Irony +10. Extra +5 if you don't know why.

    That is all.

    EPIC POST!

I like the squared-up travel tray, Willowpaw.

I'm totally adopting (ok, stealing) that set-up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I, too, did not know this could be done.

    Consider it stolen.
  3. Wow, I had no idea so many people still click.

I'm running 1024x768 and it KILLS ME. The minute I get some spare cash I am getting a widescreen LCD.

On my most complex characters, I have 2 trays open at all times. I have never found a need for more yet.

I use what I think is a clever bind for my defender.
    /bind q "powexectoggleon maneuvers$$powexectoggleon tactics$$powexectoggleon hover$$powexecauto hasten"
Because a bind always executes the last power in a chain like that, it'll toggle on hover the first time I press it, tactics the next time, and maneuvers after that. This ensures that if a toggle ever drops I toggle them back on in order of importance without ever having to see them in the tray.

Mastermind uses Q, Alt+Q, and Ctrl+Q to summon, E and Alt+E to equip/upgrade. If I have flight, T is toggle fly and G is toggle hover. If I have Teleport, shift+left click teleports me, T is TP friend and team chat.

When I saw the Fang game pad a little voice inside screamed for joy. This is now on my wishlist.
  4. Hey, just a random silly question. Why can't we pick up these quantum guns? Surely some mob along the way died/was arrested with minimal damage to the blaster! I mean, it would make the Imperious Task Force a little bit easier.
  5. I'm pretty sure this isn't the optimal way to play. Actually, I know it's not. There's a lot of times I hit the "Next tray" arrow instead of the first power and likely end up dying as a result. I just can't seem to get my fingers used to reaching up to hit the 1 through 5 buttons with any kind of accuracy. For some of my most used powers, I have binds on q, e, t, g, v, and c, but those powers are usually the things I don't want in a tray, like fly and leadership pool powers, or pet summons. I just started a kheldian (yay 50 club) and I know I'll be using the q and e keys for shapeshifting binds.

What are better ways to play? Should I force myself to use the number buttons? I've heard of using the numpad, but I don't want to take my hand off the mouse.
  6. First question I can help with. Yes, you can set an LT as a "boss fight." It's a great way to add dialog into the mission. Make a non-required boss fight, pick an LT as the boss, don't put navigation text, and now you have a talking spawn that's not overly difficult.

I really like this! This would be much better than Team Teleport as a top tier power.

Here's hoping that the Devs hear about this and agree, but even if they replace TT with this BT idea, Kheldians being locked out of the TP pool would never get this unless it was somehow coupled with Dwarf, and if it were just a Dwarf-ability, that wouldn't be available to Human-only Kheldians who I think will benefit from it the most...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Good point. Hmm...

HEY DEV'S! Stop what you're doing! Just listen for a min-

    STOP TOUCHING THE KEYBOARD!

Ok, get to work on this right now. Forget MA, forget Going Rogue. Pfft. Who needs that stuff? We want battle teleport instead of team teleport, and we want it to be available to Kheldians in human and dwarf forms.

I find that using TP as a travel power is fun for the outdoors and as a good way to surprise mobs or engage several groups one after the other when trying to herd'em.

Only thing I dislike about TP is the hover right after you materialize at your destination.

What I'd like to see is something like Battle TP, which would let me mark up to 3 spots on the floor (in a certain range, of course) and have 3 hot-keys, each bound to its corresponding marker. While fighting, you could use each of the 3 hot-keys to appear at each of the locations marked and automatically turn to face the NPC you are still targeting.

I know it'd just be an approximation of what Nightcrawler can do, but I imagine it'd be a lot of fun and make TP a lot more dynamically usable in a fight, the Endurance usage mind you would probably have to be quite heavy so that the power doesn't become a blatant abuse.

  9. I just made it to the blue-side 50 club, and have already started a warshade. I've got a pretty good plan for what I want to do with him, but I have questions about a peacebringer.

Since the i13 update, I hear that the cosmic balance works in forms? How much of an effect does this really have?

Does it make it a lot easier to become "exactly what the team needs" because your tank form tanks better with offensive players and nova form blast better with defensive players?

Is it common to use cosmic balance to make a high damage tank or a really resistant blaster?

I hear that WS are usually tri-form and shift very often to get all the bonuses. Should a PB be built to shift often, or are they more of a "pick a form and stick with it" kind of AT?

Is it worthwhile to make a PB on a high population server (like Freedom) for better chances to team?

    Thanks everyone!
  10. So this will be Saturday, June 13th, 9PM to 12PM if you're on the east coast, right?

    I hate timezones.

Could you edit the initial post to include the date?
  11. I've been away from CoH for a long time, and I come back to find that they've redone the text system.

I remember how you used to have to <color red><bgcolor black> before your chat to make it the colors you wanted. The annoying thing was binding your enter key to talk correctly. The cool thing seemed to be that you could have macros use those colors too.

Now my macros work anymore. They actually say "<color red><bgcolor black>Hello." when they should be saying "Hello." with red font and a black background.

Is there still a way to bind/macro chat in different colors?
  12. I've always wanted to give the roleplay thing a try. I'd write up detailed backgrounds and have a thorough history for each character thought out, but there weren't a lot of people on my server that seemed to appreciate it. Or I just couldn't find the right people. Since I only recently found out that Virtue tends to be the roleplay server, I started my newest character there.

I want to dive into this, so I'm taking a "go big or go home" approach. I want to remain in character as much as possible. The character I made is one of my favorites.

