  1. It's just fine. Extra slow and you get the dmg ticks.
  2. Good work. I knew it was possible, but was too lazy to bother soloing one myself.

One thing I'll add is I think it can be done by a non-perma /earth as well. Just the margin of error is much slimmer. The hold from Seismic Smash makes it possible. I think an earth/earth or grav/earth would be able to permahold even more easily with stoney or singy throwing in their holds. Jack has freezing touch, so that helps ice, but he has one extra attack, so his cycling is less.

Oh, and eat some reds next time.

And another thought... do you have room for some Hami Os in that build? Put mez/dmg in BoI.

Please help the rest of the forums understand the new meaning, because I suspect we'll have better luck convincing the rest of the world of this then to get DarkCurrent to admit that "AV Killer" is a misleading title.
I was considering "The Mediocre Player's Guide to Blogging About Dominators", but that was already taken.

    You win the prize.

But isn't that what I said in the very first post?

"/Earth is officially the new AV killer. Being able to stack holds quickly with your ST + Seismic Smash is to die for."

Now if he's saying that's not special, then he's clueless. So let me spell it out.

With domination active, you can stack 20 mag by my calculations with 3 chained attacks: AoE hold, ST hold and Seismic Smash in the time it takes to cast them. If you have a pet like singularity or animate stone that also spams hold powers (1 of 3 attacks), then it will add another mag 3 in the same time as your 20 mag was added, so a total of 23 within about 6 seconds. Then, another 16 can be added by the ST hold, seismic smash and pet in another 6 seconds. Then, another 16 6 seconds after that for a total of 55. Five more than needed to break an AV's PToD up phase (50 mag).

With power boost (and megalomaniac possibly) increasing durations and some moderate recharge and accuracy slotting, there's no reason such a NON-perma dominator and his pet couldn't hold an AV through PToD SOLO. You just need to survive the first 20-30 seconds, which is fairly easy with the correct inspirations or Surge of Power/Demonic.

Now, killing it will take a long time, but it is certainly doable and I dare say moreso than any other secondary combo out there although /psi brings -regen to the table, so it'd be an interesting experiment. However, I leave that up to the die hards. I'm content to bring 1-2 others with me to speed the killing along.
  5. Oh yeah, who was doing the heavy lifting in this one? That was about 30 DE I leapt into and herded up for you.

Oh, and there's the beatdown of Zenflower in 100 seconds, too. Only took 5 of us this time. We're getting better at this AV killing!

  6. Are you playing the alpha dog with this character? Because you should be. With proper slotting there's no reason you shouldn't be able to walk up to a spawn and either WH it into a neat corner pile or string them up like puppets with GDF every time.

And what about your placement? Do you have range in WH? Are you breaking LOS when you use it? Are you using Singy as a door blocker?

Grav is all about taking the lead ("dropping mobs in corner, go get 'em", "herding 2nd mob onto this one", etc.) and proper placement (WH, Singy and your own body). It sounds like that's not your style, so I'm not surprised you're having trouble.

I'm not saying it's the best set out there or anything (Dim Shift blows, and WH should definitely come earlier), but by your 30s you shouldn't be having as much trouble as you're saying regardless of what other doms you've played. That line you used about 'traditional role' really struck me because it sounds like you're trying to get grav to fit some preconceived notion of what a dominator should do. And I'm guessing you're wanting to run up to a spawn, hit an AoE control, then charge in and unload AoE attacks. That's not grav's strength. It's the total opposite. It's the stealth set of controls. You hide around corners, duck behind crates, stand under stairs, pop up over railings, and use singy as your muscle.

Not sure if you're trying to lay down a gauntlet here or not. But comparing a pre-revamp permadom soloing AVs for 60-80 minutes each after multiple failed attempts to 3 doms post-revamp, nonperma, defeating an AV in 4 minutes the first time doesn't make sense.

