Glad everyone could make it.
Easily one of the best arcs in the game.
Might need to make this a double XP tradition. It's way funnerer than Endless Borea. -
I'll be running the Stupid Jerk Viridian arc tonight at 8pm (eastern). Lots of AVs just in time for double XP.

Quote:This helps performance, but my character still looks like a Christmas tree.Really, in short, Power Customization is for aesthetics, not performance tweaks.
What the OP is looking for is SuppressCloseFX.
A Min. FX option would still be greatly preferable but this seems to be a decent workaround.
EDIT: after some more tweaking, I no longer look all glowy...Ian... you are the man. I had no idea that command existed. -
Quote:They were both Jack Emmert specific examples. The dark days are long over. We have a much better dev staff currently. As for the devs saying they'll "never" do things: You're exaggerating. In my experience they don't do that. They say they haven't considered it before, will consider it in the future, etc. but they almost never say they won't do something. I especially don't recall them being that specific about King's Row or the Hollows.
-
If I could dig up the Jack Emmert quote, I would.
Quote:If the problem is technical, then ask for a technical solution, not a cosmetic one. As others have pointed out, you can suppress player effects when close to the camera, as that's really the only time that creates a problem. I suppress my own, for instance.
If you don't wish to help, bugger off. -
My current schedule sadly isn't conducive to Isolators. It seems like every time I started real life kicked me back away from it. I always had fun in the groups, though.

Quote:Meh. They also at one point said they'd never put a store in Kings Row due to the lore of the city and that's how that zone was supposed to be. They also said at one point they'd never fix The Hollows from the noob death trap that it was.You only get Minimal FX (rather, FX in PvP Only) for powers with graphics that are iconic, rather than descriptive. In other words, only for powers that would normally not have any visual component. Being tough does not require any sort of glowing, so whatever sparkles we get for Invulnerability powers are only iconic representations that a power is, in fact, currently on. Powers that represent actual physical phenomena like fire, ice or, yes, even energy, do not get the option to disable visual effects. Their visuals are descriptive, in that they describe HOW this power works and what it does. These effects are not and should not be allowed to be disabled.
I've swapped PMs with BAB in the past regarding this power set and the problems it causes. If they're not going to offer a min. FX option, then it needs to be fixed. There is not one other power set or combo of power sets in this game that eats up that much graphics processing as Energy Aura. -
Ian -- thank you for that suggestion. I will give that a try.
-
I don't know if this is in the works, but even after all this time and after computer upgrades, the Energy Aura power set still bogs down my computer system.
I actually really enjoy this power set, but sadly I have to turn down the graphics options in order to play it.
Is there a "minimum FX" option in the works at the tailor? If not, can there be?
Please? -

Quote:Custom EBs are pretty good at smacking down a high level character. I'd just stick with a standard boss in the 5-10 range.I agree this sounds like fun and I have been working on an arc for this challenge. I am avoiding playing anyone else's arc until I finish mine so I have a question for you all.
For a level 5-10 arc, do you think the a final boss should be created as a boss or as an elite boss? -
Quote:If you follow the Lost/Rikti stories from level 10 all the way to 45 (and then on to the Lady Grey TF), you do actually get a fairly cohesive story involving that group. For CoH, I don't think there is one coherent story line as in CoV. My feeling is that the stories in CoH are to introduce you various mob groups, where they come from and what they are doing. Since the stories are about the mobs, not really about you as in CoV, I think it's not as immersive.
Other than that, I fully agree with you. -
Quote:I would fend you off with this:Do NOT give them any ideas.... because after they're done with me, I'll track you down and GET you!

Yes, it's as horrible as you could imagine.
(The college radio station I worked at had a copy.) -
Quote:I've been wanting them to do a pass on old content like this for some time. I can't imagine it'd be horribly difficult to remove the "go talk to the Security Chief" missions from the database. It would be a major step in streamlining some of the content and make the lower levels on the hero side a lot less painful.Yeah, this is easily some of the worst choices the game has to offer. I've redone the following tale several times now:
I'll get out of the Hollows at level 16, talk to a contact and I'll have to:
*Speak with the Bloody Bay representative in Skyway City
*Speak with Jim Temblor in Faultline
*Speak with the Hero Corps Field Analyst in Kings Row
*Speak with the Skyway City Security Chief
Before I can take any REAL missions. This needs to stop. It's stupid, inane design that has no reason to exist in the first place. -
I dunno...Yanni seems to be a little too crowd-pleasing. If I was in the mind to REALLY torture someone, I think I'd go with Zamfir, Master of the Pan Flute. Or maybe John Tesh. Or if I was feeling REALLY mean, Lady Gaga.

Glock's are nice, but I find them to be overpriced for what you get.
Also, if you're firing a semi-auto, do NOT allow the webbing between your thumb and trigger finger to be caught in the slide mechanism. There are few things that will bring tears to your eyes and four-letter words to your lips quicker than this. You may be wondering how I know this... -

Yep, too many good games coming out right now. I've been running through a mix of Dragon Age and Left For Dead 2. And now my internet connection is down until the stupid jerk cable company shows up with a new modem tomorrow..

It would totally be cool to run around as Generic 834 870 483 or Generic 438 033 112!

The one thing I'll give to the current Star Wars MMO is that when you were in a blaster fight it felt and sounded like something was happening. Maybe it was because the blasters sounded like they did in the movies and you could run and shoot at the same time. Maybe the combat mechanics weren't the best overall, but it was still kind of cool. Maybe it's the thought that Star Wars had more of a feel of the western gunslingers to it than Star Trek does.
Every Star Trek phaser fight basically has people standing stationary and shooting once with the phaser and dropping whatever they hit. That doesn't make for very dynamic ground combat, so I was hoping the ship battles would be a bit more epic. Cryptic has basically said that with big ships you have slower, plodding combat and that the ground combat would be more dynamic. Now that I've seen some footage of the ground combat, "dynamic" isn't exactly the word I'd use to describe it. -
Quote:I, too, am less than impressed with what I've seen so far. I had some hopes for this game but those have been quashed for now.Is STO's combat going to be more engaging than it looks on those videos, DC? I'm wondering if there is some kind of extra strategery that you can't see going on, as right now it looks like running around and firing phasers, whacking people with Klingon weapons, etc. Not much to it, and not very engaging.

I started Dragon Age last night. It took me about 2 hours just to get through the Mage origin story. I liked how there were two potential solutions to that whole quest, and in light of the revelations at the end of that story arc I'm glad I chose what I chose to do.
I think when I ended last night the first outpost you get to was just about to fight a huge battle (right after the Grey Warden induction ceremony -- LOL -- Grey Wardens iz serious bizness). I'm thinking this battle isn't going to end so well.
