I think it was Mantid.
I am not sure though.

Thanks! You rock! -
Hey all,
Remember a while back, someone posted a movie that showed all the dings from lvl 1 - 50? Anyone have that link?
Thanks. -

No worries on my end; Sharby is top-notch.
I've already done my version of Pagan Priest, actually. We just haven't revealed it yet. It's in the 'coming soon' section of my computer. -
Requesting screenshots of a costume piece is fine; this is the right place for that.
Telling people you don't want their opinions before they even have a chance to reply isn't fine. By typing that disclaimer, the OP has already judged the community and anticipated an attack... which the artists here don't do without provocation.
In my particular case, you lost me with the l33t sp34k (which isn't a first language, so I don't buy that excuse); if it's not worth your time to type out your request, it isn't worth mine to comply. -

It's nice but, it seems to be missing the DarkJedi touch, I don't know what that is, if its the finer details or something else...
[/ QUOTE ]
Hm. Interesting. I'll look at it in more detail and reconsider some aspects.
And no worries about expressing you opinion about various pieces - honest, thoughtful critique is never offensive. I know I can't please everyone all the time, so I don't even try. Some things appeal to some people, and other things stand out to others... it's the way of things.
I also feel an artist can't learn and grow without critique, and no lessons are learned if someone only succeeds. Failure is a wonderful teacher if taken in the proper light, and I learn from failures on every piece. That's how I continue to push and grow my works.
My friend was happy with it, so that was a primary goal. It was a free piece, after all. ;p
A secondary goal (that has not yet been met) was to make a perfect Captain America. Due to this and other critiques, I'll evolve the model and hopefully improve it further.
Thanks for your input, and everyones'!
What a great community. -
Over the years, the supergroup of which I'm a member has become a pretty tight-nit, extended family. As a result, I know many of them very well and their characters are like the Justice League or the Avengers to me - old friends.
It's not hard to be inspired by them and I'm constantly doodling comics, cartoons, and even renders of the various members. This piece is a surprise gift to a fellow LoneSTAR member named CHIEF JUSTICE, who's tireless efforts both in and out of game have helped make Paragon a better place.
For the record, the character of Chief Justice is patterned after none other than Marvel's own "Captain America" (although he hates Rikti and not Fascists). Thus, the image below.
CHIEF JUSTICE and some other guy... -
Woo! Light-Speed made it into one!! ...and not only that, she's all rainbow and colorful! It's perfect.
Thanks =) -

1) For your main toon only, taking into account that you're high level and not at current SG levels, what is your namesake's origin and Archetype?
[/ QUOTE ]
Light-Speed is my main (even though I go by Darkjedi on the boards. She's a Mutant Fire/Fire Blaster.

2) When facing the first mob of the room, or one of those giant open rooms with like 4 groups of mobs, what is your favorite first attack?
[/ QUOTE ]
Fireball! I love how it really breaks up a party. I used to do the old Aim/Build-up routine, but that took too long - it's TONS more fun to watch em all running about, burning.
[ QUOTE ]
3) Please give me the name, what the animation looks like on your end, and or what happens to the mob when it hits them.
[/ QUOTE ]
As described above, a well-placed Fireball lights em up and keeps em running! Follow that with a Rain Of Fire and you have endless fun.

4) What's your favorite/least favorite mob to face...

I love to fight Vahz since they can't run away too fast and take extra damage from Fire. I gotta say, I'm not a fan of the Sappers (Malta).
Here's some handy-dandy references =)

I was inspired by Doug's amazing Vanguard piece...

Not only was that a very kind thing to say... the piece is AMAZING. I love the cartoon style. -

Bummer I missed the boat on this! But what a great laugh during work hours! Quite a few laughs even! Can't wait for the rest!

Same here. I'm loving these, though! Hopefully I can get Light-Speed into a second run (if there is one). Great work, and a cool tribute to Schultz. -
Hey AV! I'm glad you're posting these here. Our SG has been fortunate enough to enjoy these for the past year or more, so it's great that they'll get more exposure.

/bummed Light-Speed didn't make the cut. So many forums... so little time...