I'm just saying from my experience with the AT, /earth gives the best chances for AV fights with the high dmg and hold stacking. This isn't a competition for me either way, but if someone wants to make a case for a better dom secondary out there for AV killing, I'd like to see some comparable footage of a solo, duo or trio dom squad to be convinced.

I am impressed. If you're not than I say try it yourself with three Dominators and tell me how it went...
Technically, it was 2 1/2 doms as I spent the beginning of the fight taking care of the Bres boss. We were only running +1 x8-man difficulty setting (us: lvl 47, 47 and 48 vs them: 49s).

But I suppose 3 doms with no external buffs, no regen debuffs and low hp being able to:
    1) permahold a PToD Hero for a solid 4 minutes
    2) take zero damage from said hero, and
    3) beat him to a pulp while 1 and 2 are happening is rather boring.

Next time I'll run my brute with dedicated kin and rad buffers to show how it's really done.
  9. WH is horrible on outdoor maps. Not much to bounce mobs off of. Indoors, especially tight maps like warehouses and offices, you can place mobs in corners all day long. One fun thing you can do outside is sky shot targets. Adds a bunch of time to your control as you launch mobs on a ballistic arc. It'll scatter them for sure, but if you're desperate, it's the right play.

Well if you notice he was over there summoning his own pets that were pounding on Stoney. Someone had to stop your pet from collecting more aggro.

Regardless, I don't know whether it will encourage me to play old characters or new ones. I need more info like if the crossover content is only available to non-praetorian pre-existing characters or not. Because if it's available to all, then I might as well roll a couple new alts and hit that and praetorian stuff at the same time. Which would lead me to look for another new server in all likelihood.
  12. I've got another one for you from last night.

    Woodsman goes 'timber'.

I am really enjoying her so far. If I knew how to embed a screenshot I would, she looks alot like a 4 foot Bjork with pointed ears, blue jeans and a puffy down jacket. The idea was how would a real modern day Icelandic elf hide among us?

Quicksand and Chilling Embrace seem to fill the same hole for me, do you prefer one over the other?
Definitely QS. You get the slow + -DEF and it can be placed at range or melee, and doesn't continually cost endurance. Place an Achilles Heel proc in there for the -RES.

I was actually thinking Grav/Earth. You'd have your ST hold, AoE hold, Seismic Smash hold and Singy's hold, plus power boost. You could cycle and stack mag pretty fast I'd say.

  17. I've max-leveled 12 of the 14 slots (2 vet slots) I have on Pin, so I've moved on to a new server. The game has gotten so easy to hit 50 and to do so quickly, that the 12 standard slots per server are just not enough. But then it costs too much to add more slots, and what's the point when you can just move to a new server where it's free It's not like starting a new base and getting established in a new home takes all that long (can do it with a couple of alts) considering they reduced all the construction costs and rent.

I wish the game was more challenging and variable, so hitting 50 wasn't a month-long jog. I wish there was new content added for the end game, so there was a reason to break out the 50s, but all we get are more gimmicky SFs that everyone just wants to speed rush. And I wish there was a point to server allegiance, but why stand around twiddling your lvl 50's thumbs when you could roll a new alt and try some fresh powersets?

So what did you end up doing and what's your progress? My ice/earth is 47 now.
  19. I have a few characters that still need the badge. If any teams regularly run this SF or are interested in doing so, I'd like to join.

    Leave me a PM @DarkCurrent

I have it on my ice/earth. I play in melee the whole time. It does extra damage. It pairs with AA's slow. So it has value to that build and style.

Does it help the grav/earth who's playing at range? No. Maybe if you wormhole targets right onto yourself it could have some value.

Thanks for any and all builds or feedback....

Earth I'd say is one of the top 2 control sets (with Mind). Whereas Ice control is at the bottom. So the switch there would be tremendous from a control perspective.

Regarding /earth assault vs /ice assault, /earth has way more mitigation with all the knockdown. /ice brings slows, not so great at reducing dmg except after the alpha.

