Poser is just a pencil in digital form - the artist makes the image..
[/ QUOTE ]
Ya know, as much as I LOVE how amazing digital Poser art looks, I just can't agree with that statement right there. I would actually attribute Poser more to photography rather than to pencilwork..."
[/ QUOTE ]
I meant that as a metaphor.
Poser is just a tool, the camera is a tool, the pencil is a tool, the paints are a tool - but the ART comes from the artist. -
[ QUOTE ]
Doug just dump poser please. You're drawings look like you have plenty of artistic ability. Just learn 3d..."
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm often asked why I stick with Poser. The answer is simple; I'm an end-user.
I use Maya extensively and have dabbled in both Lightwave and Studio Max. While they're incredibly powerful, there is no convenient and affordable source of models. Hundreds of thousands of models. High-quality plug-and-play models. For $5 or less.
Poser has such an incredibly vast support base and new items come out daily. They're most often priced below ten bucks and always work. As an end-user, I'm not interested in showing off my l33t modelling skilz and spending 6 months to model and rig a single figure. I'd rather take existing figures, pose and render, then pretty them up in photoshop.
The result is that I can get a good piece done in a couple of evenings. Not months.
It's been my contention that Poser is little more than any other artist's tool, and that (when used properly) can create great images. After all, if you see a great drawing, you congratulate the artist... if you see a poor drawing, you credit the artist... not the pencil.
Poser is just a pencil in digital form - the artist makes the image. If the image is poor, don't blame the software. -
I'm working out the issues of fur even now. Tried to send Rowr a PM about it (clean your PM kitty-box!).
No problem about limiting yourself to just female models if that's your preference. I'll agree that there's a TON more stuff available for the female figures.
In my case, I've received a number of requests for male heroes - some being very rough and tumble, manly types. To solve this issue, I've been forced to model my own gear, make my own textures, and photoshop the parts that look bad in the final render. I do my best to 'knock the Poser out of Poser'. -
[ QUOTE ]
I haven't met too many artists yet 3D Poser style renders of male heroes, I think DJ is one.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's been a phenomenon ever since Poser came out; a vast majority of Poser art is babe-art. In some ways, it's contributed to the negative stigma Poser has been associated with.
It's also too bad Vex has limited himself to babes only. That's effectively cutting out half his potential client base.
Still, nice render. It could use a background, though. But that's just me. -

Subtle, DJ :P

It's a genuine offer. That page just happens to be where I keep my commission info.

I have a couple B&W heroes and heroines on my website, on the commissions page. I put them up for samples of my B&W work, but feel free to use any of them you want... as long as you show me when you're done!
Here's the link for simplicity.

I think there's a little too much lightning, and the lightning is too evenly sized, and too evenly distributed. As a result, the effect looks evenly powered and doesn't have a strong focus.
You could add interest to the bolts if you had a couple thick arcs, several smaller arcs, and dozens of tiny tributaries. Then, make sure the thick arcs are in key spots where you want to imply power... like where his hand is gripping the staff. That way, you could control where the energy of the image is a little tighter. -
This is just a little piece I did one weekend while painting my kid's room...

*EDIT* - Kidding aside, I don't have anything vintage that I'm brave enough to share. -

Thanks for the props, Jeaf... cuz honestly, I think your avatar is pretty solid. I generally don't enter Jomaro's contests for various reasons, but after I saw your cool avatar, I was all "That's cool! I wanna make one of those!" -

WoW I really like that avatar man!!
Very freaking cool!
*edit*
wish I had a clue how to do it!
[/ QUOTE ]
I wish I could explain how the process..lol. If I tried to explain how I did it 90 percent of you guys would be think Im speaking a different language...lol...I used 3 different programs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Uh oh... is that a challenge I hear? Shall I crack out a few of my own programs? heh. -
I think the wing position is next to perfect. If you want to make sure they don't pull your eye out of the frame, you could have the tips fade off so they have less strength as a design element. I wouldn't suggest making them curl.
But yeah... oils? This is gonna look great. But perhaps I'm a little bit biased -
D'OH! I completely forgot! I watched 'The Incredibles' with the kids and spaced the CC completely. Ah well... next time..
-
I'd grab you for an art trade, but I'm sure you're all booked up already.

* Can't wait to get a character onto Graver's art desk... *

If you're looking for art, you've come to the right place. And welcome to this little corner of the boards
There are a number of regular artists that frequent this area, with a wide range of abilities, commission rates, and schedules. The first step will probably be to find someone who's style you like and send them a PM. Give this thread a day and I'm positive you'll have some great responses.
On the other side of the coin, there are some really strong collectors that have worked with the artists. If you'd like to verify an artist's credibility, I'd recommend asking Thors' Assassin, Rowr, Katfood, and several others for references.
Here's my little corner of COH (with additional sample in my sig below);

Yeah I totally look like my character (not toon! grr!)
[/ QUOTE ]
The use of 'toon' doesn't bother me, but I'll make you a deal;
I'll stop using 'toon' if you can get people to stop saying "PST" (Please Send Tell). I mean, what other ways are there to message someone in game other than a tell?
/rant on
Oh, and when someone sends me a tell asking "Can I join ur group?", it's an instant "no". At least "AFK" actually stands for something... but "ur" (and related shortcuts) are just stupid.
/rant off
*We now return you to your previous thread... already in progress* -
Wow, that was VERY cool! It's clear the amount of work that went into it, and it was well worth it.
WEll done! -

"...Hey no problem with asking questions..I tend to ask a lot of questions as well..after chatting with GNF, he does wish to remain anonymous..."
[/ QUOTE ]
Too bad he wants to remain anonymous. That's sad news, because he's very good and would do well in the comics arena. If he's really only 22, he's got a great career ahead of him... but not if he remains hidden. The art world is a difficult place to survive unless he starts getting his name known. -

Hey DJ I thought we agreed on you being the official MMOART nude model?!
[/ QUOTE ]
Aaaww yeah!
I hope all the art students brought oversized sketch pads... -
[ QUOTE ]
"...I'd also like to welcome two new MMOART staff members!..."
[/ QUOTE ]
You're adding more staff members?!? Can I... um... sharpen your pencils or something? I don't make much noise and don't mind sleeping in the corner. -
[ QUOTE ]
Wow very nice! Again I love how detailed your art is!
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
In the sketch on the site, you had the horned villain pointing at the viewer or to something in, which was more powerful. Was there any reason why you changed it to the villain pointing down?
[/ QUOTE ]
I could be wrong, but it's my understanding that Doom_Supremacy isn't the artist of GuildHelper artwork... which would mean that changes to the pencil aren't in his control. I could be wrong, though - the only artist credit I can find on the page is "Pencil/Ink: GNF", so I'm not positive.
Who did the pencils? -
A friend of mine recommended Trillian just today, actually. I think I'll set that up so I have access to all IMs possible.

*Ahem* Speaking of ICQ, I just got it DJ and I have no clue how it works lol. So hit me up with your number handle thingie because I think your PM box is still full too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I got a PM from Lush asking me to pass my ICQ number to you. I'll do that tonight when I'm on my home machine. Whomever decided to limit our PM storage is a horrible, horrible person.
I have stuff to talk to you about as well, so it'll be good to open up that channel. -

I DO have ICQ! 3960310!
Just turned it on too!
And I have MSN as well!

ICQ it is then. You'll get a ping from me tonight.
