Quote:Six seasons of the show, gone in the blink of eye. You know, the whole "life flashing before your eyes in an instant" thing.
Hmmm, good interpretation. Can't argue that.
It was an interesting denoument. As well as an interesting take on the traditional happy ending to stories. -
Quote:Umm...I see it differently. The entire series was a flashback. To me, the part in the church was the Now, not that "Now" means a whole helluva lot in that timeframe.Yes and no. That's how the subplot of this season ended, but not how the narrative ended. I think that is what is polarizing people.
In essence, the subplot (the flash-sideways) was just another form of a flash-forward. We were seeing what will happen (from the vantage point of the main narrative). Eventually all these characters will go to that place and be reunited. But they all will lead different lives until that point. -
Must be your local ABC affiliate.
I'm also in Central time and mine's playing Jimmy Kimmel. We had a half-hour of news prior, then Jimmy at 11.
As to the alternate endings...meh. I was hoping for some actual different endings, not spoofs or such.
Also, glad I didn't buy the individual seasons. That complete collection looks neat. It's already up on Amazon for $150ish as a preorder. -

He was a construct. He was part of the "perfect"-ish world that they created as a means of meeting each other.

Quote:Or that our view of what comes after is meaningless and the whole point of the "Purgatory" is to just let go and come to terms with what we did while on this plane of existence. No punishment, no reward, just release and the chance to move on.I think in Ben's case, his Purgatory might be a bit harder to let go of. Plus, they never said it was Heaven necessarily, it's just that our culture associates bright white light in terms of moving on as Heaven. Considering hot sure Hurley was that Ben should be in the church with them, I'd have to say it wasn't to Heaven or Hell so much as moving on in general.
Because lets face it...the things we do here on this plane are so utterly meaningless and finite, that holding on to the wrongs, the rights, the indecisions, the hatreds, the things that hold us back from being is just plain dumb. We all will face that gate at some point, and the only real thing we can do is let go, forgive, and hope that we are in turn forgiven. -
Quote:Nope. They all died at various times. Some before (Shannon, Boone, Sayid, etc). Some died long after (Hurley, Ben, etc). They were all important to each other (excepting, IMO Ben) so naturally, they would look like what they looked like during that time, more or less. That's what it looked like to me. Although what Jack's dad said that some people die early or later makes me wonder if they were survivors and somehow the crash of Oceanic 815 was the thing that tied them all together.
You don't think old people go to Heaven or whatever and have to be old do you? Cuz that would suck. -
Quote:He wasn't ready to move on. The others were. Also, he wasn't really a part of their "group".That was a sad ending...and also confusing.
What did it mean when Ben said he wasn't going to go inside is the main thing that bothers me.
Ok, so that throws out that theory of mine to the universes, at least in terms of the show. -
See...the whole alternate/mainline universes parallels something that I believe is a reality. I hesitate to use the word "soul" for the religious connotations and baggage, but if we do indeed have something like that, then it is conceivable that it stretches across universe boundaries. If so, then we could potentially tap into the memories of those other uses. Possibly through extreme trauma or emotional distress.
Things like deja vu aren't really, but rather knowing that some part of us, in another universe, already experienced that.
Ya, it's kinda a ridiculous belief, but I likes ta dream. -
Dark Horse:
Empowered +1 - I've only read the first volume and I have to say...why was I not informed about this title before? Pretty damn funny, but it is fairly...adult...in terms of material (the superheroine spends quite a bit of time tied up and ball-gagged w/her supersuit in tatters). It's a far better, IMO, deconstruction of what superheroes go through than Watchmen could ever hope to be. In a way, I'd liken it to a more cartoon-y, more risque version of Common Grounds. I definitely think I'll be getting (for some reason, I managed to write "tweeting" there as opposed to "getting"...no idea how the heck that happened) the rest of the available volumes. -
The only thing that bothers me is the powerset respec. I've got several characters that were made back, well, back before Villains even came out that were made to a theme. The new powersets fit those characters better, like I've got a BS/Inv Scrapper that would be massively better, thematically, as a BS/Shield Scrapper.
What about offering it as a paid service, much like server transfers, renames, etc?
Rerolling is an option...except for the fact that he's got badges like the first Anniversary, second Anniv, etc. Now, if badges like those could be turned into account-wide, as opposed to character-specific, rerolling would be a viable option for me. -

Gonna try and update this week sometime. Not promising anything, but that's the goal.
-
What is included in this "Item Pack"? Is it all the stuff like the Booster Packs and the things from the Architect/GvE editions?
I know that's probably been asked, but didn't feel like looking through 400 replies for the answer. -
Hmmm...you need the Mesocricetus auratus-powered auxillary power system then for that setup.
It works really really well.
-
FatherXmas posted a most excellent analysis of power demands on systems for my upgrade question.
And I can tell you right now, that the video card I picked (Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 1gig GDDR5 w/Vapor-X cooling) out recommended a 450w PSU (well, ok, the same version without the vapor-x did), but it is chugging away quite happily on a stock 350w PSU. Along with 2 HDs, a DVD burner, and my sound card. -
I was shown this for comparison of cards. Think it was FatherXmas that linked me to it.
I can't speak as to the features of the card.
Edit - Depending upon the RAM in the card, you went up either four or five tiers.
Edit 2 - If you wanted to use the upcoming Ultra Mode, then you'd probably need to go three tiers higher to a 9800GT. That's the minimum card to get all the features, but at reduced quality, according to Positron. -
Quote:So then it's possible there are more single-core users out there wif fairly good vid cards.
It's an interesting question, at least to me.
I know when I put in that 5750 (thanks to all the peoples that helped with that BTW), I saw a pretty dramatic boost in Fallout 3. Went in and checked out CoX and cranked the settings up pretty high and got a decent FPS in Cimerora. Haven't tested it on teams yet though, so dunno how it'll handle it there.
Of course, I know that at some point, I'll need to get a completely new comp, but I'm hoping I can squeeze out a few more years with this one. I'm not really planning on doing too much more PC gaming as the rather draconian DRM schemes that are becoming prevalent are turning me off of it. CoX and the older games are about all I'll be using it for anymore. The last game I got for it is the GOTY edition of Oblivion. Though Fallout: New Vegas will be on the list of must-buys. -
Quote:Does my P4 w/HT count as single-cored?the cpu requirements won't change much as the processing engine isn't changing.
And lets be honest. If you've got a RadeonHD 4850 or better, you probably are not going to be running a single cored Sempron, Celeron, AthlonXp, Pentium4, or Socket 754 Athlon64... so it's not really that much of a big deal.
I really have no idea, honestly. -
Positron, please tell me that an HD 5750 will be able to do at least in the medium range for UM...
-
Haven't noticed anything like that.
I will say though, this card is quiet. I can't even notice any sound coming from it. -
Well, it came this morning (woohoo for free 3-day shipping!) and I've got it installed. Had to take out my TV tuner card though to make some extra room. It would've fit but the cooler bit was just barely above the card, so didn't want to risk it.
Comp hasn't blown up yet, though I haven't tested it on Co* yet. -
