  1. Currently I haven't paid more than 3 million for a single piece and even at NAO prices I usually pay only 2 million.

Also, I realize that the formula I described overestimates actual cost in many cases, but that allows for a bigger margin of error when slavage spikes or the listing fee is higher.

They also know that in most cases there is a much smaller market for anything that isn't max level or min level so they can pretty much wait you out.

That said you have to consider this just how long does it take you to get your rolls. How much do you earn/time playing your fifties how much are the level 50 versions of the IOs going for. Now in order to actually make a profit you need to sell your IOs for more than what the level 50 versions are going for + your lost influence from playing below 50 to generate them.
That's true, if the only goal is to make the most profit then you are correct. My goal is to supply a sgement of the market that is hard to service. I need recipes at that level and I suspect others do as well. When I can get a level 30 oblit quad that I don't have to pay 40 million for then the smaller profit that I make on the other items should help.

Again, I don't need billions and billions. I need enough to fund my alts and to pay for the fun I have crafting and trying different sets.

Could I make more profit? Probably. I don't need it all, just enough.

That said, there's clearly a crafting truism you can work with:

You can't make money crafting unless you can sell above your costs.
I'm not really trying to find a nice or craft in a niche more just trying to get the most out of my A-Merit rolls. Here's how I have been figuring cost:

2 million per piece of rare salvage
50000 per piece of non rare salvage
    500000 to craft the recipe
    500000 to list the shiny.

    So that's 3,150,000 per recipe.

So if I can sell it for at least 5 million I can make a little profit.

Of course this is an average some things sell for much more and have higher listing costs and salvage costs. But anything that doesn't make that much doesn't get crafted. So that everything that does get crafted makes a profit at least.

I don't have any numbers to prove it, but I suspect over time that the average profit per shiny sold is much higher than 1.75 million just because of off things like someone paying 250 million for BotZ -knockback last week and salvage

So I think I am coming out ahead but I spend it on toons pretty quickly. I am helping my sister I/O out her toons as well as my own (to be fair, she pretty much hands her finds over to me to deal with)

Definitely going to work up a pricing strategy and if you like let you know how it works.

Informative as always guys (and ladies if any be present).

Yeah, they are pool C rares as opposed to AE uncommons with a chance for a rare on. (I do have two accounts but the performance hit made things unpleasant to play.)

Plus you get 5 rolls per A-merit and can convert 50 reward merits + 20 million for another A-merit.

But besides that I have never really taken to AE. I have tried it many times and I like regular content better. I like running around in the world. I tried Fulmen's Bronze roll selection and while it was ok, there was so much crap to wade through and since I don't always know what's good I had to look everything up on the market. That took me a lot longer than running tips. But whatever works!
  5. Definitely some food for thought here.

I am not actually crafting for a niche, more like just trying to maximze what I get from A-Merits.

I figure that once I get three level locked toons and 1 50 doing the tip missions, I should at least get 1 random roll 3 days out of 4 and 1 chosen recipe by the the fourth day. I can run 10 tips a day total, not always on the same toon so that they will cycle.

Except for the 50 cuz his takes the least amount of time to run. He can do 5 a day, so he gets a pick every other day

If I can get a pricing strategy to work then I will only have to invest an hour so per day and should have all kinds of things my alts need.
  6. Swell guy, is that crafted?

Also, I get 30 and 35 as lockable but 25 is different. I had a 22 that I unlocked and he is nearly 25. What is the benefit? Is there demand for lvl 25 recipes?

I ask because i completed a very good level 20 build in about 2 days with a little patiant bidding. My level 30 build still isn't completed and I don't expect to be for another week or so. True the level 30 build is an exemp build for my main filled with pricey and rare stuff but still..
  7. Let me start by saying I don't consider my self a Marketeer. There is way too much I don't know. I don't look for niches to exploit, I don't flip salvage, I don't try and corner supply, etc. I don't have a problem with it just not terribly interested in doing so,

But I do enjoy crafting. I have many alts, I craft for my friends, etc. It bothers me whenever I have to vendor a recipe I can craft just because I know I would lose money on it.

With the arrival of A-Merits, I have been level locking a toon at 30 and hope to get a second one to 32 to create recipes in what is a higly desirable range,

Here's the problem: Pricing. There isn't history for a lot of items and I know that there is demand, just no supply but that also means that I have no clue how to price many items that my random rolls are generating.

So what I am looking for is a pricing strategy based on a level where there is demand and history. Basically, at what ever level the set I/O tops out.

    Any ideas?

    Sad!!!

Also keep in mind that A-Merits are going to depress some prices. Four days of play can get you anything but a purple or PVP. ANYTHING. Demand will fall with less money chasing goods. Prices got to go down. But that's ok because relative purchasing power increases. Since inf doesn't depreciate the way RL currency does, those sitting on huge wallets will get more bang for the buck!

Why do we need two threads of kvetching? How about we stick to complaints about things like not being able to buy the pack in the store, or bugs. The content of this pack is set in stone, not going to change. Either buy it or don't. I think they heard every complaint there is to hear in the last thread.

The next pack that makes 100% of the people happy will be the first.
Actually, this is my virgin complaint. I wanted it to be special.

There are pool tables in Pocket D. I suspect that the pool emote is mainly for RP'ers who hang out in character there. Can't remember if there is a pool table in the cryptic lounge or not.

This. Sadly. I full fleshed pack would have netted 30 bucks from this COH nut, but this I just can't justify.

Either reduce the price or add to the pack. (yes let those that paid for it get the update at no charge.)

Maybe a simple survey as focus group of those who have bought boosters would have pointed out that many who don't mind parting with 50 bucks a month might feel this pack to worth far less.

