Quote:Yes, they ditched Lucians. They left a whole bunch back on the planet Riley died on, iirc. They kept a few small number that objected to ditching the Terrans and that the IOC/SGC told them to keep. It happened in episode 2 of this season. They didn't have the resources to justify keeping people around who were trying to kill them not too long ago. They haven't ditched any of the Lucians, every Lucian that was alive at the end of the first EP of this season is still on the ship. They've only given three of them any screentime since then though. Teabag, Gin and the blond dude that Lt Johansen has a crush on.
Im thinking Gins alive on earth, after the death of Amanda Perry (who was in Gins body), Gin becomes earth's greatest expert on ancient systems and ends up coming back to destiny using the stones.
Chole and Gin swap bodies, Eli has sex with Gin in Chole's body. -
Quote:This isn't about being a brilliant superteam, it's about Eli being the go-to whipping boy for when they want to mess with someone. The guy just can't get a damn break. The ONE woman on Destiny who has shown the slightest bit of interest in the geek, and they kill her off WITH A GUY WHO HAD NO PURPOSE BEING LEFT ON THE SHIP. I mean, they ditched most of the rest of the Lucians, so why'd they leave him behind? I can't recall anything he's done that justified his remaining aboard, other than being the brooding malcontent.Oh, boohoo... I'm sorry Destiny isn't filled with sunshine and rainbows and fuzzy bunnies. I frankly find the mood of the series refreshing. We already had two shows about brilliant superteams that solve everything in 60 (or sometimes 120) minutes. It's about time we had a problem they can't solve while they're stuck with lives and people they barely tolerate. After all, Star Trek had supercrew after supercrew and look how lame it got by the time of Enterprise.

Eeee...Granny and the Furies! Curse you CW for not having an HD station! Watching SD on a HD tv is the pits!

Was I the only one hearing, "Is Col. Young gonna hafta choke a *****?" in their head?

Eh, I can kinda understand normal Kenny. He did speak unmuffled in the SP movie, as well.
Though I wonder how the episode with Kenny in Heaven playing video games falls into it, since we now have a in-universe explanation for his myriad deaths throughout the series. It also kinda treads on, but also reinforces, the episode where Kenny died, but we saw his mom with a baby Kenny and the dad said something along the lines of "This is the 50th time this has happened!".
Yes, I'm looking at this way too deeply. -

Quote:Without saying too much, all I can say is "Wait for it..". This is all just set up at the moment. I don't know if they'll get to it this season or not though. Only four more episodes left and at the rate they are going, they won't make it there.I have to admit perhaps it is just an issue with this group of survivors. I am going to want to get somewhere defensible with a food and water supply perhaps even an island of sorts.
And I am going to want there to be "war councils" on what the plans are and what are we going to do. I want a long term survival plan.
I am not going to camp near an overrun city for long.
Also where are the archers? If guns make noise to draw in more zombies, I am getting bows and arrows ASAP and using molotov cocktails on them.
I'm not bringing these up as a dismissive criticism of the show because it is very good but these are the things that occur to me when watching it. But at some point some of them need to start acting like soldiers would and not be like the walking dead themselves.
Molotovs? Sorry bud, I don't want you anywhere near my zombie survival group. All you end up with then is a flaming ambulatory zombie until the brain cooks.
I'm fairly sure WWZ called them herds. Why herds? Think about it.

Today, I was wearing a UNSC t-shirt, a Flash hoodie, a Desert Punk baseball cap, and on said cap was a badge pin of the Tanith First and Only.
Have I attained true geekdom? In one fell swoop, I covered video games, comics, anime, and miniature gaming. -
Quote:When your day consists of just trying to get enough to eat, staying alive, in a fugue/shock state most likely, and probably existing on very little sleep, do you really think they are going spend time ruminating on what caused it?Well even if someone would just say "when I woke up zombies were killing people all over the place" and then someone else would say "I saw on CNN/Fox News/ABC/NBC/CBS that it was happening all over the world at once". That would be enough for me.
I mean they would have to talk about this to the new guy around the campfire just as normal human curiosity and behavior I would think. Even if they know nothing they ought to be speculating about it just as they discuss the known zombie behaviors.
I'd tend to think not, especially when your group just put down 15 of the buggers that day. You aren't going to care what caused it, you are only going to care about what you can do to stay alive another day. Look at them, they are camping out and not really secure. A herd coming in could wipe them out any day. -
Quote:Certainly, it would only be natural for them to wonder and more credible if they do, but I wouldn't get upset if there was never a definitive answer.
As for a situation for a group wanting to find out what started it all? To me, that would be even less believable. Unless they come across someone who was closely involved or around ground zero of the event, how would they even know where to start looking for answers. It wouldn't just be a suicide run, it would be a suicide run without a plan. And if they do run into someone who would know, it would feel too coincidental. Too Deus ex Machina.
There's also the advantage of having an unknown. And this show, which to this point has played up suspense very well, has a huge helping hand with having a horrific element that has no known origin. You fear what you don't know and the characters don't know much about the zombies. Their fear is what sells the suspense. Why get rid of that?
****SPOILERS AHEAD******
In the later issues, like volume 10 or 11ish, Rick and group come across someone who claims to be working on solving the zombie problem. He basically looks like a redneck, but seems like a scientist type. They are trying to get to D.C. to a secure governmental base.
I haven't read the latest volume, nor the latest issues, so I don't know what happens with that town they run across. The last volume I have is the one with the Hunters, iirc. -
Next step will be the daughter being able to edit memories of those she comes in contact with.

