  3. Not sure why so many are picking grav control as weak in regards to damage. It has more attacking powers than most of the others. Look at ice control if you want no damage. Ice has what? ST immob, AoE immob, ST hold and pet. Oh yeah, it has Flash Freeze that does damage (whose brilliant idea was that?). Shiver = no dmg. AA = no dmg. Ice Slick = no dmg. Glacier = no dmg.

    Grav gets dmg from everything but Dim Shift, WH and GDF. Crush = dmg. Crushing Field = dmg. Lift = dmg. GD = dmg. Propel = dmg. Sing = dmg. And sing is way tougher than Jack will ever be. I'd also say grav has more control ability than ice.

    So if you want a weak controller combo, I'd go Ice/Emp. At least you'll have 3 heals for Jack cuz he needs em.

  5. Welcome to CoH: City of Homogenization

    The game where everyone is the same. It's been moving in that direction for the last couple years. Just look at the revamps and power changes made in that time and you'll see it plain as that zit on your nose.

    Dominator Revamp - no more up and down ride that made them unique
    Defender Revamp - more damage so they can solo instead of being team-oriented like they used to
    Blaster Revamp - more HP, more damage and some mez protection so they don't need outside buffs anymore
    Stalker Revamp - make them more 'scrappery' and less reliant on their unique stealth talents

    Toss in the Invention System and Incarnate abilities and now no one has weaknesses, everyone has a nuke, and everyone has pets. Nobody needs anybody anymore!

    And don't forget AE farms, the difficulty slider changes, and patrol xp being added so the leveling journey is a blink and everyone is level 50!

    Woohoo!

    The only thing keeping me going are the new powersets and new missions/arcs we get tossed every now and then. Gives me a reason to start the whole process again.
  6. Will it include any information on the exciting news for dominators?

    Elec/Elec Dom

    It sounds like you're planning on being lvl 50, purpled, perma and incarnate slotted from the get-go. If that's the case (you're being PLd), then your current plans can work especially if teaming... although you're still not going to get as much out of this build as you could by making some changes.

    However, if you're planning to play from 1-50 without a lot of PLing and need to build up inf to buy the IOs you want and get your incarnate powers, I think you'll find your damage and control output lacking for a good 30 levels with your current build.

    While cycling your immobs as attacks is a good idea for a ranged dom, they're not slotted for damage, so you'll be only doing baseline. The AoE immob is an end hog to boot and a huge aggro magnet. If you lead with that, you'll get alphad to death.

    I just noticed you didn't take your ST hold Tesla Cage. Was that on purpose? It's your bread and butter control and essential hard control. I also see you don't have the AoE sleep patch, either. I missed that last night when I was first replying. Not having either of those severely limits your ability to control. Paralyzing Blast is on a long recharge, so that'll only be up every other spawn. Conductive Aura can drain end from enemies, but you have to be in melee and it'll take a few seconds. If all the control you're bringing to the table is immoblize and end drain, you're going to face-plant. A lot. Also, if you are going for Perma only 3 of all your powers will benefit from domination (the 2 immobs and the AoE hold). That's wasted potential imo.

    I highly recommend you go with one travel pool set, and get yourself more control. Also, if you want to stay at range, then slot your immobs for damage at the very least.

    I don't want you to take this as me beating you up. But this is your first go at a dominator and I see you're making a lot of rookie mistakes that'll have you cursing your existence. That said, it's your character and you have to build it how you feel is best. Just don't let your goals of maxxing recharge and/or defense rob you of effectiveness at dominating (holding and touching enemies firmly).

    May I ask what your previous experience is with control sets? If it's as a long time controller, you'll need to throw that mentality out. Think like a blaster, but with a lot more control options and fewer AoE damage options.
  8. DarkCurrent

    Elec/Elec Dom

    Not enough attacks. Unless you're planning to get PLd this will be a long slow stumble to 50. You have only 2 ranged blasts for the first 23 levels. What will you defeat your enemies with?

    You add a little more damage at 24 and 28, but your snipe will see minimal use and give you more of the slow painful leveling feel. Gremlins will give you a little bit more damage at 32, but they're 'meh' overall. Not worth the 6 slots you're giving them.

