Quote:Gravity is not a 'run in and control' set. It's a set up control set.Okay, 50'd spent a few truckloads of influence, raided most of my bases for treasure, took a few hours and the Respec is done.
Tonight i will be teaming, running ITF and LGTF (I hope). i do not think there will be any problems there, i have been running him on these since 45 and I got him dialed for that.
last night I did the mender thing, and encountered a problem with the Honoree room. Just to much to Dom for me, I got a friend to help, and we ended up pulling, but still, without help i do not know if i could have finished that one.
I plan to try some soloing for badges, and quick A merits. Mostly this is a team player, and i know my rolle there pretty good, control agro when things are ugly, and blast when things are good. But soloing is not something i have excelled at with Doms. The pet helps a lot, but my AoE hold is not up quite often enough (I feel) and I love wormhole, but it has a small AoE. I am mostly running him as a Blaster solo, with tricks. Do I just need to relax and let everything recharge, or is there something I should be doing different to speed through stuff? Have full stealth power for speed running. 130% global + Hasten.
Does anybody have insight into how to quickly pop a tough room when I have to? If there are too many I really worry my hold will deplete before the killing is done, then I am standing there with a bunch of people at 25% health, and they are really irritated. i would love to figure out how to use dimension shift better. Maybe Wormhole a few, shift the big group, kill, hold the ones coming out of DS and then kill? Is that to complex? Will it even work most of the time?
To contrast, compare gravity to fire (the latter is a run in and control set).
Fire also has a stun AoE, but it's a line of sight power. So you have to run in to range and unload. Stun what you can, then charge with hot feet and imps. Attack attack attack. If there's still a bunch left, you pop Cinders.
Gravity isn't that and never will be. Gravity uses Wormhole as its up every spawn control power. This power takes advantage of hiding out of sight and dumping a spawn into a corner. That takes time to line up you central target, find a good place to dump him and surrounding foes, then executing the teleport and dealing with what you hit and what you missed. Typically, you place singy between where your targets are and where you're putting them to intercept anything you missed.
Gravity is a thinking man's control set. It requires patience and strategy. With a standard low level spawn of 3 foes, you need to plan who you're hitting with Lift, who you're hitting with GD, and who you're tagging with your assault powers. When you get your AoE controls: Wormhole and GDF, you have to plan WH's execution as mentioned above being careful when teaming because if you toss the mobs away from your mates, they'll get upset. If you position singy too close to mobs, they'll starting getting repelled and your team might get upset. You only have GDF up once in a blue moon, so you have to plan on when you use that.
And if you were foolish enough to take Dimension Shift, you better plan on using that one in only very special circumstances and you probably created a macro to warn your teammates.
Solo it's one of the safest control sets out there though. Not fast, but rock solid. -

It looks like you want to play a ranged build. That's fine. But if you are, then don't bother with ET or WH. You can take your 3 blasts from your 2ndary, powerpush, snipe, crush, lift, GD, and proc'd CF for your basic ranged attacks. Then add in energy torrent and explosive blast from APPs. That would give you an arsenal of ranged attacks.
Early levels would be more single target juggling, but once you had your APPs, you could do some nasty AoE dmg with proc'd CF, torrent and exp blast. Just worm into a corner and unload. Singy would serve as your offensive lineman for anything that tries to get into melee. -
Quote:It lives!538 days logged out. Man, where does the time go? This old vet needs to be brought up to speed. I was here for the Dom Revamp, liked it very much. After that, everything kind of gets hazy. So much to take in...
So tell me, guys, what's been up?
WB Vidz. Send me a PM in game @DarkCurrent if you want to hook up some domi action on Pin. Running some alpha unlocking and TFs for shards these days. I can show you the ropes if you need some help.
HTTT consolidated into one base with just 3 regulars holding down the fort. Let me know if you need an /sgi (your doms were probably /kicked if you were absent that long).
Look for me tonight around 8 PM eastern. -
So where are there? I've been running villains in the 45-50 range and haven't seen a single new tip mission. It's getting old beating up Overdrive, Silent Blade, and Flambeaux. Not to mention that 3/4 of these missions are LB, LB and more LB. Are the new tips limited to a different level range?
-
Defeat Silent Blade villain tip mission... repeatedly bugged on multiple characters from multiple players. Had to have GM complete it for me.
PI mayhem... LB and Holoman never showed after we triggered the vault alarm and took the loot. They were nowhere on the map that we could find. Had to just fail that one. -

Under the hood fixes. Nothing to get excited about.

Quote:How does someone going for the crafting badge eat up a supply in the 100s? It only takes a dozen or two of a particular salvage to get the badge, and then you're done.Circuit board shortages aren't artificial. Like you said, your friends don't even bother listing em most of the time because they're so common. Likewise, because they're so common no one (with any sense) is ever going to try flipping them to stabilize prices and get some inf out of it, there's no profit in it. People fight the enemy groups that drop tech salvage a LOT more often than ones that drop arcane salvage, so anything tech is going to be more common. 99% of the time they're not worth carrying around to list, so a small portion of the supply is ever listed.
They are, however, still used in a lot of good recipes. This includes level 30-40 generic Recharge IOs. Someone going for the badge can easily eat up supply of all the circuit boards. Or someone just crafting for some characters of theirs or something.
Basically they're so common that they're usually not worth listing, but just useful enough that the small amount that is listed gets bought out every once in a while. -

Your AoE attack will also be lacking until epics as all you'll have is Whirling Hands and Crushing Field.
So long as you keep your difficulty setting toward the low end as far as number of mobs goes (you can jack it up for level and bosses), you'll be fine. -
Quote:Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. Correct slotting will come with some nerfing to recharge and end costs I'm sure.I'm sitting here with a Dominator who can't slot one of their epic mastery attacks with IOs knowing that it should be changed to the right classification. How these APP/PPPs made it through all this way to live like this is boggling. Please do hurry, the GR stuff already bores me and I might get bored with this altogether.
I really hope they rearrange the order of these APPs, though. -
Quote:I'm ok with most of this except your PPP picks. Was wondering if this would work? i didn't slot anything ill figure that out later.Ill probly respect at 24 and redo it, but will this b good till then?

