Quote:This may be the worst rule #1 for a MM possible. It's so bad, I'm not even going to bother countering it...
1. rule number 1 - never take personal attacks. reason is simple, if you draw agro you'll probably die. besides you will be busy enough with setting all the devices you have at your disposal.
If the OP, or anyone else, is interested in the "why", then search for "tankermind" in the forums.
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Tankermind -
I said this in my prior post and I'll say it again:
Quote:You have 6 slots in FFG. That's fine if you're going to do 3 Def, 1 LOTGs +7.5Rch, 1 Karma -kb and 1 Kismet +ToHit IOs. I have a feeling that's not the case.Force Field Generator only NEEDS 3 slots (all for Defense), however it is a good place to add in some of the nicer IOs, such as a Karma -kb.
FFG recharges extremely quickly and isn't too prohibitively expensive, endurance wise. So I reiterate to use only 3 slots, unless you get those other IOs. -
Bots/Traps is absolutely doable without Fitness. However if the OP is new to the game, then Stamina would be helpful. It's my opinion Staminaless play requires a bit more advanced tactics.
If you get to 49 w/o Super Speed, you probably can do without it period. Also 4 slotting SS is something you won't want to do, unless you have a reason so do so (PVP, for example). I'd try to take it (and Hasten) before level 40 because Grandville is not a friendly place for a first-time level 40. SS at least will give some stealth. Otherwise, you'll see a lot of this - Webnate > Placate > Assassination > hosp.
Triage Beacon would be more effective with more slots, at least 5, to ED cap Heal and Recharge.
Force Field Generator only NEEDS 3 slots (all for Defense), however it is a good place to add in some of the nicer IOs, such as a Karma -kb.
Hasten also should have no more than 3 slots (for Recharge).
You also might want to throw in a couple more slots into Tactics for To-Hit enhancers. Not a big deal.
Bots/Traps is, in my experience, a very potent combo. As far as I'm concerned, once you take the 3 sets of bots, the 2 upgrades, Poison Trap, Acid, FFG, Triage, and Seekers, you've got a heckuva toon and anything else is "season to taste". -
My response to "should I skip Triage?" is "what are you taking that you think is better?"
I personally think of Traps as the big game hunter in this game (not looking for a debate on "who's the best debuffer"). Triage fits very well into that, especially when a build with decent recharge can have 2 out for a bit. I'd never skip it. -
Quote:Good way to put it. I'd love to see some CoX pact, one where all players that teamed would take Maneuvers and add 2 slots for Def. Heck, even just taking Assault would improve most all teams (obvious exception of the team with a Kin that manages to FS an entire team and keep it up).The Leadership powers are like CoH's own Prisoner's Dilemma. They're okay by themselves, but great if everyone has them. But since not everyone has them, few people take them to realize their greatness.
Personally I have my own pact that I adhere to, where all of my VEATs, Defs and Corrs take at least 2 Leadership, trollers and MMs have at least 1. Blasters and Doms I try to sneak in Assault. Meleers sometimes take Maneuvers, but not always. -
I couldn't agree more. I was about to suggest Bots/TA for the thread about "highest damage" MM, but then I noticed the "/most survivable" part, which /TA probably is not.
However, it IS outstanding damage, especially when it's OSA lighting over Disruption and Acid. It's just a hoot and a holler.
I also agree about Storm. You can cut loose and use your powers however the heck you want with a MM. Never once has a minion said "stop ur kb plz" -
This happens to be a current leveling character for me. I dig the combo. Now at 38, with EMP Arrow, there's every spawn lockdown ability, along with Cinders and Flashfire.
Quote:1. As mentioned previously, yes.First, about the debuffs from flash arrow and smoke:
1. Do the to hit debuffs stack with each other for a approx. 15% to hit debuff when slotted?
2. I have seen in patch notes from a while back that a part of the effect did not require a to hit check, was that the -perception and/or the to hit debuff?
2. Smoke definitely does not require a to-hit check. Flash Arrow takes accuracy enhancements though. From that I'm inferring that something needs a to-hit roll. My guess would be that -percep is auto and the -tohit requires the check. I base that on being able to Flash Arrow a large spawn and position myself very close to them. I don't draw subsequent aggro, which I'd expect if -percep missed somebody.
