As a heads up; We still do not have final details surrounding VIP status or the state of player services moving forward. As soon as NCsoft provides an update myself or another of the remaining team will update and hopefully answer any questions you may have.

Just for you, Ryan... but this one is now on my list of vids to make. I pulled the song from YouTube and have it storyboarded.

  5. *grins*

On a lark, I posted the following Tweet earlier today to author Neil Gaiman:

@neilhimself Our home (Paragon City) has a park named for you (Gaiman Woods). Could you help us save our home? Pls RT http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-838027

Neil promptly retweeted it... as did fellow author Laurell K Hamilton. As did several of their fans... who are now following me and retweeting the #SaveCOH campaign.

    Every bit helps!

  7. Cool, thank you for continuing to get information for me. I'm going to keep this thread going until the end of September to allow as many people as possible to see it, and then in October I should have the finished version for everyone.

  8. My top 3:

Johanna Sinclair: my en/en blaster, otherwise known as the time-bending, troublemaking, techie pagan nun. I'd originally created her for a group of stories I'd written for the anime fandom of TRINITY BLOOD, and my first character here in COH was a superhero version of Jo. She took on a new life here, and when Issue 11 came out, she picked up an alt (Mender Anomaly), who was Jo 10 years in the future. Great fun... and she was my first 50!

Sorina Tavarisch: grav/kin controller. I'd created her on a lark to experiment with the set, but while she had something of a backstory (former Vanguard scientist during the war), she didn't REALLY take on a life of her own until quite unexpectedly, she let me know in no uncertain terms that she was harbouring a secret crush on Positron. And as I wrote the book THE COURSE OF SUPERHERO ROMANCE, she developed more and more layers until I was astounded at how much she had grown.

Last but not least, the irrepressible Andrea Blake. A dark/psi defender created because of a friend's request of how the powerset played. Once I'd created her, though, she leapt full-fledged from my imagination into the game. On the surface, she was a fun-loving, gung-ho, "I live for debt" superhero. However, she'd gained her darkness powers after being shot and killed at sixteen trying to stop a group of Skulls from assaulting a woman, and since then has not aged. Some characters have concept songs - Blake has at least two full albums. She's dated Castle, Foreshadow, Synapse, and who knows how many other eligible bachelors of Paragon City. Oh yeah... and she called Statesman a wuss in front of about a hundred people at a charity ball. I love that girl.

  9. The video I have in mind is a very simple one (as compared to some of my more complicated efforts), but watching the rough cut version I have is still enough to move me to tears.

  10. Yep, I saw! I've been wandering in and out of the game on both live and beta to get footage I need. The job search, however, is taking priority during the week. *sighs*

    That's okay, so am I.

BTW, Praetoria was the birthplace of three of my favorite characters...

Cassandra Dunstan, the Praetorian reflection of my funloving psychic, Andrea Blake... which led to the surreal twist that while Blake was dating Synapse, Cassandra had sworn to avenge Aaron Walker by killing Neuron.

Cassandra in turn rescued a Seer from the network, who upon escaping took on the name Psychic Hotline (I still cannot believe that name was available on Justice).

Last but not least was Chastica, a fledgling superhero and scientist actually from Primal Earth 20 years in the future, who had come back to help the Praetorian resistance as recompense for the help they gave her parents. Her given name? Alexandra Tavarisch Keyes.

  12. FRAPS will record what's on the screen - great if you want to include UI, or don't really care about a really smooth video flow.

VirtualDub (the name of the program) takes all the JPGs and compiles them into a vid file of your format preference.

  13. The -demodump command creates a JPG for each frame of the file. For really short demofiles, it's an awesome way to get the exact frame you want of action.

I use it and then compile all the JPGs into an AVI via the VirtualDub program. Makes for some seriously smooth playing videos.

But still ... no matter what comes of everything, thank you for all the work you've done for the game. Even when you were stuck in QA! (I gotta say, going from QA to the content team kind of sounds like a Cinderella story.)

