  1. I did move a few characters from Victory and Guardian to Freedom, but that's only because my SG's "old folks home" moved to there. I probably won't play those toons any more on Freedom than I did when I moved them to Guardian (which was practically nil). It's all about opening up Victory slots for me.
  2. Most of the time I only auto-complete missions I was ALMOST finished with when the maintenance comes up. The rest of the time I have to be reminded that auto-complete even exists (yeah, I get stubborn, sometimes).

Okay, here's something I was thinking about on my way home today. As we all know, we're supposed to only make characters in this game that are 100% our own creations. As we also all know, not everyone does that... and sometimes, it's okay.
Fie and a pox on that. Almost every one of my characters is an homage of some sort, entirely on purpose. The key is to work with the archetype (the real word, not the game one) or trope that the original worked on. For example, Decorum is my "Superman". He's the big, strong tough guy that can fly, and I based his personality on the "Big Blue Boy Scout" aspect (given the name, he's very very polite). I much prefer not to make 100% my own characters, mostly because I have a ton of comic knowledge and I know that's next to impossible. So a familiar idea with a twist works great for me. And the GMs.

I give full credit for creating characters this way to Kurt Busiek and Astro City. I have a character named Headlong that's 90% Impulse. I have a Solomon Kane riff called Lamentation Payne. It's easy (and fun) once you get to the details.

I know I can't create Thor and it cheeses me off no end.

Not Marvel's Thor....the mythological Norse deity Thor, who has existed in legend since at least 1200 years before there even WAS such a thing as a trademark. Marvel has a trademark on his appearance, but there is NO WAY they can claim he is an original creation of theirs.

The name is completely blocked from anyone using it. Not taken, but actually blocked. If you try to use a name that someone else already hasthe message says "That character name is already in use". If the name is blocked the message says "That character name is unavailable"

There are a lot of things that shouldn't get genericed, but they do. Marvel wouldn't have a leg to stand on in a suit claiming that they own te name Thor, but NCSoft behaves as though they do.
Pish tosh, they're just covering their rears (who cares who would win a court battle, there just being one would be a disaster for NCSoft). Plenty of ways around it, especially Thor who had a dozen different names in as many countries. I give you The Mighty Thunor.

Nothing personal, this just makes my teeth hurt. It's Spider-Man. Capital S capital M and with a hyphen. Spiderman's the last name of some CPA named Irving or something.

I'd say that you may be a very odd human being(and I may be too). It takes very little for most people to be put off by something. To put it another way, it only takes one thing that rubs a certain part of most folks the wrong way for them to get annoyed with something.

In the type of society that we have to day, not getting what you want even just a little bit is often enough to make even grown people throw temper tantrums.
I used to have a wife like that.

    Used to.
  5. Concept primarily, although I've done it backwards plenty of times and made up a concept to go with a power I wanted to try.

What's most efficient or powerful is absolutely last on my list of criteria, and I even take sets and powers everyone else tells me "suck" just to check 'em out.

Wait...you can afford MIRACLES but you can't afford Doctored Wounds?

I call shenanigans. The Miracle: Heal IO routinely goes for 20 million. I have gotten an entire SET of Doctored Wounds for less.
A quick look at the market and I'll bet I know how I'm doing it without actually checking my builds. The price on that drops CONSIDERABLY at 36 and below...like down to 5 mill and then down to 2 mill and I saw some 1 mill/100ks back and forths below that. I buy them as I come up slowly and don't bother to max them out. I'm only really after them for the bonuses.

I could have sworn Doctored Wounds were more expensive, though. But then as noted, my market sense is still about six months out of whack. This may be time to respec some of my higher toons.
  7. Blue-side the first Midnighter arc can be run from level 10 up, but it's not a time-travel arc and you don't get the portal power for it. Red-side I have no idea. I know that one starts further up and I haven't done any of them over there.

EDIT: Oh, duh. THE first one that can starts at 20, you said. Maybe I'll learn to read someday.

Well, I haven't done it in quite some time (I'm a couple of months back from having six months off with a busted computer). Are you talking about IOs or recipes? I rarely ever buy IOs, I make everything. The markets may have changed considerably.
  9. Awww, you poor thing. Happy birthday and have some moar cake!

    Horatio?
  10. Hee, well he was definitely a mocking character. It's not like I play him. I think he's all the way up to level 4 after 4 years.

If you measure it "per attack" then you are correct.

If you measure it over time, then you are not.

You first have to line up Sands properly to hit multiples. The recharge for GSA is so far below SoM that you can do as much damage in a given amount of time.
All true enough, but since neither is really meant to be one of your primary attacks, I really don't let "over time" enter into it. I don't use either on a constant basis, just when it fits. And I get a personal thrill out of a nicely lined up cone attack of any kind ("HAHAHAHAHA! GOT YOU ALL!").

True, also. I did say it wasn't exactly useless.
  12. I think the arousal part is just a modern misunderstanding. The image that pops up most, I think, is that of a southern belle flapping her hand fan and saying "Why suh, I do believe you are giving me the vapuhs!" What the words would literally (EDIT: No, not literally exactly...can't think of the proper word) read as is "Sir, your romantic/sexual advances are shocking me to the point of fainting dead away.", but she's using the term coyly, almost sarcastically to actually mean the opposite of what she's saying, hence "aroused". I suspect the person who wrote the arousal part you found was merely confused by such a usage.
  13. Here, this is the etymology.

Of course that only speaks to the origin of the phrase, not its most common usage. By the time the 18th and 19th century rolled around (the times I've found it more commonly associated with), we were pretty sure fainting spells weren't caused by farts.
  14. I'm disappointed that not once do I get to catch a damsel falling from the sky, but I don't think that would even be possible to code. Some concessions must be made.

But, yeah, they could shake things up a bit more than they do. And maybe they will with GR.

Red Valkyrja has one small aspect:

No, it's not, those are 'spells', vapors refers to flatulence.
While there are occasions of "the vapors" meaning swooning from "bad air" (usually more a reference to menses than flatulence), it was more commonly an emotional reaction (or "hysteria") to something.

Also the cool band that did "Turning Japanese".
  16. Heh, timers. I still remember doing my first timed mission and being nervous about it, and finishing it with well over an hour to spare.
  17. There are many who would say posting at all on a superhero MMORPG message board would be proof enough.

    Leo_G has a weird dictionary:

Vapors. Steamy. Apply that connotation to a person. Think 'hot and bothered' but milder >_>
That isn't actually what it means. It usually had to do with someone being shocked or embarrassed into a swoon, not being horny. Although tight corsets are more to blame than anything.

  20. It's sad that the regular costume designer can't quite "do" Liefeld. This was as close as I could come (granted, it was '06 so I might be able to do better now). His name is DethBludStryke.

Ghost Slaying Axe only does moderate damage to one target.

Sands of Mu does high damage to multiple targets.

That's enough for me, right there.

Although I will take it if it's "in character". It's not like it's useless.