Quote:Will hot feet and the other AoEs automatically set off oil slick if it is exposed or is it as unpredictable to set off as I have heard with other sets?
Quote:Is it very survivable in the 20s - 30s solo ( missions set at +1, and set for two or three players) without set defense bonuses? -
I think Dual Pistols would be interesting. You could either
a) Combine -DMG with +RES to further decrease the damage your team takes
b) Stack -Res with -Res to increase your team's damage
You could choose, on demand, whether your team needs more protection (a) or just wants to go faster (b). -
Quote:Another bane of the Plant user - Tactics. From a Dom perspective, you really have to pay attention. You can get in a good flow against Longbow, but then run into a Warden with Tactics and then no one gets confused and you go splat. The WORST though are any enemies that happen to have Steamy Mists. I have only ever run into that in the AE, so its rare. But that power gives -8.65% AoE Confusion, 40ft range (i.e. 15 feet bigger than Disperion Bubble). Put two of those guys in a stack and the mob might as well be immune to Confusion.
Force Field and really anything that grants positional or lethal defense should also possibly be mentioned as an annoyance. It doesn't reduce the Confusion mag but it does make it harder to hit. Mainly a problem when you're up against +3s or +4s. The other Confusion powers (in Mind and Illusion) ignore positional defense so they bypass Force Field completely, and Ice's Arctic Air power is auto-hit (with a random 30% chance to Confuse that is completely unrelated to To Hit rolls, level, or defense). -
If I ever joined a team where a Kinetic said "Ask for SB and then thank me for it" then I could not hit the "quit team" button fast enough.
On the flip side, I have no tolerance, when playing a kin, for the "sb plz" crowd either.
The exception to my "don't thank buffers" rule is Emps with AB. I'm a downright butt-kisser to them, sending tells expressing my appreciation. -
I did the first mission of the Midnighter access arc yesterday with a MM. Set for bosses, every spawn has one. Not that it particularly matters, but this was a Thugs/Poison MM at +2/1. Against Agony and Ruin mages, or whatever other mages they have, no big deal. The Succubus though, usually was a real fight. They have some nasty AOE that can devastate the Punks/Arsonist and the Placate/Confuse is a nightmare. I do have Assault and Tactics which at least offer resists to that Placate/Confuse. That only helps if I live long enough to survive my Bruisers KO Blow.
When I think about all my MMs (and I have all primaries and secondaries to 50 [working on DS at the moment]), it seems like Storm and perhaps FF are best equipped to deal with them. Both because I can just keep flopping her around with Gale/Hurricane or Force Bolt. The rest of my MMs seem to rely on getting lucky or having to chew Break Frees.
So, Im looking for tactics people have to minimize the threat Succubi present to MMs. I cant think of any enemy that is as problematic to an AT as these ladies are to MMs. -
Just throwing in my 2 inf that it's Traps, then a sizable gap to Rad and Cold, which are pretty close together with Dark just a smidge behind those two (maybe).
-
I never thought about it before, but yeah, I'm a temp junkie. When presented a choice of contacts from a broker/detective, I check Red Tomax to see if
a) Contact has an accolade badge
b) has a very useful temp power
c) has any kind of temp power
before making a decision. -
Quote:The worst case I've seen was someone in one of my SGs (I'm a few over several servers) that was a Plant/Emp that was a "pure healer" that took the Spirit Tree who said "I just concentrate on healing". I said "Oh you don't use Seeds?" "No". I then bit my tongue for collegiality. I didn't want to say the obvious "If you use Seeds, there would be no need for healing".I'm not anti-healer at all. I just get annoyed with people who think any other kind of defender is useless.
If you have a Dark Miasma defender (or corruptor even) on the team, chances are a healer would be completely redundant.
The worst case I ran across: Empathy defender who took the Medicine pool, so he could have TWO rezzes. He didn't even HEAL people, he just let them die and rezzed them. I kicked that guy off the team, and I'm usually pretty patient with other people's playstyles. If all you're going to do is stand around until someone dies.....sorry, but you're useless. -
Quote:Thank you for insight. I realize this wasn't an "easy" issue to deal with, PR-wise. For what it's worth I think you came to a good decision. The process was more like this:
Get bug report: GreenMito is broken
Look at it and see it is broken because it's powers are going off even when held.
Look at hold protection, realize it is perma-holding itself.
Fix that to match original design doc.
Fix Cast Despite Being Held issue.