Happy Birthday, Brandon.
Wish I knew earlier - I could have had a certain project done a little quicker -
I've always wondered what the epic quests were like, and feared. Here's my impression;
Gandulf: (Broadcast) "N E 1 else got teh 'One Ring' quest? LFG if U do."
Legolass22: "Hey, I have the One Ring too. Let's group up."
Gandulf: "N-vite me, nub."
Fro-doh: "Nub? Heh... I did that quest last week. It's cake if you take the secret passage through Shelob's lair, near Minas Morgul. If you need help, check out Allakhazam - I did a full writeup on it."
GimlEE-69: "Hey, I have the One Ring too. Can I join ya?"
Boromiiir: "I also have a One ring. Invite plz."
(And thus, Tolkien begins to spin in his grave...) -
Know what's cool? Everyone seems to like different ones! I find that particularly enjoyable.
And yeah, AZA... when I was making the "Hyper" piece, I was thinking how much I wish I could have put my own character in there. I figured the similarities would not be missed. -

I'm with TA, this is an insta-fav once it hits dA!

Thanks everyone. I'll be adding this to DA this weekend. I want Sparky to take one last look before we call them done (plus, I'll have more time on Saturday to upload them properly).
This was an awesome project to tackle. When I first started the modelling work, I admit I was somewhat intimidated and didn't get a lot of progress in the initial stages. I put the city-scape together as one massive panorama and the rest started to fall into place. For the last couple of weeks, the momentum really picked up and it all came together.
Glad you're all liking them =) -
After something like 6 months, I'm proud to present 5 characters created for Sparky!
This was a massive commission and has taken me a LONG time to produce, but he was patient throughout the entire process and I'm very greatful for his flexibility on these. Each image was created to stand on it's own, and yet they (kinda) line up to form a big panoramic view of Paragon. To show the overall view, I'm including the five pieces placed together in the proper viewing order to make the city line up.
Enjoy =)

Sartori,
You're definitely getting better at these. I particularly like the face you chose for the lead character - it has a lot of life to it, which many Poser faces don't. I also like that you chose the Freak body for the big thug-guy. Good call on that one.
Interestingly, I've been working on a piece for my OWN Mastermind and considered using the same set for the background. Having seen your piece, I'll steer clear of using it.
For the record, I usually render my pieces in several stages and then composte them together in the end. That system gives me the most flexibility in the postwork process, which is very important when using Poser. -

Oh, no no no. No offense taken.
I like good discussions of all things art. Sorry if I came off too harshly. -

"...I'd have to gently disagree with only 11 levels of touching pencil to paper..."
[/ QUOTE ]
When I said 11, I was being sarcastic - but my point still stands that the human hand is incabable of making over 512 levels of pressure, and the human eye is incapable of discerning between 512 levels of grey.
Assuming that having 1024 levels of sensitivity means they're all useful and worth spending money on is like assuming 2400 DPI printing is worth the extra expense... even when it's generally accepted that 300 DPI is the most necessary for printing; just because they're there doesn't mean it's worth hard-earned bucks to have them. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ok I'm thinking about getting a tablet now as well and have decided on the 6x8 but I wanna know what the difference between 512 and 1024 sensitivity is. The 1024 is almost double the price and I need to know if I'm going to be noticing that much of a difference for that big of a price jump. Thanx guys!
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't fall into the trap of paying double for something that isn't that big of a deal. Pressure-sensitivity is a must for tablets, but can anyone really tell the difference whether I pressed "648 hard" or "649 hard"?
When people draw, I figure they're pressing with a number of different sensitivities;
REALLY light
mostly light
pretty light
fairly light
kinda medium
medium
kinda harder than medium
kinda hard
pretty hard
very hard
MASHING DOWN AND BREAKING LEAD hard
That's 11 levels of sensitivity so far. That leaves us with 501 levels to go and we're still within range of the cheaper tablet.
Seriously, go with the cheaper one. You'll never miss those extra levels. -
Wow, Graver...
Your narratives are always so complete, and this piece is no exception. You mentioned that you did some experimentation with mediums, but I don't see where anything falls short.
Great work. -
It's not complete though... no Light-Speed.
Great work Brandon! Group shots can be tough to put together and balance. -
I use a standard .5 mm mechanical pencil as well. I have for 20+ years and love it. Sometimes it's pentel, sometimes it's bic... I don't think the brand matters.
IMO, the secret to good pencils is in the USER, not the equipment. If someone tries to tell you that you need to invest money into different lead hardnesses, don't fall for it; a well-trained hand can make a pencil do any lightness you need... it's just a matter of practice and patience (and a very light touch).
Pencil has been my favorite medium for many years, so it's a topic near and dear to me =)