Please, please, please let me give you my money for something that is reasonably priced and cool. Please. I am BEGGING you to take this money!
  12. Ok. I am ready for my "D'ouh!" hat.

Until I read Fulmens response I thought BUYING a recipe worked just like rolls as far as level and slider. In other words I didn't realize that sliding down to 30 would actually generate a level 30 recipe!

So I can use my lvl 50 to generate the level specific stuff I need for my exemping builds and Level locked 32 to generate random rolls for markety goodness and let my level 22 guy do whatever.

(Even though he is pretty effective for a 22 level. 4 sets of Entropic chaos. a miracle proc and performance shifter proc and he is mowing down the opposition at his level.)

As always, I learn something new on the Marketing forum.
  13. Ok, did a roll on a A-Merit at 22

    Ghost Widows Embrace - Acc/hold/Rech - 22
    Touch of death - Dam/EndRech - 25
    Sovereign Right - Acc/Dam/End - 25
    Eradication Quad - 22
Pounding Slugfest - Chance to disorient -22

Not Bad, but nothing to get too excited about. I got one more to roll tomorrow and then I guess I will decide whether to buy outright or roll based on the 15 rolls I took.

Celerity: Stealth is currently going for about 150 million at almost any level below 25 so even if the price dropped to 100 million I would need to do pretty well on tomorrow's rolls to equal or top that.
  14. Well, I actually have a 50 that is also gathering A-Merits and he as been rolling so far. He's gotten a few few good things and over the course of about 2 weeks he'd made about 500 million and that is without any LotG, Miracle or Stealth procs (except for 3 Time and Space which are essentially valueless). He's rolled about 5 times but I think maybe I have been rolling too low at 30 -35 and maybe I sholuld roll at 34-39 instead.

This really is just because i can do it. My lvl 50's are pretty much built the way I want 'em. About the only thing left is to build an exemping build.
I am working up another toon to lock at 32. I am definitely thinking rolling on her.

Going to 22 might be better. It's only one level and Stealth at 22 is just as good as at 21. I will take a look and see if it looks like a better deal.
  15. In my quest to hit the cap again, I have a toon level locked at 21 who is doing tips and getting A-Merits, like you do, and so far I am not rolling anything because I am not sure it is worth the risk to roll.

2 merits for sure will get me a low level stealth proc. I can always use one of those or if I don't need one, I can sell it for a nice chunk of change.

    OR

I could get 10 random rolls and hope I get lucky. My question is: Are there enough valuable rares below 20 to make it worth the risk?

Currently my thinking is no, but I could be persuaded by a compelling argument. So what think you?
  16. DevilYouKnow

    Merits 911!

    You guys got it right.

All my 40 plus toons have stealth procs and as they 30 plus toons get them then I will sell those. I like to slot the proc as low as possible so I can get the most benefit out of it.

When the day comes that I can sell every stealth proc +lvl 25 will be a great day indeed.
  17. DevilYouKnow

    Merits 911!

I NEVER sell stealth procs unless they are plus 40. I have about 50 alts and they all NEED stealth procs. NEED not want. NEED!
  18. If you do bring your main over, give me a shout sometime. I'm @mwruger and I have a badger that could use a few of those pvp badges and would love to help us both get them.

I don't PVP although I have been killed in Siren's Call and RV getting explore badges and you know what? Who cares? Always something else to do. I just rezzed and continued to badge and eventually they got tired of killing me when I just ignored their prattle. Got my badges and came back later to get my heavy control badge. If I was a PvPer I would be hardpressed to pat myself on the back for killing someone who is slotted for PvE and doesn't know all the changes that powers undergo in PvP zones or won't fight back, but, eh, whatever floats your boat.

Once I was actually in Siren's to hang out with a buddy who loves PvP (on Virtue now) and got killed and he was over the top in wanting to take them down and so forth. We fought em and killed them and they killed us and there was suprisingly little smack talk.

As aside, my PvP buddy will go on a tirade about how weird roleplayers are. He just doesn't understand why anyone would do that and catgrrls and cybering and In character chat, etc, etc, etc. I haven't the heart to point out that most people feel the same way about PvPer's.
  19. Ok. Thanks I got you. I am not a mega ebiller like most of you guys but I paid 75 million for one before the merge and I think 87 post merge but I'm not certain.

My method for bidding is pretty simple. I have set max price I am willing to pay. Once I hit that ceiling, I don't buy. I don't care what it is.

I love stealth procs but with A merits a stealth proc is a week away on any post level 20. I just can't make myself top 100 million for a proc even a low level one. Eventually everyone is going to realize that they can take a level 20 toon, get XP and drops running tips and be gauaranteed a proc and the price is gonna drop.

But that's OK too. Maybe if people (non marketers) see that they can buy stuff at a lower price then the market will be healthier.
  20. Just thought of a reason. If you don't have the listing fee you might bypass the market.
  21. Just curious, not trying to be annoying or anything, but why not just list it on the in-game market?

I gaurantee that almost everyone who reads it here has a good idea what it going for and they won't overpay. Somebody might actually get a little nuts on the market tho'.

    Just asking...
  22. Good to know about lvl 47's dropping possible purples. I was always under the impression that you had to kill lvl 50 critters.

I usually +1/+2 just for fun, but I admit it is a little stroke to the ego to bump up to +4/+4 and solo my blaster without dying more than once.
  23. I am level locking one at 20 for yummy steal procs and one at 30 for everything else. I need some LoTG and such at lower levels for exemping builds.
  24. I would add that if you are level 46 and you fight at +4 you will be fighting level 50 opponents and you will have a chance of a purple drop.
  25. DevilYouKnow

    Field Crafter

I just started this on an a toon and pretty much you can make money if you are patient and have a few 11 level plus mules to sell the things. Heck, I even sold some Fear enhancements
