Quote:Thanks. Yeah I know the ferry to Rein and patrons is safe, though there are lvl 40-41ish mobs on the wall near Rein so you still have to be careful getting to him or in the building. Good to hear the zones will be level appropriate. You can talk to him at 35 to start the patron arcs. I was assured by Synapse in Beta that all doors for patron missions taken by characters under level 40 would spawn in Level correct zones.
There isn't one single foe between the ferry and the door to the Tower in Grandville. Just run a straight line, hop onto the raised platform that LR's statue is on and continue straight ahead. -
I'm just wondering, will Arbiter Rein talk to you at level 35 now so you can select a patron and will that patron give you missions before level 40?
Running around Grandville at level 40 can be... interesting; unless you have full pve invisibility, running around Grandville at level 35 seems like it could be... terrifying. -
Quote:I can tell you for sure that Seekers stack. I validated using the Power Analyzer MK3 and saw 2 instances of the -dmg effect.
E: Hmm, I could be wrong about the seekers actually; apparently they won't stack. Anyone know for sure?
E2: Looking at city of data, it looks like you can't have more than 2 seekers out at once (unlike the mortars they won't stack from you) but the flashpulse effects will stack from the different drone casters. I'm honestly not sure if that's correct though.
If you resummon seekers while you have an active one or two, the old seeker(s) will despawn.
What's the "best" debuffer? I dunno, choose one of Traps, Cold, Rad. Or maybe Dark, Storm or Poison. TA is a pure debuffing set but sadly, isn't really a candidate for "best". -
Pet Gaze has 1/2 the recharge of any of the epic holds. Personally, I like to make sure I've got a useful hold for the LGTF, if nothing else. Anyway, even outside that, I want holds to hold, so I'd rather have Pet Gaze.

The question is about a 2nd box, not what character would be most effective to team with this brute. Blast set (or control) would almost be irrelevant.
The OP doesn't state how facile he is with a 2nd box or if he uses any tools, so I'm going to assume it needs to be pretty fire and forget with a very low aggro threat. It's really hard to beat Emp in this regard. The RAs will be up when AB isn't (and vice versa), and as mentioned, there's Fort and, in a pinch, a heal (a big one too if you want to keep that handy). Get Power Boost (or whatever a Defender gets in epics) for Fort and you've got yourself 10B worth of buffs at your disposal.
Back when I used to farm (I've long since retired), I used an Emp for this purpose and it was great. -
What about 2-box times? I haven't yet done it with just one character, but my lowest for 2-boxing is about 10ish minutes (don't remember specifics for seconds). I'd rather get the rewards twice in 10-11 minutes than once in 6-7 minutes, even though it means more mobs and 2x the travel.
-
Based on my own play experiences with a /WP scrap, I can't imagine needing Conserve Power and out of the 3 you listed would absolutely be the one I would drop. Dark Consumption would also have the added benefit of providing endurance tools for exemping as well, for whatever that's worth.

Quote:This wasn't always the case. The toggle brought the aggro to the Sonic, once upon a time. Could be an amusing griefing tool to use, if you wanted, if stealthy and en-hula hooped, you could run up to a mob and watch them take off after your sonic buddy.Isn't the benefit that you, as a defender, for example, do not have to aggro a mob to add the debuff. By being able to put it on an ally, the mob aggro doesn't happen until your ally attacks, and then the aggro still doesn't go to you. I don't think that is "no benefit".

