And ABSOLUTE KUDOS to Hex Girl for the article on chest sliders - except now there's root beer all over my monitor from me laughing.

You know, I don't know if I've mentioned this, but I want to say THANKS to DarkEther and the mods for making sure this post stays up-to-date. It feels good knowing that those of us who are videographers have other folks who respect our work enough to tell others about it!

(And I've watched/will be watching all of the videos here - you never know what you can learn by studying someone else's work!)

So yeah... thanks. That's all I wanted to say.

  5. As one videomaker to another, you have my sympathies for how chaotic a casting call can be. I'd love to audition, but a) I don't have TeamSpeak, and b) I just don't have the time!

But I wish you the best of luck, and look forward to seeing (and hearing) the finished product!

Don't forget to post a link to your finished video in the FAN VIDEOS thread so we can add it to our sticky post!

  6. Hey did someone make sure this ends up on the Fan Videos page yet?

(BTW, nice work - and I agree about the speech bubbles thing.)

  7. The only problem I've noticed on the w00tstudios site after having mine hosted there for the CoC contest is that it cuts off the right side of my video (like a wonky margin).

For myself, while I'm not overly fond of YouTube, it's a convenient place for the low-rez versions of my stuff, while the high-rez versions go on my own website (and those are not embedded- they are just set for download).

And while I fully understand the need for a size limit (first to reduce storage, and second to reduce bandwidth), that's a limitation that I can avoid just by hosting on my own servers... and I intend to create some BIG videos for this game.

My format of choice is WMV because not everyone has (or can use) the DivX codecs (and most video editing software spazzes when you IMPORT DivX stuff).

But I wish you the best of luck with your site, and certainly appreciate you playing host to the contest!

PS - sorry if this rambles, I'm stlil waking up.
  8. Just an FYI to SuperOz...

I personally use the demorecord feature and then play it back using Zloth's Demo Player so I can remove the HUD. The only time I record in-game stuff using FRAPS is when I need to record the passage of time (ie, the sun or moon moving across the sky), because that is the one thing it seems a /demorecord will not capture.

In that instance, your best option is to close all HUDs save the top righthand one (the one with your menu) and FRAPS-film the scene, then crop your footage in the editing program of your choice.

  9. For those having problems with the videos:

Took me a few tries to figure this out - if you don't already have Mozilla Firefox as a browser, download it for free and install it. Then go to each commercial's page on the w00tstudios.net site, wait about fifteen seconds, then right-click on where it should be and select PLAY.

Works virtually every time (and it allows for enough download/buffer time for the whole thing to play without lag, depending on your internet connection speed).

A couple of people uploaded videos that require plugins (doesn't matter if you're using IE or FF or whatever), but this method should play the vast majority of them without problem.

  10. Well, I can't speak for anyone else's, but mine is available on YouTube. If you go to YouTube.com and search for Samuraiko Productions, all of my videos come up - the commercial that took 2nd place is called "Countdown to the Future."

  12. WMM has its uses... and it's a good learning tool. But when you're ready to 'graduate', WMM just won't cut it.

After Effects is still a program I'd like to nab to try...

But the one I REALLY want to get (and learn)... is Maya.

  13. Twelve hours later and I'm still laughing about this. When I logged in earlier, I was like, "When I get home, there's going to be PAGES of vitriolic spewing and ranting because some people are either half-asleep, ignorant, or willfully stupid."

    Sure enough...

As for "what do the healing powers sound like?"

    "SH-ZOOM!"
*pause, and the healed player has a text bubble displaying...*
    "I got better!"

Then for stuff like Howling Twilight or the other rez powers...
    *LA-HAAAAAAAAAH!*
    "I'm not dead yet!"

  14. I am so glad I remembered today was the first, otherwise I'd really feel like an idiot, but I agree that it would make a nifty add-on.

Okay - now I have to troll this post for a list of all available 'visual sound effects' and put them all in my I-12 trailer. Unless someone would like to start a thread of what all the visual sound effects should be (and FREEM! is at the top of the list)...

  15. I GOT SECOND! GO ME!

    *happy dances*

And no, I think I want to hold onto the t-shirt and poster (I take a XXL if possible, please). Leandro can be happy with first place!

I think we are all overlooking an important point here.

Do we get shattered glasses and scorch marks in the costume creator?

    Because I want those.

Only if they come with the hair-standing-on-end hairstyle and the obligatory trailing clouds of smoke (although I guess you could use an aura for that).

  22. (looks over the popular vote)

And the suspense mounts... Something tells me Ashcraft's gonna hang onto that top spot coz of the nifty voiceover work and commercial concept, but hey, I'm thrilled to have made the top three!

Well, I've already got a contact in Cimerora.......

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now THERE'S an interesting question - normally once you get to know a contact (do a few mishes, drag your tail all over Paragon City running errands for them, wash their cars...), they give you their cell phone numbers and you can call them instead of having to run all the way back there.

I might be out on a limb here, but I'm thinking ancient Rome didn't have cell phones, so how do you establish that "insta-contact" thing? Telepathic link? Messages chiseled into the side of the Colosseum? Use the Ouroboros crystal ("I'm sorry, the contact you are trying to reach is not available at this time, please sever your spatiotemporal contact and try again")?

hehe, no. Just another bug that popped up with the welcome to Ouro arc. Happened to a couple people on Protector sofar.

I believe that it is Mender Tesseract that is traveling through time atm, and is unable to answer her calls.......

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmm, might have to try that! Talk about the ultimate deja vu experience...

And geez, you figure if anyone would be traipsing through time and not bother to answer the phone, it'd be Lazarus.
