Quote:There's also the whole "Damian is a knife freak that would be more suited to apprenticing the Joker" bit.Well, hopefully we see a return of Stephanie Brown as the Spoiler. But I'd rather see Tim Drake.
Also I don't see the difference between father/son duo of Bruce/Damian, when it seems like the only difference from Bruce/Dick is they have a blood relation.
But ya, I have to agree with Foamie. On the upside, there's years worth of Legend of the Dark Knight, Nightwing, Robin, Gotham Knight, and other stuff still to read.
Quote:We are concentrating on story first and accessibility and bringing in new readers. We're not doing anything that will be pushing away either of those two groups. -
When Raven was in the bed trying to seduce <Name Withheld>. She was shifting forms and for a second, she shifted into a more adult version of herself that looked quite a bit like Rebecca Romijin from the first three movies. MentalMaden confirms my seeing of the cameo.

Bacon as the evil German scientist? Good casting and sold that part of the character.
Bacon as Shaw? Not so much.
And ya, that second cameo was pretty quick. Basically, if you blinked, you missed it. -
Quote:They did Emma's diamond form pretty well. They showed her machinations decently enough. It's the actress we were discussing. She was simply, IMO, wrong for the part of Emma Frost. One can play the role "right", yet still be the wrong person for a part.I haven't seen this, I see it tomorrow. What did you want from Emma/Jones? She's just eye-candy anyway. I mean in the comics, Emma was like a Sister Psyche but with better clothes and more money. The stuff Emma did, how can you show in a movie? Her world is mental. If Jones was subdued/stoic then she played the role right.

Quote:To me, the character was pushing at least mid 30's. It was little details, like around the eyes and the mouth that just basically shouted, "This isn't a woman in her 20's!". That's fine and all, but the character should've been cast more age-appropriate for the show, especially if they want to age it-up for sequels later on in the careers of the mutants. As far as Emma Frost goes, Jones was a little underwhelming, yeah. Visually, I have no complaints, mind you.
If memory serves, around the beginning of Generation X, Emma was strongly implied to be in her mid to late 30's. From that point I took her to be that age, until a recent comic where she whines on panel to the effect of "26 isn't that old!"
But like I said, spoiled by the art from guys like Greg Horn, Andy Park, etc., in regards to Emma. According to wiki, a woman named Alice Eve was originally supposed to play her, and looking at the pics...wowza. -
Quote:Even positing the possibility of cosmetic surgery, Emma in the movie was a bit on the...mature...side. She'd be (probably) in her 70's around the time of X-1.Well, Emma herself HAS admitted to cosmetic surgery here and there...
Quote:AFAIK, there aren't any Stan Lee cameos in the X-films. -
Ugly Americans - A social worker in a universe where Hell, demons, tree people, sentient robots, land whales, bird people, zombies, etc., exist. Said social worker is having an affair with his boss, Callie Maggotbone, who just happens to be a half-demon, half-human succubus. Pretty funny with the taking of political correctness to the extreme. Lives with a zombie roommate. Starting a new season this summer on Comedy Central.
Drawn Together - Unbelieveably raunchy animated program on Comedy Central. Different stereotypical characters, like the Superman-knockoff, the gay elf, the princess, the Pokemon-type creature, etc all live in a house together. Reminiscent of Big Brother in its execution.
Robot Chicken - 15 minute episodes show on Adult Swim. Done by Seth Green from Buffy/Family Guy/Greg the Bunny. Takes classic toys like He-Man, GI Joe, Transformers, and puts the in snippet scenes. My favorites tend to be the Skeletor ones.
Night Court - Late 80's-ish show about, you guessed it, a night court in New York. You have the wisecracking, magic-doing judge, the womanizing prosecutor (who also happened to be a womanizing CIA agent on Chuck), the somewhat dim-witted baliff, amongst others. -
Quote:I thought it was more along the lines of Chuck mind-riding in Shaw. That would allow him to see/hear Erik, like it appeared to be. Sorta like when he was mind-riding that Ruskie guard. It's probable that the pain experienced by Shaw would be transferred to Chuck. Imaginary pain, but pain nonetheless.Like others have said, it was Charles holding Shaw in place. It basically came down to two impossible options: he could release Shaw from his mental hold and let him defend himself against Erik (likely killing his friend and who knows how many others), or he could continue holding Shaw at bay and allow his friend to take his revenge even though he disagreed strongly with letting him go down that path.

