Thanks for your input everybody. It occurred to me that I currently have both powers. One of them I use every spawn, one I use sporadically, for very long fights. Quicksand is what I use all the time and Snow Storm rarely.
Also after this respec he'll have a smidge over 45% s/l def and perma Clarion, so he doesn't use squishy tricks like corner pulling with toggle debuffs.
Therefore... Quicksand is the winnah! -
Sleet was obviously a typo that I edited, as I only mentioned it one time, so dropping Sleet was never an option.
Snow Storm effects is an issue though, maybe enough to justify QS. -
I have a 1 power selection I can give 1 slot to on my Earth/Cold. I'm struggling to decide whether tis better to go with Quicksand or SnowStorm.
I'm inclined to go SS because of the -Rch, which Quicksand doesn't have. Also SS + Sleet will pretty much cap -run debuff. But SS is a toggle costing more endurance. If anyone has a compelling argument for Quicksand over Snow Storm, lemme hear it... -
I'm a bit surprised to see no mention of a fire/rad, either the corr or troll variety. Once upon a time, before incarnates, I would imagine this would have been one of the first suggestions for farming (capable, if not the fastest), AV/GM soloing and solo TFing.

My question to all is, why would you pick a bubbler defender over any other defender build out there?
Quote:wanna try it out -
I just wanted to point out there's a demon/storm thread on the first page of the MM forum. if you want to see what's been recently discuss.
It looks like you're 14 (maybe 15), just make sure your next power selection is Freezing Rain. "It gets better". -
2 more days!
I want to give special "woot" to having Alannon and Heat Stroke along for the ride, both old-school STers. It was Alannon's Traps team a few years ago that showed me that a super-team doesn't have to be a super high pressure event. We tend to maintain that mellower style.
I'm still being wishy-washy at the moment. I'm 80% sure I'll make a Dark/ Tank, with an Ice/Dark corr in reserve if I notice a surplus of tanks on day 1. -
I think this just may a candidate for worst primary/secondary pairing. A bit of resists on top of a smidge of defense with no heals. I foresee a LOT of resummoning for anyone that makes one of these.
-
I just watched this episode last night. I'm glad the producers realize what the Veronica Mars producers realized as well - when Charisma Carpenter is on the show, get a pool for a set and put her in a bikini. Just spectactular... and she's 41!

"Finally! Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans together in their epic superhero glory, battling alien soldiers in The Avengers." -
I definitely think some parameters need to be established to best answer this.
Best buffs for a single target? As mentioned before that has to be Empathy, due to AB.
For a small team it may still be Empathy, at least a high-recharge Emp that can Fort everybody and have the RAs up frequently.
For a large team a mega recharge Emp can still be a great buffer. There are Emps that can Fort 7 teammates, though it takes a heckuva investment.
As far as FF compared to the other sets... a lot's been said over the years, passionately at times. FF brings tons of a defense, which is a very good thing. However, it really doesn't bring anything else (some kb, repel and a decent aoe knockdown attack) and those other things it brings don't "force multiply" team damage, whether through +dmg or -res. Further, at the high end a lot of builds (not all, by any means, not even a majority) have created a lot of +Def for themselves. Add to that the other sets that bring +Def (Traps, VEATS, Cold for example) and it's quite possible you'll find your +Def redundant.
My own experience, from leveling up a FF Def years ago, was that from level 12-40ish I was any team's "I win" button. Then I became the "who cares" button. -
This "new" AI has ruined Phantasm and I say that with no sense of hyperbole whatsoever. What once was a great pet, who would linger by my side and use his energy attacks to kb anyone that got too close, is now reduced to a pet for which I have to evaluate whether or not summoning him is even appropriate.
I do think Bruiser was a winner though. He was prone to throwing rocks with the old AI but now he throws a rock, runs in and footstomps, like you want him to. -
I, for one, wasn't aware of "alien soldiers" until I just clicked those pictures. I guess that makes sense given how the next season of the animated show looks to be Skrull oriented and Marvel/Disney seems to be looking for "synergy" between the movies and the animated show.

Heh, that's what happens when I don't have access to a resource like City of Data, I knew I was forgetting something. It's especially egregious since my next Corr is going to be an Ice/Dark.
Back to my tiers, I'd have to put /Ice in Tier 1. In addition to the Blaster level rains, Freeze Ray is very fast animating and can hold a boss with Dark's hold with a quickness. -
Very good point about the -dmg, I did neglect that despite Chem Rounds being the default for my /DP Defender. That may well put it into T1 given that -dmg is such a tasty debuff.

