You have to maintain the exact aspect ratio of the Original screenshot (or the cut-out portion) to prevent the 'squishies.'

Another thing to keep in mind is... a good screenshot is taken where there is a lot of direct and/or ambient lighting so you can easily see the character.

I am the Big Advocate of raising the Avatar Pixel space on these Forums to AT LEAST 100x100 and said so on many occasions... so naturally of course, they will never do it. But the more screen space to work with, the more elements and details can be included.

I gots a couple tips for ye:

1. Never ye talk like this, it be creepy. O.o

2. The bigger ye draw, the more detail ye can get. So draw big.

3. The legs should be a bit longer, methinks. That's unless ye be drawing in a baby-ish style type o' thing, as someone be sayin'.

Methinks ye should take heed this advice. Especially the first one.

(I have no clue why I typed it out like that, but you get the idea. >.> That's really good, by the way!! )

That's digital. Most likely Photoshop (especially for the lighting). The colors could be Photoshop or a mixture of it with Illustrator.
