    BUFF ME PLZ!!!

Ick the buff request is a pain in the neck sometimes. Worst I've ever had was my dark/kin corrupter Sic Elfling, teamed through the Times Arrow Tf with an irritating Stone Tank. Worse still it was someone I have met through our many personal player gatherings...anyway the instant he found out I was on the team he said "Ooh a /kin time to sort out my bind."

The next thing I knew I got a tell saying, "Oi Kin..SB Now Plz!!"

He'd bound it to a key so when he felt like his Granite armour was getting heavy he could bug me. Now I certainly dont mind helping out the team, and having the buffs and debuffs of /Kin one of my favourite things to do is FS peeps up to the Damage cap and watch them raise hell (whilst throwing in a Fulcrum Shifted Darkstar when I get chance..thank gawd for transference) but being sequestered as the tanks personal Speed Booster is degrading and unecessary. Needless to say I paid very little attention to that bind.....he used it, quite a lot, but he got SB when I deemed it reasonable to do so.

I can understand frustration at someone who has the buffs but doesn't use them. Sometimes it's that they just dont understand the powers that they have; I've been playing for 3 years and I'm still trying new powers and new combinations.

Eeee, I remember the days when SB was hated....I used to ask when I joined a team if peeps wanted it and most of them didn't....now everyone wants the cursed thing.

With regard to RAs, I have binds on my empath, they rotate through a sequence of different phrases to try and vary the message each time. However it just ended up irritating everyone so I just use develish cunning to figure out who needs Fort (I'm scrapper biased so it's Scrappers foist, then Blasters :P) and AB (Blasters usually, so their Endurance death after an AoE isn't so painful), then apply the RAs to as many folks as I can when they're availible.

Oh and if you're held/stunned/messed/generally undone, a "zzz" in team chat is perfect: it says everything I need to know and will make you my next target.

A name means nothing on the battlefield.

Oh I dunno, it can be useful for knowing who to shout at when things go wrong...
  4. Ooh I love the naming of toons, I'm a sucker for a pun, but a beautifully named character can make my day.

    My own:

Sausage unit G12 My first Brute character on Union. To be absolutely frank I've no idea where this one came from, but it makes my friends laugh every time they hear it.

Middle Management Zombie MM, after a dodgy day at work I thought I'd take a swipe at one of the banes of my life. Probably the most conceptually complete character I've ever made.

Egon Spoonrace DB Scrapper. Couldn't resist the pun.

Silicon Carnie Again couldn't resist the pun on this nifty blaster.

Menacing Moo my beloved Fire/elec blapper, she's got a great personality. She used to be a Dominator called Kokroach, but she wasn't very good at her job, so came to live in Paragon. My father fears cows and one day mentioned a particularly Menacing moo that was on an advert (Cravendale)...So I stole it

Gah as with Sapphic above I'm sure I've overstepped the name quantity tollerance, so I'll leave it there, but there are more :P
  5. Yeah I have the game windowed on my desktop, allowing access to anything I want really. I use browsers all the time, and usually have Vuse running in the background..the only thing that assists with play that I can think of is Teamspeak when I feel like shouting or singing at the Elflings :P

Plus when I need an inf transfer or Sg invite I'll fire up a second window full of CoX...that just sounds so filthy for some reason.

Oh and Media Player Classic if I fancy a bit of music, or playing some video in the background...and believe me, I do :P

I tried Heroestats once but spent too much time playing and not much time looking at the stats.
  6. Well personally I can happily play any architype in any combination, I'll find a way to make them work somehow.

However I know what you mean, the hero arcs are numerous but a bit meh, compared to the villainous arcs. I have 50s on both sides of the moral divide, I think the villains were more fun to level. I disagree about the content falling off at a higher level, some of the best villain arcs are 40+ yeah the patron arcs seem a bit mad when you turn on the person at the end, but hey, that's only that particular batch of missions...:P

Again the later arcs on Heroes can be good, especcially the Portal Corp stuff, my advice for heroes would simply be to stick it out, if you find an AT that you enjoy just push through to those later stages.

OR you could make the decision NOT to play heroes, yeah the praetorian arc's fun and there is good stuff in those higher reaches but if you cant settle on an AT dont worry about it. You wouldn't be the first to play only one side, and you've actually tried heroes so you can say it's not for you.

