  1. For a final build, the shields are, in order

    1) Home for LOTG +7.5% rch
    2) Home for Steadfast -kb and 3%
    3) See what slots are left over after building for Def, Recharge, HP, etc

Sorry, but a Cold is not about "shields along with sleet before anything else". It's about debuffing hard targets and getting Heat Loss off frequently Truth be told my Cold Def shield numbers would meet with your approval only because of the regen and HP bonuses from LOTG. My Cold troller only has 2 slots for shields. If the 3-4ish percent Def missing from the slotting these folks are showing is a difference maker to someone, they need to reevaluate their own build.

In the end, though, they sent an avatar to him and said that "even the Celestials respect the bond you have with Mjolnir" and restored it. One of my favourite Thorr issues of that time.
I just want to "ditto" this. I read this particular issue at a newstand and it got me back into comics after a lengthy hiatus. I do think how Thor lost this battle said more about him than any of his victories. Sort of like "Rocky".
  3. That actually caught my attention, to see what the Celestials are up to. Usually they show up en masse to judge if a species is "worthy".

As for who has ever managed to harm a Celestial, Thanos whipped their collective butt pretty good, when he was Infinity Gauntletted out.
  4. While they use different mechanics (kb vs repel), they're basically the same. However RF has a much more managable radius, one that would be less disruptive to a team and provide you the ability to more strategically choose which mobs you want knocked away. I honestly can't think of a good use for Froce Bubble in today's game except for maybe the computer in ITF, and again, you can still accomplish the same by running around the robots to kb them.
  5. My 2 inf, for the OPs 3 choices, vary based on what finishes the question "What is the best soloer for...?"

For a smooth ride from 1-50, I'd say Ice/Storm. Freeze Ray at level 8, Freezing Rain and Hurricane both by level 20, will provide a LOT of mitigation.

For a nice return on a sizeable investment, Ill/Rad is what others have said in this thread and many many others.

For aoe crowd control, that also benefits from a big investment, the Mind/Energy dom won't disappoint. An epic like Fire would probably make this your best option for soloing bigger spawns, but that's late game.

Also, fwiw, all three of these should finish a mission faster than an ice/ice tank.

That counts damage set bonuses, build up effects, Fulcrum Shift, Assault, and inspirations. But it is NOT counting the enhancement of your powers against that cap. If it were, your damage buff display would start at whatever the enhancement level is of the power you are currently using.

You'll reach a maximum amount of damage you can do with a given power that is hardcoded into the AT you are playing, but enhancements aren't really part of that equation.

It's more complicated than that, but the gist is there.
This is a confusing post to me. I thought damage was capped, by power, by something as simple as min(AT cap, Enhancements + Σ(damage buffs)). The number on the attributes can't show enhancements because, to state the obvious, that will vary by each power. Enhancements are very much a part of what the max damage is, unless I've been terribly misunderstanding how damage caps work for years now.

    DA alpha

My DA tank just hit 50 last week. I haven't really plotted out incarnates yet, but I'm starting to turn my attention to alpha. It seems one of the new ones - Agility, is a clear winner. It buffs End Mod, Rch and Def, and adds movement speed as a tertiary on the right tree.

I don't have endurance problems, per se. I can last a fairly long time in a fight without outside recovery buffs, but not indefinitely. Because I sought typed +Def buffs, I have very little global recharge, so having more from alpha would be welcome. Lastly the Def buff takes me from a smidge below soft-cap for s/l/e/n to a smidge above. More precisely, this def buff will allow me to unslot the Glad Armor proc I'd rather not use.

Anyone have a convincing argument that "No, Agilty pales compared to..." and what it is that is better for Dark Armor (Armour if you prefer)?
  8. That Mind on Doms is "overrated", I can't comment on, I don't know where it's rated or who is rating it, for that matter. However, that a Mind Dom will "still end up with fewer always-available hard controls that directly benefit" (from Domination) is more of a fact-based statement, but I'm not sure what facts are used to support it. I suppose it's a matter of the nebulously defined term "hard controls". Nebulous in that I can't say I've seen consensus on what "hard control" is.

Even on SOs/basic IOs, Terrify is up for spawn-to-spawn crowd control. Perhaps it doesn't count as "hard control", I personally find it effective. That is, of course, only an opinion.