The shield is fine. But then you go with God Mode. Not sure why. You should already have all the protection you need with controls, 2 shields and pet. Then, you go and pick the healing pet on top of that. Overkill if you ask me.
I'd take the shield, power sink for the instant end recovery/drain and ball lightning to give you some more AoE and up close dmg potential.
I just don't think you'll get enough mileage from the god mode and healing pet to bother. -
Quote:WAI:So finally got the Ice Mastery pool slotted on my Fire/Psi domie.
It's insanely good. Flash fire, Sleet, Ice Storm, Fire Cages, PSW. Most minions melt in seconds. Lt's and Bosses are tougher but still they are immobilized firmly on top of Sleets debuff. Even on my piss-poor semi-perma build. I can only imagine what a High-end permadom can do.
I'm enjoying it for now, but I'm not holding out hope things will stay like this. It really is too good for words.
Ya or nay? -

Quote:Based on your desire for melee, I'd do this with my 24 powers available from lvl 1-50:Thanks to everyones help on these forums i started my earth/elec dominator. Im loving it so far just hit level 12 tonight. I have been trying to make a build to follow while leveling up, but I just can't do it. I don't know anything about either set or how they work together. An don't really know much about Dominator builds in general. I like to solo more, but i do team from time to time when I get bored. I was just wondering if a few of you could ether make me a leveling build or just list what powers should be taken and which ones should be avoided. Also i was wondering at what level should i get Hasten, and stam. So far i feel my play style is kind of like a scrapper or blapper. I like being in melee range holding bosses and lieutenants, then using my attacks till kill everything.
I couldn't find any earth/elec example builds. i tryed using the earth/ and /elec ones but they only confused me more
Thanks
Swinci
Controls to take - fossilize, QS, EQ, Stalagmites, Volcanic Gases, Stoney pet [6 powers]
Assault powers to take - charged bolts (you have to), charged brawl, havoc punch, thunderstrike, BU, voltaic sentinel (it's another pet, it does damage, you can summon it in melee, and you're not focusing on range, so why not?) [6 powers]
Pools - fitness (hurdle, health, stamina), travel (which one will depend on your account's status and willingness to use temp powers... you might want to toss Air Superiority in here for a melee attack, or go toward SS because of next power), Hasten, fighting (Boxing and Tough). [8 powers max]
Epics - I'd lean toward either fire or ice if you don't have a theme in mind. Both have a pair of targeted AoE attack/debuffs that'll work in melee or range, both have an armor. Fire gives you a rez in case you die. Ice gives you hibernoob to phase and recover. [4 powers] -
I'm going to go right to the heart of where I think this set is lacking and how it could be improved with a single power tweak.
Poison Gas Arrow.
Make the sleep just like the one from the new Electric Control set. It's a recurring sleep that lingers in a cloud. Anyone in it or who enters it will fall asleep, and fall back asleep after being awakened by damage as they reinhale the gas.
Now you'd have an early game power that would improve survivability and capability whether it be Defender, Corruptor, Controller or Master Mind. -
Quote:Oh, it's coming, don't you worry. Just let the blasters complain for a bit about how they're not the damage kings and all that, and the brutes about how they had fury nerfed and now aren't as powerful. They'll start pointing at doms and saying it's not fair a CONTROL AT has as much or more dmg and that we're stealing team slots... blah blah blah.one thing im afraid of is castle nerfing good things based on what skilled people with heavily IO'd builds can do with them. its what got us the stigma that domination 1.0 had as being weak unless you invested a ton of resources into them and everyone only using fire/psi.

Quote:I'd pay money to see him solo hold a GM.Was on a team recently with a controller on my dom. The controller, for whatever reason, decided to take exception to my dom and go over all the reasons why he thinks controllers are blatantly superior. 9_9
It got fairly juvenile. "Well doms are useless against AVs and GMs!" "I'm an earth/stone dominator. I can mez through PTOD..." "Whatever. Can you hold a GM? If you can hold a GM then I'd be impressed. I rock GMs"
I put him on ignore at this point since he was obviously a 14 year old offended that doms are cramping his style or something.
Long story short. What have been your experiences with GM? Can they be perma mezzed, or mezzed at all for more than a second or two? They're pretty rare red side but I imagine I'll be fighting them a lot more on blue side.
GMs can be held. It takes about 4 doms as I recall from the HTTT glory days. We've held Big Sparky and the Ghost plenty of times. -
Quote:I don't disagree. This has been the argument that many of us who are against homogenization have thrown out time and again. This came up a lot before the whole dominator revamp. Not far enough. It's amazing how poor Blasters are in this game and how little anyone cares about it. That's what happens when the primary balancer is just to give everyone more damage when they seem to lag behind another AT.
The more you try to balance everyone around the concept that everyone should be able to do the same thing, contribute the same amount, solo the same, team the same, have the same powersets available, etc... the more you get watered-down vanilla.
