LOL - I started to say, "Psst - Your vocabulary is showing..."

BTW (off topic) - Anyone know if "TomStrong" is also on this site?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Don't know, don't care.

I just really hope that someone does a write-up in the next City Scoop on the machinima contest (even if we're still in the finals at that point) - the videographers deserve all the attention they can get.

    Or maybe I'll write one...

  3. Yes.

Do a search on Google for Leandro's Splasher program.

  4. *bemusedly shaking her head*

TomStrong has apparently taken a personal dislike to me - he's moved on from bashing my video to bashing my website. (I guess he got mad at me praising some of the folks' videos that he didn't like at all.) However, I will take my own quiet revenge in much more entertaining ways as long as I'm still on the GT site.

And for whoever noticed the problem that they'd voted on one video but then saw the checkmark next to another, I've not seen that problem, and I've been in and out of the site a number of times now.

Also, I sent Lighthouse a PM about this contest thanking the Powers That Be for trying to organize something for us CoX videographers, even if it didn't quite come off as well as we'd have liked it. But as he pointed out in his reply, it got CoX some much-needed attention, which is a good thing.

Why arent you working for NCsoft?

I think Leandro should join me up at HeroCon and we'll inveigle ourselves into the company of the Powers That Be and try and score jobs for ourselves.

If I could have chosen it, The Return of the Revenge of Dr. M would have got my vote. Samuraiko would have been second place.

Out of the options, I voted for Dark Advice because it got the biggest laugh out of me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Second place would have been nice (hell, even third would have rocked)! Why?

There are others which may be good videos but have absolutely no light side to them. The character is dark side all the way through. I think what eliminated Samuraiko's video from being a finalist was that it suffered from this. Although technically polished to a high gloss as usual for Samuraiko it lacked the concept that they were looking for. Somebody with a light side getting in touch with their dark side.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You're probably right, Mandu, which would explain why a video like "The Return of the Revenge of Dr. Mechanico" didn't make it either.

Which is ironic, because if I'd been allowed to use my choice of music (ie, not just from the game), the video I wanted to create was VERY much "light turning to dark." But since I could not find a piece of CoX music that did the concept justice, I opted not to use it, and created "Etiquette" instead.

Oh, well. Guess I'll just have to top myself on my next one... *snarky grin*

Coming up on the roster... the "Ode to the Videographers" and "Positron vs the Marketing Department."

    AND DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!!!

  8. What Star_Dancer said.

And I'm STILL getting negative comments on mine! (Including an "I told you you wouldn't make it into the top 5" remark).

I'm thinking that once this contest is over, it's the last time I have anything to do with GT and its users.

I'll host my OWN contest! I can't give away a car or anything (I wish), but maybe once February rolls around and John and I get tax money and VSI check, I can host some kind of video contest with a prize of some kind for the top three...

Of course this means I can't enter my own contest, but oh well...

A shame Samuraiko didn't make it, a darn shame. And in my opinion it was a toss up between Leandro, 8 baller, CollegeJem, and Samuraiko. All amazing videos, really great work everyone.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks... I was horrendously depressed at work all day today, which frightened quite a few of my co-workers because I'm the one who's always cracking jokes and stuff. I think almost everyone in my department was wondering who in my family had died.

But I'm still glad I took part, and I'm glad that some talented friends of mine made it all the way to the finals.

so how does a normal person, someone without coding knowledge, get to use these toons?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Go to the Feb 8th edition of the City Scoop - you'll find an article I wrote called TOONS ON FILM that's a fairly step-by-step set of instructions on how novices can take a crack at videos.

There are also a couple REALLY awesome guides in the Guide to Guides section on "demo editing." They really are writting for the folks who look at democode and go "WTF?"

  13. It depends on the story I'm trying to tell.

Sometimes I leap straight into things, and fill in the backstory via flashback later. Othertimes I start at the beginning and let things unfold.

Since my videos are all over the map, I'll use my books as an example.

"And the Greatest of These" starts off with a prologue set a thousand years in the past, then flash forwards to present day, with the heroine/protagonist filling the the gaps via her memories (as she regains them), tales and stories, and so on.

"The Sword of the Soul" begins a short way into a larger story, with the background details fleshed out as the book goes along.

"Unexpected Results I: A Slight Glitch" starts in media res, bang we're right into the action, whereas its sequel, "Unexpected Results II: In All the Empty Places" begins shortly after Book I ended.

All of my stories have the classic "rise, fall, rise, fall" where the good guys win a few, then lose, then win, then lose BIG, to set up some uber-dramatic scene at the end.

I could go on and on about this, but I'd bore everyone stupid (moreso than I already have).

  14. Wow, they did it before I went to work!

*long pause as she goes off to look*

Oh, damn. I didn't make it. But I was right, I predicted that 8baller and Leandro would make it to the finals!

Need to rewatch them all and figure out how to vote for. Congrats to the five who made it!

  18. Yep, I think the nay-sayers are pulling out all the stops. More negative comments showed up on mine again this evening.

I think, however, I learned a valuable lesson from this experience, even if I don't win.

I care more about the opinions of the people who hang out in this forum than I do about the rank and file folks who comment on the GT site because I know that the folks here:

    a) can put their money where their mouths are
    b) have no qualms about being honest no matter WHOSE video it is (ie, they're not going to say one of my videos is awesome just because I was the one who made it - if it sucks, they'll tell me)
    c) are willing to make suggestions on how to improve it, instead of just pointing out all its flaws

So... yeah. While it'd be nice if the folks who hang out on the GT site were to like my video, I know that the videographers here whose work *I* admire are the videographers whose opinions actually mean something.

And no, that's not me kissing anyone's a**, it's just the honest truth.

PS - btw, 8baller, awesome fricking poster. I've designed the covers from my own books, but never did a poster for one of my vids - maybe I should have YOU do it.

Well it looks like somebody's been busy tonight. The torpedoing continues...interesting enough only one movie seems to be moving upwards....and quite a bit in the past 24 hours.

Seems one movie, (that was previously below 7 until today) is now 7 and climbing.

    ...I'm just sayin'...

...and that's just sad...I mean really.

    Correction: he's now at 7.1

  23. Cool, thanks!

BTW, Dark_Shade, I'm going to pick one of your three so that way each videographer is only represented by one character. Same goes for Star_Dancer and the others who gave me multiple options on who I can use. I'm trying to make sure we get (mostly) equal screen time (although since this is MY video, Jo will grab a bit more of the spotlight).

EDIT: Crap, that reminds me! FlyByKnight, I need yours, too! You're not getting left out of THIS one!
  24. Okay, just so I know who was who last night on the videographers' TF...

    Who was Tesslah2?
    Who was Verdure Mephit?
    Who was Oksah3?

  25. It's practically a given that I die when I go into combat. My very first character was an en/en blaster who'd just mow down stuff left right and center, the mop the floor with whatever was stupid enough to come into melee range.

Now I play a troller who turns everything into pinatas, but has an unfortunate tendency to pull the aggro away from the tank because the tank can only hit one thing at a time, and my mass hold hits a LOT.

But turning Burkholder into a pinata was AWESOME! We are definitely going to have to do this again so FBK can take part. Due to a mixup of something-or-another, he wasn't able to join us, so I vote we do this again next week. (Just not Hess - I wanna do a different one.)

I'll bring Tava again so she can flirt with Ashcraft and Doctor Leo again, and I'll continue to aid the healers in their quest for the healing badges.