I don't know much about X-lore, so please forgive me. That girl with the insect wings should really have been called Pixie or something. "Angel" is just completely wrong of a codename, IMO. Not even to touch on the probability that her bones would be fragile as hell for those wings to support her and zip around like that. Her crashing should've killed her.
January Jones...meh. She didn't really do anything for me. Just didn't find her all that attractive. I think I've been spoiled by art from guys like Greg Horn in regards to Emma. No way that most women could live up to that. She tried, but I think they could've found a different actress for that part.
For those interested, there is NO post-reel scene. No point in staying through the credits.
Dunno if anyone else saw it, but there appeared to be another cameo. At least it looked like to me...when Raven shifted to a more adult form, it looked A LOT like Rebecca Romijin.
Did anyone see ol' Stan the Man? I didn't. -
Quote:Apparently, there is a different definition of the word "reboot" used amongst the DC offices than is used amongst the community at large. Resetting everything and ignoring what's come before? Try and spin it any way you want, it's a reboot.
(And by the way, let me just reiterate this point: this is the launch of the New DCU. It is not a reboot. I think you will soon discover why that is.) -
Quote:Ya, I believe that about as much as ED was in the works for a long-time before it hit the servers.Word is DC has been working on and building up to this, line-wide (notice that pretty much every major DCU title is ending its storyline just in time for the post Flashpoint shenanigans to kick in) for at least 2 years. That's hardly a knee-jerk reaction to declining sales.
If DC is wanting to bring in new, younger readers, then why are they abandoning pretty much every iconic female outfit in favor of pants? Do they really think young male readers are going to be interested in Wonder Woman: Office Lady? Are they really expecting mass loads of strident feminists who think female heroes are little more than sex appeal to suddenly say, "Thank you for removing the sex appeal from this character, I will now read this comic!"?
If the problem was, say, Supergirl flashing on every page, that could be solved by having your artists learn to draw scenes such that she isn't. Continuity wide reclothing is not the way to go. What's going to happen to characters like Power Girl? I mean, hell, even in that promo pic, Wonder Woman looks like one sharp sneeze will send her into wardrobe malfunction territory, but she just HAS to have her legs covered... -
Quote:I'll pick up the remaining back issues of things that I've missed, like Gotham City Sirens and whatnot, but I think this'll kill any interest in DC for me.Same here, except it's those 2 plus Image, Vertigo and BOOM! Studios for me.
Which is a shame.
Image/IDW/Dark Horse/and manga publishers are it. DC needs to realize they and Marvel aren't the only game in town any more. This is the classic case of taking the bird in the hand for granted and chasing after the two in the bush that they'll never catch... -
Quote:Straw that broke the camel's back.Looks like skirts are out and pants are in with the reboot
Come on. If a person is nigh-invulnerable, why would they cover themselves head-to-toe or beyond what is socially "acceptable" (or acceptable to their character)?
This adds yet more fail to the pile. But, I can at least thank DC because now I'll be saving more money. Maybe I'll buy trades, maybe not. I'll complete the collections of previous titles that I have (just finished the Cassie Cain Batgirl series!), but new stuff? Meh.
As to the whole argument that people can't follow the characters or understand stuff...here's a hint...
QUIT WITH THE YEARLY CRISES/CROSSOVER/MASSIVE SUPER ULTRA MEGA ZORD EVENTS THAT CHANGE EVERYTHING BUT NOT REALLY! How many different "events" have happened in the last five years? I'm a decent comic buyer/reader, but I have no fething clue of what's going on.
Tell stories that don't require a person to buy 18 different comic series to just get the full thing! If I'm buying a Batman comic, I don't want to see, "Continued in Blue Beetle #23!". An argument could be made that other Bat-titles is fair game, provided that something is shown in the comic that would make it relevant to the other title (Detective Comics continued in Nightwing for example). -
Think I need to take a break from these forums. Too many people that I find myself arguing with when it isn't necessary. Maybe I need to unplug and play with kittehs for a while.

