Quote:Wow, thanks!BTW- I added TCOSR to the GoodReads.com library. It's what I use on Facebook to share my reads/reveiws with friends since Visual Bookshelf closed up shop.
I hope I got all the book info right, I mainly copy/pasted from the scribd listing.I'm glad you enjoyed it that much, and sure, not a problem. I was planning one of these years to write an actual 'back cover blurb' for it, but I guess I should do that sooner than later!
EDIT:
Quote:Dr. Raymond Keyes had all but given up on ever finding a relationship. Although brilliant in a laboratory and eloquent at conferences, he was all too awkward and tongue-tied around women to find the right one. Then, of course, the whole superhero gig didn't exactly help - spending his nights as Positron, knight in shining body armor and scientist of the Freedom Phalanx, didn't leave him much in the way of free time, either. So he was understandably surprised when a relationship found HIM... and his life would never be the same.
****
Dr. Sorina Tavarisch somehow never had life go as she'd planned. Her quiet life went out the window when the world was invaded, and her skills as a physicist and electrical engineer, desperately needed in time of war, drew her out of her laboratory and onto the battlefield. Finally, after five years as a soldier, and then three more as a superhero scientist with the Star Patrol, she thought she had everything under control. Until she asked a colleague and fellow hero out for dinner one night... and life turned her whole world upside down yet again.
****
Now two of Paragon City's smartest scientists are about to get a crash course in relationships, whether it's a date interrupted by a Rikti assault, putting up with teasing teammates, or dealing with a group of supervillains whose sole goals are taking over the world and killing them in the process. But some things are just beyond any rational, scientific explanation... one of which happens to be love.
Fighting crime. Falling in love. Saving the world. It's all just part of...
THE COURSE OF SUPERHERO ROMANCE.
A novel set in the CITY OF HEROES universe.

Quote:First, congrats. So, I am engaged. Hurray! My friends and I decide to have a good old fashion LAN party. Hurray! It just so happens that the date for our party lands on double xp weekend. Huzzah!
Then double xp weekend gets delayed. Boo!
Then double xp weekend is set up for this weekend. The weekend of my wedding. The one weekend where CoH will not be getting my attention.
I got 2 people to re-sub for the LAN party, and not only do they move double xp weekend, but taunt me with it by making sure I can never have it.
In all seriousness, I am thrilled to be marrying my best friend in this world. Really, CoH isn't even in the same ballpark of importance to me (sorry devs).
Still, since it looks like it will actually start on Thursday, I MIGHT be able to get a few missions in with my Dominator that I have just started to really enjoy. That I was hoping to get up in levels. At the LAN party.
Enjoy the weekend, all!
Second, does the future spouse play COH? If so, cue the short-short-version of the wedding and start your marriage off right with level-pacted characters conceived on your wedding night. Everyone lies about their wedding night anyway, so you may as well take advantage of the fact that people think you'll be celebrating the rites of spring all night.
Third, why not take a bit of time from that weekend and have an in-game wedding? Invite your COH friends who couldn't come to the actual shindig and party it up.

Quote:Apart from the fact that there is a reputation, a mystique almost, that goes with being in the FP? That they (to some) represent THE supergroup of Paragon City?Heh. I'm going to mirror the fellow who asked me upstream and ask you, Michelle - Why do you want him IN the Phalanx?
I suppose I could turn it on its head and go, "No, don't include him. After all, they accept ANY schmuck who runs all over town, and beats up 100 Fake Nems, 100 Gears (talk about the big to the small), and 100 Freak Tanks in the process."

Quote:Thank you, Kheldarn. *hug*Log in to the Beta Server. Go to Atlas Park. Open your map, and reselect all the crap that gets deselcted, specifically Trainers. You'll find that Brawler is near the top-right corner of the map. Head over there, and you'll find a PPD station.
Go inside, and find Brawler. Click on him, and in the window that pops up, click on Ask About This Contact.
The result:
Brawler is a member of the Freedom Phalanx.
If he wasn't meant to be, then someone screwed up big time including him in the Sig Arc Promo art.

Not thrilled about it being at the E&C again, but c'est la vie. I will still be there, SUPERHEROROMANCE t-shirt and all.

People have complained that your AE buildings are everywhere... that they lack the neighborhood aesthetic sense... but they now each house an incontrovertible truth: that the esteemed Back Alley Brawler is in fact, without question, a member of the Freedom Phalanx.
As Positron himself has validated your system and your work, we can now put to rest this troublesome issue. Your databases now enshrine the information that we, the play-... um... the heroic and villainous participants and creators within your entertainment system have sought. For that, we owe you our thanks.
Yours sincerely,

Ladies and gentlemen, we have an OFFICIAL in-game inclusion of Brawler in the Phalanx.
Posting the screenshots now...
Sanctioned by none other than Dr. Aeon himself (both the dev AND the scientist)... here we have AE proof. http://twitpic.com/63mve4
In other words, take it up with Sean and have him fix it, or else BAB is an official FP member! http://twitpic.com/63mvnw

For that matter, when did Numina become a member of the Phalanx? She was one of the Midnight Squad up to (and since) her death.
Citadel I can understand because Positron practically rebuilt him from scratch... but she's (technically) one of the 'Surviving Eight' (not that you can really call her current state 'survival')...
Still checking game lore for BAB's inclusion in the FP... though Zombie Man beat me to the links.
EDIT: OH DUH... just had an idea of where to look, and if I'm right, it's an officially sanctioned inclusion.

I'm really, really sorry guys... I don't have a full-on knockout trailer to offer you to celebrate VIP beta launch day (mainly coz this was as much of a surprise to me as it was to you guys). So the uber-spiffy D_R trailer will probably go live with the actual launch date, whenever THAT is.
On the bright side... this means you might have your chance to be in said trailer. So I'll see you in the beta!