    You finally add more damage in your 40s with BL, Mu pet and VS. But I think you'll find those last 2 pets aren't all that, especially with just a single slot each.

    Now, looking at your power pool choices, you have too many imo with 9. You're taking two full travel pools with CJ, SJ and Acro from leaping, and Hasten and SS from running. You're also tapping into leadership for maneuvers, and then fighting for Kick, Tough, Weave. Unless you're planning to PvP, don't bother with 2 travel pools.

    If it were me, I'd take just hasten and SS, then buy a jetpack from GV for vertical travel. You can also get one from AP mayhem, plus jump jet from KR mayhem. There's also a couple early missions that award temp jet packs. And you can always craft one, plus log off in GV to earn the day job jet pack. Any of those options will let you drop SJ.

    Next, you can get yourself a KB protection IO from the market. That'll let you drop Acrobatics. There's 2 powers opened without much investment. I'd keep CJ... can use it for a defense set IO like LotG and I see you're looking to give yourself some DEF.

    I like that you're going into the Fighting pool for more protection. Tough and Weave are good pick ups. However, don't bother investing slots in Kick. I wouldn't even put it on my tray.

    Instead, use the 2 powers you freed with dropping leaping powers and get yourself a couple of your elec assault punches. Five slot both. You have plenty of extra slots you're wasting by 6 slotting things that don't need it like the blasts and immobs. My rule for 6 slotting is only do it to AoE controls or powers that you're adding procs AFTER you've slotted up their primary focus.

    I like you're using your last two pets for the special pet IO buffs... not sure those are global though. But if they are that's very clever. However, I'm concerned that even if the DEF and RES buffs are global, I'm pretty darn sure they're only functioning when the pets are summoned. And the problem with that is the two powers you're using them in are the ones with the 'perishable' pets. If you want to buff gremlins, then you might want to use both of those IOs there and slot the other 4 with Expd Reinforce for the rch boost.

    Okay, a major mistake you're making is something that wont show too much here on paper, but your slotting of Conductive Aura should be your clue. I see you're looking to make the power a +regen focus. Okay, not sure on the numbers of that vs using it as a +recovery instead... either could work I suppose although I prefer the endurance... but think about that a second. Your plan seems to be you want the extra HP regen, but remember that power is PB AoE. Therefore, you need to be in melee. However, you have only Kick as a melee attack! I fear you're going to find yourself getting face planted over and over trying to leverage that regen buff. So going back to my earlier suggestion... pick up a couple of your elec punches and 5 slot them! Heck, Thunderstrike takes KB sets iirc. If so, you can get KB protection from the Kin Crash set (I think it's 4 IOs) and you can even get 7.5 rch if you go with 6 slots. It's going to KB anyway, so you might as well send em flying!

    Three slotting Maneuvers is a waste. If all you want is the LotG bonus, then just put that. Also, look at Stealth from concealment. I think you'll get more mileage there instead of Maneuvers. It'll stack with your SS and give you invis for ghosting missions. Def numbers are about the same as are the end costs.

    Your ST immob is overslotted and probably skippable. You'll already have the AoE version, so that'll be good enough for those situations you need to immob a foe. I'd ditch that power as well, or slot it as an attack if you're insistent on staying at range.

    If you do drop it, pick up the confuse or jolting chain instead. You could get the purple confuse set pretty cheap and get the rch bonus. It'd provide way more control use than the ST immob. JC is also a worthwhile power. You can get away with 2-3 slots in it as well.

    Anyway, those are my thoughts. Good luck!

    You act like I don't have other ATs I play. I've been in this game for more than 7 yrs and have full character loads on 4 servers. For the record:

    50 Brutes:
    axe/wp
    DB/elec
    DB/dark
    Elec/Shield
    Elec/NRG
    plus 3 others <50

    50 Defs:
    dark/dark
    storm/psi
    kin/rad
    plus 7 others <50

    50 Cors:
    rad/fire
    fire/storm
    dark/dark
    elec/storm
    nrg/kin
    elec/cold
    ice/cold
    ice/therm
    plus 4 others <50

    50 MMs:
    ninja/TA
    demon/storm

    50 blasters:
    ice/ice
    plus 2 others <50

    50 Kheld:
    PB

    And there are the doms listed in my sig, plus a few others not 50 and I have a stalker in her 30s. The only ATs I don't have are tankers, scrappers, and controllers because I don't have fun with them.