Watched the first disc of Axis Powers Hetalia...wasn't expecting the Digi Charat-esque method of episodes, namely the 5-minuteish run time for each.
The stereotyping is insane, but funny. I almost feel sorry (note: almost) for Germany, due to his association with Italy. America and England have a neat little rivalry ya thing going on. Russia sits back and acts nice and friendly, but then scares the heck out of France. Canada gets ignored by everyone. China beats up other countries using a wok and a ladle. And Roman Empire gets two funny little vocals (Hell on Earth is... and Heaven on Earth is...). -
Quote:The first Starship Troopers movie is enjoyable enough if you don't have the knowledge of the books there (the Skinnies, the power armor, etc). Doesn't hurt that one of my friends from college was an extra in it.I can agree with the LotR. I think the core of the story was still there.
I didn't realize that Starship Troopers was a novel until this post. Just reading the Wiki entry I can see a the difference. Gonna have to go look for the book now.
If you want a more faithful adaptation, look up the Starship Troopers CGI cartoon. Called the Roughneck Chronicles. Quite a neat little show. -
Quote:Pollution, by-products from manufacture, smell, deforestation. Lotsa stuff.how is paper, which comes from trees - a renewable resource - not eco-friendly?
Quote:This is badly, badly incorrect. Now, some TYPES of film may no longer be made - but even Polaroids (I mean the instant type) have had someone pick up production of the "film." But film itself is still easily available for 35mm cameras. (Most common type.) Nobody makes 110 any more, its niche has been taken over by digital (110 being for those thin point and shoots for casual use - the very market for cheap digital cameras.)
Quote:VHS, I can still go to Wal-mart and buy. (Saw it just the other day, actually.) They're still selling VHS-only players and VHS/DVD combos. They're simple and cheap - people understand "put in a tape and have it record." -
My Imperator-class Battle Titan laughs at your puny preparations! My Deathstrike Cannon will make short work of any zombie hordes or planets that get in my way!

Quote:Because as your electronics go bad, you'll invariably have to replace them. Replacing them can mean that the "new" one doesn't support that older format that you had with the older electronic item. The manufacturers really have no real impetus to continue to support "old" formats, especially when there tends to be a monkey see, monkey do attitude amongst the makers. What does electronics going bad have to do with changing formats?
Quote:And my e-reader DID go bad. And it was replaced for free. And I could still read my e-books on my computer while it was getting replaced.
Quote:Firstly, amazon has nothing to do with my e-reader or e-books. Secondly, I have backups of all my books. So unless you think they're going to hack my computer and delete my files, I do own my e-books.
Quote:DVDs still work, and are still being sold.
Quote:...what exactly is your argument here? What does that have to do with an ereader? If anything, that's an argument in favor of an e-reader, since you can carry around a slim device instead of several thick books.
And why would I be carrying around so many books? If I'm not in my home, then I'm out for a reason.
Quote:...what? You do know you can do multiple things on a vacation, right? I can sit in bed, relaxing, and listen to music, then go out and go hiking.
Quote:You're talking about not wanting to "pollute" your vacation with non-vacation activities. I'm asking how reading a book from an ereader is somehow bad, but reading a book is just fine.
I'm done arguing with you. Please, feel free to have the last word if that's important to you. I won't respond to you further in this thread. -
Quote:And how many MP3 players have you had to buy because the battery mysteriously starts to stop functioning or starts to lose its charge? My mp3 player is on the way out because it's charge can be measured in fractions of an hour. Cheaper to buy a new one than a new battery.Just like you've had to buy multiple mp3 players because they keep on changing formats? Oh, wait...
Quote:There's no way to stop "supporting the format". My ebooks work on my e-reader. They can't sneak into my house and make it stop working. And arbitrarily changing formats would just be ridiculous.
Arbitrarily changing formats and functions is what electronics peddlers DO. Why sell or let people have something that'll work forever, when you can sell them something with planned obsolecense (sic) and have them buy a NEW thing. You can see that with DVDs and Blu-Rays. They want you to have to buy the "new" format so they can charge you for the same content again.
Quote:Let's see...one e-reader. The same single e-reader that I've had since I got it.
...doesn't seem to be increasing to me.
Quote:...what? Ignoring the fact that you can listen to music (or whatever) and do vacation stuff at the same time...
Quote:How exactly is reading an e-reader that radically different than reading a book? It's the same activity. -
Quote:I never have to buy another e-reader because they stopped supporting that format. Replacing a paper book is a lot cheaper than replacing a reader.Well with a reader I never have to buy another copy of the same book because I wore it out from rereading it.
Quote:I never have to worry about someone taking my book away from me because I can download a simple program that lets me read my books on any Kindle reader, Ipad, Iphone, Ipod, Android, Blackberry, PC, or Mac.
Quote:I never have to worry about replacing my library because of unforseen disasters like a house fire, or flooding from busted pipes, new roof leak etc.
Quote:I don't have to buy large pieces of furniture that clutter up my home just to store books.
Quote:My entire library of Ebooks is always at my fingertips whenever I want to read something. I never have to be concerned that my mood may change about what I want to read and not be able to choose something else. -
The lemon-juice version is very much of an "eat it now" type cheese. It doesn't keep for very long at all. Great though if you are making dip for a party as you can add whatever you want to it, like dill or garlic or even hickory flavoring. I like it because you know what went into it, plus, it's kinda fun to make.
-
Well, with a paper book I never have to recharge it, never have to worry about someone taking it from me with no recourse on my part, and never have to worry about changing formats rendering it unreadable.
Besides, bookcases full along the walls looks a lot neater than a tablet.
