Just to clarify, It doesn't HAVE to be a Super hero game, Though that's the most likely thing to happen.
If you were to make it any genre with city of heroes sort of abilities, Besides Supers, how would you handle it? -
Let's assume he makes it as the head cheese by some miracle again in this hypothetical little post. Post your most wanteds/quote someone who beat you to it. Only pick 2.
Coh's artstyle is a major one for me. -
Can someone please tell me how we got from giving up, To ponies, To religion, to more ponies, to more religion (or lack thereof?)
-
Well, This is a depressing thread. Blah.
Anyone heading to Ebon Hawk in SWTOR? I really thing that game has some potential to be fixed up to be awesome. Hell, It's the only other MMO i actually ENJOY the leveling process.
Because, Really. Most MMO's (WoW and CoH come to mind) Took about a year and a half before things STARTED to get good. -
Hm. Awfully negative responses.
I could see Plan Z working if the stars align, and they get funding.
In the meantime, For a online game to kind of "Fill the gap", Should i do TSW or SWTOR? -
Quote:I love how people like you seem to think you aren't being an annoying git by nitpicking a comment addressing how CLEARLY unprofessional NCsoft has been.for somebody not caring about these things you sure took your time to address them one by one.
Anyway, my condolences.
You're only pissing people off. -

Oh come now. Other Ncsoft games have so much unique game mechanics than -THAT!-
Like hitting an enemy until they die!
Swords
Axes!
Spears!
JUMPING
Instant death jumps!
A totally original loot system!
Totally original quest system!
Totally original combat system!
Heavy armor- Still get killed by three dudes, because it encourages better gear!
You can even be a elven sex sl- swords-person
TOTALLY ORIGINAL "RAID" SYSTEM WITH TOTALLY INTERESTING THINGS INVOLVED! -
You people are stupid, What kind of company do you expect to want money for something they won't profit off of if they just keep in in the corner? /sarcasm
Don't give me that competition BS. I'd bet the most they would lose from "Competition" of CoH wouldn't even break the millions. The amount to sell the game would be more than enough. -
Developer team that's very RELUCTANT to nerf ANYTHING that isn't absolutely just broken in every regard (Looking at you overwhelming bonfire.)
When you level up, you will still be able to take down hordes of enemies comparably fast compared to other sets OR have nasty debuffs/pets/whatever to make low damage less noticeable, You won't regret your decision and reroll just to not suck.
Melee classes get finishers (Hero) and executions (villain)- Think Age of Conan
You are able to adjust your character's personal difficulty/level much like this game.
Opening doors.
A well played tank won't NEED heals, But hey, They help.
A good RP hub area designed around the idea.
A dev team much like CoX's that cares/communicates with it's fanbase constantly.
NO GEAR. NO. DON'T.- CoX handled gear very well in that, You never really -had- to grind for it, And if they started to seem like they were doing lacklusterish, you could get buy some upgrades without really needing to grind, If you wanted to seriously min/max though, you had the option of grinding for IOs and such.
Certain powers (Elec, Magnets, Super strength, Gravity, Ect) could grab objects in the area and throw them. Damage, damage type and area depending on the object
A community of intelligent, No "Lolnoob" jackoffs.
Knockback recovery, For some reason no game really has this, Champions is the worst offender. If your toon has acrobatic powers or fly, You should be able to recover fairly easy from a knock.
Wall jumping- Because it would be awesome. Shut up.
I'll probably think up more later.
-----EDIT------
Thought up one. Villains players can create a mission, much like AE and assign it to a random door in any map they choose, Heroes can pull up a menu and "Stop" these crimes and are rewarded for the trouble. The villain gets "notoriety" and is able to pump up the difficulty/get better minions/weapons for his missions, for each successful "Failure" or if against a team, Each member of the team defeated by his mission, the villain's minions get a "Morale" boost and do extra damage and such. -

