in 455 chance of meeting a guy named Blaze (Once we divide that 10,906 by 24, of course)

But wait! Further divide that total by 12. The number of character slots a person will have, automatically, on Virtue! That's .25 out of 455 or 1 in 1820 that you'll meet someone named "Blaze" on Virtue in a given hour!

Of course, ALL of my numbers are off, since we know Virtue and Freedom are the two most populated servers. So you'd likely as not see a higher instance of "Blaze" characters running around. But you'd also see a higher number of people NOT named "Blaze" running around, as well. Since the total population would grow as well as the various "Blaze" characters...

So yes. I am in favor of non-unique names.

And to those who comment on the Champions method being ugly (Blaze@Winnebago34) please note that Champs has an option in the game menu to turn off globals over people's heads or in chat windows. So such a system is already in place to continue avoiding immersion breaking.

While you might meet 12 "Rogue Angels of Satan" in Atlas Park during Peak Hours because someone thought it would be funny... do you ever take them seriously, anyway?

    -Rachel-
Seeing as you keep coming back to this there are some big assumptions in here. I don't quite understand the breakdown per AT based on primary but I think it's 779/total primaries. If so I would argue that secondaries should also be included as a Willpower fire tank would more likely include choose a fire based name. Which would probably double the number already.

Additionally you have divided by 24 for the time zones but it would be fair to assume the majority of the players are based in the US on the NA servers meaning that skews it more against too.

It's also not only about you seeing someone with the same name as you but other people seeing someone with the same name as you and thinking it's you and the % of that happening would be higher.

I'm playing a little bit of devils advocate here. As I said above I like the system as it is, but could get on and deal with it if they changed it unless they managed to screw it up badly somehow and I would probably take advantage of it by rolling identical characters (fire/fire blaster and fire/fire tank as different roles of the same character for example) which is probably worth adding to you Pro's list.

I would argue that you would be more likely to see people with the same name as you if you opened it up to non-unique than you would see bad spellings like you list above. Most of us would find another name rather than corrupt the spelling. If there wasn't a warning the name was taken then you wouldn't think of a new name.

If they had a vote I would vote against it. If they changed it I would deal with it, provided it wasn't horribly visible in game and I would like to see a warning pop up that the name was already in use so I could come up with something else.

While people can do this now if non-unique naming was allowed it would happen much more often than it does now. Sure, as Rachel posted above, chances of you running into them aren't huge, but I prefer to know my name is unique.

JB, you were asking for solid arguments why it's bad, but providing little arguments on why it's good. There are very few good reasons to keep the status quo but just as few reasons to change it. The only solid facts are that there is a solid core of people supporting each argument and you're opening post indicates there is more support for retaining it. Obviously the powers they have would have to be thought through and I guess if they had powers similar thematically to the attacks that would work. Would be very cool if they were also able to dip into any secondary you have.

  23. I've discovered when it comes to playing CoX I'm a bit sexist. I am half working on leveling 1 of each AT to 50 Blue Side while playing whatever I feel like with other toons. Of the 5 mains of each AT I have 2 at 50; Scrapper and Blaster, 2 in the 40's; Troller and Fender; and a tank in the 30's. However, 4 of them are male toons. Only the tank is a female.

I've rolled other female toons and enjoy them but they tend to languish around the 20-30, with only the Fire/Fire blaster getting any love and she was a reroll of my first tank (fire/fire, didn't enjoy it, but liked the back story) and my second toon.

But here's the other side of the story... I have 5 villians and they are all female except for the SoA I rolled. They aren't as high yet, but I enjoy playing them.

Praetoria seems to be breaking my pattern as while I rolled a female Stalker she is taking the warden's path.

So, does anyone else notice a gender bias in their toons?
