Quote:Don't think it was so much cancelled with no notice as the writing was on the wall and it had been discussed, along with V's cancellation. Iirc, someone mentioned (or linked to) another article that Benz and Chiklis were shopping around for pilots for next season. That pretty much states what needed to be knowed.I didn't see an official thread on it, but as an epilogue to this thread the show officially go the axe on May 13. The show had it's problems, but it was an improvement over Heroes. That a superhero show was cancelled with no notice on a forum such as this shows what little interest the target audience actually had in the show in the end. Oh, well!
In my imagination, the Powell's will always be out there secretly working for the government to stop the bad guys. -
According to a Yahoo article, this will be the last season of Chuck and it will be 13 episodes.

Quote:Of course it wasn't right. And they need to face some kind of punishment.Well they are doing a restructure if I read the new right, of how their Network Security is handled. But personally I can understand some of the irritation towards Sony about this.... But the hackers responsible NEED to be arrested. They are in no damn way in the right and sure as hell need to pay for what they did.
However, by that same token, it should never have gotten to this point. In terms of how their network was handled.
Hackers are always going to be around. If someone is determined to get in, they'll get in. But you can make it as hard as possible for them to get in. From what I've seen, that isn't what happened. -

There better be sum'fin after 36 frickin' volumes of manga!
I've got the first dvd collection of Axis Powers Hetalia + the second season of Negima coming. From what I hear, APH is hilarious. Being able to turn WWII-ish era stuff into comedy? Just gotta see that.
I'm starting to think I need to downsize my anime collection. I've got four bookshelves (3 4-level shelves, one 5-level shelf) filled with the stuff. Think I'm spending around two bills every month on the stuff. I'm just thankful that a lot of the distributors are going to the half-seasons rather than the 4-episode releases anymore. I know whoever finds my stuff after I croak is going to be in the money, what with the LEs and stuff... >.< -
Quote:I know. And it doesn't help (for the American viewers anyway) having to try and decipher British slang and/or accents. But to be fair to Doctor Who's sound guys, it's not just their show. A lot of movies and other shows think that if volume level 3 is good, volume level 27 is better.I'd have to agree with this thought as well.
Just finished watching the episode and while it was awesome/fun there were quite a few lines I missed/had no idea what they were saying because of the music in the background.
Also happened in the 2nd episode too (when River, The Doctor, Rory and Amy were 'fighting' the Silence)...
Quote:Edit:
"It's a bed....with a ladder!"
Great line
Though, it hurts like hell when you fall out of one. Plus there's that who panicking thing of waking up in midair... -
Oy...can one of you Brits go over there and tell the sound mixer guy to lower the blaring music and sound effects volume in the final mix? Good god, don't need trumpets overpowering any and all spoken lines. "Oh, Rory and the Doctor are talking about nothing of import, better have a 70-piece orchestra playing at max volume!"

Hell, the fight scene between Jim and the Teleporter in NOF in the first epsiode was better. And that was the first ep! You'd expect something massive for the sendout of a 10-year series. But that's about par for the course for Smallville. Don't get me wrong, I've liked the series and have most of the seasons on DVD, but they could just as well put up a black screen saying, "And then they fought. Clark kicked his butt. The End".

Quote:The problem is, that they build things up over the season and you expect some monster throwdown. Some one is not so awesome at math
the finale served its purpose, We got to see him fly.. put on the suit, accept being Superman.
People want a Movie block buster budget to do things that can typically only be done in movies.. in a TV show with a MUCH smaller budget is totally silly to use as a crutch to expect such things.
He pushed a planet.. they did the best they could, we also say him in space.. it was great.
The playing of the Superman Theme sealed it for me.
Take the Doomsday fight, or lack thereof, for instance. We get the buildup throughout the entire season that he's such a big bad. What happens? Relatively nothing for a final fight between Clark and DD. What was it? 30 seconds at best? And handled off-camera? Can't recall for sure, but it definitely wasn't even on par with the weakest fight scene in No Ordinary Family.
Granted, we aren't going to get the finale of JLU here in terms of fighting between Clark and Darkseid, but come on... -
Quote:Unless you (or someone you know) are growing the tomatoes (and the herbs/spices and mining the salt, and depending upon whether or not you put meat it in, raising the animals), as well as growing and grinding the wheat and then literally making the noodles yourself, you are still supporting the agricorps. They are... jar of sauce? what the smeg? FROM SCRATCH DAMN YOUR EYES!
ahem.
Mixing together canned tomato sauce/paste, hothouse tomatoes, jars of bought herbs, along with feed-lot meat and a bag of dried noodles? Sorry, still not from scratch. Considering all the companies involved are most likely just subsidiaries of one of those large agri-corps, you're still buying their products. Just in a different form.
Naturally, there are different levels of what one considers "from scratch". I make my own beef jerky, but I don't really consider it "from scratch". I can customize it to what I want, but I'm not deluding myself into thinking that it's from scratch when I have bought steak, onion/garlic powder, salt, pepper, and various sauces. I may be mixing various things together and making something unique, but a lot more people did a lot more work than I did in its creation. My hashbrowns are a lot closer to "from scratch", as I grow my own potatoes (Yukon Golds are awesome BTW), my own onions (from onion sets, not seeds), and then shred and freeze 'em. -
Finally finished all 70 episodes of Cardcaptor Sakura. That last half-ish with Eriol felt extremely tacked on and was used to artifically extend the storyline. Sure, there was a legitimate story in there, but it was nowhere near as good, IMO, as the first half. And then when we finally get to the denoument? It kinda felt like the end of Ranma 1/2, only slightly less.

