I think it's ridiculous seeing as MMs have fewer primary choices than all other ATs at this point.
Level the field first, then charge for new stuff.
I complained about this with Darkness Control and Dark Melee and was happy to see that both would be 'free' to VIPs as Dominators had fewer combinations available than all other ATs.
Why should some ATs have a much wider selection of free sets than others? Especially if you now have to pay to play an MM. Imagine if you were a F2P player? You'd have to first pay to unlock MMs, then pay to play a set. Ridiculous. -
OMG they're finally all live!
Quick! Run out and roll a gravity dom to show your uber l33t phase shifting skilz! -
This was all brought up in Beta. And the dev response was too bad, so sad. Would take too much art time to make it anything other than the wolf.
Combined with Beast Mastery getting leaked at the same time, this unique power fell short of what people wanted or expected. -
So testing gravity on Live today and the latest Propel and DS changes are NOT there.
Not sure that's been mentioned anywhere yet, but it's lame at any rate.
No time to search for any mention of it. Playing atm but thought I'd share in case nobody's noticed it. -
Whips and Chains, baby. Whips and Chains.
When that comes out, I'll drop mad bank to get it. Hopefully, they release the Diabolique costume pieces along with.
Blasters pale in comparison to what dominators can do. Honestly, they ought to make a pass through all the blaster secondaries and beef up their controls a bit.
The only blasters I've enjoyed are those with controlling powers like ice and elec. And this was before doms were an itch in Statesman's pants.
I'd thought that dark/dark blasters would be decent in the control department, though. Is that not true? -
If you want to stay on the safe side and go with what you're comfortable with, melee, then look into elec/earth/primal forces. Lots of melee. Lots of control. Lots of powers that will take sets with +rch. You can pick up Tough along the way to boost your survivability.

Yeah they've said a lot of things and the done the complete opposite. So if that's their justification for keeping the power a piece of garbage then it's a lie.

Quote:the main issue is that the set is the prototype 'late bloomer'. With WH and Singy, you have the same level of control as anyone else. That doesn't make the first 26 levels of play fun or easy, though.Thanks. I was rolling with a Grav dom, just going against the grain as I tend to do, and it was so dreadfully terrible I had to shelve it. From what I am seeing nothing is going to change this set for doms short of a mass confuse or a truly unique DS rebuild.
Going to go reroll to Mind or Elec, I enjoy confuse to much to not have it on my Dom.
There used to be an assault set like this called 'psionic assault'. Was backend heavy. And that was 'fixed' years ago to better balance it whether you like it or not. I'm not sure why the devs are so scared to do the same to gravity. Switch DS and WH and you have yourself a winner. No need for all the other silly tweaks they're testing.
But for some reason they have a hard-on for AoE phases even though it's the worst kind of control, there are no sets to put in it, vast majority of players skip or revile them, and you need a Masters degree just to understand what it's doing. -
Worm Hole is much improved. Increased AoE. Aggro-free. A+
Singularity is improved with shorter animation times, but it's no game-changer. B+
Impact mechanic has little to no value for dominators who have assault secondaries. Also, there's rather no point to following your hold with lift/propel normally, so you'll have to change your attack chain just to take advantage. And if you do that, you'll decrease your ability to 'juggle control' enemies that you normally had to do as you didn't have any effective AoE control before your 20s. C-
Propel is faster. But now it's supposed to do splash knockback. Not sure what that's going to do. Useful as part of an attack chain, but now you'll be tossing enemies away from melee if that was your followup. C+
Dimension Shift is still situational (aka skippable). Phasing large groups of enemies isn't the type of control this game was built around. And at level 12 you need a real control to give you some defense in the teens and 20s. It's a long way to 26 and Worm Hole. Even longer til 32 and Singy. Gravity Distortion Field is a decent hold, but on the typical long recharge. Anyway, that leaves you with DS. It's a toggle now and that's better than a click because at least you can turn it off. But the duration was decreased, so by the time you cast it and do a couple things, it's done. Also, you can now phase your allies in the same AoE. Could be good, could be bad. It'll depend on whether you wasted an attack or were unable to buff. I also think it could be a great griefing tool. The real question for me is would I now take this power when I normally skip it? No. F
Overall, I'll give the tweaks a C. Unfortunately, the powers team didn't swing for the fences on their efforts. Instead, they were happy just to get a hit. If nothing had been done, I wouldn't feel any different than I do now: ambivalent. -