Though I think trying another tank would be a good idea too as, from what you said in your post, that could be your AT of choice.
  7. Yeah Field Crafter is a lengthy, time consuming badge, I only got it on Sic because I was able to dedicate serious time to the task...it requires all memorization badges apart from the 45s and the 50s, as well as the 1000 crafted items badge and the badge for finishing the crafting tutorial. Tis a swine of a badge to get.

They have a nifty table in ParagonWiki telling you all the badges for the crafter if you're prepared to link to that instead of writing out all the details

I like the idea of a "Hitch hiker's guide to Paragon City" sounds like a useful document.

    Affordability

Ooh yeah looking forward to seeing how the Merit system works out, should be interesting

I'd recommend learning to play the market....that's where I tend to get my inf from, plus leaving stategic bids on something you want for a long time does sometimes pay off.
  9. INdeed, why let the bad news of yesterday cripple the plans. I'm up for the player run event in OS, and if we were to do it it would probably need planning beginning now :P
  10. My gawd that sucks...

Hope you manage to find gainful employment folks, been great meeting you at the many events that I'm now worried about. Hope to see you around our side of the table in future

    Good luck and take care.

    Biographies!

Gawd nearly all my characters are tied together in some way, story wise that is :P

A good bio is a wonderful thing to read, and I see a good bio as one that entertains, be it through humour or through the captivating prose.

There are some brilliant ones out there too, it's always great to come across a new one.

Edit: And yes, the Elflings will once again be in attendance to totally show everyone how not to do a Task Force

    [/ QUOTE ]

Gah, I have 2 words for you Tellis...Personal Best..:P..I was surprised we managed to finish Positron in the time we did There will be an even bigger Elfling presence this time around, and if the rules for TF: O are revised so you can actually do the cursed thing AND enjoy the rest of the event (so glad I didn't miss the chance to chat with War Witch, but it still felt a little constrained) we'll be strutting Elfling stuff on all manner of electronic goodies

Cant see them putting Rock band back in the box....in fact I'll bet they have Rock Band 2, seeing as last time around it was an exclusive acquisition.

    Cant wait...
  13. Hehe complaining about a feature that we know almost no details about, and predicting DOOOOM™ because of it is a little daft.
I read it as getting a boost to the rate of xp for a short time, a bit like WoW Tbh, which is hardly game breaking and does make sense if you think about it. Leaving your characters on patrol or going about their daily business they'll be learning the nuances of their abilities, enough to maybe make a small difference when they next use them.

In terms of playability I'm sure it'll slot right into everyone's altism without much fuss.

I dont fear for the future of CoX, even with the other MMOs that are coming soon, as we have no idea of the plans that NCNC have for the game. If, when the others appear, NCNC only release 2 new costumes and an inflatable banana temporary pet, THEN I'll be worried....

I'm curious about why folks are so obsessed with XP; I guess it just depends on how you use the game.

Also bare in mind that the whole city tends to explode with activity on a double XP weekend: I'm sure that a limited time XP rate increase given to characters that you haven't touched for weeks on end will only be good fun.
  14. Are both the milk AND the cookies warm, or am I gonna have to get the microwave again...?

The power will combine both a shapechange costume and a travel power. On activation you transform into a car, bus or truck.

Upon which you promptly get mobbed by every civilian NPC in the zone who have been waiting several years for one to appear!

And if you log off in this guise it becomes your Dayjob with a buff to movement accumulated over time

What happens if you log out in that little Egg hunter dev lounge in Faultline with the NPC devs...does that make your character gain a badge and job title of Developer...

Or even, while your character is logged off it starts working on issue 14

Sounds fantastic, and they haven't even mentioned the base stuff that's going on.

As for Booster packs you really dont have to buy them you know :P It's not imperative...6 quid a throw sounds spot on to me, so I'll be happy to indulge in the cyborg pack...*begins to wonder what the included power could be...*

All in all I think it's a fantastic issue, best one I've seen for a while...though I'm not that keen on the name.

    [ QUOTE ]
Do you think we will we be able to get all the "Day Job" badges by rotating the places we log out at?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would be cool, you could also plan ahead for a future TF by getting any necessary buffs on your character etc before the event.