Took me 4 months still to find a job up here, but at least here I had interviews almost once a week. Phoenix I'd go MONTHS without even getting to the phone interview round.Bothell, and I know where Lynnwood is. What jobs were you plugging at, because I only found work after MUCH tribulation up here.

You mean to tell me that for the past 3 years I've been in the same state as the legendary Dark Respite?
And within 20 minutes, no less?

Quote:Also, I hope they found a better venue for the Meet and Greet than the little hole in the ground they used last year.Quote:M&G was in a very small room at a nearby hotel restaurant with insufficient seating. Many people had to sit upstairs at the bar to hang out and then pile in to the room for the raffle. Im guessing they didn't expect that many people to show or overestimated the venue size.Quote:For the love of $deity, PLEASE!! I *hate* that place. There are *way* too many City fans to stuff into that tiny little bar.
However: don't do it the way (PAX East?) did it; all of the NCsoft games got stuck together into one big ballroom, and all City got was a tiny table in a tiny corner. Aion and Lineage/L2 got 80% of the ballroom. GW/GW2 got a corner that was a little bigger than City's. Don't do that.Quote:Elephant & Castle is a good pub, but yeah it's not a great venue for the CoH meet'n'greet. It's too too too flaming hot in that basememt room when full of people. Maybe if we could take over the outdoor seating, but that's unlikely to fly with the management.
How about somewhere with open outdoor seating (barring rain) and we just crowd everyone else out?
Be that as it may, though, I live in Seattle, so I will be at the M&G one way or another. Just look for the loudmouth chick in the shades and the SUPERHEROROMANCE t-shirt.

Quote:Some info can be found on the Paragon Wiki in the "Project FURY" article. However, the BIG source is the first COH novel, "Web of Arachnos." You can probably find it at a bookstore without TOO much trouble. (They're not mentioned at all in the second COH book, "The Freedom Phalanx", except in very brief passing.)EDIT: Where can I find some information on the Furies/What Story Arc are they a part of?
They're mentioned every now and again in a couple of Arachnos arcs, but not much.
*sigh*
One of my personal gripes with this game is how rich of a history and lore it has, and how little they really go back and use it.
*****
FWIW, if you like my writing, you can always try my AE arcs (if they work - just search @Samuraiko in the AE and you'll find all mine). Otherwise, hit my website (link in a slightly earlier post where you found the PDF) and troll my other writing.

Quote:First, before I forget my manners, thank you for the compliments. Not sure about the term "fap-fiction", that's a new one for me! But as long as I avoided it, so far so good.Well, I just finished the first story...
And honestly? I can't complain about anything. As far as I've seen, you've followed lore. You didn't turn this into some fap-fiction. You've fleshed out characters properly and appropriately. I'm not sure about the Furies part, but heck that looks like it might have been written around the time the Incarnate Trials came out.
Nice portrayal of all the characters, as well as an acceptable amount of drama. I also enjoyed the way you explained all of the in-game events so they would actually look like dramatic, action-filled combat scenes instead of how they are represented in the game. You did an amazing job, and I honestly think your fan-fiction has the potential to draw in some more players to the CoX universe.
Of course, I'm not one for romance fan-fics, but the end nearly had me B'aawing.
... Just -how long- did you pester Positron and other members of the Freedom Phalanx for help in your story?
Ironically, the Furies' storyline was written well before Incarnate trials made their appearance. (The whole story was written and completed before Issue 15, actually - I just checked, so I beat iTrials and the whole Incarnate thing by a little over two years.) They're actually based upon in-game lore as well - an offshoot of the canon mission "Project Fury".It's unreal just how much lore really IS in this story, and there's still more to come!
As for pestering Posi and the gang...
It started out as only pestering two people - Hero 1 (because at the time, he was the story bible guy - I started this well before Dr. Aeon and Protean were hired at PS!) and Positron (coz it's his character). I asked:
Quote:"1) how old is Positron (the character)?
2) is he involved with anyone?
3) does he ONLY do superhero work anymore or does he still have any interaction with the scientific/technological/academic community?
I'm curious because it's become something of a running gag (for lack of a better term) for our SG on Justice that our group's resident theoretical physicist/gadgeteer occasionally meets with Positron to discuss tech matters, science, and whatnot. And now as a result, her teammates tend to tease her about secretly dating him (although she has denied all allegations of involvement of any kind other than professional with the superhero).
Since now our SG has a website, and our leader is encouraging us to put stories on there, I'd like to do one or two of Dr. Tavarisch and Positron and how everyone rags on her, but I wanted to see if this is a storyline I should stop in its tracks coz Posi is unavailable/too old/not interested/gonna steer her towards Synapse instead/whatever."
Quote:"I pinged Matt on this. Here's what he gave me:
1) Early 40s
2) No, but thats not to say he wouldnt be dating if the opportunity presented itself. He probably only goes for really smart, brainy type women.
3) All he does now is hang out in Steel Canyon and watch n00bs get pwn3d. Err, I mean, yes, he does scientific work in between hero missions."
So I started writing TCOSR.
(Actually, that's not quite true - at HeroCon 2009, I did ask Hero 1 in person a couple questions about Praetorian Earth that I needed answered, and FWIW, I actually anticipated the official in-game storyline by about a year and a half. More on that in future.)
Now, I have it on the best authority that Matt has NEVER read it (and I don't think he ever will), probably because on a personal level, I kinda weird him out. But that's okay.
Don't forget to start on Part II (which is a work in progress, so no PDF, I'm afraid... yet).
