It's funny, for me it was the reverse. IOs came out with Issue 9, and I tried to get into them but just couldn't grasp the concept for some reason. I was already burnt out on the game at that time so I let my subscription lapse. I forget exactly when I came back, maybe between Issues 10 and 11, but eventually I was able to get a handle of how IOs and set bonuses worked. Once I cracked that nut of awesomeness I was hooked. Now I rarely create a new character without putting together at least a partial build with IOs in Mid's in anticipation of a late-game that usually never arrives due to crippling alt-itis.

Well I'm going to be one of the few people who (partially) comes to the OP's defense here and says that I have also had problems with Claws(/SR). Mine is 35-37 (I forget exactly) but that was achieved mainly by leeching XP from task force runs where I really didn't feel as though I was contributing much. I certainly wouldn't call the set broken since many people clearly have a lot of success with it (including BillZ from my home server), but apparently I'm missing some aspect of how to play it. I was just about to return to my Claws/SR Scrapper on Sunday before a major computer failure, but once I get back up and running I'm hoping to figure out how to play this stupid* thing.

True, but the speed cap is applied AFTER the speed penalty for carrying a coconut so there is some advantage in over-slotting.

Power Customization. There's some great color combinations you can get, and it's fun to see the colors of other people's costumes. Dark red Dark Melee/Dark Armor looks really sexy, really just the depth of customization you can do with dark powers in general is cool to see. -

I got into Dual Pistols closed beta when my account had been inactive for 3 months because I had the loyalty badge (yes, the invite is part of what pulled me back to the game), and it was my first closed beta. I made a few bug reports but not really a lot. No I17 CB invite for me (which is fine, I can't play right now and I'd rather play 2XP than CB come tomorrow). So who the hell knows.
Whining about being left out certainly isn't going to get you in, though. -

Oh I'm afraid you're about a century too late for the whole "personal responsbility" argument. Usury used to be so frowned against that the punishments if you were found guilty of it were sometimes rather severe. The way people used to buy the big things (like a house or... well, cars didn't exist back then!) was to save up for it first, and then pay for it. Now, we get a loan from a bank or a credit union or somewhere else. We buy now and then pay later! And later. And later. And later...