It's Rush...he's always looking for an angle. Most likely, he put in a backdoor access command into the bridge so that they couldn't lock him out, or he set up a timed-command that he has to answer otherwise it shuts down.
WTH was the Earth Controller ever allowed to stay with the ship? He doesn't seem to have anything to offer, other than being a complete jackass.
Alas poor Giin, we barely knew her Horatio...
The lone, abandoned ship had me wondering though...how many derelicts are there in the Universe? Lonely, spinning hulks, just whiling away the eons... -
Have you ever considered Project Wonderful ads? See 'em all the time on webcomics that I read. No idea how much they cost though.

Quote:In the comics, the zombies are the ever present danger to the group. You can't ignore them, they just are, it's the new status quo. I do wonder though, how they are going to present them differently, since they've went to the point of them using rocks, picking up teddy bears, and have seemingly some intelligence (not much, mind you).I am very glad you posted this. I had been approaching it from the point of view regarding the zombies. How they got started, is there a cure, why do they do what they do, etc. This gives me a much better approach to enjoy the show and just let the zombies be the plague on the land not the focus of the series.
I am very curious to see how the show will continue to progress.
The Walking Dead is about the characters, not the zombies. It could just as easily have been a nuclear war or alien invasion that caused the apocalypse, but it was zombies this time around. You get to see the underpinings of what it takes to survive and just how far people are willing to go. You see the dark sides of humanity (and believe me, there are parts that are EXTREMELY dark) as well as the little beacons of light that make us redeemable. -

Something else to try...I noticed the fried chicken in Troy's thread, but since that is meandering wildly off-topic (par for the course 'round here...), thought I'd say it here...
Fried chicken drizzled with honey.
You heard me right. Honey on fried chicken. The sweet of the honey is oh so good of a counterpoint to the salty and greasy of the chicken. The trick is not too much, such that the chicken becomes sticky, but rather just enough so that you get some with a bite. -
Quote:Problem is, that Merle, T-Dog and all those others in Atlanta, except for Andrea and Glenn, are characters that are not in the comics. And even then, Glenn is the only one that goes into the town to get supplies. Haven't seen enough of the camp yet to make a determination on characters there, though with the exception of Merle's brother (seen from the previews), the seem to be consistent with the comics.I liked the second episode, a logical flow from last week and I'm still hooked without question. I may go out and buy the graphic novels at this point.
Now, there were a lot of characters tossed into the mix at once, though which seemed a touch muddled. I was also confused why shots fired over there caused a mass of attacking zombies at the doors to the store, but there had to be a direct tension point driving some urgency.
An article/review I saw quick over lunch of the second episode was far less favorable - The Atlantic, I think. He made a couple good points on the jarring entry of some of the character issues. -

Quote:Should I do it? Should I? Should I? Oooooh...the temptation is killing me...I think that episode topped the first. I spent more time freaking out and yelling at the monitor than I have in years.
"One more thing. He's an organ donor." Perfect tension breaker.
Glenn got out! And the preview for next week's episode reunites Rick with Laurie, Shane and Carl, and brings Michael Rooker back for at least one more episode. I just spent a week bouncing up and down in anticipation of this episode... I don't know how I'm going to make it through the next week of waiting.
If I could marry a television show, this would be the one. <3
Please keep in mind, that the show is departing from the comic in some decent ways. It still kept some of the most important bits, but how they get to those bits is a'changin'. -
Did anyone see the name on that van? Ferenc Builders.
Fun fact...Elizabeth Bathory, aka the Blood Countess, was engaged to a Ferenc Nadasdy. Ferenc is also a Hungarian name, and who else is from Hungary (more accurately Wallachia)? Vlad The Impaler...aka Dracula.
Nice little in-joke for the fact that Glenn and Rick were covered in blood and guts. -
Quote:I could so spoiler this for you, but I won't. >.<Oh MY, that was an intense beginning to the second episode.
I hope Laurie and Shane get eaten.
I hope Glenn survives.
I wonder if that thing with Rick's hand was foreshadowing something.
And I wonder what he's going to do with that toy he snagged in the tank.
Back on!
As to the comic itself, the zombies are more of a backdrop than anything else for the interaction between the people and how they cope with things going to hell. Yes, it is very depressing, but there are bright spots. Not very many, but some. -

I'm only in my 30's and I thought Johnson too. Mainly because I haven't given a flying fig about basketball since MJ was done.
