Quote:It's something that I (and several others) continue to campaign very hard for, and for which I was grateful to find out from Viridian and Protean (two of the Paragon writers) at the most recent Player Summit that they are very much going back to earlier storylines and referencing them in newer stuff.Risking flamage here.
My question is:
With so much of the player base seeming to be
racing to the endgame with their new shinies,
why does Lore matter?
or, more helpfully/less snarky, how can we make
Lore matter more?
And it's not like I haven't TRIED to make players more aware of the lore...

For the more lore-interested among us:
You have the entirety of the COH canon (including the comics and the novels) to choose from. What is the one lore question you would most want answered, and why?
I will slightly broaden it to allow a variant of this question - what is the one in-game character you want to know more about, and why?
(I can't quite answer this question myself yet - I have so much that I want to know that I hardly even know where to start.)
I anticipate this to be a potentially spoiler-heavy thread, so if you don't want them, I'd advise you to visit another thread.

Sorry, Arcana, I hadn't clicked on that until now (I was in a rush when I first saw it).
I was waiting for the camera to tilt afterward and for the ships to come by...
Now I am thinking about casting the Paragon Studios team in the roles... But Zwill kinda sorta has to be C3PO... Or Maybe Zwill should play everyone? A One-Man Star Wars: Episode/Issue 24.
Hmmm...
- Black Pebble is Vader. (The Emperor is NCsoft in general - Black Pebble is just their ranking minion who chokes off the overeager employees.)
- War Witch is Leia - the supposed damsel in distress who actually spends most of her time telling people what to do (and they do it!).
- Dink and Tunnel Rat are tied for the role of R2-D2 - the completely unprepossessing type who always manages to do the near impossible.
- Zwill is C-3PO - he translates from player to dev to marketing, etc, is often a victim of circumstance, his advice is often ignored...
- Arbiter Hawk is Han Solo - devil-may-care, cheerful, "I'll make it work... SOMEHOW"... although given his occasional fuzzy look, he'd work for Chewbacca. Or maybe an Ewok.
- Protean is Yoda - looks harmless, loves talking in riddles, enjoys driving people mad, and intensely focused in his own weird way.
- Positron is Obi-Wan - the grizzled mentor who's been there, done that, and even after War Witch struck him down, he became more powerful than she could possibly imagine...
- Arbiter 'Mod 9' Fabulous is Luke Skywalker - the daydreamer who found himself thrust into the heart of chaos and conflict while still retaining his purity of heart, never forgetting his common roots.

My tech-origin grav/kin controller uses it as a training exercise to see how well she can apply the tactical experience she's gained over time while restricting which programs she runs through her gauntlets.

While I am sad that Fab's no longer living the dream over with you guys at Paragon, this FINALLY means that he can call me to say hello and the first words out of his mouth no longer have to be "oh God, I wish I could tell you about something".
Don't worry, Zwill, he didn't tell me anything. He was resolute and closed-mouthed to the end.

PS - btw, Zwill, if you are working your way through some 'rabid fan as intern' list, when is it my turn? -

My personal theory is that if it's longer than 7-10 missions, and it's NOT a task force, it's too long.
I agree with GadgetDon that it'd be great to see one old arc PER SIDE updated per issue, one old TF maybe every other issue (since they can be a bit more intensive) or maybe leapfrog the TFs - first issue villain TF, second issue hero TF, third issue villain TF, etc.

Tie for first place = Fusionette, Doc Delilah, and Lady Jane.
Any NPC whose sole goal is to get you killed while you are TRYING TO HELP HER is just beyond the pale.

Quote:Hey, I'm currently working on THIS...No, you have the mental image of the Freedom Phalanx doing that song and leaving one by one... in the order we predict they'll be killed off.
Now, get out of video-production-retirement and make it a reality.
You know you wanna. And a couple other things.
Although I might add that to CoVIDEOHELL: THE MUSICAL.

Actually I didn't know they planned on fixing the text errors. How extensive is said fix supposed to be? Just the glaringly obvious ones like how Positron is now the grandfather of Ms. Liberty?
Or *gasp* dare I hope that they are pulling a major spell check on the game and fixing it all?
If they do that, I will take up a collection so I can order the largest food basket I can find online and send it to Paragon Studios.

Now I have this mental image of the COH community team all doing that song, and leaving one by one. It's amusing yet depressing.

Soon™.Quote:Technically that is an announcement about announcing the announcement of the date of the Issue 24 announcement page. Its an announcement that the announcement of the announcement of the date of the Issue 24 announcement page is being planned. Are there other planning announcement announcement announcements being planned for announcement? Or are you just going to announce the announcement announcement without further announcement announcement planning?

Quote:I'd asked Zwill during a previous Coffee Talk if they were keeping to the once-a-month thing or if that had only been for SSA1. According to Zwill, the once-a-month thing is for each SSA. So with luck, SSA2.2 should hit Live soon(tm). So it's been more than a month since the release of Pandora's Box part 1, part 3 is in beta, and I believe the part 4 contact for the villainside is live in Sharkhead (with a swag-tastic pith helmet) so in light of all this I and a friend are left wondering: where is part 2?
Have they decided to withdraw the "once a month" aspect of the SSA? Was that only for Who Will Die? Or do they just want more time to keep content tested and fine tuned to avoid the almost universally poor reception of the first SSA?

"WE WANT IT NOW"
(Sung by the playerbase to the tune of "I Want It Now" from WILLY WONKA)
Player base:
Power pools! New rules!
We want this issue before end of summer
Zwillinger:
You will, guys...
Player base:
Coz we all want to play!
Zwillinger:
Anything you say
Player base:
And by the way
Zwillinger:
What?
Player base:
We want a blaster!
Zwillinger:
Um, you've already got several...
Player base:
A no-crash nuke blaster!
Zwillinger:
Oh, one of those
Player base:
None of this crap where we nuke half the map and then need a long nap-
Zwillinger:
You can have all those things when the issue's released
Player base:
No, now!!
We want more powers!
Make Presence USEFUL!
Give each pool more stuff, and make Fighting MORE buff,
Give Kheldians SOME luv...
Give it to us!
ARRGH!
NOW!
We want the game!
We want the whole game!
Whether we farm it or just want to narm it
WE WANT IT NOW, DARN IT!
GIVE IT TO US
NOW!
We want it today
No, not tomorrow
We want to take it and totally break it
SO HURRY AND MAKE IT!
We want an entirely new graphics engine
Break things to make it all fit
And if it's not everything we have imagined
We will /ragequit!
We want it patched!
A game engine unmatched!
Revamping bases, new costumes and faces
We'll STAY on your cases
And how!
Don't care how
We want it now!
Don't care how
We want it now!

Here's my idealistic-to-the-point-of-naive take on the base system:
Implement an entirely new base system from the ground up, but give SG leaders the option to "Leave my base as-is"/"Update to new system" (or even wipe it out and start from the beginning).
Leave the legacy system in place, but flatout state that NO MORE WORK is going to be done on it... EVER. If you love your base to pieces and don't want to use the new system, fine - but don't grouse that it's not getting any more support.
At any time, you can switch to using the NEW system, but you cannot revert to the old one - once you upgrade, it's gone, too bad.

I cannot remember which of my warped friends did this, but one of them worked with a girl who dragged hers with her everywhere she went. Including to work. Then one night she accidentally left it there. Said friend immediately snagged it, took it home, parked it in front of the TV with an... um... adult station running the entire time, then brought it in to work again.
To say that this thing would blurt out the most unreal things at the most inappropriate time would be the understatement of the century.
