The program I use to record footage from a DVD is called ImTOO DVD Ripper. (I forget what version they're up to now.) That saves the files for me in... either WMV or AVI format, I forget which. I think they still have a 30-day trial version (or one of those where it's free but you can only record 5 minutes at a time).

If someone has an AVI with footage I want to use, I simply download said AVI, open it in Sony Vegas Movie Studio (or Windows Movie Maker or whatever) and just clip the footage I need.

I'm staying squishy - but depending on how far down she's exemped, Tava can manage a) Transfusion and/or b) Transference. Fulcrum shift, however, may be right out.

Personally I've found that converting to WMV works best for me - I get good quality sound/video even after uploading to YouTube (although I have the option for High Quality Available there as well).

If you're looking for free conversion, your best bet is to record in FRAPS, import it into Windows Movie Maker, save it as a WMV, and go from there.

A happy medium on the UI might be (if you have something like Vegas or Premiere that allows 'selective' zooming) would be to have as little of the UI as possible up when actually in combat, but then take a moment to show the various parts of the UI in a non-combat situation. (Like, "You've got a map, a chat window, your powers toolbars, targeting, etc", and then zoom in on that part of your footage to show said mentioned UI feature.)

I might have to take a crack at my own "Intro to CoX" video - at least then I'll be putting my money where my mouth is.

I do want to say, though (for what it's worth), that it's good that folks are taking shots at making videos to get their friends into the game. Anything that draws positive attention to CoX is a help.