    NPC's for Bases

It's an interesting idea, I like the idea of having idle characters wandering around your base though I kind of prefer the idea that it was offline SG members myself.

    Still, very interesting
  19. That's very very cruel GR :P

I'm going to sleep wake me up when the announcement's up...
  20. Lol Ardvark, that's a work of genius, full gratz and a shiny "I went to the source and all I got was a Migrane" badge.

As for the clue I'd say it points to the base loving, I guess we'll find out on Tuesday.

Interesting points from the OP, I like the idea of convergence creating a 6th AT, the devs have a wealth of lore that they've not even shown us yet so I daren't imagine what's coming. Speculation is great fun though and a new AT would be very interesting
  21. Those are some seriously good prizes there Mother...I like the way the DVDs scale down from the seriously good Evil dead, through the entertaining Land of the Dead to the relatively tepid (though I do actually enjoy it) RE: Extinction. I'd join for sheer joy of doing it but those are cool prizes.

As for the cossie competition I'll just say that my designs are missunderstood, and 28 Days Later is a fantastic prize.

I'd happily join in the death race....
  22. Well I've had a similar sequence of events, just from the other side of things. I started out in EVE, which was great to begin with but the playerbase effectively owns the game so it became like a second job, and my nights were spent mining asteroids and using my second account to ferry the goods back to base...it was tedious....and I mean REALLY tedious.

As I played EVE I then subscribed to Planetside, which was incredible when I first played it, but endless PvP gets dull very quickly, okay you levelled and tried different configurations, and the immense battles were beautiful to be involved in, but it just felt a little shallow.

So I quit EVE and signed up to Everquest 2 (WoW wasn't out at that time) which was great fun but ridiculously complex, I tried WoW when that appeared and eventually dropped all other games for it because a friend joined in. It was fine for a year but I realised I just wasn't having fun and the subs that kept coming out every month were effectively a waste. I still have that character: Eriknafobia languishing at 42 it took me all that time to get him there, and he was my highest character....GRIND!!!!!

That was before they raised the level cap..:S

I was perusing the shops 2 and a half years ago, and I saw CoH, villians had only just been released and I remembered the reviews of CoH saying it was great fun and with a fantastic character designer. I remember when the American Beta was underway being intrigued by this game and wanting to play it....so now I had the chance and I got it. It didn't dissapoint, the character creation, as you all know, was unparalleled and the community just welcomed me in. That first day I remember taking my fledgling 1st character: Parabole into this brave new world and meeting another newbie, together we formed a Supergroup that went nowhere but I'd never in all my MMO experience felt a part of a community. In all the others I was a newcomer, someone who needed to earn trust, someone who would perhaps cause problems with their ineptitude. I'm not saying that everyone was like that in all the games, there were some generous souls who helped out but the attitude was very much "leave em to it."

I've never dropped my subs since the day I initially subscribed, if ever the game seems to sag at all I think back to those stupid asteroids, or the ridiculous distance I'd have to cross in WoW ON FOOT, or the insanely complex invention system in Everquest, and it makes me glad to be a part of this game and this community

I've since tried D&DO and Tabula Rasa, I do still enjoy Tabula Rasa, but D&D can stay where I left it....

Saying that though, I'll give WAR a go when it appears; as long as CoX is this good (and all the signs point to it beating even the current YAY factor in the near future) I'll not be leaving this behind
  23. Delph

    Am I Evil....?

yep, Diamond head did the original, Metallica did a great cover

I started singing it too when I saw the thread :P
  24. Delph

    Rolling Story

OOh I like the sound of this, used to do somethign similar on the Webcrawler boards, which was a great deal of fun. Count me in for a future segment, I'll watch what happens foist then throw an oar shaped device into the mix.
  25. Yeah I'll be at memorabillia with de rest of da elfling massive.......okay maybe massive isn't the right word but we;ll be there. Wont be able to make BICS, but definitely the Memorabillia event

Oooh yeah speaking of Omega (which is a very stable definite in my callendar for next year) has there been any further news of what's happening for it? Last I heard Rockjaw was trying to work out why everyone tried to kill themselves with the TF:O and was working on alternatives.

Would be good if they could get War Witch over again, and maybe someone else......yeah yeah I know stuff for a different thread, but it's buried somewhere in the past and I'm too lazy and full of muffins to go questing.