I guess what I'm asking for is some general guidelines. I didn't see any "rules" to roleplaying. Does staying in character ever start to annoy people, even in a team of RPers? Are certain channels "supposed" do be in character? Obviously local, but what about team, broadcast, and tells?

EDIT: How do you usually go about finding a team? Can you still broadcast things like "Level 6 Warshade LFT?"

How are MA missions handled? Is it usually taken as the Dev's reasoning that it's a video game, or do you play like it's a "real mission" from a "real contact"?

EDIT 2: Ok, so I found the Idiot's guide to RP on the virtue board. Boy do I feel like an idiot. It doesn't answer everything, but I think it gives me enough of an idea to get started.
  13. I just got my first character, Kinetic Tut, to 50!

I leveled up in the middle of, and a result of, a fulcrum shifted nova.

I think I started my first Kinetics character after being dully impressed with how easy it made those PP's. Too bad not many people fight in hazard zones anymore, those were good times.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know, after I pulled off my first "Fulcrum Shift, Nova, pop a blue, Transferrence and continue fighting" combo I swore I'd never go back to playing a regular blaster. I absolutely love kinetics.

Obviously, it only works best with melee in the team. Blappers and the like included. It really shines in a team with three tankers and four scrappers. I could keep them all healed and riding at their damage cap.

Didn't Kinetic Tut used to run in teams killing Paragon Protectors in Crey's Folly circa-I2/3?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yup! That sounds like me. I do have the protector badge. I was around since the beginning, quit for a while, came back for CoV, quit again, and now I should be back to stay.

    Thanks everyone.

    I guess I should mention I'm @Dechs Kaison

    Looking forward to the teaming!
  17. Dechs Kaison

    I'm BAAACK!

But no one remembers me anyway.

My main hero is Kinetic Tut, a kinetics defender (I shouldn't have needed to say that). I last played him around I6, and apparently a lot has changed. I notice I'm not in a supergroup, can't blame them, I was inactive for so long. I don't even think I can remember the name of it. I went up a quick few levels this past week or so and realized all my SO's went red. I went from healing 500hp to under 300, and I can't hit a bloody thing. I had a free respec, so I respec'd and sold all my SO's that weren't doing anything anyway. With 20 million influence, I ran to the the university and wentworth's for a crash course in making common IO's. I'm now *almost* fully outfitted with lvl 45 common IO's and ready to get back into the game.

I already remember how much I love the Mass Hypno, Fulcrum Shift, Nova attack chain.

So anyway, the whole point to this was to find some friends and maybe a supergroup I can hang out with. I'm not a super hardcore roleplayer, but I develop a backstory on all my characters (Yes, even Kinetic Tut has a justified background) and I enjoy a little bit of RP. It's also time I finished the drive to 50 to get myself a Kheldian.

Anything else I need to get caught up to speed on?

EDIT: I'm also a great deal more of a forum junkie than I used to be. I used to be the "Forums? We don't need no stinking forums!" kind of kid. You should see me on these forums a lot more often now.

I think the OP said that he played Villains when it came out, so he had access to Plant on that side.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, and I did make a plant dominator as one of my first villains. I liked him a lot, but didn't get too far with it because I fell in love with masterminds. I made one of every flavor, but liked my Bot/FF the most. I felt invincible, especially once I got the panic button.

I started playing the troller a little heavier lately, and quickly realized all his SO's were yellow. I did a respec and pretty much sold them all off to have the cash to make IO's. I didn't realize how expensive IO's could be... I think I'm going to have to exemp for a loooong time.
  19. Wow, ok... so that's for villains too I'm guessing? I don't see why villains would have a different server, except to keep from buying new character slots...

I've pretty much made up my mind, though. Virtue must be where it's at.
  20. This is really two questions. Actually, three.

    1. What server has the most RP players? (probably virtue or freedom because they have the most players in general)

    2. What server has the highest concentration of RP players?

    3. Is there a "RP server" at all? I know there aren't any official ones, but is there a particular server people go to for RP? (I guess this is the same as question 2...)
  21. Thanks everyone!

I realize what happened. I played CoH from I1 to I4. Then I took some time off.

I got back into it a little after CoV came out, played for 4 months, and didn't touch my controller.

A year later, I come back to CoX in all its glory (Yes, I still think it's an amazing game even after all the changes) and pick up my old troller. I thought it had only been a year, but it's been MUCH longer.

Again, thanks everyone, you've really helped. This is such a 'heroic' community.
  22. Oh no, the joke is that he's not joking.

    I'm laughing.
  23. Specifically, if I make an arc with an AV, what difficulty converts him to an EB?

In the same way, will an EB ever convert to a regular boss?

And in reverse, will an EB ever "convert up" to an AV on max difficulty/team size?
  24. Ok, this is exactly what I needed! Thank you!

I'm agreeing with you on the story stuff, I need to reword a lot to make more sense out of it. Reading this also makes me see that my "hero" is a bit more neutral aligned. At first I was just thinking "take out the big bad guy... must be heroic."

The Thorns were used as a generic group that might have interest in magical relics. Perhaps they could have been lied too and stole something they thought was important? Maybe Dechs could have used some sort of extortion on them? "I stole this from you, get this for me and you get it back."

I made Tut an LT because of some advice stating that you don't want an ally to be a show stealer. I'm not trying to say my hero's better than yours, so I made sure he wasn't.

The cave map: Huh, I didn't know there were "new" cave maps. I have been out of CoH/V for over a year, just recently started playing again. I'll definitely change this.
