"...I want to be able to draw the images at 100% their size (that is, just draw and save, no resizing)..."

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Lemme ask... why not resize?

Drawing actual size is significantly harder because of the uncontrolable errors the computer can cause, and controlling each and every pixel is harder than herding cats. If you don't want to go up to 300 dpi, dry drawing at 150 and then sizing back down to 72.

Seriously though, you should resize down. Images look SO much better that way.

"...p.s Don't think I am not putting the second one in my gallery though! ..."

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's all good. I figure the first was kind of a 'rough sketch' - it's yours to show as you like. Since you only requested a single image, however, you'll only get a poster of the second one... I'll keep the wide-format version hostage.
  8. *UPDATE*

Here's a newer version. I chose to switch back to a vertical format so I could push the characters together. I also made some improvements based on feedback from this thread, including adding more powerful effects (Thanks Juggertha) and more dirt to the world (thanks Graver).

It's not finished til TA is happy, but I feel a lot better abot this version.

PS - I rendered this at 200 dpi, so it'll make a grat wall poster at about 20" x 30". Might just have to print 2 copies.

DAMN YOU! >_< Lol, I thought that was an official COX promotional piece <'x'> cause thats how it looks!

    >.> <shakes fist> <;.;> DJ pwnz my eyes again.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, it *is* official. It comes from the Fan Kit. I did 20 renders or so just before the release of COV for Cryptic as a one-time thing. It's completely cool to use as a backdrop since it was released officially by Cryptic.

Sorry for playing with the squirrels

Yeah, I hope my thoughts were taken in the right way. DJ...

    [/ QUOTE ]

No problem, Juggertha... of course they were =)

Comments and critiques are always welcome and I take (most) suggestions seriously, but in the end, as long as TA and I are both happy with the piece, that's all that matters.

However, TA and I chatted about the piece earlier and both of us came up with ideas that could make it stronger... and it turned out some of our ideas overlapped. Even though we both like it as-is, we agree that it can be squeezed for more actiony-goodness. That's typical of a good artist-client relationship and tweaks/corrections/modification are par for the course.

Any artist who isn't willing to make adjustments for their client is doomed to fail.
  12. UPDATE - I just talked with Thor's Assassin on the phone and we've critiqued the piece at length. There's a couple items that we both think could push the scene further, so expect another version shortly...
  13. [ QUOTE ]

Basically, I imagin these two as being rip-roarin' with energy... and this piece isn't there yet. I know almost no one would say this to DJ, but I thought I'd be honest. I might be wrong... but it's my opinion.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The first pass had a LOT more lightning and energy on it, but the effects were obscuring the characters. I chose to town it down a bit. Of course, if TA wants changes, I do the changes =)
  14. At long last, I've been given the opportunity to re-make the models of these two characters. I did them a year ago or so, but the models were under-detailed and I thought they could use an upgrade. I got a couple pieces from Kevin Sharby ("Serbu" on the boards) since his were so incredible, but he based his versions on a different Poser model and some conversion was called for.

"...How do you make clothes in poser? or paint the body?
I was experimenting with poser, but couldnt figure out how to put the warpaint on my dude, or how to make custom clothing for him..."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Making textures in Poser is fairly straightforward. Every model requires a texture to add color to it's surface, and those textures are stored in your Poser 'Runtime > Textures' folders. There will probably be hundreds of folders in there, so you need to poke around and use a little deduction to find the right place. Once you find the texture, all you need to do is paint whatever modifications you want right onto it. DAZ3D.com even provides templates for this.

Making your own models is ten-fold harder. The first step would be to have a 3D modelling program like Maya, Studio Max, or Lightwave. Once you can competently model an object, UV map it, and texture it, you can import it directly into Poser and parent it to a body part. The probem with this is that the object won't bend at all. Making the objects have bends and conform to your model is a science unto itself and I don't fully understand it. I have a book called "Secrets Of Figure Creation for Poser 5" by B. L. Render that describes the process, but I've never personally pulled it off. I find it a LOT simpler to drop a few dollars in one of the many online shops that sell pre-fab parts... then modify them for my own ends.

PS - It isn't a good approach to spam requests like that. If you see an artist you like, try sending them a PM and sarting a dialog.

Host these on Deviantart and you can avoid evil popups.
  19. Man, what a great idea to put the Atlas Globe as a connecting element!! Wish I though of that.

Damn you Brandon and your awesomeness.
  20. Not a bad start at all. Having rendered PlasmaStream myself, I'm familiar with how difficult parts of her can be. I have a couple of suggestions that might strengthen the peice.

Costume Texture - The texture on the costume looks too low rez for the rest of the piece. When textures in a 3D piece have different resolutions, they don't 'play nice' together and it's a little distracting. I'd recommend increasing yor texture to 3000 x 3000 at a minimum since the character is so central and the piece is being rendered fairly large.

Pose - As has been recommended above, the pose is kinda stiff. This is a problem I'm VERY familiar with and I stuggle with it in Poser all the time. Small twists in the hips, shoulders, and neck all help to bring life to 3D characters.

Blur - Since Plasma is moving upwards, it wold be cool to see some blue behind her. Nothing big, mind you... you don't want to slap the viewer in the face with your leet 'speshul effekts'... just a subtle softening of the cape and feet at the very end.

City - The city is cool, but it would be COOLER if you did two things; 1 - add a street so the city blocks have some definition and not look so cramped, and 2 - lower the sun and create some interesting shadows and highlights to push the sense of scale. Cities are incredibly interesting backgrounds, and you can 'get more for less' if you add a park, or parking lot, or highway, or even just an intersection.

BTW Sartori, I hope you don't mind my suggestions. I know you've been working hard at 3D and it's obvious you're making some pretty big strides... you've got a lot of good things happening in your works. Definitely keep it up, man!
  21. Very nice and clean site!

One of these days, I'll crack the armor of Jomaro and get an art trade/collaboration out of him. Mark my words...
  22. Neato! That's off to a great start. Are there plans to color it or is this a B&W piece?

    art help please

    [ QUOTE ]
thanks guys ill try to try the suggestons and jedi I guess I can kinda see what you mean to have my own style would be nice but I need to have the skill and aspects of different styles before I can call a style my own I believe.
    ...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I feel the opposite. For example, I can't critique the hair that sticks up in that spiky manner because it wasn't YOU that made the call to draw it that way... some other artist did. I can't critique the outfit because it was some other artist that designed it.

From the first moment you picked up a pencil, you had your own style. It might not be as developed as you'd like, and you might not be making drawings with the same finish as those you copy... but you DO have a style of your own. Everyone does.

Don't step outside yourself and look for what you can label 'your style'. Just draw. Draw a lot. Draw your own creations.

Believe me, it happens a LOT earlier that you'll expect. In fact, I STILL can't see my 'style' in some of my work, but my wife says my touch just screams from my images. I just draw what I like and it happen automatically.

    [ QUOTE ]
    so can anyone help me?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's difficult to make suggestions without knowing what you can do on your own, when you're not copying something else. Your pieces are all emulations of another syle, so it's difficult to see where your OWN personal strengths and weaknesses might lie. You also mention switching from 'anime' style to 'comic' style... what about 'mysterious_flame' style?