Test that it uses powers when not held
Test that it stops using powers when held
Check in changes. -
Quote:Well, we can all wait until the Winter event begins again and all get the hold power. So instead of "Let's go get some nukes and Shivs", you'll hear "time to run LGTF, but first... Snaptooth!"
So let me get this straight: If my team does the LGTF and does NOT have a hero that has a Hold power (i.e. a Controller), then the whole TF is a failure??? -
I hate to engage in "piling it on" but the thought process is perplexing to me.
With dozens of bugs introduced with the i17 launch, while working on one particular issue, the developer noticed an attribute that had been live for what, 3 years now, didn't match the design spec. At this point, 2 options seem to be
1) Make a note of this as something to be examined later, once the game is stabilized a bit more
2) Ram it in there with (seemingly) no regard to actual gameplay
And they went with 2)???
Now we hear "If needed (and judging by reactions, it probably is) I'll drop the protection some in a future update" so we're actually getting some weird hybrid of 1) and 2) above, the worst of both worlds.
Well, if anyone on Infinity or Virtue wants to run LGTF, I have a perma-dom on both servers that should be able to hold a green by themselves. I'll join for say, 10M per run, subject to change due to market conditions. -
My /FF troller is Gravity. Mostly because I'm now at the point in my CoX career that I ask "what would happen if I loaded up on cage and intangibility powers?" and make such a char to find out.
The combo gives a lot of tools to knock things down and around. I dunno, I'm by no means saying it's my answer for "Best Primary for FF" but it fits thematically and can work. -
This is #1 on my proliferation "wish list" too.
-
I just have to ditto the suggestion for Storm. Out of my controller collection, my Earth/Storm is the best I have at pure control. I can see why Earth/TA would be comparable, but I don't have one of those.
Actually I still give the edge to Storm over TA just for the Stalagmites + Thunderclap combo gives you a quick 1-2 combo to shut down everybody. -
Hot diggity! Thanks Gob. The item was indeed in the in-box of the original sender.
Suggestion withdrawn! -
Let me get this part over with - yes, I had an "oopsie" with a high value item. Call me noob, whatever. Moving on...
My suggestion is, when someone deletes an e-mail with an attachment, they see a "are you sure you want to delete?" pop-up box that requires them to select yes or no. This type of box pops up in many other cases in the game. Please do so for deleting e-mails with attachments too. -
Quote:Well let's look at that from a "glass half full" perspective. Or more precisely, a glass 70% full. All the proc needs is to hit on 1 mob. I'll trust your math and say that a 31% to miss all 10 targets means there's a 69% chance to hit at least one to fire off the proc. Again, that's a 69% chance the proc fires when using the Psi Tornado. That's awesome and well worthwhile. You'd think so, but actually a 10% proc hitting a group of ten enemies will fail to go off entirely about a third of the time. Don't believe me? Get out your old calculator.
90% of the time the first guy won't proc. 90% of those times, the next guy won't proc, and 90% of those times the next guy won't, and so on. So on your old calculator, start with .9, and multiply it by .9, and multiply it by .9 again until you've multiplied ten .9s together. The result is 0.31 and change, or a 31% chance that your ten 10% chances to proc all fail.
(This, of course, assumes that you hit them all. Since any attack has a 5% chance to miss, you'll miss at least one of the ten fairly often, and you're sure not procing off those guys.)
Now, that doesn't mean Force Feedback proc in Psionic Tornado is a bad idea, of course - but it's not a remotely reliable or consistent boost, just a nice benefit when it works. -
Quote:It may be a style preference, but I'm a huge fan of it. If I find myself in a tricky (no pun intended) situation (2 spawns for example) I can Flash the one I don't want aggrod. There are other uses. I wouldn't slot it much for -ToHit though, except whatever you happen to get when slotting something like Cloud Senses.
Is Flash Arrow even worth a power slot however? -
Quote:Are you saying Poison GAS Trap is interruptible? I can't tell if you're saying "(an interrupt power like trip mine) and PGT" or if you're saying "an interrupt power like (trip mind and PGT)". Cause PGT ain't interruptible.
No offence intended but how the hell do you place in interupt power like trip mine and poison trap whilst you are getting pummelled by the ones seeker drones miss? FFG is good, but its not that good.
Quote:Poison Trap is only useful for AV's