Moving beyind SOs/basic IOs, to a perma-dom build, in my own experience I find the CC sequence to be Mass Confusion > Terrify > Total Domination > Terrify > repeat. These all benefit from Domination. Also benefitting from Domination is Mass Hypnosis, basically always up, just in case. Then of course also benefitting from Dom is Mesmerize, Dominate and Confuse. Perma Dom Dominate and Confuse allow for some feats simply not available to anyone else, hold AV1 and confuse AV2.

Anyway, my own play experience doesn't jibe with Mind having fewer "always-available hard controls" when I find that there's always something available. Sorry to OP and others for continuing a discussion of Dominators, which the OP was not asking about.
  9. It's certainly a fairy tale that someone, somewhere, has a standard of beauty such that Kristen Stewart is "fairer" than Charlize Theron.

As for the voice of the mirror, I thought it was Idris Elba (Heimdall from "Thor") but he's not in the Snow White imdb credits. In fact I didn't see anyone credited for that.

I never saw any treatment for it, but I assume it centered around the fact that six million isn't a lot of money these days for a cyborg. I imagine the film would have been filled with hilarious moments such as Steve's legs breaking down, causing him to flop around on the ground like an idiot, or his arm rusting off.
Robot Chicken has already addressed this with the 6 Million Peso Man:

  11. I don't think it can really be pin-pointed to one specific movie (as the OP is asking for) but Tom Hanks has certainly broken from early "Tom Hanks roles". Looking at IMDB, it seems the craptacular "Bonfire of the Vanities" was his first big serious role, though I'd posit that "Big" was his first step to break his typecasting. Though a comedy, his role wasn't just a goofy one, he actually needed to act for it. After "Bonfire" he got on a winning streak (commercially and critically) the likes of which I don't think I've witnessed in my lifetime. 30+ years later after playing the mischievous young man behaving badly, he's now one of the most powerful people in the industry that does what he wants, when he wants.
  12. I always /sign this when it comes up, so I'm doing so again now.

I have no constructive response to answer the OP, just wanted to /sign.
  13. I'm going to "ditto" the OP. I PLd a Rad/Fire blaster during one of the more egregious AE exploits (statute of limitations applies to exploits in game right?) and put him on the bench, but about a month or 2 ago I dusted him off, stole a build I found in the forums to soft-cap s/l and tweaked a bit. Now I'm loving him on tfs. I haven't tried pushing the envelop yet to try +2/8 farming, but maybe one of these days (farming is no longer an interest).

So, I had little expectation for this character, but it looks like he just may be capable of more mass destruction than any other character I have and can actually survive while doing so.

But regardless, as was pointed out to me as well when the Incarnate Alphas came out. You can pick up Nerve Alpha and be defense capped all around yourself and pets included and you will still have room to pick up Aid Other and Aid Self.
Stimulant is in the build which satisfies a prerequisite for Aid Self, so "must have Aid Other" isn't true. That said, I'm a strong advocate for Aid Other over Repair and, in the case of FF, Stimulant. With the low hp of the henchmen there's not a big difference between a well slotted Aid Other and Repair, especially combined with Prot Bot heals.

    Other notes -

    No Endurance Reduction in Maneuvers.

The word on Fly is that it caps flight speed with no enhancement at all. I'd put a proc here of some sort, whether -kb or stealth or Winter's Gift.

Repulsion Bomb is a pretty decent tool to have around.

That's a lot of slots dedicated to Veng and Resuscitate. I'll second that Repulsion Bomb and Photon Grenade will serve you well and offer Veng and Resusc as 2 powers to drop for them.
  15. I'm always drawn to Kin/Sonic builds, one of my favorite combos.

I'm just going to make some bullet points.

    * Siphon Power and Fulcrum Shift really don't need End Reduction, especially with Transference up every ~10 seconds.

    * Entropic Chaos in Shriek - are you using this for the heal proc? EC is inferior to Decimation in just about every way, except it's cheaper. You do have enough accuracy bonuses and to-hit buffs to compensate for the weak accuracy of the EC set (23% acc)

    * 2 end mods in sb is quite generous for your teammates. Feel free to cut back to 1 if you'd rather use that slot elsewhere.

    * Rectified Reticle in Amplify and Tactics is odd unless you're pursuing s/l def. I don't see any evidence of building up s/l def. I'd slot in either Adjusted Targeting or Gauss.

    * I'm not a fan of the regen proc, especially on a low hp squishy. I'd advise a Miracle proc or put in 2 more Numi IOs to get the +hp buff.

    * For 3 slotting Stamina, I'm a fan of 3 Perf Shifters, including the proc.

    * I'd use an LOTG Def/Rch (very cheap) instead of the Heal/Rch in Veng.