    So I have perspective on this situation even though you're insinuating i don't. In the end, though, whether I have this many different ATs that I've played and enjoyed, it doesn't make the fact that doms are getting overlooked by proliferation and new set creation for the foreseeable future fair, equitable or smart business.

    But continue to ignore the fact that doms are being given the shaft and that you're okay with being treated as a low priority if you enjoy the AT.

    Well it's already doomed to this because using words like 'exciting future plans' for dominators paints the devs into a no-win corner. The nature of the beast is that no matter what set eventually comes out, it's not going to be the set X, Y or Z wanted and therefore will fail to be 'exciting' for those customers. Especially when you have to wait months longer than everyone else. So while all the other kids are playing with their new toys, the red-headed dominator is sent to their room to play with last year's beat up dolls and action figures.

    Unless it's Blow Up Doll Control and Sex Toy Assault I don't think anything they announce to be released (whenever they get around to it) for next year will make up for getting zip now when everyone else and their sister is getting about 2 new sets. I find it amazing that there's all this animation time and power creation programming time for everyone else, but there's none for dominators. Instead we get empty promises.

    I just want to know what the new set is for Dominator. Dom isn't getting anything new in Issue 21 and 3rd round of Proliferation while other ATs get several new sets.

    So it is safe to assume that in issue 22, Dom should get two new sets?

    Dark Illusion / Dark Assault

    and

    Whip Control (Gadget/Riot Control) / Whip Assault.
    Yeah, but I'm just whining and complaining about nothing. Dominators shouldn't be upset that they're not getting anything proliferated nor new sets. Especially now that we've learned there are two other new sets being release along with Time Manip... another new blast set for blasters and their ilk, plus another new melee set for scrappers and their ilk. And there's the followup melee set Titan Weapons.

    We just need to be patient. I'm sure that sometime in 2012 there'll be a release about the exciting plans for doms.

    Sounds like more low-hanging fruit that could be added to the game with the next round of proliferation along with a /dark assault.
  15. Two weeks later and the protest is still going strong! I look forward to today's Ustream to hear if they'll announce overlooking proliferation of illusion control to dominators was just a horrible oversight. I'll also wait to see if they'll announce anything about a new set coming like the low hanging fruit that is /dark assault.

    Keep the faith! Hopefully we won't have to grab our pitchforks and torches this afternoon.

    You think it's funny that the dominator AT is given 'back burner' priority by the development team while everyone else gets new sets and proliferated sets and has their powers fixed when ported to hero ATs (energy armor) while even older control sets run around with messed up powers (gravity and ice control)?

    I mean really..
    Isn't that the point of proliferation? To give the existing sets to those ATs that can use them? Yet that's not happening here. What is happening is that new sets are being created (Time and Dark in this instance) and given to older ATs so that the gap widens. Dominators are being told to wait like good little boys and girls because some day they'll get a new toy, too.

    And this theory doesn't explain brutes and corruptors, either. If newer ATs were just naturally behind the older ones, then all 5 villain ATs would be at the bottom.

    You know I'm shocked so many of you are willing to settle for 2nd to last place. You're okay with having fewer options. You're okay with not having low hanging fruit (illusion control and dark assault) put on your table, too. You're okay with Time Manipulation being a buff set and not a control set. You're okay with the melee classes getting Titan Weapons and all we get is super secret promises.

    It's time to wake up and join the protest rather than following the devs like sheep to pasture.

