I think it is a legit question in a hybrid model and considering what the devs said about how resource intensive the pets are.
Man there is something that is sticking in my crawl that just irks me something fierce. However, if I was new to the game sure I would think is would be ok to do the invention license deal with a limit of 2 total.
Being here since I8 working years to get my cool vet pet army that disappeared close to right after I got my second pet, I am just sick to the stomach about so no I would not pay a penny. -

MA/WP scrapper is a fire and forget missile that is pretty sweet 1 to 50, and is just pure butt kicking fun.
Yeah, MM is very powerful, but you do need to know what the heck is going on and I would not recommend them to the OP under said conditions...no way. -

And like people have been saying- it makes sense. The female should be the hunter, the male should be the companion pet. If the male lion was in the BM set, it would just lounge around and growl at you till you brought it food.
ON Topic-I don't think the OP's point had a lot to do with the real life roles as much as it has to do with pet customization. I can see how people could have missed that point being overly anxious to find that picture to mock the OP. -

On topic, I can understand your frustration, but as you see weeks from the release of BM why they did not use male lions. They are obviously trying really hard to maximize the profits for their four legged rig, to the point of obsessive love as the panther is coming soon as well.
I still would not rule out pet customization. The way I see it, the more pets they put out, the more choices for pet customization there could be and therefore makes it more attractive as an add on feature down the road. I could be totally wrong about this as well.
