Quote:IMHO this particular change was made in haste. At the time it seemed to me that the number of people that had actually gotten to the 40's on the DA BETA toon was minimal at best. The new version is certainly an overall buff and I definitely look forward to the Dam Res, but the current version is by no means a slouch.
Arg
Slotted and with seat time to 1 to 50, it is just fine as you noted. Not going to complain about the change without seat time, just pointing out it was not "needed" as some claimed without seat time just based on paper. -
Quote:Forums are ALWAYS full of a large percentage of min/maxers. The key with this game is the devs for the most part do hear those folks asking for optional "challenges" which lead to the current expanded difficulty options. You top-tier players want extra challenge to stroke your epeens with, fine - but make it OPTIONAL. Frankly, there needs to be an option to force EBs down to "boss" level so us mere mortals can stand a chance.
As long as they continue to provide flexibility anything they do to satisfy the min/maxers mentality should not hurt those not interested in dealing with it. Anything other than that would be pretty stupid and these devs are not stupid like that no way. -

Quote:Well I think the customization option kind of covers all types of challenges as that is the entire point of customization options.I understand what you're saying, but your idea of a challenge seems to be different than mine. Bosses/EBs/AVs don't always equal challenge. More often than not, they equal frustration. Certain encounters' high levels of HP/regen/debuff resist/damage all combine to make for a very frustrating experience that ultimately end in relief that it's over and not actual enjoyment. That's been my own personal experience though, and primarily with older EBs/AVs. I've tried AVs and certain EBs solo and the strategy there ultimately ends up being to pop 4 lucks and try to kill it before they time out.
If they could give the option for the types of scripted encounters mentioned AND more options to customize the EB/AV's then they could satisfy a lot more people that just having the regeneration machine in the rogue morality mission everytime for instance.
My further point is it takes more time to make missions a certain script as I see suggested here and that challenge of that same script ends once people figure it out just like the incarnate trials. Even if they give options for 5-6 types of scripts to be run in a given mission that's just 5-6 scripts people would learn, it's not rocket science.
The development time could be utilized in a much better way IMHO making a customized balanced type system vs a purely scripted encounter system. -
Quote:I run incarnate trials daily so I get that and respect it for the limited use it has been used for so far. A few tip missions and incarnates have the script thing going on. I think its limited and not creative in ways that an optional customized system as outlined above is not. Some of us actually enjoy said gimmicks and find them as a welcome relief to the standard asinine "tank and spank" mindset of the majority of the playerbase. I actually want to have the game force me to think, strategize, and get me out of the rut I get in after playing standard content.
As long as they make any of this stuff optional I will be fine with whatever they do, I just think painting themselves into the scripted encounter corner is not the best use of developer time. Once folks figure out the script that "challenge" is over vs a new customized challenge each encounter. -
Quote:THIS! Something "OPTIONAL", highly customizable and straight forward. No need for overly complicated new percentages and FOR THE LOVE OF THE BABY SEALS NO SCRIPTED PINK PATCHES OF DEATH OR REGENERATING TOWERS ETC.. GIMMICKS FROM THE INCARNATE TRIALS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!!!!I think you should pursue something entirely different, literally. Maybe set up a completely alternate difficulty slider for missions. Where you can have greater freedom to customize the mob makeup you will face. Like changing the percentage of what you face. Want more Bosses, click. Want more Elite Bosses, click. Want more AVs, click. It would certainly have me out on my 50s more often when a friend says "Hey, running the ITF with everything set to Bosses and EBs and double AVs"

Quote:In a well known space game they were shooting people that bought the expensive monocle out of spite. They were even organized hit squads roaming the market lanes looking for new victims daily. Of course this game is much friendlier than that so sadly none of that can happen.Ok finally seen my first Leprechaun in game. Owned by a player with no yearly vet badges but is a tier 8. So If you got the money to burn.... Guess I found the person for whom they were marketing this thing.
