Given an above post, I will retract the term "extremely short" duration. I didn't time it and made that comment based on it "feeling" short, even if it was the normal duration. Mainly my prior post was to correct the info that the patron AVs could not be caged.
-
Quote:I'm speaking from firsthand experience that the patron AVs can be caged. I have done it and seen the unaffected message above their head. It had an extremely short duration.Does not work, don't know why. The AV goes right on healing. Also does not cage the "Fab Four" in the STF. Again don't know why. Against other AVs in the game, it works great.
In both the ITF and the STF, power boosted bubbles for the team are what has a very noticeable effect. -
FFG = 15%, Prot bubbles are 11ish, when all are slotted up. Mystery solved? Toons don't start off with IO bonsus, after all.

I'd like to have a dialog with the "Old Woman" in Cim that has her say "Man" and "I'm 37, not old" and "You could just call me Dennis"
I'd like for Technician Naylor to mention that his best shirt only has 2 curry stains.
Any time you rescue Melanie Haber and Betty Jo Bialosky, that they say something about how you may have known her as Nancy or Susan Underhill. I do give props though, that the mission dialog with the detective does usually say something about "you may have known her as Nancy". -
Terrify is Mind's bread and butter, up every spawn form of aoe crowd control. If you're soloing you can substitute Mass Hypnosis easily for your every spawn control. If you team, I wouldn't advise skipping it.

1) It's not possible
2) You don't
3) Once
Unless you're asking about the patron powers, you can select new patron powers any time you do a respec. However, you can't choose a new patron and do their arc and get their badge. -
I made a /FF troller just to answer this question. Made her Grav/FF so I could have 2 detention/intangible powers.
My official rating of those abilities - meh.
What I was able to do that made me think "that was cool":
Cage a tower on the STF that my team was not fighting
Cage (for a brief time) one of the patrons on the STF when fighting more than 1.
Make Intangible a bunch of surgeons on the ITF (who were standing out of aoe kill-zone)
Cage the healing nictus (don't think it was for long)
Those are the good things. In no way did I "save the day" or "turn the tide" by using these. If anything, by caging a patron I slowed down the aoe damage he was taking. Also if your ITF team is dealing so little damage to overcome the healing nictus, you're probably better off using other tactics (pulling it away).
If you're looking for a power pick that you don't want to slot and you something else isn't more obviously useful, then hey, what the heck? On the other hand if you're weighing Detention vs something else you think is useful, I'd bet that something else would be better.
My 2 inf, nothing more. -
Quote:"every situation"??? I can barely be bothered to respond to such a ludicrous statement (but here it is). Are you really going to suggest Dark Miasma "brings more to the table" for an AV/Hero/GM fight? Think about that before responding, really think about it.Not really. A /dark brings more to the table in every situation. I have both.
Traps was OP, to those that slotted PGT with procs, pre-i13. Now it's a lot more than merely "nice". -
Uh... lolz? I hope that was a joke. I'm not going to debate the Trick Arrow part, but Traps.... don't bring as much???? You just have got to be kidding. A trapper will be far more useful for high end content than... any of the others.
-
I also question 3 slows in Quicksand. I'd switch 2 of them to Recharge.
My Earth/Fire is at about the same point, level 37.
I'll probably go into the Soul Mastery pool so I have a total of 2 Build-Ups. -
My first vill 50 was a Thugs/FF. Soon after hitting 50, I made a Merc/Traps. Traps actually made me angry that I chose FF. FFG provides more Def for you than Dispersion bubble.
No, a trapper can't create as much def for the minions as a bubbler, but the upside (sorry for throwing in a sports metaphor) for traps is so much higher. The bubbler can "walk through missions", true. However if that mission has a hero/AV at the end, it's the trapper that can say "let's do this".
Bottom line, what FF offers (safety from Def and use of kb), Traps offers too (no kb), just not quite as much. The other bag of goodies in Traps (-Dmg, -Regen, +Regen, Slows, Immob and a kaboom) make it incomparable to FF.
Although it may sound like it, I'm no FF hater, in fact this Thugs/FF is one of my "signature" characters (I should put him in my sig I guess). Bots/FF will be powerful and you'll do your missions with no issues whatsoever. Your question though, is "which would work better from a synergy perspective?" and I'm tempted to say "all of the others". But seriously, the easy answer(s) to that is Traps and Dark. -
Mondays eh? I have an old school Frad ST vet on Freedom. I'll pop in when I can to see if you have a spot, to relive the memories.