Despite all the good ideas being tossed out in this thread, I'm not too hopeful anything useful will come or be done given the situation with the Gravity Control tweaks.
If the devs did decide to do something, they'd probably make Shiver's range longer and the damage done by flash freeze higher to 'fix' them. -
I'm kind of missing the point myself. If it goes in my ST hold, then I'm supposed to spam that to get a dmg bonus. But if I'm spamming my ST hold, which is slotted for control, then I'm not using my assault powers as much, which are slotted for damage. End result seems to be a wash. More boosts, but lower damage attacks.
For a controller I imagine such a proc would be gold as their controls are their attacks. For a dominator, not so much.
Any of you actually compared your pre-proc build to your post-proc? Are you spamming your ST control more just to get it to proc when you otherwise would have delivered another blast or melee attack? Bottomline: are you defeating enemies faster or not? -

What's the big deal about these ATIOs? Bonuses aren't anything special. Slotting mes powers isn't that exciting.
-
I would play a buff/melee AT in a heartbeat. Storm/BS. Imagine lightning bolts spitting out of your sword. Full of Win!
-
-range in Shiver would actually help ranged play. You could then go with a -range + immob tactic to keep mobs at a distance and neutering their ability to strike back. Would pair nicely with ice slick if they're flopping and have -range debuff.
I'd really like to make flash freeze sleep like elec's static field... pulsing sleep. Then it wouldn't get nuked with ice slick's kd or immob's damage.
Put those two changes in and ice would keep its status as king of slows, plus lose a lot of its bipolar problems and give it options other than Slick --- charge --> AA. -
Two hits.
Me hitting you.
You hitting the floor. -
What's sad is that a bunch of us players who come at this issue with varying experience and insights can come to a consensus on how to tweak a set in a couple weeks. Meanwhile the devs take years (if ever) to make an adjustment and it typically ignores the problem (see gravity tweaks).
Honestly, how long would it take to adjust the code for Shiver to have a -range effect and put it on Test Server for some feedback? I'd really like to see more of that sort of mini-testing on set tweaks from here on out. There would be no promises of permanent changes, but at least things could be looked at quickly and more dynamically than the glacial speed we have now. -
Ok I saw you die, and figured that was from a pull attempt not a dc. Still, the folks I saw pulling Nightstar were not the tanks or brutes. This was the last BAF before your logged for a time.

Quote:Oh, I'm not neglecting controls. I'm using those, too. I'm saying building for defense by taking stuff like Weave or 3-5 slotting Maneuvers is silly just to go after the elusive soft cap when it neglects a ranged chain. That was my OP.In all of those scenarios you have your controls to fall back on; mez first then melee second. The best part is that with Synaptic Overload those problems suddenly invert themselves and work to your benefit. Even more importantly, you have to move in if you want to utilize CA or Drain Psyche (and eventually Psychic Shockwave), otherwise you're losing out on your best -end and -recovery.
Between Conductive Aura, Drain Psyche, Mind Probe, TK Thrust, and Psychic Shockwave, you have 5 total powers that require you to enter into close combat. I think it's fairly neglectful to ignore those powers so you attack from range. It sacrifices sapping and damage for fear of avoiding some damage that can be easily mitigated with your other controls.
Soft capped SL defense is irrelevant when targets are controlled then destroyed from melee AND range depending on the circumstance. Building with Def as a priority gimps a lot of builds. Now if you can get your def up and have perma, plus melee, plus ranged, great. Go for it.