But that being said if you (Paragon) would make a vanity pet say "black cat" that would have "bad luck" follow others around when its out. I would spend 800 points out of spite just to have the power to make the damn leprechaun totally useless. Just info incase you want to market to people like me. -
Quote:Makes some sense since we can use incarnate powers in forms. I think is has to do with making each form unique etc.... I do agree that the restrictions could use another review with this in mind.Personally I think anything that isn't a either a direct damage attack, a heal or a shield should be available for use in forms. I honestly can't see that it's overpowered.
I will always support these kinds of good suggestions. -
Quote:Yeah, I just hope whatever they decide to do its OPTIONAL and not the new norm. As I understand it the devs are still on the everything can be done with SO's only side. I wonder where that goes if they make some of the radical over the top uber max suggestions I am seeing from players.Yeah, that's what I was thinking of with the boosted HP/durability idea. Like a version of EBs with something similar to High Pain Threshold on Willpower. A more durable EB that can take some hits to occupy that middle area. A well built, high level scrapper, stalker or brute can put out 5,000 points of damage in very little time.
I'm not talking about Reichsman levels of crazy. Just able to stand up to players. -
Quote:Yes, known issue.Alright not sure where to post this at, but I did look for Known Issues to see if what I am about to list here was indeed on that list, but search function fails me at the moment, so...
Umbra Beast. Is he bugged? He only attacks when I am attacked even if missed, very irritating to say the least. Also will he be getting some kind of movement buff? As it is he ran all the way around a corner in skyway to use the stairs to get to me where an ambush nearly handed me my ****, but when he got there I was like 3/4's done with the mob. -
Quote:Right and that took you all of two minutes to think about it and come up with the solution. Why is it that the devs do not see these obvious QOL issues when running toons in BETA where we saw the problem and mentioned same?I agree there are many other avenues they could have taken to have not run into the problem (if making salvage account bound is indeed the problem)
Such as a voucher in ouroboros to trade your catalyst in and get it back in the form of an email, ala Astrals>threads and Emps>threads or simply making the catalyst itself be something other than salvage so that it could be account bound.
What's that, they don't run BETA toons like we do. Oh okies, then maybe when we mention stuff like this in BETA it should get addressed and not ignored? Nah, lets wait till live when MOAR people are telling us what our BETA testers who took the time to help us and we ignored them told us.
Bloody brilliant. -
All I can stress here is more "options" none of this auto scaling to EB/AV nonsense because of the numbers on the team etc.. it should be TOTALLY optional.
As I see it with EB's at around 5k in hp and AV's like 28k? there should be something optional in between. -
I am not aware of companies withholding items finished on BETA for months waiting on that special Tuesday to arrive, but hey I don't play all MMO's. The one's I play don't do this as I stated earlier.

Quote:No lets not leave it there and maybe take this chance to educate us that are unaware of the proper origin of the Leprechaun if it is not based on Irish mythology and folklore. Most of the items about Leprechauns in that article are not drawn from Celtic folklore. I'm afraid the internet is lying to you.
Look, I'm tired of fighting about this to be honest, I find this item be be a lazy, sterotypical American trope of a Leprechaun and view of Ireland in general. You don't understand that.
Can we just leave it there?
In case you have not noticed I am not down for any type of stereotypes, but also want the word to be used properly for real life people and not a mythological character that was created by and came from that culture. It's not based a real Irish person or is it? What is the true origin of the character if it is not what is listed on that page?
Can you point us uneducated to a proper place to be educated to the view/perspective of the Leprechaun from the true Irish perspective.
I don't like this I'm tired fallback, no take the time to properly educate people man!! -
Quote:As above I provided a link to http://www.yourirish.com/culture/ where these people claim to not only be Irish but embrace the very things you say are stereotypes, as myth and folklore of the people of Ireland since the time before the Celts.Erm, the Irish didn't create most of the things now commonly associated with them, such as the red hair, shamrocks or even the fact they wear green all the time. It was more that all those things accrued to it in movies and other media, things like those Lucky Charms cereals you have over there and films like Darby O'Gill. They all fed in together to propagate this amalgam of sterotypes which comes out every 17th of March.