Quote:If you're recasting pets for PD more than with Thermal, then L2PD (learn to Pain Dom).Thermal, no further investigation needed.
That is unless you love spending time recasting your pets. Then go pain.
Quote:However, being paired with demons, thermal wins hands down. The reason is the stacked resists
But hey, let's do consider that these are Demons. DS is the rare MM primary where the attacks are worth taking and using. In that case the synergy advantage goes to PD since there are several self buffing powers in the set, to help the whip attacks hit more frequently and harder.
I won't even get into the tankerminding possibilities with PD, which are FAR superior to Thermal. Thermal offers nothing but the pbaoe heal for self-protection, PD offers resists, regen and the same heal Thermal has. PD can stack resists from epics and tough (with no resist slotting for tough) to hard cap s/l with 63% energy resists with 18% to everything else, including Psi with a big regen buff as the cherry on top.
Like I said originally though, Thermal does have better AV handling tools.
Thermal wins hands down? Hardly. -
Good question...
Nullify/Soothe Pain = Warmth/Cauterize
Power of Phoenix ~ Conduit of Pain
Enforced Morale ~ Thaw
So 4/9 powers are, for practical purposes, duplicates. What's left is
Share Pain, Suppress Pain, World of Pain, Anguishing Cry, Painbringer
vs
Fire Shield, Plasma Shield, Forge, Heat Exhaustion, Melt Armor
In other words - a big ally/pet heal, a pbaoe +regen power, a pbaoe +res +tohit +dmg power, a pbaoe -def -res power and a "turn one ally/pet into unkillable engine of destruction" +regen +rec +dmg power
vs
+Resist shields (let's call them aoe), a +tohit +dmg buff for 1 to n allies/pets, a great ST debuff, an aoe -def - res power.
Let's see what we get for buffs (all #s unenhanced):
Resists: 15% for everyone but you with Thermal. 11.25% for everyone including you with PD
To-Hit: 15% for 1 to 5 (depending on recharge and your diligence) allies/pets with Thermal, 7.5% for everyone including you with PD
Dmg: 30% for 1 to 5 (depending on recharge and your diligence) allies/pets with Thermal, 12% for everyone including you with PD. One lucky someone gets a 37.5 dmg buff from PD.
Regen: PD has the only regen buffs, one pbaoe, one for 1 ally/pet
Who wins that battle? I think the more entities there are to buff then PD starts to surge ahead. If you're going to be a strict soloer and micromanage Forge, then maybe Thermal wins the buff battle.
Let's look at debuffs:
Pain Dom only gets a -res/-def (-22.5% for both)pbaoe debuff on a 120 second timer with a 30 second duration.
Thermal gets a -15% def / -22.5% resist ranged aoe debuff on a 150 second timer and 40 second duration. Additionally, Thermal gets a great ST debuff for -dmg and -regen.
Thermal would have to be declared the debuff winner
Overall, it looks pretty even to me, in the grand scheme of things. Once upon a time I would have said Thermal was superior to PD but after playing a PD Corr (as well as a MM) to 50, I've changed my tune. After all this, I'm not going to wrap things up with a tidy "the winner is..." conclusion because I don't think there is one. -

I'm going to guess a few reasons you don't see more:
*Crab-pack limits creativity for look. Certainly not an issue for game-play, but this matters to some people
*Endurance leveling up is not easy. I used to pray for a kin when joining a team, but with set bonuses and cardiac, it's a complete non-issue now for me. Still, absent PL-ing, it's a long way to get to that point.
*Not really a farmer. Sure you can farm, but with the reliance on cones, positioning is pretty key and mobs that move to melee can screw this up.
I don't know really. I'm with the OP 100%. I think of mine as a WW2 battleship, delivering massive splash damage from afar and able to take the return fire.
As for Banes and Huntsmen, I don't have significant hands-on experience with either, I have 0 hours with a Huntsman. The Bane's most powerful attacks are melee, so it's definitely a significantly different playstyle from a Crab. There are those that espouse the Huntsman build, but it seems to me the main advantage over Crab is they're not stuck with the crab-pack. -
Quote:I just did a little compare and contrast with my own Bots/Traps so I've spent a little time digging into your build.
I know you're not soliciting feedback and you're clearly pleased with performance and deservedly so. While looking over, I did notice something for consideration:
Assault Bot has 45.8% accuracy and 97.63% damage post-ED. If you change the Edict of the Master Damage to an Acc/Dmg, that becomes 69.93% acc and 95.46% dmg. So for not a lot of sacrifice to damage output, you could up his accuracy which will help especially for exemping.
Just something to consider... -
Welcome back, I would expect Demons/Pain to be pretty potent.
My thoughts -
I'd go 2 endurance reductions in your heals. MM heals are pretty costly.
Something about taking (and slotting) Stealth bugs me. I get taking stealth as an IO set mule and/or having an ability to stealth a mission. The slotting indicates you intend to use it full time. The reason it "bugs" me is that I found Pain Dom to be exceptional for dealing with aggro while in Bodyguard mode. A regen power, a resists power and a self heal allows you to take a lot of damage and survive.
The MM attacks from DS are actually quite effective. I far suggest those over the patron attacks. I substituted Crack Whip (the cone) instead of Stealth. Using Crack Whip to start a fight is a great way to debuff mobs and draw aggro.
Not taking Anguishing Cry is, in my mind, a terrible omission. It's a very solid debuff power that will increase your kill speed (and your team's). I took that in place of Electfying Fences.
Lastly I took Lash instead of Static Discharge. I would take Lash a LOT earlier but I don't have time to tweak the build that much right now.
Just making sure you know - Vengeance only works on dead teammates, not your pets. If you still want to keep Veng, a Def IO is more helpful than enhancing Heal. The Def boost from veng is substantial, the heal not so much.
Here's what it looks like with those suggestions:

