Not that it matters or that I even care anymore, but I'm still curious how the winner of 1000 merits will be able to claim their prize, given that merits aren't tradable*. Or does the winner simply give you a list of things they're going to use the merits on?

Aww don't give up yet. I designed this to be solo'd. Honestly I don't have any rules about teams because it is impossible for me to enforce. I do these to provide a fun alternative to the every day grind of the game. I know it isn't as much as one of the grand prizes, but you can still win 200 million influence by finding the 3 parts needed for the antidote.

Apparently I'm too stupid to do this, so I give up. Doesn't help that I'm at a disadvantage since other people seem to be making this a group effort.

The first time I encountered this was in I17 Closed Beta, but then I encountered it on Live a couple more times before I17 went live. Now it has struck again.
Note the transparency of the combat attributes, along with the chat, target, and nav window areas, along with my health bar and power trays. (Don't know if this is something you can tweak in game but rest assured I haven't done that.) Also note the blocks on the corners, I didn't include it in the screenshot (and am far too lazy to go back and do so now), but these blocks also appear on the borders of badges in the nav window's badge listing (not on the corners of the badge art itself, on the corners of each badge's...area, for want of a better term). Also applies to the login window.
The first time I encountered it, it fixed itself without me doing anything after a few minutes. The next few pre-I17 times on Live, I had to log out then log back in. -
You know what? I like that some of the new Exploration badges require actual exploration. Sure, a lot of them are point-and-click "go to area, get badge, move on", but some of them leave you scratching your head wondering where it could be, until you finally find it in a hidden area you've never seen that's been in the game for years.

1. The game's population certainly isn't at CoV release levels, but the game is definitely not on its way out.
2. Finding teams isn't that difficult if you know how to go about it. The first thing I'd suggest is joining one of Freedom's global channels. You could also look for a Supergroup to join on the Freedom subforum so you have a regular group of people to run with.

The level cap isn't going to be raised but we are getting an endgame system called the Incarnate System that will be a way of making level 50s more powerful through a series of 10 Incarnate Levels (but remember, this isn't raising the level cap to 60). We don't know much more than this for now, except that we will see Incarnate Level 1 in Going Rogue and/or Issue 18 (released concurrently, but we don't know if GR will be required to access the Incarnate System).
5. All MMOs are a waste of time, sorry.
6. Dunno about ranking, but I'd be shocked if we're in the top 3 or even top 5. We're in a niche. -

It should also be pointed out that Ultra Mode is optional. You can turn all those settings off if they happen to be on, although with your card I'm guessing they aren't and your problems are being caused by other changes.

Still having issues with blockiness and FSAA. HD5570, Catalyst version 10.4.
This is on 8x, looks about the same on 4x and 2x, fixed with FSAA off. As we discussed in-game earlier, Bill, I changed the filter in Catalyst to wide-tent and subsequently reset (this was before going to bed), back in the game now and it looks like this. CCC is set to let app decide for FSAA and anisotropic filtering. As you can see, ambient occlusion is completely off. Question: does the anti-aliasing mode matter? Right now it's on super-sample AA. -
My DM/DA Brute's clone was a Plant/Thorn Dom (which is interesting since I actually have one of those). Carrion Creepers FTW! Although I'm dreading 8x Creepers on my Plant Dom...

Some of the customization you described is limited at character creation time, but not because you're on a trial account. Capes are unlockable at level 20 normally, although there are some capes you can unlock through a Veteran Reward (I forget after how many months) and some you can unlock through purchasable Boosters. There are some robes in the game but they're not the flowing type you'd prefer. Costume Auras are also limited -- unlockable at level 30. And there are a number of unlockable costume pieces. (By the way, ParagonWiki is your friend, but make sure you never visit the Wikia version, as it's plagued by malware. The correct URLs are paragonwiki.com or wiki.cohtitan.com.)
No staff powerset (yet! the devs have said they want to do it at some point though). There are several weapon sets that Tankers, Brutes, Scrappers and Stalkers get -- Broadsword, War Mace, Battle Ace, Dual Blades, Katanas -- all of which can be customized (there are other weapon sets like this but these are the ones that fit what you described).

Anyway, you don't need to be on Test 24/7 or even long at all to make sure it's working. If you had logged onto Test, even for just a few minutes, you might (and I say "might") have seen the same issues you have now, and could have taken another few minutes to send a bug report containing your system information so the devs would have had another data point. But clearly you're far too busy and far too important to take 10 minutes out of your busy life to do this.
And the market isn't dead, they willfully took it offline to correct a bug so you wouldn't lose your precious lewt.
The sad part is that you actually do have legitimate grievances (the market being down leaves me not wanting to play the game at all because my recipe inventory keeps filling up -- better than losing stuff though), you're just being so whiny about it. -

I do like the email attachment feature, but it should have been in the game years ago.