    Number of Primary (P) and Secondary (S)Power per each AT

    Blaster (P)11 (S)7
    Controller (P)7 (S)10
    Defender (P)11 (S)11
    Scrapper (P)11 (S)9
    Tanker (P)9 (S)11

    Brute (P)12 (S)10
    Corruptor (P)11 (S)11
    Dominator (P)6 (S)7
    Mastermind (P)5 (S)9
    Stalker (P)9 (S)8
    Your numbers are off quite a bit for a few of the ATs. If you add what they currently have + new sets + proliferated sets, you get the following numbers come I21 (multiplication shows the total possible combinations for unique builds):

    Blaster = 11 x 7 = 77
    Controller = 8 x 11 = 88
    Defender = 12 x 11 = 132
    Scrapper = 12 x 9 = 108
    Tanker = 9 x 12 = 108

    Brute = 13 x 10 = 130
    Corruptor = 11 x 12 = 132
    Dominator = 8 x 8 = 64
    Mastermind = 6 x 10 = 60
    Stalker = 10 x 8 = 80

    Hero AT total = 513
    Villain AT total = 466

    Avg combinations = 98

    If you factor in the available APPs/PPPs, the difference is even greater:

    Blaster = 11 x 7 = 77 x 9 = 693
    Controller = 8 x 11 = 88 x 9 = 792
    Defender = 12 x 11 = 132 x 8 = 1056
    Scrapper = 12 x 9 = 108 x 8 = 864
    Tanker = 9 x 12 = 108 x 8 = 864

    Brute = 13 x 10 = 130 x 8 = 1040
    Corruptor = 11 x 12 = 132 x 8 = 1056
    Dominator = 8 x 8 = 64 x 8 = 512
    Mastermind = 6 x 10 = 60 x 8 = 480
    Stalker = 10 x 8 = 80 x 8 = 640

    Hero AT total = 4269
    Villain AT total = 3728

    Avg combinations = 800

    Looking at that, dominators have the second fewest play choices by a significant margin. Compared to their cousin ATs, they have 181 fewer options than blasters and 280 fewer than controllers.

    Post-I21, if the special news means a new control and a new assault set, they'll have 9 x 9 x 8 = 648 combinations, which will move them up to third fewest (ahead of just MMs and stalkers), but still less than blasters and controllers. However, controllers will presumably get the same control set and have 9 x 11 x 9 = 891 combinations at that point. Blasters MIGHT get another manipulation set out of the deal if the new dominator powersets are NOT darkness (say radiation), which would give them 11 x 8 x 9 = 792 .

    At any rate, several of you are apparently okay with being next to last for the foreseeable future. You're willing to wait months for increased play options and will settle for being near the bottom even after you get something new.

    I, for one, am/will not and my protest will continue. Thank you for your support.

    I'm protesting the unequal treatment dominators are receiving. Having fewer playing options than the next closest ATs (blasters and controllers) and watching those ATs get even more choices while dominators have to wait for their proliferation or only get something new if it's shareable is unfair.

    Yes, it is true that few powers in Illusion benefit from Domination but is the current version really that bad? And if the current version is "too good", then what does it say about Illusion/Rad that can solo so many AVs already due to Phantom Army?

    I just think it's bitter that Dominator doesn't get anything this time while Blaster got two new sets and I am sure those require testing as well?

    And what is this "exciting" plan?? If Illusion Control did get transferred here several months later, what's "exciting" about it? It should have happened several months earlier...
    Exactly. This means illusion is NOT being proliferated and quite possibly no dark assault either (as it is as 'low hanging fruit' as the new blaster dark manipulation). And if neither is being ported/added, then that needs to be explained sooner than later.

    This is ridiculous that doms are supposed to sit quietly and wait for whatever 'exciting' news comes their way in a few months. Meanwhile everyone else gets to play with new sets. Hurray!

    And if it's some new control set, you know it'll be shared with controllers, who'll then have 9 primaries to our 8 and something like 11 secondaries to our 8. So they'll have yet another bone thrown their way.

    I'm tired of having to wait for new sets until either blasters or controllers get theirs. Therefore, I am protesting this proliferation news.
  21. I'm glad this thread came up because I've been suffering from this bug a ton lately (the last month or two). I've seen it with lightning rod and shield charge on my brute, plus with sleet and ice storm on my dominator.

    It reminds me of the old teleport target bug from years ago when you couldn't place the target on textured objects (sides of buildings) because it would get confused where a flat surface was. So you'd get the pink No Target symbol.

    This bug is similar, but aside from the No Target symbol, I experience the target getting 'stuck' on the ground and being unable to place it where I want. Then mobs start moving and I have to relocate the target and it's stuck again.