    * I'd get a Stealth IO somewhere, preferably Sprint.

You built up some decent recharge and your contribution to "steamroller" teams will be significant. The type of team where Tank grabs aggro, troller locks down mobs, etc, where you'll take little direct fire. Since you didn't build up any defense to speak of, on some speed teams, you will likely take significant damage if team buffs aren't helpful (e.g. Cold or FF Shields). Still, overall, good stuff.
  16. Honest question - by level 40 you don't have a preference between the two? If you do, there's your winner. If they're truly equal to you, I personally have a strong bias to Ice over Electric. I prefer the Ice hold over Elecs, I believe the ST damage is better and even though Electric can cycle more AOE powers, I still prefer Ice for aoe due to Ice Storm's blaster damage, same for the nuke.
  17. One important correction to an above point - both rogues and vigs can start it, again, given that they have the Usurper badge.

That means you can have a chance to Placate on an /Electric Manipulation blaster, or an Electric Melee stalker. Or a Dominator. You could use it on a scrapper, tank, or brute too, but I can't imagine why you'd want to bother, especially with the tank.
I could see this being quite nice on a Stalker, that is, if the Placate effect puts the Stalker back in hide like the power Placate. Does it?

I've used this set (and proc) on several toons and I can't say I've ever noticed the visual effect of the proc. If they're slept I don't get to see the "wait... wha?" effect Placate has.

    /Fire or /MM

I have a Rad/Fire that I PLd to 50 and sat on the sidelines for a loooong time. About 1-2 months ago I decided to go ahead and build him and play him. Because it was a pure PL build, I didn't really have a great idea of how to build it, so I blatantly stole Miladys Knight's build I found in the Blaster forum, in a post about Rad/Fire. I made some minor mods to take Cold Mastery instead of Mace (since I had not run the patron arc) and I am pleased with Cold and I don't imagine I'll switch to Mace even though I've unlocked those powersets by now. Cold gets the same s/l def numbers and has sweet, sweet Hibernate. There is the costume issue, but aesthetics aren't my thing.

I can't compare to MM, since I have no hand-on experience with that secondary. Based on the powers it seems it would be a different playstyle. Rad/Fire is simply hit Aim or BU, jump into the middle of a spawn and hit your pbaoes until everyone dies. If there are resilient bosses use some st attacks. MM may have some similarities, jump in for Drain Psyche, Irradiate and Psi Shockwave, but then jump out for cones.
  20. To me, it's not just that it's 10% chance to fire, but when it fires it's just 5% HP. So the expected value of the HP it will return on an attack is .5%. I think this one's a dud.

    Beam/Ice build

Though Beam with Ice sounds like something I might order at a bar, in this context it's a pairing of powersets I've never played before. The word on the street about Beam Rifle seems to be that to make best use of it you have to really focus on using its powers. Ice Manip looks like it allows that - drop an Ice Patch, throw out a Shiver, BU and start blasting.

I whipped up a s/l soft-capped build with decent recharge. Actually I made 2, the one I pasted below is with Cold Mastery, I also made a Mace Mastery build but lost it. No great loss because I think I like the variety of powers in Cold better, even at the expense of Energy defense.

    So... whatya think?

  22. I'm on a similar quest as the OP, to have played a 50 of every powerset. Not including the brand new sets, I'm just down to some Blaster secondaries (Ice, Mental and now Dark) and Thorny Assault from Doms.

My most recent Blaster was a Rad/Fire and I can't more enthusiastically recommend that pairing. Rad provides a fantastic setup for /Fire, put a -res proc in Irradiate and the the subsequent fire pbaoes hit harder (if proc fires) and more reliably (due to -def). I take some odd satisfaction from killing off a spawn without having targetted anyone with this guy.
  23. Lord Recluse never gives you his digits, but that I understand (we're not worthy). Still a pain gameplay-wise. It's a shame that the most effective (that is, speedy) way to do Faathim or LR is to have someone contact sit some, or in the case of Faathim, all of it.
  24. Quote:
    Good healing oriented sets are:
    Empathy for Defenders and Controllers.
    Pain Domination for Corrupters.
    Thermal Radiation for all three.
This list omits MMs, who have Pain Dom and Thermal.

There are those that believe that, if you're insisting on being a "pure healer" then MMs allow you to be more useful because your pets can at least provide some damage
  25. Before IOs, fire/kin controllers were farming at what would today be +2/6 with 2 million (that M, not B) inf SO builds. You certainly don't need 6B to "make it good".