I will see what I can do... the four that have my attention right now are my 'farewell' to the game, a community video, the 'in memoriam' vid, and CoVIDEO HELL (because damn it, I am not leaving without finishing that). Bonus points if I finish... a certain video I was making with Steelclaw.

Anyone can edit the doc. If someone wants to do the heavy lifting and delete duplicate questions, the designers and I can bust this out a lot faster.

Remember Wheaton's Law when editing the doc. Changes you make are PERMANENT.

(If there already was a google doc made, copy it into mine; I'd like to be able to lock out the doc so the designers and I can answer the questions)

(I pasted in up to Post 12 in this thread to get you started)
I don't mind doing it, but I'd rather not do it at the same time as someone else...

And I'm typing all my questions in Notepad before I post them here (or there, as the case may be)... I want to know a LOT - I got a book and a half to finish, so details are needed.

  18. Okay, word of advice, let's make this easier.

Via the command prompt, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\NCSoft\City of Heroes

    Then type:

    cityofheroes -demoplay airheads-edited3 -disable2d -screen 1680 1050 -demofps 30 -demodump

(launches the file as demo) (filename) (turns off all text and UI) (sets the screen size) (sets the FPS) (converts to JPGs)

    That should work.

  20. To the best of my knowledge, not a damn thing.

All my contributions were out of game, although when they did the poster contest and someone snuck me in as the director on their poster, to see myself immortalized in-game was a tremendously satisfying experience.

  21. I have been trying and trying to remember who the other players were at the HeroCon 2008 D&D Charity Game, other than Bloodspeaker and me. And I still have my Sister Solaris character sheet!

Matt's premise was that we six were the Cimeroran versions of the Freedom Phalanx: Imperious (Statesman), Sister Solaris (Sister Psyche), Daedalus (Positron), Marathon (Synapse), Parthenon (Citadel), and Orion (Manticore). We'd been charged with finding the Golden Fleece to protect Cimerora... except that not only was it guarded by all manner of traps and monsters (including a hydra), but the Fifth Column was also looking for it as well.

I really wish we'd been able to podcast or livestream that game. Frequent lapses into obscenity and juvenile behaviour not withstanding, it was an absolute riot. Much soda, Doritos, kibbutzing from Sean Fish and Bruce Harlick, tactics that could only be described as innovative, insane, or both, and a lot of laughter.

Some great quotes I remember from that night:

Matt (to me, as the only woman there): "Um, you're not offended by swearing, are you?"
    Me: "Oh, f*** no."
    Matt: "Good, thought so."

John (as Orion, the Cimeroran Manticore): "I'm not following Imperious' orders. He just happens to be going where I'm going."
Sean Fish: "Yeah, you've definitely got Manticore's mindset right."

The group as a whole: "Marathon, scout the Fleece... Marathon, scout the Hydra... Marathon, scout the Fifth Column..."

(to the challenge of getting up out of a canyon)
Me (as Sister Solaris): "I cast Fly."
    John (as Orion): "I climb."
Marathon's player: "I run up the wall and am waiting impatiently for everyone else."

(on being challenged by an NPC as to why we should be allowed to pass)
Imperious: "We're on a quest from the gods!"
Daedalus: "We're trying to save Cimerora!"
    *pause*
Me as Solaris: "Because I'm hot!"
(everyone looks at me as Matt facepalms)

It seems one area Paragon Studios had issues with was contract programming. Since apparently one of the type-R programmers they contracted to update the physics engine had a questionable understanding of gravity. My guess is that Paragon couldn't ask him to fix it because he tried to fly off his roof one day.

The irony is that if Paragon Studios contracted someone to write their accounting software, the game would probably still be live. Because I don't think NCSoft would terminate a title that was earning them sixty-eight trillion dollars a month.
Arcanaville, you now have me wavering as to whether I should refer to you as the Doyenne of Digits or the Snark Knight. (Which, btw, is taken on Justice by moi.)