    It's making certain characters very difficult to play. I suggest everyone posting here /bug this so the dev team can fix it ASAP.
  22. Look if blasters getting Dark Manipulation (a NEW set) doesn't piss you off and make you want to protest, I don't know what will.

    It was stated that blasters got DMan because it was full of 'low hanging fruit' Okay, then tell me an dark assault set for doms isn't low hanging fruit as well. All the powers for such a set are in game TODAY. The set could be released TOMORROW.

    But NO we're supposed to wait until AFTER I21 for something really cool. When the hell is that??? Next year?

    That's too long. I want it now. At the latest, I want it when everyone else gets their new/proliferated sets.

    Like I said in my OP. I'm a VIP now. A PAYING customer. And I've been one for 7 yrs. I want my new/proliferated set now, not next year and I have every right to demand it and launch this protest.

    Some of you sound happy to be treated like second-class citizens. You're satisfied with promises of soon (TM). Try that argument at your next Xmas celebration.

    "Don't be upset that you didn't get anything this year. I promise I'm going to get you something really cool next year, Donny the Dominator. Yes, I know that all your brothers and sisters got presents. But hey, your Blaster brother is SO much easier to shop for than you. You understand, don't you?"

    I didn't read his post as that. But regardless, I think when it comes to making changes to powers you have to look at their basic intent and not their particular methods of delivering that intent.

    If a power is meant to provide damage, then revising/replacing it with something that also does damage is okay.

    Changing it so that it's now a heal or a control or a defense shield, should not be okay.

    To me, that's the 'cottage rule'.

    That said, powers like Dim Shift, Black Hole, sonic cage, and detention field could (and should) be replaced by new powers that have the same intent (AoE or ST control) and nobody would get upset. If the intent of those powers is to take a target or targets out of a fight so they cannot fight back, then any sort of control that does the same without making the target intangible would be an adequate (and superior) replacement. For instance, if sonic and FF had a hold instead of the cage nobody would complain. If Dim Shift and BH were replaced with a long duration knockdown (for example), nobody would be upset.

    Seriously, is there anyone out there that prefers making a target intangible to hard controlling it for the same duration?

To avoid being lynched after they *flat out replaced* what they called the "least popular" powers in the PPPs with "something more useful" - for instance, in one personal example, they replaced the AOE blast in Mace Mastery for Dominators with Personal Force Field - replacing a power I certainly used with one that was 100% useless for me.

    Not only did this remove powers people were using, but rendered (sometimes expensive) IOs completely useless and require a respec.

    Needless to say, after player reaction and a small mob with pitchforks and torches showing up at the offices, they decided to put in a fifth power instead of replacing them. They went from violating the cottage rule to *not.*

    Examples of other things people suggest that, yes, would be violations of the cottage rule:
    - Replacing Black Hole/Dimension shift
    - Replacing cage powers
    This is completely off-base. The example from changing the PPPs is totally different from changing something like Dimension Shift.

    For mace mastery (your example), replacing an AoE blast with a personal Def power is a 180 degree change and yes, should not be done (obey the cottage rule) as some people are perfectly happy with the original power. But replacing Dim Shift (an AoE control) with New Power X (a different AoE control) would not and should not be barred based on some 'cottage rule' as the spirit of the power remains the same. The reason to use Dim Shift is to take several targets out of a fight for a limited amount of time. This same effect could be achieved using a newly designed power that people would actually take as it wouldn't have the problems associated with phasing targets. With the example of the mace mastery potential switch, the devs were replacing an AoE damage power (something doms had little access to with their secondaries) with a personal defense buff. That completely would have violated the original intent of the AoE dmg power... to provide more damage to multiple targets... and replaced that damage potential with a personal survival tool that 'phased' the dominator out of action (lowering DPS) while PFF was active.

    Replacing Dim Shift with another AoE control would NOT violate any sort of cottage rule and your comparing such an idea with the PPP potential changes (and rightful outrage at the thought) is an apples to oranges situation. If you want to compare the two fairly, you'd have to say that the devs were looking to replace the mace aoe dmg with a new aoe dmg power that didn't have redraw. And the lack of redraw was enraging some who really liked the look of the mace as it was redrawn.