Because being a super hero with regeneration/invulnerability isn't good enough, You have to smash a guy in the face with his gun that somehow hurts you, dig around his unconscious person, grab a shiny pair of gloves, and wear them before you will be able to regenerate enough.
The gear concept was never fun for me, If i pick a power, i want that power to get gradually better without the help of "Gear"
Hell, I like the enchancement system, The only "Obsolete" enchancements are ones from five levels ago, And getting new ones literally just takes 5 minutes at a shop.
IOs are a whole new league, but were simple and rewarded you for knowing your strengths and weaknesses.
I really hope Matt starts another MMO, with the experience of CoH and his Veteran status among the dev team, he knows what we hate, what we like, and isn't likely to follow the WoW formula many games, Including SWTOR did. -
A torch based powerset.
Does bonus damage against Crey enemies.
((This is just for fun, Don't over-think this.) -
You know what? Maybe this won't effect NCsoft and maybe they will become successful in the future.
Good for them, My money isn't going to contribute to that, However. -
Quote:I agree, It's still one of the funnest things i've ever played, even if it's somewhat empty. It's still a puzzle though...the more I read about Nexon and NCSoft's endeavours over the last couple of years, the more logic I can see for keeping City of Heroes alive rather than killing it off - which is why I say the only logical reason I can find for closing our game is "it's yesterday man, we're all about TOMORROW!" ...which is kinda sad really, not to mention insulting to us all.
Funny thing is, City of heroes can be a very secretly complex game, And does things no other MMO has ever done or tried to do (Well)
Name one other MMO where you felt as badass as a ss/fire brute? NAME IT NOW! -
Diablo 3 won't even let me get over itself, Much less so CoH
-
I'm not seeing how a well-made emulator could tarnish CoH's good name any further. If anything, it'll just make NCsoft even MORE hated. Which is an accomplishment.
-
I think it's safe to assume that if Matt remade "CoH" (Let's face it, There are many loopholes to be exploited to this end.) that it would be even more awesome, Hell, They would be able to have more freedom with less "Spaghetti" code.

Quote:I thought Dredd, Punisher, Spawn and Kickass had HUGE cult followings...?Superhero movies that make a lot of money are based on A-list characters that cross multiple generations; Superman, Batman, X-Men, Spiderman, Ironman. Ones based on non A-list or newer characters or independent comics don't do nearly as well; Hellboy, Judge Dredd, Blade, Mystery Men, Punisher, Spawn, The Crow, Kick-***, Elekra.
There are exceptions to both lists of course. Also the most popular movies are also a series of sequels. Hook the public with the great first one and you got them for at least two more. -
Quote:This is funny to me, This is exactly what i would do.I'd play if there was only one server and I had to start all over from scratch. but I'd like at least 24 character slots (more would be better).
Only CoH could make me enjoy releveling, in any other game, Like WoW (Hate it) Or SWTOR (Very good, but only on the first playthrough for each faction) i would just quit. -
Quote:Not going to lie, I'd probably snap and take a plane ticket to Korea for a "Meeting."yeah. I have a feeling if NCSoft do give COX a whirl again, it probably will be more along the lines of the MMO leaders and how they do things, or turn it into COX-Fantasy style. Statesman a barbarian, Positron an elf, takes 504 hours to get to level 10 out of 80 and thats fast tracking, more loot stuff and costumes no longer there for looks.

Quote:I think the real main problem with the game was probably that the Devs, Until very recently haven't really started giving the people what they wanted. There is nothing that would have ever outsold WoW. They automatically had a huge fanbase from the existing single player Warcraft series.
However, I think CoH could have been much bigger, with a proper advertising budget and regular box releases.
I also think the lack of a level 50 "endgame" caused many people to leave, and the introduction of incarnate content came way too late to save the game. If we had the incarnate system introduced back in issue 6, I think the game would be in much better shape and not cancelled.
Seriously, Before halfway through 2010, Basically the devs only gave us the -REALLY- good ideas, Now they give us what we wanted since the beginning.
Not faulting them for being conservative with resources, Really, They had no way of knowing how successful it would have been.