I have no idea why, but the Lysosome trick doesn't appear to work for MM pets.
I've tried it for 2 different MMs - a Bots/Traps and a Thugs/FF
I've got 2 Lysos slotted in the Protector Bots - in combat attributes I see 7.5% +Def from Force Shield, which is the base number (I'm looking at this in-game as I type this)
I respecced out of Lysos on my Thugs/FF, so I can't give you numbers in-game "right now". I did not see the Thugs Maneuvers increase with Lysos. I changed their slotting to Cytoskeletons, which do work.
I don't view the Lysos as a crisis for the Bots/Traps at the moment, they still enhance the Bots Seekers -ToHit as well as Prot Bot Accuracy, but that's not optimal and I'll take them out when I find the motivation to do another respec. -
Given how hamstrung the freeps are, I have no problem with them using help for teams. Lord knows I've seen far worse in help channels (across various servers) by current paying players than someone looking for a team via the only means they really have.
Seriously, when someone broadcasts "team lfm" and you have to try to hunt down the broadcaster so they can chat in local... well that's a serious problem. I certainly get that the freeps don't get all the goodies, but if we're trying to win them over, we should allow them to see the game's fundamental appeal, which is teaming (I say this as a 75% soloer). I mean really, put yourself in their shoes and ask if you would want to join a game if you were subjected to these chat restrictions. -
As per Supernumiphone's post, and my own OP, this is not what's happening. In the OP I explained that I ran it yesterday and got the message that I could not receive the rewards because it had not yet been 7 days since I last claimed a reward.
-
I found out the hard way that the SSA timer was not reset on Tuesdays the first time I ran it yesterday. I got the message that I had claimed the reward(s) within the last 7 days and could not claim them now.
So that means this reward is on a 7 day timer. However, there's no indication of when a reward was last claimed. That means when I click on a character that I log in frequently, I have no way of knowing if that character can claim a reward or not, short of running the SSA and seeing what comes up.
I offer 2 suggestions to resolve this:
1) Restart the timer on Tuesday, just as the WST is done. Personally I think this is the cleanest answer from a customer perspective.
2) Give the player the relevant information needed to know whether or not they can claim a reward. Perhaps this can be another dialog with the contact. Personally I don't really care what the implementation details would be, I just care that players get access to the information they need to know whether they are wasting their time when running the SSA.
Perhaps there's an even better solution, but the current state is not satifactory and needs to be enhanced.
A note to fellow players - I am not interested in manual work-arounds, so you can spare the effort of typing them out. There needs to be an in-game solution, not a user's manual work-around. -
Sorry, in the year 2011 I have certain expectations I believe to be quite reasonable. People said "Notepad" for praetorian AVs and eventually we got Null the Gull. Obviously there's a timers the game knows, there's no reason we shouldn't be exposed to it.
-
I can get 24 hour (actually 20) timers for tfs, emp merits, etc. It's not that hard to remember "Hey I ran this last night with my Claws Brute". But to remember what day you ran something within a 7 day period?
This makes me an unhappy paying customer, I think this could be set up in a more user friendly manner, whether that means some indication of how long your timer is left is fine, it doesn't have to be reset on Tuesdays like WST, but as is, it's very unsatisfying. -
Last week, like many altohoics, I spent a lot of time picking up my 2 alignment merits for most all of my pure hero/villain aligned characters. I don't remember which character did what, I just ran the arc. A lot.
Today is Tuesday, when the WST changes. The WST is on a timer that makes it easy for the player to not have to remember the date and time they last ran the WST. Tuesday comes, you're free and clear to run it and claim your WST booty.
Now, I made an assumption (and I know the cliche about assuming) that the SSA timer would be the same. After all, the SSA was introduced on a Tuesday.
Not the case, I ran with someone that I used in the latter part of last week and I made sad face when I was unable to select the alignment merit because I ran it within the last 7 days.
My question is - is this the correct behavior as anyone else understood it? Is this documented somewhere? Is there a way to tell if you're not eligible yet for the alignment merit? Before I write something up for the suggestions forum, I want to make sure this is WAI or not. -
Here's my first draft.
Full disclosure: I have about 15 minutes experience playing Time on beta and Ice is by far the control set I'm least familiar with, so this build is made with no practical in-game expertise of either set.

As for my Traps Def, I went for defense and recharge set bonuses primarily, using procs where I could, such as Ragnarok in Caltrops, the hold Proc in the purple immob set (forgot the name). I've seen someone say their Herostats log indicated they got most of their damage from procs.
Still, my 2 inf is to say soft-cap and proc where you can. You may be constrained from being a full proc monster, but you can still sneak some in. -
Quote:At level 30 with no +Def bonuses outside of a Steadfast Protection, I'm always at my survival threshold when tanking for big teams, so OG is pretty key to survival at this point. I'll learn to live with the meandering mobs for now and avoid slotting OG for Stun enhancement.
generally don't use either aura unless I'm running against my survival threshold. -
I really find it hard to believe that merging the AT forums is solving a problem, at least from a user perspective. Rather I'd say merging will cause more confusion. The red-name OP wasn't even certain if Doms should be categorized as ranged damage or support (doubly confusing since many Doms do their damage in melee), how can a newbie?
Keep them distinct.