Quote:Well let's look at what's out there and why it's good (or not) with Dark MiasmaSo Dark it is.
Question:
What is a good Secondary to pair with dark?
Arch: Rain of Arrow over Tar Pit. Not too shabby. If redraw annoys you, you'll have to contend with it especially when alternating Twilight Graps with blasts.
Energy: Not much good to say. You can kb enemies away from your debuffs, if you're into that kinda thing.
Rad: Lots of aoes and will add a debuff type that Dark doesn't have (-def).
Sonic: Stack -res with Tar Patch. Very solid.
Dark: Stack -ToHit, cone aoes that work well with Fearsome Stare. TT will keep foes in your Tar Patch.
Fire: I don't know how this will be for Defenders. My fear for the downside is you may end up wishing you made the Corruptor equivalent, since Tar Patch has the same value, the blast values are higher and then there's Rain of Fire scourging.
Psi: The -Rch's value is sort of questionable given the Fear of Fearsome Stare. Otherwise, should be fine, if not exceptional.
Electric: Themetically ok if you want to make the 1 millionth sith lord or something. Otherwise bleh.
Dual Pistols: Should be decent. Nothing about it particularly "synergistic" with Dark but it doesn't suck.
So, to rank by tiers, I'd say
Tier 1: Dark, Sonic
Tier 2: Rad, Arch, Psi, DP
Tier 3: Energy, Electric
I don't know where /Fire would rank, I'm guessing the middle. On a Corr it's T1, easily. -
It's how I make my more important decisions.
My first vill 50 was a Thug/FF. I still like him.
I guess the main other consideration, besides those you listed, is that /Thermal will ultimately be more damaging, as you Forge pets for +Dmg and further increase their damage with Melt Armor's -res.
Still, I don't think there's a right or wrong choice here. -
This piqued my interest because I created a Demon/Storm on a previously unused server so I could solo him to 50 and really get to know Storm.
I did just that and it was a fun ride. She's a bit dusty from me not playing her hardly any more, but I realized I wanted to at least have a build available if the day ever comes that I IO her out.
So I whipped up a build pretty quickly, it certainly hasn't been scoured for fine-tuning, but it seems to have met these objectives I set:
1) Get decent defense. Enough to pair with Hurricane to floor the to-hit of +3 enemies.
2) Be very endurance friendly. When I think back to leveling this toon, 1 thing comes to mind immediately - *pant pant pant*. Endurance management was a challenge for pretty much every fight, certainly for a prolonged one against an EB.
I ended up with 28% Def to s/l and ranged. With a 34% -tohit from Hurricane, that actually soft-caps to +4s (28 + .5 * 34) = 45. Yes I know the PP adjustment is .48 but I can multiply .5 in my head easier.
Yes, I substituted in the purple sleep set because it's cheap. The 3 pet purples are a smidge more expensive, but I think worth it.
OP you went for teleport pool, I went for personal attacks. That's all personal preference. I created this MM because I wanted a different experience, one where I aggressively spammed attacks and I'll keep that mo because the attacks are helpful (and it's fun).
I do believe the 2nd-tier demons are subjected to schedule B enhancements and thus caps to ED around 60ish%, since it enhances Damage Resists too (right? that's what it looks like when I check my stats). So I just put that much damage in those pets instead of going for 95%.
For reference, here's what I just made up:

Infinity isn't ready to be online, might as well take it back off, it's unplayable.
Look, I'm all for giving a break for unexpected things going wrong, but it's getting out of hand. The product I'm seeing right now is sloppy and devoid of quality or a "customer comes first" perspective. And no, " a giant war walker stomping around the City Hall parking lot in Atlas Park..." (message that just popped up from Beastyle) isn't going to make up for it. -
I'd go Emp/Thermal and be the bestest h341z0r evah (since I can't do Emp/Pain)!
Actually this would be a phenomenal teammate to the lucky someone who would get AB + Fortitude + Forge + Shields -
I like those edits a lot, thanks much. I liked them so much I'd say the odds of my making this guy shot from 5% to 25%.
Yeah I went deeper into the epic pool than I might usually, but I thought all 4 powers had value.
Stone Prison to immob annoying running AVs.
Fossilize because I have a personal rule of thumb for any of my characters to take a hold (though not all do).
Stalagmites for stun stacking with OG, the main reason I went for this epic.
Quicksand to keep the stunned enemies from wandering off.
Anyway, I think it's at a good point for fine-tuning. Again, thanks Finduilas. -
I'm thinking about a next character to make and Battle Axe is the only melee set I haven't taken for a spin yet. So I'm considering pairing it with Dark Armor.
I made a build and I think it may violate one of my personal build commandments that the pursuit of bonuses should not be at the expense of powers that make you more effective in the end.
What I mean is, I approached the build with the intent of soft-capping def to s/l/e/n and mission accomplished (Yes I know e/n is a smidge under 45), but at the expense of offense.
What I don't like:
Endurance in attacks. Eradication offers trivial Endurance enhancement, yet the set is key for e/n def.
Damage in aoes. It sucks. With only 3 slots I made I sure had enough accuracy for +3s and tried to add damage where I could. Still, the +damage enhancements are only around 33% for the hard-hitting aoes.
I could steal the Crushing Impacts I paired with Kin Combat, but doing so would leave those attacks woefully underslotted for Accuracy with the pathetic Kin Combat accuracy enhancements.
Couple of notes - I would intend for this to be a team "heavy tank". Not a farmer, not a soloer, but someone to own aggro and survive the toughest encounters.
So, if you, the Tank community could take a moment to see if you think this is viable for my intentions, I'd appreciate it.
