  1. I visit Virtue once a year to help out the Real World Hero folks. That's it. Otherwise, it's Justice all the way.

  2. There's also the OpenSource program CamStudio, which is my "when FRAPS doesn't work" backup program.

When demorecording, I tend to export the demofiles to JPG, compile them in VirtualDub and render them as an AVI. Then I edit the vid files in Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum, and save the end file as a WMV - high quality without being humongous like an AVI is.

  3. Stan and Lou - OMG, I loved those.

My personal favorite is the one when they're in a warehouse guarding a crate (they don't know what's in it), discussing the "woo woo woo" noise, then one of them 'clicks' on it and it stops making noise, and all of a sudden they no longer know which crate is the one they're supposed to be guarding.

Why do we have to guess the answers to basic questions like "Who actually founded Freedom Corp. and what was its original mission?" or even "Who currently runs Freedom Corp?" or "What state is it currently in now that its headquarters is so much meteor rubble?"

Galaxy Girl has the most extensive bio of any hero outside of the Freedom Phalanx, and she'd beat most of them out too if it wasn't for the _Freedom Phalanx_ novel. Even so, that bio amounts to a few paragraphs. The average NPC hero is fortunate to get more than a couple of sentences. We still know zilch-all about Hero Corp. and we only know anything about the Midnight Club because it became integral to the game environment. If you want to know what the background of the Midnight Club would be like (and was like in the earliest issues of the game) if it had not become integral to the game, then just ask yourself what you actually know, and can verify in-game, about the Dawn Patrol?

We have been told multiple times over the years that this world has this rich history and had that history hinted at in dribs and drabs as evidence of this supposed depth. We never get the actual history, though. The zone history plaques and certain exploration badges are the closest we've ever come to realizing most of what we know about the game world (and now Matt has assured us that what we do know doesn't necessarily matter anyway because that's old stuff written by somebody who doesn't work there any more and therefore no longer relevant). We're assured that there's a hearty meal here, but all we're given is snacks.

Basically, it's all frosting and no cake.

I realize that I do not represent the majority in caring about this and so I don't expect things to change. I just wish that the studio would see their way clear to once again hire a story content creator like Arctic Sun who does care about it and wants to put the effort into expanding it and elucidating it.
Agreed. For all that I come across as a dev fangirl, this is one of the few things that just drives me mad. I have long since been lobbying for the devs to make this info available to the playerbase (supposedly it's a word document, but now they have an internal wiki - or at least that's what Joe Morrissey told me at one of the HeroCons).

If it's no longer being used because it's outdated/irrelevant/whatever, let us see it as an example of how a game's canon lore was initially conceived. How much did THEY flesh out certain groups? Why were certain things changed (names, origins, whatever)? Why were certain things brainstormed but NOT developed?

However, I *SUSPECT* that the reason why they don't do it is because a) IF they ever go back and mine it for ideas, there's a major potential for spoilers, b) if they don't do it exactly as they detailed it (especially if the idea was a good one), the players will howl about it/bait and switch/we were lied to/not what was promised/insert other player rant here, or c) the players will immediately point out why they SHOULDN'T have used said idea because of how it breaks SOMETHING (canon lore/their own personal history/whatever).

Still wish they'd release it, though.

And now that Dominatrix is jumping ship from Praetoria... pretty sure it won't be long before he turns up as well.

I could almost see SOME optimistic soul (such as Positron) telling him, "Okay, look - we know Tyrant treated you like crap. But you've got a gift. If you're even remotely serious about wanting to put your tech to use for a halfway worthwhile cause, here."

And turn him loose on a zone like Crey's Folly or Eden. (Although by all that's holy, keep him away from Terra Volta.)

  11. The Mortimer Kal has a nifty cutscene where you square off against Positron, and features your entire team.

Seconding the idea that the newer cutscenes are cool - the fact they now have moving camera angles lends them a new aesthetic sense.

Seconding this, based on conversations I've had with Protean. For the moment, at least, AntiMatter is alive, although his current whereabouts are unknown.

  13. Okay, now that was cool. Of the two 'halves', the second was DEFINITELY better, playing more to the "Ocean's Eleven" vibe, but both were very well done!

  17. *sighs at the irony of a Summer Blockbuster event where the trailer for said event wasn't released earlier*

However, the COH Twitter feed says that supposedly we're getting a trailer for this one... I so hope they play up all the movie cliches (green THIS TRAILER HAS BEEN APPROVED screen, over the top music, fake reviews, all that).

EDIT: OMG, I just had an idea - you know how theatres have a concessions stand mini-promo before the movie starts? (Some bubbly upbeat thing zooming around smiling and showing off all the stuff you can get...)

They need an icon of Golden Girl, all winkies and so on, zooming around the theatre showing off the features of the release (new graphics, new mechanic, whatever), almost like this demented version of Tinkerbell racing around before waving her wand and producing the Disney logo.

  19. I'd actually like to see a 'smaller' version of Skyway done, with part of it wrecked like it looks at the end of the Sutter Task Force. Tightening up the zone might not be a bad idea (not unlike what got discussed at the Pummit for Independence Port).

Lessee, we've got "going out on patrol," "researching Incarnates"... how many other euphemisms have NumiTron got going on?

  21. I just had a thought...

You've seen the guy punching someone in the stomach who's lying on the ground, and they're doing that flopflopflop animation. I don't know how well it might work with the person standing up (you'd have to mess with the PYR, perhaps)...

Or how about the out of breath emote, where the person is wheezing and is bent over, hands on knees?

I gather from the FREEDOM PHALANX novel that before the accident, he stayed in good shape because there's not exactly a lot of room in the armor for pudginess. As for once DW gave him his body back, one would think that if Posi had even an iota of sense, he'd do everything he could to maintain that level of shape.
