Quote:Oh I am on top of that kind of RL stuff because I have an interest.Well google Google Glasses and watch the video. It's their first pass on AR. I'm sure Microsoft will soon follow with their own take on it.
My brother is an architect and a futurist. I can remember as a kid in the late sixties and early seventies him making drawings and talking about basically all of the gadgets and devices we have now.
It was strange growing up next to a person that has such vision that only now some 40 years later some of the stuff he use to talk about all the time is just starting to come out. I use to get a bit freaked out when I would see one of his car designs for instance roll of the lot decades after his drawings from our childhood.
And yes there is going to be stiff competition in the future to get people's gadgets dollar for sure. Microsoft will definitely be a player. -
Quote:This is precisely why I apologized in advance as I have become accustomed to this very type of response over the years. IDK man what can I say I don't like the old pre-sixties cartoon look either, it is just a personal preference deal I think.Anime is a broad category. I'm not sure how you can hate it so definitively. It's somewhat akin to saying "I hate comic books."
The linked series in particular deals a great deal with AR.
Having said that, I am more than sure there is excellent ANIME, I am just not into it which does nothing to hurt the fans of the genre that love it. Some people hate football and love basketball, some even hate comic books, its a very much YMMV type deal.
Me not liking does not take anything away from the genre is what I am saying. -
On the 3-14 Ustream at 53:20 Posi says the new powersets will come to AE eventually™. Guess they are going to wait til at least staff fighting is out and that gives me hope it will be included in with the others that are missing in one feel swoop.
I really do wish this kind of stuff was not jumbled inside a hour long banter secession and would be in print centrally located so everyone can become informed even if they missed the ustream or could not stand 50 mins of banter and 5 mins of information.
I know they think they are doing a good job in communication with the ustream and all, because in some ways they are, but they "really" could use a comprehensive back up in print. -

The threads and inf/inf for IXP that we have right now is not good enough? What have I misunderstood sorry.

Quote:I'd be shocked silly if they actually posted in an AE thread...other than to announce yet another nerf. Nah, they put this toy away in the closet for good because we were not playing right.IS THERE ANY DEV AT ALL THATS LISTENING??!! I'M TIRED OF REPEATING THE SAME STUFF IN EACH THREAD!!!!!!
-
Quote:This. They have indeed ignored truly updating AE less a nerf here and there. I don't see any reason to give the decision to abandon AE a pass, it was in fact a terrible decision.Honestly they really haven't added much new to in quite a long time. Even just some of the powersets that have been out now for awhile (beam rifle anyone?) or things like Warwalkers, etc.. I asked a couple of times on those streaming chats they have from time to time but pretty much got ignored.
It has nothing to do with them personally, just in case someone wants to try to twist it. -
Quote:Ok tyvm for the translation into old folks speak. Being a early 60's baby I try to keep up, but some of the stuff is so beyond my interest/taste it is hard. The series has to do with a society that is heavily into Augmented Reality. Everyone including children interact with objects both real and virtual (via glasses and ear buds). However if somethings are virtual, it also means that the world is hackable. It also means that what you see may not be totally real.
The series, Denno Coil, isn't as metaphysical as some of the dialog blocks found in Ghost in the Shell, but does look at the potential perils of AR. It's a good SciFi topic. -
Quote:I am sorry I have absolutely no idea what that ANIME deal has to do with anything I said. The next generation or two are going to have their own problems
I apologize in advance I can't stand ANIME and have no idea WTH was going on in that video and how that ties into my comments about youth and their ready acceptance of technology. -
Quote:Everyone has their style of choice, nobody is going to hate on you for using the same few buttons if that is your thing, get down with your bad self. Old trials had gimmicks too, er um yes they did and so what never said they didn't.I won't. I hated sitting there clicking the same few buttons over and over again for ten/fifteen minutes, just waiting for his health to slowly drop. I felt like I should have just put one of my best powers on auto-fire and left to make some food or play minesweeper. Once you reach a certain point, more HP stops making a fight challenging and starts making it drawn out and stale.
So it's not like these things are entirely new concepts.
I put the part in bold that if one thinks about it long enough they might realize that could be the underlying issue being addressed or not YMMV. -

Quote:Yeah, that's the horrible decision of which I spoke lol.It does seem a little peculiar that they allow ATO's to be traded but not Cata's. When they were implemented they did not have any plans to allow them to drop so it could be that the way they were implemented stops them from being able to be added as a tradeable item.

Quote:Yeah that was the non trade industry report, which are often very early on and highly inaccurate. The total write down won't come for a bit but The Hollywood Reporter is pegging worst case $53 million write down to $53 million profit best case. THR is notoriously accurate when it comes to this stuff so that is always the source I use.I'd read the write down is around $200 million - plus, for the kind of corp that Disney are, it was way more than just a movie - it was meant to be the launch of a new franchise, with massive amounts of merchandising, new rides and attractions at Disneyworld, and so on - it was a key part of their strategy for the next few years, which is now trashed by its failure.
They certainly can still salvage some element of the merchandising etc.. it just depends on how they decide to handle it. It's not like this has not happened before and won't happen again, these guys are pros and they know how to recover. -

LOL you are bad.

Quote:You make some excellent points that articulate some of the reservations old school folks have with the changing times. I embrace tech, but not at the expense of my personal space. As time goes on I have had to lighten up on letting the world into my personal space. This is one of those things where I feel like I'm falling behind the times. I don't use facebook and myspace, and the only thing my telephone does is make phone calls. Me and my old-time ways of console gaming and laptops...
What I hate is that some Resumés now ask for your facebook page. It is one of those things where it is starting to become a necessity to put up with their crap. Next thing I know, I'm going to have to get one of these glasses because my new job will require us to stream info about stuff that may be happening on the job, and then 90% of the time I'll get adds for Viagra and performance enhancement drugs shoved RIGHT IN MY FACE!
Ah, technology... putting more naughty parts into people's faces.
Kind of sucks but the next generation or two is going to be like what's the big deal. -
This is interesting. I wonder what the ebil marketeers will have to say. Going to get popcorn.
