  1. Anyone else see this yet? Just got back from it and I thought it was pretty neat. Good fight scenes and the guy playing Abe seemed to fit the part pretty well.

I may be crazy, but for those of you who've seen it, was the guy at the end who I think it is?
  2. I just realized that Andrea, Carol, and quite possibly Dale, from The Walking Dead were in The Mist with the Punisher.

Nah, I'm thinking more along the lines of George Carlin's bit about walling off States and dropping our more...eccentric...citizens within.

Think about it. We wall off Florida and drop all our non-hilarious loonies and prisoners into there. Throw in some zombies just for fun. Set up cameras everywhere. Make sure the coasts are patrolled so that the prisoners aren't building rafts to escape.
  5. Could we just, ya know, wall off Florida? It's not like there's much happening there besides zombies and hurricanes...

It was season 6 I think. Basically, it was an Anthology of Interest-type episode, but with holidays.

As to hiding in the limestone caverns beneath Planet Express, I would imagine that he would simply shut down with a subroutine in place to reactivate him at a specific time. He kept coming back up from the caverns the instant after he left so I suspect he was turning himself off and waiting.
This is Bender we're talking about. He would be in his most favorite company...himself. Doubt he would shut himself off. His head was also able to last for 1000 years in the New Mexico desert.

Also, I don't think any episodes after the movies have dealt with this yet but Bender should still have the time code in his memory. Yes the scammers erased the code from him when they were done with it, but at the end Bender had to reread the code to go back and stick the code on frozen Fry. So unless he had another erasure he still has the time code.
But wouldn't that Bender have ended up in the cavern and been crushed? Time travel makes my head hurt. Blanking on the specifics of that.

Backup power supply? He was able to survive for <x> million years while waiting for the crew to turn into oil and however many years he spent in the cavern beneath the Planet Express building with his swag.

They did, however, make Godweiser or something like that. One of Bender's "miracles" was to reflect light onto the crops used to make his booze. He ended up setting them on fire.

That's not exactly something that's never been used before. The episode where the robots rebel (and the Prof gets some hot, dry love with Mom) had Greeting Card stating that alcohol will be banned in the new worker's paradise. Then there was the time Bender got religion and decided that mineral oil would replace his booze consumption.
  10. The only real criticism I had was the selection of VA for Bev in the first episode. I am not a fan of Wanda Sykes.
  11. One hour season premiere tonight at 9pm Central. Let's hope that it's better than the stumbling, IMO, of season 6.

We can assume that the writer wants us to think it's 'Somewhere Else' since he chose to call it something else.

Oh, and while we're on the topic of assumptions, I also think it's fairly safe to assume the Engineers didn't crash-land on LV-223 (not counting that one time they got rammed by an Earth spaceship.) But hey, for all we know LV-223 could be an abandoned junkyard. If they forgot one of their own in the trunk, that'd explain why he's so pissed when we let him out.
LV-426 could stand for "Landing Vehicle 426". Namely, the place where vehicle 426 landed, rather than a system directly. The actual planetary system for 426 is in Zeta Reticuli and 223 is in Gleise 86.

Last year is a bad example (lot of high-grossing horrible movies) but let's look at it any way. Out of the top 10 highest grossing films of the year (Harry Potter, Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, Twilight, Mission: Impossible, Kung Fu Panda 2, Fast Five, The Hangover part 2, The Smurfs, and Cars 2) four of them were well received critically (65 or higher on Metacritic/Rottentomatoes) and only The Smurfs had overall negative reviews. Everyone else had a mix of reviews that ended up being average. Currently Prometheus has generally positive reviews as does The Avengers, Men In Black 3, and Madagascar 3.

Critics a lot of the times seem to generally enjoy the movies that are popular, the issue is that a lot of them also really like movies that are challenging or dull or simply interesting from a film standpoint and those are usually not popular with the 'masses'.

Let's just say that I'm going to disagree and leave it at that.

He's been pretty fair towards film even though I disagree with him a lot of the times. I'll just ignore anything he says regarding video games since as you mentioned he obviously doesn't know much about them.
It goes to the nature of the critic system and kinda what Scythus was getting at. The stuff that the masses enjoy tends to be 180 degrees from what the critics deem as "good".

EDIT: Okay, one of the things I've been waiting for.

The ultimate thing I'm waiting for is a for-pay AT respec. If you're reading DEV's I am willing to give you monies for this. I tried it on a competitor's and OMG...

    Please? Make it expensive. I...don't...care.
I would settle for a powerset respec. I've got a scrapper I made back in Issue 2 that would be much better as a BS/Shield rather than the BS/Inv he currently is, simply for thematic reasons. I don't want to delete him, since he's got all those Anniversary badges and whatnot.

*Mind you, I'm not saying all Best Picture Oscar winners are "unengaging," but a good 80% percent usually wind up to be.
Just look at Ebert (? one of those critics anyways) that said video games can't be "art", despite knowing next to nothing about the medium.

    Exactly.

In cases like that, I think people try to call the movie a "film" and "good" so that they appear to be more intellectual than the plebian masses that enjoy something like AvP or Shaun of the Dead. Whenever I'm tricked into one of those arthouse snobbery movies, I find myself wanting to yell, "Someone throw a pie or something!".

Yes, I can be very Peter Griffiny at times. >.<

Well, if they had toned down the lens flares to sub-Liefield levels, the Star Trek movie might've been tolerable...

Well...the Engineer that was alive didn't exactly seem like he wanted to sit down and have a cup of tea with the crew of the Prometheus. His first instinct is pretty much, "EXTERMINATE!" with little regards to anything else.

Now, maybe he was just grumpy from a 2000 year snooze and needed to go to the bathroom, but these little hairless apes are running around his feet and trying to talk to him. Heck, I know I would be a little grumpy, but not to that extent.

Or maybe it was a religious thing, them not showing proper deferential treatment. Maybe David called his mom something...bad. We'll never know, but the first response is a killer.

There's two companies, Weyland Corp (Peter's) and Weyland Industries (Charles'). Charles died in '04 and Peter was born in 1990. It is possible that Peter is Charles' son (maybe born on the wrong side of the sheets, maybe not). The boy starts his own company, possibly to fulfill some item in Charles' will. If his was successful, the two companies merge at some point in the future.

That's just with a cursory glance at the AvP wiki.