Quote:The Playboy Club...fail. Just. Fail.Official NBC announcements.
Well we do get a gritty cop drama set in a world where Grimm's fairy tales are real. I'm guessing a half a season for that. Yea NBC.
On the remake train, ABC is relaunching Charlie's Angels. Oh boy.
Three cop dramas plus another show based on someone's stand up comedy plus another Will Arnett vehicle. Fantastic choices there NBC! Way to stretch out of your comfort zone! -
Quote:Unless you, or someone you know, is growing that food then there is little difference between buying a bag of spaghetti + a jar of sauce and buying a noodle bowl to warm up in the microwave.Well at least we cook and not just let some agro-corp precook it then warm it up in a microwave. :P
I think the only thing I boil when cooking is pasta and potatos... steam that veg, STEAM IT!
Of course, the limit of British agriculture is growing fog and soccer hooligans...

Best thing about Bionic Woman was MM's synopsis afterwards. He (or she as the case may be) needs to find another show to snark on in a similar vein.

How about:

Quote:It's comedy, yes. But it's basically a parody of every fantasy type setting ever. For example, no one ever talks about what happens to barbarian adventurers when they get old (presuming they are in fact good enough to GET old). Pratchett tackles that with Cohen the Barbarian...a geriatric still out there adventuring when he should be in a rest home eating a mildly steamed carrot.Gaiman is wonderful, but I've never read much Pratchett. My initial impression was that he was a poor man's Piers Anthony, what with the hyuk-yuk-yuk comedy and the punning in a fantasy setting. What should I read to disabuse me of this notion?
To me, the Watch books are the best of the bunch. But the Moist von Lipwig ones, Small Gods, and Pyramids are right up there. -

Quote:Hindsight is 20/20. People can look back at both those shows and learn what they did wrong. In Heroes it was the meandering plotlines, the focus on completely irrelevant characters, and the lack of any impetus to actually show superpowered fights.Granted "The Cape" was no where in the same League as Wonder Woman is. But what I'm saying is, given NBC seems to be struggling in ratings and such over the last few years, they have had 2 super hero shows, Heroes, which faltered after it's first season and steadily went into decline, and The Cape which just never did very well.
That being said, I think NBC might be hesitant to try another Super Hero based show, given their questionable luck with it in the past.
Is Wonder Woman a better property than the Cape? Absolutely, and I'd watch a Wonder Woman show for a couple episodes just because, which is more than I gave the Cape.
But do I trust NBC execs to realize the distinction between a catastrophe like The Cape, and Wonder Woman, and then make Wonder Woman a good show? No I do not.
They could look at what No Ordinary Family did right and build upon that.
It could just be that the average IQ in this country is hovering barely above single digits and that anything beyond the latest singing and dancing show is too much for their mushy minds to handle. In which case, NBC would be better off making the series "Ow! My balls!" to cater to that demographic. -
Quote:The Cape was flawed on several levels. I don't think we can use that as a measuring stick against an established entity like Wonder Woman. Especially when his villains consisted of two guys with bad skin conditions, an eye drop addict, and someone with a split personality.Yeah, some WW is better than no WW. But given that the Cape seems to have failed for NBC, I wonder if they will go out on a limb on another Super Hero show, particularly after Heroes flamed out...
I'd still watch at least an episode or two, more if it's good.
Yay Chuck! More people need to watch that show, even as hit and miss as parts of Season 4 were, it's better than most of the stuff on TV if you ask me.
Besides, attractive woman in a leotard? Head and shoulders above a sweaty-looking, orange-colored, original creation that was saddled with a seemingly cursed Firefly alum. -
