Say you're in a prison (because let's face it: as an OCD gamer, that's pretty much what badges are to me at this point).

The warden gives you a choice between two options:

1) You can have 6 decent-sized meals a month, one every 5 days.
2) You can have a feast every 30 days.

(Also, every 2 meals you eat comes with a dessert to help tide you over to the next meal.)

You could manage to survive only eating a good meal once every 5 days. But how long would it take before you and the other prisoners (badgers) died out completely waiting for the thirty day feasts?

[/ QUOTE ]

That is not a relevant example.

Will you get more frequent gratification (or nutrition)? Sure.
But that's not what I was talking about, and not the only thing you claimed.

[/ QUOTE ]
Okay, then say you had free time (were playing) for 4 hours. The warden doesn't count time spent outside your cell towards the time between your meals.

Waiting 5 days and 4 hours to eat is still a helluva lot better than waiting 30 days and 4 hours.

You might miss out on a few meals that the more dedicated prisoners eat without you, but since you're waiting less time in between meals, it doesn't mean as much.

(Going by badges again, if you lag behind by 10 badges at 5 days per badge, as was the previous argument, that's 50 days--less than 2 months. That means being behind 10 badges on a 5 day scale is still better off than being behind 2 badges on the current 30 day scale.)

And FYI, if we have to have this at all (and apparently we do), I'm for a 10-15 day scale, leaning towards 14 days (2 weeks). 4-6 months to get 12 badges, as opposed to the currently proposed year.

Ahh, I get it now. A badge, i.e. a graphical symbol of an accomplishment in an online game, is just like food: you'll die if you don't get a badge often enough. Now I understand...

Devs - here's a solution. Remove all the badges from all of these jobs, then there's nothing left for people to whine about.

Looks like a good system. 1 year for all the badges seems like a pretty straightforward design. Shouldn't be too hard to do, particularly if you have a lot of alts. Two thoughts:

- What's the unit these are tracked in, or, more specifically, what "counts"? If I log off for an hour do I get 1/720th of a badge or do I have to be logged out for a full day?

- Fashion Designer seems a little wrong the villain side simply because of the flavor of their Tailor. Plastic Surgeon or ID Maker seems a little more fitting.

[/ QUOTE ]

of course its not hard but im being penalized for playing the toons i want these badges on

[/ QUOTE ]

No, you're not penalized at all. This is purely optional. So if you insist on playing a single character 24-7, then you won't earn progress on anything.

Of course I think most people have more than one character, and many work, sleep, and eat, so they'll earn these automatically by just going along as normal.

Unless they do expect people to actively collect them, and they expect people to spend a year collecting them.

Um, you didn't see these points in the announcement:

Below is a list of some, but not all, of the Day Job Accolades available in Issue 13: Power and Responsibility

[/ QUOTE ]

The point I'm trying to make is that it would take well over a year to complete the badges...

The other point is that while they wanted to make it non-trivial to earn the bonuses, I think they went too far in the opposite direction (as usual).

[/ QUOTE ]

From a different point of view, this is added purely as added flavor for a character. It's not added purely as badge material for those who must have them all, and now. Taking a month to earn a free benefit we've never had access to before doesn't seem outrageous.

I don't believe it's intended that SupaDude, who's secret identity is James Boring, would be a city official and a police officer, as well as someone who owns a business, works in a bank, parties frequently, tends the sick in a hospital, designs clothing, and teaches college classes. And, in his spare time, become the chief of police, head of security at a company, a doctor, a practicing scientist, and, oh, by the way, an alchemist.
14. That's awesome!! Congrats!

Can I appear as the guy wearing the X-Ray glasses in the ad in back? Or chewing the onion gum?

Ahh, the memories...

Isn't Blue Steel a Martial Artist, or even Energy Melee?

[/ QUOTE ]

I dunno - every time I see him he just stands there. But with shield I think you need to be a Sword scrapper or an Axe brute/tank. If we could get a sword option that would look like a billy club it would be cool.
16. I was pleased to see the Ascendant shield and a similar half shield there, too. That and the Blue Steel one - I modelled a police officer with the Blue Steel Shield, and a broad sword, like all police use.

Just wish I could have gone ahead and made that character for real.
17. I didn't not see that on your DA page, and I don't think it isn't nice work.

Lady Herricane

Nice piece - good work!