This tf is the only task in the game on my "never again" list. After all the grind, the last mission is enormously disappointing.
I'm a comics fan (which is why I play the game at all) and what gets me most geeked up is the cosmic stuff, Silver Surfer, Galactus, Green Lantern Corps, that kind of thing. So I expect the Shard tfs to somewhat be at a cosmic level. Instead, the last mission has you fighting "those guys" on "that map".
I actually like that the Rularuu are tough and aren't easy "tank and spank" fodder.
So, I have nothing more to say really, than "ditto". Revamp the shard. Make it cosmic -
I sometimes use my lvl 49 power choice to "take the road less travelled". For one of my kins I took Repel just to see firsthand what it's about. I was pleasantly surpised at the tactical options it opened up. I was most pleased on an STF, using it as a means to disrupt the repairmen. Sadly, there are other powers that do it better, but if you don't have Hot Feet (for example) on your team, then Repel will do.
On my IO respec though, I did get rid of it.
I do like this thread and would like to see more discussions about useful ways to employ less popular powers. -
The Rikti resistances to Energy is limited to some Lts and bosses. I farm Borea with an elec/elec and I think the energy resist is the same as smash and/or lethal for those mobs. If I were to make a Brute just for Borea, I'd go Fire/Elec.
-
I just want to focus on 2 ports:
Traps for Controllers
Thermal for Defenders
Most all the prior suggestions I'd welcome too, but these are the two I REALLY want to see happen. -
I only have the Martial Arts pack. I love it but I see nothing from the other packs that are of interest to me. I'm not too enticed by the new one either. Secondary mutation sounds cool, but the risk of turning into a Rikti monkey is one I'm not willing to take.

Black Scorpion taunts... if you happen to take his patron arc. I suppose that's a problem if you don't want your pets attacking him. And you don't have Assault (which has taunt/placate resists).
So yeah... worthless. -
45 is the softcap. Are you asking how close is 45 to 45?
-
My Traps/DP is 36 now. So far I'm using Toxic for -dmg on teams, Fire for my own +dmg solo. Hella fun, I have to say.
My first Trap Def was /Elec, which is nothing special with Traps.
Ice is nice. That was a Corr I made, not Def, but with the holds and slows, I'd say it's one of the better pairings for Traps. -
I find that Short Circuit begs to be frankenslotted with IOs from PBAOE and End Mod sets.
You can mix and match to get solid amounts of Accuracy, Damage, Recharge and End Mod using doubles and triples. Don't underestimate SC's damage, it's not too far behind Ball Lightning. -
Quote:For not knowing what I was asking, you answered my question.
Not quite sure what you are asking, but if you mass hypnosis a spawn and miss 1, and then mesmerize the missed mob then yes, you have effectively aggroed the spawn.
I've done this a few times, but have never used Mesmerize as a backup for missed heros. Most of the time, I get them with the 2nd MH. Sometimes though...the team gets a surprise Phalanxer (very rare). -
While on the topic of sleeping the PhalanxÂ…
In this thread, people mention using Mesmerize if Mass Hypnosis misses one. Mesmerize will draw agro. If I use Mesmerize on someone MH misses, is only the enemy I hit with Mes aggrod or are his/her neighbors aggrod as well?
I assume that after using Mesmerize, that NPC will stay mad at you throughout the ordeal, if MH happens to miss another time. -
I never ever skip the patron arcs. I want all of my villains to be able to start the LRSF. Also, this is as close to RP as I get, but defeating Recluse is a rite of passage all of my vills go through, not just to unlock the tf, but to put an exclamation mark on their leveling "career".

Quote:And you don't understand the mechanics of bodyguard mode. No really, you don't.
so if you want agro for yourself you just didn't understand the mechanics of /traps.