But I still don't find it an offensive stereotype, just a tiresome one. They're basically a cringeworthy tourist trap which symbolise everything twee which people seem to associate with Ireland.
Stereotypes are based on real life people not mythological/folklore created characters. -
Quote:How is it this when the Irish created the mythology/folklore themselves about the character? My point, as has been noted elsewhere above, is that it's lazy cultural stereotyping.
I don't get how people are trying to call this character a Irish "stereotype" when it is a created figure from myth and folklore. If someone was making a RL comment about Irish people and then making up a character based on that sure, but this one from their own myths and folklore? No I don't see how that fits the box you and others are trying to put it in (ie. stereotype). -
Quote:That is NOT the same thing. You show me a Jewish or African American mythology/folkore character created by "them", then and only then you might have something.Ok, I'll explain by way of analogy:
Imagine if, instead of St. Patrick's Day, this was 'honoring' Hanukkah, or MLK Day. Really, sit down and write out the copy for the advert - start with a (slightly misquoted) 'typical' phrase for 'that kind of person', and then design the Jewish or African American vanity pet. What would it look like, what sort of game effects would it have? What would the summoning emote look like, to make it as culturally distinctive as possible, what would the idle animation be?
Seriously, write some ideas down.
Read it out loud.
See what it sounds like. -
Quote:Not buying the offended part due to the origin and their handling of it which was more than fine.Like I said I'm not that overly fussed really, I just think it's pretty terrible writing and a terribly lazy idea to be spending development time on.
The spending the dev time on it...meh a reskin of the other pets with a 10% influence code bump took a skilled artist and programmer what 30 minutes to make? I doubt they spent much time on it, certainly not enough to delay work on staff fighting for instance.
I think people have a solid ground miff regarding the price point, but the only response to that is saying so here and not buying it, anything else seems inappropriate/misplaced anger as presented. -
Quote:Well, in certain circumstances it cannot be avoided. For instance the person that can pay for multiple accounts can gain an advantage over someone that can only afford one.Pay to win is usually a bad thing.
Plus it pisses people off who built their characters through their own effort in the game....as opposed to whipping out a credit card.
You should NEVER have a tangible advantage over another player simply because you have more disposable money than them.
However, I don't think it is a good idea to sell procs for PP that are in "any" way different from the same proc crafted IO in the game. That kind of thing is booty. -
Quote:Way way too sensitive for something that was not made to be offensive in anyway whatsoever.I pretty much summed it up at the top of the page. It's not really that the use of a leprechaun is hideously offensive but the whole thing is just one giant, unfunny, lazy sterotype, both in terms of the Pet itself and the post at the start of this thread. I mean really? That's the best you could manage?
You must be going nutso over this page then:

Quote:TBH, this is where the devs keep shooting themselves in the foot regarding QOL stuff. Considering the code restrictions they had no business making that salvage. That should have been like an SO enhancement drop except marked as attuned like the ATO's.According to Arbiter Hawk on the "Unplanned Downtime Ustream", salvage can't be made Account Bound - That flag only exists for two things, I think he said Recipes and Enhancements. Everything else only has the "Untradeable" flag available to it. Making account bound salvage would first require writing new code, and he didn't say anything about how difficult that might be.
I find it somewhat astonishing that all those smart people on the dev team have such little foresight when it comes to this kind of thing. Whatever... -
Quote:I don't quite understand this claim made by some here and if it is serious. The claim of the stereotype and it being highly offensive. In regards to the Leprechaun pet being 800 points....I find it a highly offensive (being of Irish descent) stereotype for Irish peoples. Besides if you need this to get more influence well....that is just sad.
In regards to marketing....
here's Willy Wonka
As I understand things this was from "Irish" mythology and folklore? If that is so how is it offensive for other people to refer to mythology and folklore established by the Irish themselves. What am I missing?