Both assaults have powerboost, so that's a wash. /earth has mudpots and /ice has chilling embrace... mudpots wins that battle imo. Both sets have some good melee attacks with 3 swords in /ice, but /earth has more with 2 hammers, tremor and seismic smash... fissure could be considered melee seeing its range is so short. /ice has the advantage in ranged attacks though... ice bolt, ice blast and bitter ice blast are way better than stone spears and hurl boulder. Both will leave you drained of end in my experience.

I'd say overall that ice/earth is a melee friendly build whereas earth/ice would be better at range, although the swords and the knockdown from EQ would allow you to play melee easily enough.

Last thing to consider are the 2 pets. Stoney > Jack, hands down.

Adding that all up, if I had the choice from level one, I'd go with earth/ice.

Some people say skip single target imobilizes, I know some powers counteract Ice slick...etc... Any advice?

Thank you so much, and wish me luck!
    Ice Control powers to take:
    BoI
    Glacier
    AA
    Ice Slick
    Jack Frost

    Earth Assault powers to take:
    Stone Spears
    Stone Mallet
    Heavy Mallet
    Seismic Smash
    Tremor
    Fissure

Slot heavily for end redux and plan on IOs that add recovery and endurance.

Avoid other toggles if you can (I took tough and weave, and plan for my patron armor because I wanted to show brutes how it's done, but man is the end drain ridiculous).

You main synergy is knockdown. Ice Slick and a lot of your assault powers will keep people perma-floored. You can seriously popcorn large numbers of foes for an entire fight and barely use your 'real' controls.

With that said you'll want to avoid people, like other doms, who use their AoE immob with it's -kb effect. That would be your own AoE immob, plus those from fire, earth, and plant. Mind has no immob, and the grav immob doesn't do -kb (although its holds do). Now if you have a team that has a ton of AoE from cors and the like, then the AoE immobs and your lack of knockdown probably won't matter. But if your team is rolling along because you and your fellow /earths are popcorning the whole map and you pick up some pug that spams their fire cages or roots, you'll suddenly find your lack of other controls is getting you killed.
  25. Useful AoE immobs:
    fire with hot feet
    plant with seeds
grav because you can still knockdown/back

ST immob isn't a must have. There's a whole secondary for damage attacks. ST immobs have use later vs AVs. Much later. Only old set I'd say needed the ST immob was /psi because dart and MB used to suck. Not anymore. Now I'd say /earth could use the extra ranged ST attack, but then again if you're taking /earth, you're going for melee.

Ice Slick is overrated. Although I will nod to Hack for pointing out last night that it is really good out of the box and with minimal slotting. But I find it's usefulness is lacking in too many situations and grows less useful as time goes by.

The AoE sleep is okay, but far from needed. The AoE hold and ST hold are common fodder.

That leaves Shiver and AA. You only need one imo. AA is an end hog, though, and needs 5-6 to be an every fight power. Even then I wouldn't say it's an awesome 'control' power. I was arguing this with Hack that HF is as good... you get the slow, you get the fear. Then it's confuse vs damage. The confuse is more defensive, while the damage is offensive and defensive as mobs die faster.

Shiver can be skipped. Unless you're playing ranged. Even then I don't like it because it's this huge cone that always overshoots its targets to aggro the ones behind it.

As Min said, the mitigation is all soft control. Not very reliable. You find that out fast with the mobs that can fly or that are immune to slows. Of which, there are a surprisingly large number.

I'm not trying to bash the set. I've played it 3x now, I have one 50 (ice/psi) and 2 30s (ice/ice and ice/earth). It's good enough to get the job done, but seriously, I would take ANY other primary before I rolled another one.

I'd love to be able to go back in time and change most of the dom control sets to include things doms would actually use. Imagine if ice had an ice armor, fire a fire armor, etc. Would be glorious.
